Title: New Succession Mod Thread
Post by: vjmdhzgr on August 20, 2015, 05:34:44 pm
A few months ago Urist McCoder started a succession mod thread, since then he's stopped updating the main post and given me permission to start a new thread for this managed by myself.

Link to original thread: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=150435.0
Here's the original description of the succession mod which I'll continue following for this thread.

Rules

So here are the rules, we start with a df file with only basic raws meaning plants, inorganics, reactions, buildings, tissue templates, descriptors,  body detail plans, and maybe some others, dfhack installed. each turn is four (4) real life days, then after the person's turn is up they post it on dffd for the next person to take there turn, then repeat. you may make small tweaks for compatibility but you can't outright destroy, rename, or any way deface the people before you's work. you are required to add a mega-beast named after you. Once your turn is up please write a short summary of what you did.

Signing up

Just post below if you want to sign up, If you want a certain spot just say so I will try to accommodate you. If for some reason you can't take your turn/can't complete your turn you will be readded to the list at the end, if you so wish.

I'd like to add that everybody upon completion of their turn should add a text file to the main directory that says what they changed or added. This could be all the same text file with different sections for each version, but in the most recent version I was the only person to write what I changed into a text file which is called vjmdhzgr changelog, so we could also have individual text files. It would help to say what was changed in a forum post along with the upload as well.

Btw, if my turn comes up next week, I won't be able to take it. But I should be able to do some stuff, if ant any other time.

It's been about 15 hours now. Next up is alfrodo who hasn't posted in this thread yet so I'll PM them and if there's no reply in... two days? That seems alright, then we'll skip to stagnantSoul. Who also hasn't posted in this thread yet.

Are you going to be able to upload it at all? If the problems continue you could copy the changes into
Code: [Select]
some of these and the next person could make those changes before their own.

Next person in line is Alfrodo who I've PMed a few times, but I think we should at least have a post here and then wait until some time tomorrow to move onto the next person.

It seems we'll have to be skipping Alfrodo. Next up is stagnantSoul who I will be PMing right after posting this. If Alfrodo shows up before stagnantSoul then I'll let Alfrodo begin their otherwise skipped turn.

Oh. Hi.  Didn't notice the PMs until now.

Never got one before.

Well. I guess I have something to do tonight.

I don't know much about DFhack, since I've never used it...

I might need some halps

Things change, I looked around and noticed I was out of things to do.

I still have ideas, however. so I'm going to proceed.

Quick question, I want to make it so my FB turns people into copies of itself.  Can I do this in DFhack?

Do you mean megabeast? If so, then you wouldn't really need that, just make a normal transformation into itself. I think DFhack is already installed though for the purpose of being used for modding.

Its fine.  Originally I wanted to make a fedora monster that turns people into more fedora monsters, but I decided against it.

thanks, though.

Alright Alfrodo the time has come to upload your version of the mod. You can have some more time, but there might be skipping if you don't upload it by tomorrow. After Alfrodo is stagnantSoul, who hasn't showed up in the time it took for Alfrodo to finish despite being notified in several ways, and has been notified again yesterday. So if they don't report having downloaded the next version of the mod by a day after it's uploaded then we'll skip to NJW2000. Who asked 11 days ago to be delayed if their turn showed up next week, but hopefully its been long enough that they can mod if we have to skip stagnantSoul.

Yeah, back to school and all is gonna be a bit of a shock to the ol system, but I should be able to do it, given a week.

My contribution is pretty small and I don't really have much of a megabeast, just a rediculously oversized elf that tries to stomp you.

I'm just adding a handful of reactions, a few weapons, hats, the like.  I'll finish up and put it up on dropbox in a little bit.

After testing the mod, it occurred to me that I have no idea what I was doing.

Either way.  I added some weapons, armour, and a hat.  I'm not sure how to get my MB working.  But I'll keep trying. I'll get a DB up tomorrow.

Unfortunately, as a side effect of me not knowing what I am doing:  I put my mods into the vanilla raws, meaning you'd have to search for them.  My armor and helmet bits are easy to find, and my MB is in Creature_Fanciful.

Also, this is definitely not a dump of the mods I've coded out of boredom and put into one text file for storage.

So it's, a bit past tomorrow. Are you having trouble uploading or did you just forget? Also, NJW2000, you said you'd be okay given a week, does that mean, given a week starting a few days ago, or that the week that was already given was enough? If not then I supposed we'll delay your turn until after Teneb's who I'll message if you clarify the meaning as needing to wait a bit more.

Just deleted my test saves and boxed it up, my Chitin reactions were tested before I added them in, so they should work fine.

Based off of how NJW2000 hasn't responded I'm guessing they meant that they want a week after now to start their turn so it's on to Teneb and then NJW2000 again.

Well Teneb I think it's rather clear now that it is your turn and you should start soon. I prefer to start turn timers when the person first posts saying that they've started their turn, to keep it to people actually having 4 days to work on it. Hopefully that post saying that they've started working on the mod will be able to be on the day the last version was uploaded soon, as we're now into people that signed up in this thread and will thus hopefully be more likely to check this thread and update quickly.

So Teneb, since the last post I had thought that you had probably just started working on it without saying anything, but I hadn't noticed how long it had been until now. So, are you done? If not then you'll have to be skipped or maybe given a few extra days. Either way it should be NJW2000's turn soon.

Okay if anybody currently on the list at all is able to take their turn then post and take it now, if nobody's said anything by mid day tomorrow than I'll just take the next turn. As for when exactly that turn starts, it'll just be my next post, so if you see this and want to take a turn then post saying you are taking a turn, and then it will be your turn. There's been a lot of delays and I just want to get somebody modding soon.

Alright, I'll take it. I may end up ending it before the deadline, but I hope there is no problem in that.

Since there is an errorlog, I'll do some bugfixing before anything else. It's only 4 lines of errors (Putnam's megabeast has an unrecognized interaction token, and two items for the Mountain entity are unrecognized, probably a typo).

EDIT: Absolutely can't find ITEM_TOOL_SOAPBOX in the files, despite it being in the entity. Anyone has any idea where this is supposed to be, or if it even exists?

Since I'm having trouble uploading, I decided to put the few efforts of my modding here. I've already described the few bugs I found, so they can easily be found. Just place the things below in any appropriate file, and add the toys/instruments to the civs I mention, plus any others you want.

Spoiler: megabeast (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: instruments and toys (click to show/hide)
Lute to MOUNTAIN, FOREST and PLAINS
Chess to MOUNTAIN and PLAINS
Checkers to MOUNTAIN and PLAINS

So next up is NJW2000, Gwolfski, or Lymia. The whole order's been a bit confusing for a while so of those I'll just go with whoever posts first. Whoever it is that goes next, make sure you remember to implement Teneb's additions that weren't added to the main file due to uploading issues.

It's too bad the thing died, feels like it didn't really go very far.
If somebody wants to re-reclaim it, I'd be up for a turn (probably mostly spent tinkering with language files but I guess that's just my way (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=75396963))

It's a matter of course to take the succession mod and start a succession fort on it.
I am personally absolute ass at Fort Mode even after so many years so I'm not sure I'd be the right candidate for such.

I'm fine with whatever it is people want to go for. If we make a succession game then it might be best to go to a new thread in that subforum though.

Also, you made that mod? I've had that installed for years. Though not like, actively played years, just like, maybe three times a year for years. Years.

Yup, that was me. I think I was posting it here pre-Workshop even. Who'd have figured the world of roguelikes is actually pretty tiny?  ;)

Dredmor phonemes were fun. They're split parts of words, so I could get away with using a lot of pop culture and nobody would ever know. I'm still surprised I never got yelled at by somebody who got the jackpot roll of "Pinkiepie" on an artifact or something.
