Essentially it's a remake of X-com. The current (stable) version is 2.3, dev version is 2.4. It's free.

Arghh, damnit. That's what I get for not looking back those pages...
-
I didn't.
This looks pretty cool, but is it playable/fun yet?
-
Yep, it sure is!
-
I enjoy UFO:AI and prefer its aesthetics to xcom's. (Aside from the sprite/3d model difference, I prefer the look of UFO:AI's human armor and weapons to xcom's.)
-
How does this compare to UFO Aftermath?
-
UFO After* are much more polished.
This is really indie and on the works, but it has a gameplay a bit more faithful to x-com 1/2 while UFO:After* are more like x-com apoc with real time mode.
This will be a great xcom-like game when finished, but they do seem to be really slow at it. At least they are still going.
-
Yeah, After* is an evolution out of XCOM. AI is traditional XCOM.
I haven't played this in a few months. Is it any more done? Last I played, half the techs didn't have descriptions, and there were only 3 enemy ships.
-
I played it a while back and stopped because reactionary combat was screwy. I don't know if they've fixed it, but it's still a fun game if you liked X-Com.
-
I wouldn't say After* is an evolution, the turn-based mode in x-com apoc was an evolution, the real-time mode was an alternative. I like both modes, but After* actually simplified the real-time mode quite a bit and even more as it went on.
Plus After* slowly removed destructible terrain, aerial combat, one fire mode and so on until it basically became a Risk game on Afterlight. I couldn't enjoy the last one at all, even tho I tried a few times.

Ah yeah, I stopped following UFO: AI when they completely broke combat reactions and then tried to claim it was a feature. Nothing turns me off to a game like a dev team that can't admit when they've made a mistake.

Nice find, also what exactly did they do wrong on the combat?
