Thus far for the year I am at four, best I can remember.
4 complete
High Steel
Magic's Pawn
Magic's Promise
Magic's Price
There might have been a good number of books at the beginning of the year, but I certainly couldn't remember them unless I had covers to look at. I probably won't make 52 unless I can get another period where a novel a day is a reasonable usage of my time.
Time to test my memory...
The Once and Future King - TH White (A stunning book. I'd been meaning to reread it for years.)
Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer - Rick Riordan (It's very good. Riordan is still my go-to author for light, happy reading.)
The Book of Merlin - TH White (Weird. Basically White talking alot politics through the mouthpiece of Merlin.)
Good Omens - Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman (I was incredibly underwhelmed after all the hype. It's just... not that good.)
Shadow's Edge - Brent Weeks (2edgy intensifies. I have mixed feelings about this book.)
Mortal Engines - Philip Reeve (This is still a super good book. Quite grim for a children's book, but not too bad.)
Infernal Devices - Philip Reeve (Also pretty grim, all things considered. I don't like it a much as Mortal Engines, honestly.)
Steelheart - Brandon Sanderson (I was actually pretty disappointed. Worm did it better.)
Magician's Apprentice - Trudi Canavan (I quite enjoyed it, in a lightish reading way. It's well written, though the plot's not stunning.)
We Never Make Mistakes - Alexander Solzhenitsyn (Solzhenitsyn is brilliant. This book would particularly appeal to fans of Papers, Please.)
I'll colour code later, and I might have forgotten a book or two.
I'm mostly finished The Godfather right now. It's good, and gripping, but I had to put it down halfway and read something else (the Solzhenitsyn) for a while. It's very intense.
I've read 3 so far. I get the feeling I need to pick up the pace.
1984
The Black Fleet Trilogy Book 1
The Black Fleet Trilogy Book 2
I still have a long way to go. Usually I'd manage to finish enough, but I'm rapidly running out of series that are interesting and that I have not read yet...
1. Side Jobs - Jim Butcher
2. Shadow of Freedom - David Weber
3. Cauldron of Ghosts - David Weber & Eric Flint
Do rereads count? I've been trying to make my funds last as long as I can.
If you want them to! I'm certainly going to be rereading some things, because I have a different perspective on life since I last took a look. I guess I'll mark my rereads with a *.
I hardly ever buy books, myself. Virtually everything I read I've owned for a long time or I get from one of the local libraries. I'm really fond of the "staff picks" shelf.
Good good.
Actually, I do have another reason for rereading these particular ones, as my list is going to demonstrate very well. I've been doing some genre research since the start of the year to help with my writing.
1. A Rogue By Any Other Name - Sarah MacLean
2. One Good Earl Deserves a Lover - Sarah MacLean
3. The Angel - Tiffany Reisz
4. The Girl With All The Gifts - M.R. Carey
5. Be Not Afraid - Alyssa Cole
6. The Governess Affair - Courtney Milan
7. The Duchess War - Courtney Milan (reread)
8. The Heiress Effect - Courtney Milan (reread)
tfw you realize you haven't read anything in your actual genre for three months.
