Title: Mission: Confused Conquistador
Post by: piecewise on June 13, 2016, 12:34:21 pm
WELCOME TO NEWBIE THREAD.

IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE NEW SIGN UPS FOR UNIVERSE EXPLORING, GO HERE. I WILL NOW BE DIRECTING YOU.

Ren, Aoshi, Ozarck, Zormod, You guys have signed up for going out to Universe F, otherwise known as Loopyverse on the wiki. At this point I'm gonna assume you (AND ANYONE ELSE I FORGOT OR WHO WANTS TO JUMP IN AT THE LAST MOMENT) are in the ship and have been ported in. I believe we've handled your supplies, right? If not, we'll do it now while moving and assume it retconned in.

NOW, you guys, who I want to use this tag on your posts
[RINGBOYZ]

You guys get ported in. Below you is a very earth like planet, that familiar kind of blue, brown and white speckled marble floating in space. Above you is the ring space station which, frankly, has seen better days. It's not the nice smooth ring that various novels or popular video game franchises would make you assume it would be. Large sections of it seem damaged, with an exposed structural skeleton or even a few large holes blown through it by meteors or other roving space objects. As per the sections that remain solid and seemingly functional, they don't have an exposed earth like surface or anything neat like that, they look more like the mostly smooth, occasionally bumpy exterior of most space structures. Nothing stands out as a particularly interesting landmark to investigate. No giant alien stuck in the thing, no big spire, no obvious glowing tesseract or distress signal or alien strip club. The best you can see, at least on this side of the ring, is a thicker, more complete section near the horizon in front of you.

ANYONE ELSE, ANY OTHER NEWBIES, YOU MAY CHOOSE TO GO TO ANOTHER UNIVERSE OR JUST SIT AROUND BEING BRAIN DEAD LIKE HALF OUR NEWBIES END UP ANYWAYS

"We should give a slow flyby around some meteor holes. Maybe we can have better view what's inside and possibly even see frozen alien corpses floating around."

Recommend swlow flyby at those meteor holes first to see if there's anything floating around. Or anything else we can learn from observation alone.

"Yeah, that works for me. It might let us see some of the interior as well, give us a better idea on what we're dealing with.

Agree with Ao. Slow flyby, approach non-threateningly.  Look for anything interesting floating about. If possible take a peak into the interior of the ring with the shuttles lights, if it has them. Also, while we're up there, look over the planet, looking for any other structures in, on, or around the planet. Scan in all frequencies available and the entire EM spectrum, if possible.

Yes. Either choose one of the groups already out, Ie SEXUALVIOLENCE or RINGBOYZ, or choose a universe from here: http://einsteinianroulette.wikia.com/wiki/Mission_26#Primary_Colonizable_Universes

And go to it.

RINGBOYZ first do an orbit of the planet. It's mostly unremarkable but there is one thing on the far side of the planet that catches their attention. It's a crater, visible from orbit. Whatever made it, the impact would have been large enough to wipe out all life on that planet at the time.  It must have been some time ago, however, because the planet is clearly covered in at least plant-like life now. Upon closer inspection and analysis by onboard computers, it appears that the planet is riddled with craters; what look like mountain ranges are in fact the edges of craters and many small seas are heavily eroded craters. This planet has been bombarded with stellar objects god knows how many times, and many look like they hit when the planet was "alive" judging by the water erosion.

Does this bear further investigating or should we move on to the ring?

RingBoyz

To the ring!

You do a flyby of the holes on the ring. The holes are nothing special but it lets you see a few things: first that these sections were inhabited. You can still see frozen bodies out here. Strange bodies; conical with radial symmetry, obvious grasping limbs but no visible head or similar. It seems they have what might be eye stalks, or perhaps just strange tendrils.  Also, the outer side of the ring appears to be heavily armored; by which I mean several dozen meters of solid metal plate by the look of it.  And there's something else: The thicker section's outer armor is just completely bristling with lasers. Or at least some sort of short barreled weapon. Hard to tell if they're still active, but going in close to them would be dangerous.

You take the ship around to the back of the thick section and find what looks like an airlock. You can't attach to it, the locking systems are wrong for your ship, so you'll need to physically get out of the ship, open the door and then get in.

Let's start a team and go to Techyverse. It sounds interesting and I want to do something.

Ok. Get some people together if anyone wants to go. Your tag is [THROBBING D DRIVE]

Meet back here in [Four Turns] and report our findings. If either team loses radio contact, they retreat immediately until contact is established again and can radio that they are fine. How's everyone feel about that?"

"Eh...good question. I'm a seven foot tall robot, and decently armored up, so...I'll go looking at the bodies and outer weapons. I might not fit inside the ring, and if there are small areas, I'm screwed. I can always bust in and make holes into the ring to help the other team if they need it also. I think. Depends on what material the ring is made out of and if my Spektr can cut through."

Well, as you can see, I have this exoskeleton ((heavy armored)), so I can probably handle breaking stuff inside, if I can fit. i don't know how tight it will be inside, but that's where I prefer to go. We'll try the airlock first, but there are all those holes, which look like thye were made rather violently, so getting in should be easy enough from them.

Dester Leads Ringboyz Team Airlock to the airlock and examines it for a way to get it to open, besides ripping it out of the hull. Also, Is the armor on the pat of the ring facing away from teh planet, or is it all round? Are we on the part of the hull facing the planet, or facing deep space. Did we see any moons orbiting this planet? what about additional planets in this system? What's the sun or suns like?

Slowly make my to the corpses. Use my pokin poles to make sure no alt-universe alien death penii try and eat my robo face off.

If, and only if, I don't get an alien death penii to the face, haul several of the corpses off to the side. Search them for any obvious tracking units, or anything that could potentially fuck over us, or our universe even more than it already is.

Use the Spektr to cut them apart. Take my time, I'm not in a rush. Be sure to label the parts so the science guys know what went where. Load them up in the shuttle, stack them like cord wood to make them fit.

The weapons, from what you all can see, are indeed lasers. Quite large, and on rotating turret bases. Not the nice gimbal system humans have, something a bit more primitive. Several are still moving, very slightly, tracking something you can see in the vast vast distance.

The bodies, which you successfully retrieve without getting an alien penis to the face, are unusual. Unlike life you've seen before; they are heavy and very dense. They resemble, for lack of a better analog, conical carrots. They have a bright orange flesh that is dense and does not bend easily or to any great degree. Their entire body seems almost completely rigid, though the tendrils branching off it are more pliable. They move like leather over thick metal wire, flexing with some effort and then remaining in place afterwards. The eye stalks end in strange bunches of soft flesh, like a deep blue bunch of grapes with moth antennae sprouting up between the individual lobes. You would assume these are sensory organs, they seem too fragile and specialized for anything else. Their internal structure is a mystery as well; the structure in the eye stalks is fairly complex but when you slice into the body, beyond a dense central core that looks slightly different, it's almost as though everything is completely the same throughout the whole body. The limbs, judging by the thin tubes that seem to run their length, must be hydralic, though how they function is beyond you as the flesh attached to them is the same solid and seemingly unspecialized flesh as everywhere else.

The airlock is heavy, circular and lacks any obvious electronic controls. Instead, it has what looks like a manual release, an enormous crank like device that seems to be designed to be twisted like the cap on a bottle, which would no doubt activate some machinery inside the door itself.

The armor on the ring faces only away from the planet. You are on the inner part of the ring, the part facing the planet, as the outer part has laser cannons. There are no visible moons, but there do appear to be asteroid rings if your guess is correct about the sparkling haze in the distance.  You can't see any planets but planets are quite hard to see from a distance so you might see one and mistake it for a star. The sun looks similar to earth, maybe a touch closer to red giant than ours.

"Huh. Odd. I think. I hope the science crews cam make more sense of this than I can."

Put a couple of intact bodies into the shuttle for the science crews. See if I can zoom in and see what the turrets are tracking. Use the shuttles cameras if need be. Don't move it, just zoom/scan whatever frequencies might help see that far.

If there are any disabled lasers that are floating about, or any that could be easily grabbed, hopefully without triggering some sort of alarm, grab several and examine. Be sure to save everything and store on the shuttle for the science crews. If possible save some mostly intact ones for them as well.

Yes

"Honestly, we're just going to roam until we find a planet that seems to support our life, and settle it... anything more complicated just poses a risk to our species continued survival. We also approach situations with peace first, defense as a responce. Defense will likely be combined with retreat in order to minimize losses. This universe seems similar to ours, which means there is lots of space for us to find our own place."

Crank dat manual airlock mechanism! Do it gently at first, and with increasing force as necessary to get it moving, Try not to break the thing. Pray to Space Jesus! Also, Dester requests that the doc on the shuttle (the npc that Dester brought along) do a more detailed analysis of the corpses, See if he or she can glean any additional info.

If this doesn't work, and doesn't explode, we can always go in through the damage, probably. Keep me posted on what you discover about what the lasers are tracking. it's good to know that the ring is functional, at least in part, and that there is a potential hostile threat outside as well as whatever we are about to face inside.

RINGBOYZ CORPSE TEAM

"Huh. Odd.

[RINGBOYZ]

Help with the lasercannon looting.
You cannot see what the turrets are tracking. Not with the optics you have at least. There aren't any that are just floating in open space...there are some that aren't moving and don't look active but you can't tell for sure if they're dead or just staying stationary. You'd have to go over into what would be their range of vision to see for sure.

The info gathered on the bodies was with the help of the doc. You guys don't have the best scientific facilities on this shuttle.

The both of you together manage to open the manual airlock, though it takes about all the strength you can muster between the both of you. This race must have been very buff. Once you get the mechanism turned 90 or so degrees, something inside the door clicks and the mechanism stops moving. The door, a solid circular slab of metal, raises up and rolls to the side. Past it is what appears to be an airlock. There are a few monitors-- circular,  concave things that would probably be very hard to read with human eyes-- and a door at the far end with some sort of console next to it. The console has no monitor and no keyboard, instead it has a metal plate with an 8x8 grid of holes bored in it. They're quite thick, and pretty deep. Perhaps this is their keyboard equivalent?

Well, this doesn't remind me of attempting to communicate with interdimensional spiders or anything. Anyone know how to hack one of these things? Me neither.

Edit: how many of us can fit into the airlock at once? I'd like to close the outer door before attempting to open the inner one. also, to be clear, it took the combined strength of a heavy armored exoskeleton, and whatever Aoshima's character has, to open that door?

Yes, it took that much force. Door don't play around.

After a fair bit of consideration, you come to the conclusion that regardless of the solution here, you either need to find a manual way to open the door or a way to get the power on because these keypad things aren't gonna work with no power. You search around a bit and find, nestled in the ceiling in a small cubbyhole, what looks like a metal pry bar. You pop it out and examine the inner airlock door. The bar fits a hole on the edge of the face of the inner airlock door. It looks like, with enough strength, the door is went to be sort of "rolled to the side manually, down a track that runs along the floor.

You float out to one of the more damaged sections and poke your head in. The damaged sections are in a heck of a state of disrepair; their internal structures are shattered and there's floating bits of debris everywhere forming a haze of metal shards, plastic chunks and insulation foam. You have to literally shove your way through it to get a look at anything. From what you can see a lot of this stuff seems to be life support systems; there's some familiar looking gas scrubbing filters here and water purification systems, as well as temperature regulation stuff.

Patiently wait for someone to join in exploration. If I become too bored, "accidentally" fall asleep. Otherwise, look at any data we have on Techyverse to waste time and be slightly better prepared.

You guys close the outer door and then open the inner one. It takes a hell of a lot of effort, even between you three, but the pry bar seems to hold up quite well. You roll the door open just enough to squeeze in. There's there's a hiss of atmosphere when the door opens, but a scan shows it to be mostly co2 and nitrogen, with almost no oxygen. The room beyond the airlock is dark, quiet and deserted. It's fairly large though; an antechamber of sorts filled with space suits, tools and what look like maneuvering packs. There's no power here either.  The lasers on the outer side of the ring must either be autonomously powered, or only part of the station has lost power.

Examine the tools, maneuvering packs and spacesuits, try and gauge what their tech level was. Also, see if there's any way to tell what air mixture they breathed. Turn on motion tracking, but turn it down to the low end.

Explore the hallway a bit, looking for pictograms or anything that might of been their writing. Use the pokin poles to check EVERYTHING.

After making sure there's no immediate threat coming from the hallway, find a door that looks promising and poke around. Use pokin pole first, then camera on the end of my fingers, then poke my head in. Use the Spektr or the Swiss Army Pimpknuckles to open up doors if need be.

Dester uses his brains and aux skill to attempt to locate a power source in this room. If the others' experiments with the maneuvering packs are successful, he takes one as well (probably not though, as they are for a larger creature apparently). If Dester can find a power source and likely method for powering this room up, he tries that before we move on (unless the only power sources we find are those in our own suits.) Speaking of, I'll check one of the alien suits for power.

Did you miss Kedly's last action (regarding planet hopping), or are you just waiting to process it until Spaz is done?

Spoiler: Aforementioned post (click to show/hide)

Life issues are wrecking me at the moment. And I don't see things getting better in the next few months. Hopefully I'll be in a better place when Oro starts up. It's been fun rping with you all

((Damn. Well, I hope you're wrong, and things do improve sooner rather than later. Regardless- it's been fun,   and we'll hope to see you in Oro.))

((who will be in control of sexual violence? I mean I'qd be willing to but I don't know if that is the best.))

((IC, I'm guessing NPC-Vincent will continue to lead our little expedition. If he doesn't, though, Gus is probably next in the chain of command.

OOC, I'm not sure we need one person to take control. It's just you and me now, after all.))

RINGBOYZ INSIDE

Lights on. I'll take one of those probable maneuvering packs. Then I move to the next door and as soon as others are ready I'll open it, but making sure to not stand in front of it in case it is trapped.

"What was atmospheric composition of the planet? Does it match with this one?"
You grab a maneuvering pack. Wearing it would be a bit hard-- its clearly designed for a much more tubular individual than you-- and using the controls might take some effort too. It's pair of joysticks but it takes a lot of force to move them.

((Jesus. I just realized it took battlesuit level strength and a heavy armored exoskeleton to open that door. I really don't want to get into melee range with these guys, if any of them are left.))

RINGBOYZ INSIDE

"I...don't believe we ever checked that actually. I doubt it. They might if filled it with what they believe to be inert gasses to try and preserve the station."

Their tech level seems to have been pretty high. Makes sense; you don't create an orbiting space station ring thing like this accidentally.

Long range scans of the planet show it to be oxygen rich, much like earth, so it's probably a safe bet they wouldn't have survived in this atmosphere. Even if it wasn't hundreds of degrees below zero. You turn on motion tracking, just in case.

Ringboyz Inside

Dester uses his brains and aux skill to attempt to locate a power source in this room. If the others' experiments with the maneuvering packs are successful, he takes one as well (probably not though, as they are for a larger creature apparently). If Dester can find a power source and likely method for powering this room up, he tries that before we move on (unless the only power sources we find are those in our own suits.) Speaking of, I'll check one of the alien suits for power.
You can't find a power source in this room. No emergency generators are just laying around in here, unfortunately.  You do find an access panel to the power cables that supply this room though. The maneuvering packs look...awkward at best. You decide to skip using one for now.  The alien space suits do have individual battery packs, but they aren't anything special. You'd be better off just using your own suit's power.

This antechamber is attached to a hall, running left and right. To the right it only extends about 10 feet before ending in a door, but to the left it goes on for...well for long enough that you can't see the end of it. The door to the right is slightly expanded, as though pressurized from the other side. The left...well theres a lot of doors on the left obviously so I won't explain them all. But the closest one is partially open and there's a carrot man laying halfway into the hall.

There are no visible signs, or indeed any visible markings anywhere in the hall.

NPC me please.

There's none near by in a human sense, but if you hopped in the shuttle you could grab some that's nearby but not near enough to go without a suit. Wouldn't take long.

I'll accompany Ao this turn. I'll help him open the door that carrot man is laying in, after he checks carefully for traps and the like.

"I feel a little trapped and exposed, guys. it was hard to open those doors, and we have no other exits, and one long hallway down which an enemy can chase us or shoot at us with abandon. Oh, and there's that death door right there, expanded, waiting to explode, hurtling a large steel battering ram down the hall and a pressure shockwave through us al with enough force to jelly us into paste. I mean, these doors are big and thick, right? What kind of pressure would it take to expand one like that?"

Planit eh? Planit is exactly what we didn't do! *RIMSHOT*
Well, as I said before, you guys ported into a completely dark area of space and are several light years from anything so...there ain't no planets out where and you're gonna have to travel for years to even find a solar system, let alone a habitable one.

This is why I kept asking if you guys really wanted to be dumped out here.

Wake up in the shuttle where I had totaly been this entire time. Help with moving and tossing scrap at the turrets.
The scrap drifts a little past the turrets before they activate and slice it into several hundred pieces. Judging from the test you might be ok as long as you stay close to the surface of the station and move slowly.

You head over to the room with the corpse poking out. It's definitely dead. You can't tell the purpose of the room though. It's just a fairly large room filled with horizontal metal pipes arranged at varying heights. Obstacle course? Extreme pole dancing? Who knows. But it is dark, quiet and covered in a spray of what is probably the internal juices of these aliens. You find no sign of traps, at least nothing you would register as one.

There's one thing you can tell about the carrot people from checking over the body; they are not something to be fucked with. This thing is split nearly in half and perforated with no less than a dozen ping pong ball sized holes and yet, judging from the goo, it was still up and moving until the final blows split what is probably its head. It's body is stiff, limbs like leather over steel wire. These things would be a nightmare to fight.

Try and use ship records on personally to find the location of Jackson's homeworld and how far it is from our current location.
second, see if I can request cloning tech for sods and a pocket dimension
if I get ahold of the pocket dimension set it to two buttons and to Gus and I's life support so that if one of us dies it counts as the person's button pressed.
When both buttons are pressed it will open up access to and from the pocket dimension and what is inside.[

After that see how long it would take to get an unmanned drone to do a quick exploration of the death star near the entrance to orgy verse with the goal of mapping it out to the best of our abilities while avoiding and living creatures.

Call a private meeting of the ship's security. Do a quick headcount, taking note of the tech they're toting, and split them into two roughly equal groups.

Group 1 will conduct a census of all of the colonists and crew on board, and determine the sex and age distribution of the population. Any obviously disabled, ill, or physically unfit passengers will be redirected to whatever medical staff we have on board for thorough examination. This is assuming that we didn't just put everyone in stasis, of course. Any "contraband" (unauthorized weapons, extra food supplies, etc) is to be confiscated.

Group 2 will survey the stocks on board. I need an estimate on how many years our food supplies will last (remember that we planned to feed an entire colony with these stores). Then they are to ensure that all of our cargo- our weapon supplies in particular- is properly secured and guarded.

Have somebody smarter than myself try to determine whether any of the nearby stars are solar systems. If none are, determine which star is nearest, and set a course for it.

Retire to my chambers. See if I still have any of the orgyverse recordings on my Datapad. I need something to cheer me up.

Dester walks down the hall slowly, listening for noise and trying not to make a whole lot of it. I'll go about thirty feet. I also examine my surroundings carefully as I go, especially the doors along the way. Once I get about thirty feet down, I glance back to check on my companions.

Hey, he's requesting something from command.  Technically, I'm command, yes?  He isn't getting any of the stuff he's asking for, other than the satellite map which has existed awhile.

"Request for cloning equipment denied.  Request for personal pocket-dimension equipment denied.  If you instead wish to use pocket dimension equipment for transport and colonization purposes, please state such.

Request for satellite drone denied.  The "Death Star" currently has a complete satellite mapping grid, consisting of special-purpose stealthships."
