Other Games / God Eater: Monster hunting, now with more animu
« on: August 30, 2016, 11:57:16 pm »

God Eater 2 Rage Burst's English release just came out yesterday on PS4/Vita and Steam after a surprisingly aggressive online advertisement campaign by Bandai, along with the remake of the first game called God Eater Resurrection recently coming out on the same systems. Anyone else have them?

I saw it mentioned by a couple people on the forum and thought a thread would be nice to have in case we have enough people on compatible systems to make hunting parties. I've got the Vita version which has crossplay with the PS4 version.

For those not in the know, it's essentially post-apocalyptic Monster Hunter with a full sized storyline along with the anime dial turned up to eleven.

The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where the world has been taken over by these omni-devouring monsters called Aragami that adapt to take on forms based on what they consume (resulting in monsters that range from your average oversized wolf dragon thingy to this unholy fusion of tank and centaur). Due to the Aragami's properties the only people capable of fighting against them are the God Eaters, people who have been enhanced and linked with oversized weapons called God Arcs made from the extracted cores of defeated Aragami.

Gameplay wise it's pretty similar to Monster Hunter, but with a heavy emphasis on dashing for fast paced combat, and your primary weapon has the ability to shift between a gun form and a melee weapon form. In melee form you can use the devour command to turn your God Arc into a enormous set of jaws that consume bite-fulls of your enemies to power yourself up and collect special ammo that copies their powers, and can then in gun form also send parts of your power up meter to teammates via shooting it to them. The other standout mechanic is that players can design their own ammo for their guns via a simple programming system that allows you to create anything from healing lasers, to sticky bombs, to shots that fly up and turn into a small turret, to even shots that explode into the shape of a mickey mouse head if you want.

--==The Rules==--

General Rules
1. All OOC questions, comments, discussion, and anything else OOC is to be posted in the OOC Thread. OOC posting in the IC Thread is strictly prohibited.

2. Make sure to format your posts correctly.
Primarily put normal description and action text in normal text.
“Put all dialogue in your chosen text color”
Put all actions that are to be processed by the GM in bold. This includes battle map actions, making purchases, using items, and moving yourself to some place requiring GM input.

3. Do not post in the thread until the GM has explicitly given you the go ahead.

4. Please make sure that your posts are coherent and well formatted. Nobody can interact with you if they can’t tell what you’re saying.

Battle Rules
1. Turn Order goes
Player Phase -> Enemy Phase -> Ally Phase -> <Other>… -> Player Phase

2. Format your battle map movements in the form X, Y. State your actions specifically. Don’t just post something like “I move in this general direction”. The GM is not going to decide your moves for you.

Beginners FEF

Welcome to Beginners FEF, a game meant as an introduction for players new to the FEF series of forum games. In comparison to a normal FEF, Beginner’s FEF is built to be much shorter than the usual campaign, taking place over the course of a mere five chapters.

FEF, standing for Fire Emblem on Forums, is as the name implies, a forum game built off the mechanics and themes of Nintendo’s Fire Emblem tactical RPG series. As such, it features several hallmarks of the franchise, including the concepts of character development and interpersonal bonds having effects in battle, the class system, and of course permadeath (Though a less harsh version due to the nature of the game).

It is currently planned for there to be 8 player characters in the party in total. To help guide the newer players, a system similar to Haspen’s old NEF series shall be used in Beginners FEF. Along with the 6 newcomers in the main player list, there shall be two slots reserved for veteran FEF players who will help guide and advise the newcomers as they progress through the game. However, it is asked that the veteran players please abstain from planning out the entire parties moves for them, unless an emergency situation arises to necessitate it.

The party will be starting as a group of mercenaries hired to escort a merchant across the country of Napelli, so applicants should keep that in mind while writing their character bio.

Character Creation
Character Sheet Template
Example Sheet

Characters are to be created as described within the player’s handbook, with a 335% progression total and 4 extra stat points to be distributed upon creation. Again, please check the rule changes listed further up above in this post before creating your character.
Leave the Affinity section of the character sheet blank, as you will be given a choice from a randomly chosen pair once your character has been accepted into the game.

Please note that in this game characters will be starting from First Tier Classes, as opposed to Trainee Classes.

Mugs

When playing FEF, its common practice to have a set of mugs or “mugshots” to represent your character. While not truly necessary to play the game, the mug sets can aid in expressiveness and are considered to a large part of the fun of FEF. These mugs typically take the form of edited and spliced together versions of Fire Emblem character portraits made using image editing software. More specifically from the Gameboy Advanced entries of the Fire Emblem series.

 For example.

Links to obtain the base sprites are listed below.
Fire Emblem 6 Mugshots
Fire Emblem 7 Mugshots
Fire Emblem 8 Mugshots. (Note, uses a different color pallet than the previous two)

If you consider yourself artistically unskilled or are unfamiliar with working with sprites and pixel arts, don’t be afraid. There are many people in the FEF community who are very happy to offer advice or help in making mugs for other players. If you need help, just post a request in this OOC thread or in the FEF Hub Thread.

As a last note, please don’t use somebody else’s spritework in your mug without gaining their permission in some way beforehand. Tis rude and will get people very angry at you if you do.

Character List

Character sheets shall be accepted based on level of experience and quality of the submitted sheet, along with the need to create a balanced party. Outside of the veteran slots, generally players with zero or very little FEF experience will be given priority over those who haven’t.
The term Veteran as referred to here isn't very stictly defined, but a nice rule of thumb would be someone who has played through and completed at least three FEF chapters in the same campaign depending on participation level. Someone who once entered an FEF that died out after a chapter or two is not considered a veteran for the purposes of this game, so please don’t feel discouraged.

Now I've been behind on DF for quite a while, but even considering it being part of the new update, I'm fairly certain that guests aren't suppose to be so open about their vampire status.

He also flashes the nightscreature symbol quite proudly. I submitted a bug report and thought you guys might enjoy seeing this heh.

Hopefully as a guest he'll stick to the tavern and no eat anyone... Buuuut just in case, anyone got some fun suggestions on how to show our guest some dwarven hospitality?

Very loosely inspired by a certain game franchise.

The first thing you know upon waking up is darkness. You force your eyes open, only to be greeted with a pitch black void pressing down upon you.

The second thing you realize is that your body has been suspended in some sort of slimy feeling substance.  As you experimentally grope your arms through your surroundings the goo sloshes around, and you soon discover that you’re in a tightly enclosed space. You can feel smooth curved walls surrounding you on all sides. Reaching down, you discover yourself to be lying on your back atop a small raised platform within the pod, just an inch or two above the floor.

Eventually your explorations manage to discover a small air pocket at the top of whatever container you’ve found yourself in. It’s only an inch thick, without room to fit your head through, but curiously you realize that you have no need to breath, despite being submerged in this mysterious slurry. Are you even breathing at all? How did you get here in the first place?

Giving up on those questions, you lay like this for some time. Even though you’re trapped in this small enclosure, you strangly can’t help but feel... calm in this place. It’s warm, and something about this dark enclosure feels comforting as the slime embraces you on all sides. But even so it's not like you can stay like here forever can you?

[] Stay put.

Title music

Welcome to this lets play of Jojo's Bizarred Adventures: The 7th Stand User. I stumbled upon the game just the other day and decided that it might make an interesting choice for an LP, escpecially considering it has multiple endings.

What the heck is this?
This is a rpgmaker fangame of the incredibly popular and longrunning manga/anime Jojo's Bizarre Adventure! This game follows you the protagonist, as you join the cast of Jojo Part 3: Stardust Crusaders in their quest to defeat the vampire DIO. Or not join them. It's up to you. Either way, please be aware that there will definitely be spoilers for Part 3 during this playthough. And possibly spoilers for other parts.

Where can I get this game?
The fangame was made in Japan, but was recently translated into English and can be found here

Can I talk about so and so that occurs in Part uh... 6 for example?
The series itself is very old, so its pretty much ok to talk about spoilers at this point, however please be curteous and use your best judgement in proper spoiler tag application when discussing major events in future parts, for the sake of newcomers to the franchise and people who only watch the anime.

Why is this in Black and White?
Because the game's artstyle is inspired by The Final Fantasy Legend/ Makai Toshi SaGa for the Gameboy. Also to make it less awkward when frames from the manga are inserted into the game.

In any case lets move on with the show!

Spoiler: Prologue (click to show/hide)

Alright, time for us to fill out the questionnaire and create our character. The questions vary depending on how you answer them, so I'll just dump the whole list and input you answers to them as they pop up on my end.

Spoiler: Questions (click to show/hide)

Also are you a boy or a girl?

What is your name?

Do you have a nickname? If so what is it?

Do you have a catchphrase? What is it? (Keep it short please. Just one or two words.)

Which of these describes your appearance best?
Average
Distinctive
Short
Chubby

Play With Your Buddies / Let's Play Pokemon Adventures Red! Nuzlocke?
« on: April 10, 2014, 04:38:58 pm »

Oh this screen

Well here we go again, another Pokemon LP for the board

I mean who doesn't know this intro on sight?

Wait what?!

Ooooooh

Welcome to Let's Play Pokemon Adventures Red!

Pokemon Adventures Red (Also known as Pokemon Adventures Red:Red Story and Pokemon Adventure - Red Chapter. Both of those titles show up on the official forum page for the hack and I find it very odd) is a ROMHack for Pokemon Firered that I stumbled upon a couple days ago.
The main gimmick of it is that the hack has restructured the game to semi-follow the Pokemon Adventures/Special manga, thrown in with a bizarre inexplicable crossover with the anime, some weird Easter Eggs and mechanic modifications, and as far as I can tell a large bundle of memes and bad jokes.

Yes, this manga. The awesome one that people who frequent the General Discussion boards may have seen me raving about before. It is great and anyone who hasn't read it probably should if they have time.

Now in actuality the hack apparently isn't finished (its in version 7.9 at the moment), but according to the patch notes its already partway through the postgame and bonus content at this point, so that should provide enough material for an LP. The patch for the ROM can be found here. I'll remove it if there's something on it that violates the forum Tos.

This LP will be kinda mostly partially blind. I've played through only the contents of what would be the first two chapters of the manga when testing out the ROM, but other than my knowledge of the manga and the normal pokemon games and a couple things I've researched on the ROM I have no idea what to expect. It's for this reason that this is not going to be a Nuzlocke, along with the fact that my previous nuzlocke attempts have ended horribly, and the members of Red's team from the manga will show up in this and I don't want to risk it if the creator has made them necessary for anything.

And awaaaay we go~

Text with a * at the end denotes dialogue straight out of the ROM

"Welcome to the world of Pokemon!"*

"Where humans and Pokemon live together happily!!"*

"This world..."*

"For some people, Pokemon are pets. Others treat them as family."*

"As for myself..."*

...did I mention that the patch's creator is from- Wait he's from Australia? Well that bodes ill.

I can't decide if this is even more hilarious than Oak forgetting his grandson's name, or just sad.

Yeah, sorry guys, I would let you name him, but I need to do this for consistency since I checked and you never get a chance to name Green once you meet her. Did I mention that the ROM uses the english names of the characters?

"Right... my name is Red."*

He does not actually use this sprite.

"He's been my rival since we both met in Pallet Forest!!"*

"Er, was it Blue?"*

"That's right! I remember now! His name is Blue!"*

"I made friends and enemies in my journey. This is the 1st chapter of my story."*

"Welcome to the Pallet Town Playground! Home to absolutely no playground equipment and children interacting with wild Pokemon without any adult supervision at all!"

"You'd think they'd do something about that after that incident with the bird that the adults whisper about sometimes."

This being a Pokemon game of course walking into the tall grass is gonna be the first thing we do.

"Red, I think you should help her out with that Nidoran."*

And of course we get pushed out immediately. You may notice that the customary tall grass warning isn't there.

"..."

"Someday I'm gonna join the circus!"

"Uh... good luck with that I guess"

You can't leave from the other side either by the way. Is there anything else around here to interact with?

"I look way to generic to ever be a star."*

...let's move on then.

"You have to weaken the POKEMON be you attempt to catch it, ya know."*

"Can you help me catch it please?"*

"Sure, no problem!"*

(Oh yeah does Poliwhirl, have a nickname?)*

Like in the manga, Red is gonna be starting off with a Poliwhirl as his first Pokemon. It evolved in a flashback to save him from drowning when he was a little kid.

Canonically the fella's named Poli, but I figured I have to let you guys have SOME fun after all.

It is the year 516 A.E. in the Post-Fall Era. Two years ago the Vediran Empire, self proclaimed successors to the Arthoran Empire of old, declared war on the Kingdom of Tresk in yet another of their attempts to conquer the continent and reforge the old empire.

Since then, the war has fallen into a stalemate. The Vediran armies have been pushed back into the mountains, and both sides have started to become starved of resources. In desperation, nearly all of the elite pilots and warriors of Tresk have been assigned to help keep the Vedirans from progressing any further, despite the encroaching Gaiakin cycle. In their stead teams of mercenaries and rookie pilots have been given the duty of protecting the cities and roads of Tresk from the beasts, lead by the few veterans who have been allowed to stay back.

One such town is the village of Kern, located in the northeast of Tresk. Relatively isolated from other populated areas, its defenders are commanded by Captain Flint, a mercenary who has worked for Tresk many times in his career.  On this day he has called for the pilots of Kern to meet in the tavern, where they now await his arrival…

Sacha Overbeck, Cora Ysgra, Kester Utheris, Kayle Hakidonmuya, and  Aqi Sayen are In!

IC Thread Here
Once there was a world in which giant beasts roamed the land. The beasts, known as Gaiakin, would destroy and consume all in their path. Humanity cowered in their wake, occasionally managing small victories against them, but in the end were caught in a cycle of destruction. Until one day...

A Gaiakin in the form of a towering fanged beast made of stone, attacked a certain village. The inhabitants, with the help of a talented wandering mage, fought back against it. It was a long and deadly battle, and by the end a large portion of the village was laid waste, but somehow through pure luck, the beast was brought down, its body shattered into pieces. As the villagers toiled to rebuild what they had lost, the mage examined the remains, and to his horror he realized that the creature was still alive. His first instinct of course, was to destroy all that was left of it, but some strange impulse stopped him. Suddenly, a mad, wondrous idea gripped his mind. With the cooperation of the villagers, master craftsmen and smiths, they rebuilt the body of the Gaiakin with iron and magic, but thanks to powerful spells crafted by the mage, it was under his control. So began the tale of the first Emperor Arthrus, and the first Argoth Avendas.

With the power of Avendas behind him, Arthrus united the people of the land, and created the Arthoran Empire, which would stand for over 700 years. People crafted new Argoths from metal and stone in imitation of Avendas, and used them to fight back against the Gaiakin. As the ages passed nine other Gaiakin were captured and rebuilt, becoming the ten living Argoths, the ultimate power of the Empire. Unlike the metal Argoths forged in their image, the 10 living Argoths possessed incredible power, owing to their origins and intelligence.

The empire withstood countless threats, invasion, rebellions, and unimaginably powerful Gaiakin.  But then one day it collapsed. The reasons for its fall are shrouded in mystery, and for the next 300 years its land, and eventually the rest of the world, descended into chaos, from which few records would survive. But the people rebuilt, and today they stand on the cusp of regaining their former greatness...

Nah, I don't plan anything after FEF2. Possibly will go back to sci-fi games and mecha.

Is there a Mecha Fire Emblem somewhere I can spy on? :P

I'm working on it! But not in the way you spoke. Hmmmm I should consider that. I have the perfect setting and all...

But it's probably a year off or something XD

And for once I actually manage to underestimate myself. Yay.

So yeah, this is a forum game using a Medieval Fantasy - Mecha fusion setting I've been working with for about... 4 years now? The game will be using the FEF system, but the classes and items and such have all be replaced to accommodate the setting. Since a lot of stuff was statted from scratch, some of them may be altered mid game to deal with balancing issues if it pops up. So yeah here we go!

DF Modding / Matoran Fortress -Bionicle Mod- UPDATED .15
« on: November 06, 2012, 05:22:04 pm »
Download

This is my first published attempt at modding

As you can tell from the title I've added in the Matoran from Lego's Bionicle Franchise as a playable Civ. I've done my best to keep them as accurate to the series canon as possible but I've had to make some allowances here and there to make it possible (for example eating and reproduction are done the natural way, and the matoran toa turaga cycle is not active with them instead being different castes). It adds in all 16 known Matoran elements excluding Plasma, with made up prefixes used for the lightning magnetism and plantlife matoran, and has separate castes for the Toa, Matoran, and Turaga variant. I plan to eventually expand the mod to include all the wildlife and civilizations from Bionicle until it can become a total conversion mod.

A handy little guide to the Matoran Tribes and variants for those who don't know them. You can check what tribe they are in fortress mode by looking at their armor color in their description.
Spoiler: Matoran (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Toa (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Turaga (click to show/hide)

Many new weapons and tools have been added in too.

Also there is now the metals protodermis and exsidian. Metallic protodermis can be further upgraded to protosteel by smelting it with steel and crystal protodermis, which can be found in clusters in protodermis veins. Exsidian is only availiable to Bara Magna races. Their combat efficiency has not been highly tested, so please report any findings on whether they are too overpowered or weak.

Spoiler: CHANGELOG (click to show/hide)

Please tell me of any issues or errors that come up concerning this.
