Never seen a fortress resemble post-WWII Germany before.
Let us be frank, gentlemen. Killer herds of undead grazing animals? Battle donkeys? Identical goblins? Dedicated necropoli? Artifice barrels? Slime lakes? Shit monsters? Forgotten beast incursions through artifact gem windows? Anti-gravity miners with fey moods?
Battlefailed is 2010's Boatmurdered.
I have no idea where anything is. I have no idea what anything does. This is not merely a madhouse designed by a madman, but a madhouse designed by many madmen, each with an intense hatred for the previous madman's unique flavour of madness.
Like a perfectly pleasant little tundra fortress still busy getting its stuff together, that somebody painted a lovely shade of murder.
Gemclod: let's all get killed and eaten
Gemclod is a "let's play" ran in 2010-2011 in the true spirit of SomethingAwful's succession games with tons of reader collaboration. Perhaps the largest Dwarf Fortress story so far, Gemclod has about 350 official updates, about the same number of fan journals, several dozens of pictures and even 13 custom-made pieces of music. Come join the last surviving members of the "Famous Palisade" in their desperate bit to found a fortress in a sinister swamp, far from the eyes of greenskins, the Arrogant Ones and grizzly bears. Only there can they build a splendid, amazing, truly fabulous Great Hall.
I've really run this fort into the ground. Half the military is dead or insane from the horrors of hell, six or so forsaken beasts are locked away in the caverns, the road into Deathgate has been painted with troll blood, we've slaughtered about 400 innocent animals via liberal application of a boot to the ass, a deer with its liver hanging out of its chest after two siege bolts to the face is still scaring the piss out of people using the old doom-bridge, and we have about a dozen ghosts routinely harassing our dwarves since I can't find or reach their corpses. As I speak, lava is pouring down the side of the mountain in the hopes it burns some of those damned goblins sieging us to death or at least drives them towards the troll-blood bridge. On the flip side, Armok's temple is almost complete and we've stolen enough goods from the humans to piss them off for a good decade.
It is really, really easy to flood this place with magma fwiw.
Doors stop fire, right?
So, let me get this straight. I have been the play-thing of gods and their vampire servants, I have led the unwashed masses into a new age of splendour and military accomplishment. I have died, and risen again. The power of flame and sword, of divine wrath itself, was not enough to stop me. I have battled zombies, had their grasping hands inches from my neck and still come out on top. My influence helped to purge the spirits of the undead from the halls of the fortress and returned a fellow being back into the halls of life. I spat in the eye of Armok himself!
All that, I have done. I have seen the rise and fall of many suns and moons, the turning of the world and one season blending into another in a dizzying blend. And it all ends in a muddy field with a bloody yak goring me. In true Necrothreat spirit, what a Troll
When Battlefailed fell, there were attempts to reclaim it and continue the awesome. They failed, the fort was flooded beyond belief and apparently no longer playable. They gave up and made Failcannon nearby. But then several months later. This happened. -TV Tropes Community Page
Gen a new HUGE world, and start playing from YEAR ONE. That would mean super low population. Super High Titan and mega beast population. And it would mean each Dwarf is "the first of their kind" No kids yet, no epic warriors, no time for anything. So EVERYTHING is new and from scratch.
Dwarf Fortress is often lauded as one of the most complicated games of all time. The interface is opaque, the learning curve a cliff. It's hard enough for experienced players to keep their forts safe and secure on the best of days.
So, what happens when a bunch of players play a succession fort while completely inebriated?
Drunk Fortress is a Dwarf Fortress succession game in which each player takes a turn playing while totally plastered. It's run on a "First Drunk First Serve" basis, in which whoever is consuming alcohol at the moment is the next player. As can be expected from such playing conditions, the fortress quickly became a labyrinthine mess of half-finished projects and forgotten passages, with magma leaking into the fort from every direction and hosting at least three tantrum spirals. And it is glorious.
After days of travel, she had arrived at the spot the princess had commanded. It was hot, and humid. The sound of a stream could be heard nearby, according to the map the stream was called, Bleachedroot the Pranks of Coincidence. The area was thick with plant life, and heavily forested with trees that looked unnatural, it seemed as if the very forest itself was hostile to the presence of the few terrified ponies. Charity decided that they would name the new fortress something happy, something to show that it was a shining point of civilization, inside the harsh and unforgiving jungle, and so it was decided that this would be Glitterglen, Strike the Earth!
Okay, sure, we came out here to strip-mine the local landscape, and trained a squad of axe-wielding child soldiers to slaughter the indigenous population as well as murder an ancient being's family and friends one by one right in front of him. Yes, Sinthad's life has been so brutal and bloody that she is little more than a dead-eyed killer at 19. Yes, the arrival of a kindly and just King did nothing to improve the lives of the dwarves, because the problem is not people like Logem but rather the entire dwarven culture. Yes, Glazedcoast is a glass box filled with mud and dead plants, covered in sickening phlegm, below which sits a festering hole leading deep into the bowels of the earth; yes, its major exports are weapons and suffering; yes, there is not a single family that has not lost a child to monsters or the arrogance of the military. I have had endangered birds shot and left their bodies to rot on the ground. I allowed a four-hundred-year-old vampire queen to be ripped limb from limb to discover the limits of her powers. I have thrown innocents into battle with vicious goblins simply because the amazing works of art they produced did not amaze me quite enough. I have made pies out of puppies.
This is grim? This is monstrous? THIS. IS. DWARF! FORTRESS!
*kicks human ambassador into a pit full of captured goblins; puts on gem-studded human-hair crown*
For being a story based on books about bloody cats, it is exceedingly Dwarven.
Plus, their Dwarves are somehow surviving without throats. That's hardcore.
25th Moonstone, 182, Early Winter - Water flooding of the top of guildhalls began this month, but with the sealed passages between the buildings accidentally closed off, the dwarves (restricted to the interior of the halls, via burrows) pathed along the exterior avenues. Four dwarves perished when water flow pushed them off of the streets to fall many z-levels to their deaths. Additionally, one dwarf died on the surface, slain by a goblin ambush before the military could rush to protect him. The total fortress population has been reduced to 96, with no new dwarves having been born since 157.
"HELLO, BAY12ERS. I WOULD LIKE TO PLAY A GAME. YES FLESHBAG, WE ARE GOING TO BE PLAYING A VERY SPECIAL GAME OF RTD TODAY."
The Warrens of Oric the Awesome is an illustrated 2D dungeon crawler suggestion game that got completely out of hand. Who are we? What's going on? Dear gods what is THAT? Should we have prevented that senseless death? Just how much of these walls can we loot?
Come join us for page after page of us theorizing on why we still don't know the answers to any of these.
The amount of malice in this thread is actually causing me some concern. I mean, chaining up mothers and forcing them to breed, just so we can drown their children to harvest their organs? Does this strike no one else as absolutely horrific?
You misspelled 'hilarious'
SO. I don't know if this is all going to lead to a functioning A.I, but at the very least when the above is installed and everything linked up, I will have essentially made the very first dwarfputed notepad. Hurray!
It's like regular childcare, except with more dogs, and less care.
...
The only issue is trying to get the child to survive without going berzerk. But then again, that might just turn into training for the other caged children, right?
Design ideas or implementation, anyone?
Well, this one would be a fine example for "Signs that you play Dwarf fortress (way) too much" thread.
The Toad himself assisted here. I support this.
The sponge now has a natural predator: THE WAGONMANCER
An aboveground farming-based fort which exports each and every ounce of food whenever a caravan stopped by, Breadbowl soon became menaced by goblins, titans, and worst of all, Hamsters.
Do we need to PM Toady about the sticky switching yet?
It is really, really easy to flood this place with magma fwiw.

I Nominated Failcannon.
I'd like to suggest the following tagline for Ardentdikes:It is really, really easy to flood this place with magma fwiw.

I cannot recall if I voted for Reginald Goblinstomper in the last thread. I'm almost positive I did, but in the event I didn't, I hereby cast my vote now.
I remember that, it was an awesome read. I vote for it, but are you going to finish the backstory to make it complete?
I cast a vote for The Life and Times of Reginald Goblinstomper, Elephant at Large to be included.
Ello strange roleplay peoples. Been a long time since i've posted here.
I recently dug up my forum past and was reacquainted with my community topic Warriors of Armok: Magma of Life (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=38137.0). With this topic getting some new life thrown into it I thought i'd bring it up if anyone wants to vote on it.
Some info:
Started.. wow, over 2 years ago now. Played using 40d, was the first dwarf vs dwarf tournament fighting thread, a heavy focus on detailed story-like battles with dwarven commentary and took place on a fort called The City of Worship, some screenshots below.Spoiler: The City of Worship (click to show/hide)
It's sortof finished and sortof unfinished. Abandoned because it took far too much work on my part to keep going but was pretty much finished fight-wise with only the backstory incomplete.

@Partydwarf, this was a v21.105.21 (2D) (Or there abouts) version of Dwarf Fortress from 2006/2007.
+1 vote to Severedcoils and Legend of Ungrashzon.

I got to checking out some tournaments threads, then some more, then somehow I ended up with a calalogue of all the threads I could find. Funny how that happens.
What i've learned: History repeats itself. By that I mean nobody learns from the previous tournament topics and most end up abandoning their project after seeing how much work they are. I thought that arena mode would make things easier but Warriors of Armok is still the longest (content-wise) one out there. Pity, they can be lots of fun when done right.
If WoA or any other tournament fighting thread got inducted, should they belong in their own catagory do you guys think?
Anyways this is what I ended up with. Only topics that actually had fights are listed.Spoiler: Known tournament fighting topics (click to show/hide)
Not including my own I think Deadliest Dwarf (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=40002.0) and Arena Battles (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=75211.0) were the best. I'd like to go so far as nominating Deadliest Dwarf. It had a really good run and though inspired by my thread took the idea down its own path of greatness.
Regarding Copperblazes:Quote from: Markavian, on the DFMA page@Partydwarf, this was a v21.105.21 (2D) (Or there abouts) version of Dwarf Fortress from 2006/2007.

I just realized Rimslaughters (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=66201.0) hasn't been nominated yet. Needs to be done; this will be the nomination, then. If nobody else can think of a good brief summary, I think its subtitle "Fifteen Ways to Die" sums it up pretty well.
I'll also put a vote in for "You have found..." because I've read it and it was hilarious.
1up for Failcannon and You have found...

I'd like to nominate an active story fort.

You people make me retch.
Well, actually you make me snicker, but only because it's only an ascii game and you're only murdering representations of semi-sentient beings.
I would like to nominate Communist Fortress, the active succession game I kicked off, but I won't. It went to hell very abruptly and undramatically in year 3 and shall stay there for the forseeable future.
Instead, I would like to vote for the worthy Gemclods. It must make the Hall!
ARENA BATTLES! I NOMINATE IT! WHY HAS IT NOT BEEN NOMINATED YET?!?!?!?!?!?!
Edit: Sorry for double post.
Jeeze! Take a chill pill!
I`d like to vote for gemclods.I`d like to vote for gemclods.
Dearest Munki,
I hope this letter may find you well... and preferably still at home. Please, do not, under any circumstances, travel to Frogtrampled now. I know I've spend the last few letters describing its beauty and trying to convince you to come. Those days are gone. It used to be a splendid place indeed, what with the boozefall and stuff, but you wouldn't like it now. Trust me. Its halls are empty, its engravings stripped of gems, its artifacts stolen, it's inhabitants dead. Eaten.
Except the seven of us. We're fleeing. Somewhere far, far away. Somewhere where it'll be safe. Somewhere where the forest beasts don't find us. Somewhere where we can hide from fear, in peace and harmony, living out our dreams.
I've already written about our dream, haven't I? I mean mine and Leperfish's? About the splendid Great Hall, several floors tall, with tall pillars, magnificent statues, windows made of the rarest gems, magma floor heating? It would be the best place to live – you could come and live with us too! And you know what? We still can do it. Yes, we've lost everything, but we will begin anew and this time it'll be grandiose. We've got a team of the best professionals and we'll do it. We'll build the Great Hall.
And I will be the Architect.
Sincerely yours,
Markus Cz. Orbsand

I Nominate The Reclaim of Battlefailed (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=76193.msg1929368#msg1929368).
...which I then vote for.
I third that reclimation.
which I will then +1 it.
Fifth vote for reclamation of battlefailed.
Also, nit-picking on D-22's descriptor. Zeus is the gas giant (Epsilon Eridani b IRL), a tidally locked moon orbiting Zeus is the thing that the team is currently on and is called Mahdavi.
I'd like to nominate the following for the description of Genclod

Nominating Rockfalls the Depths of Volcanoes (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=81183.0).
Description (taken from two lines in the second post): Twenty dwarves, a baby and a ghost entombed in a small three-story fortress under an ocean of magma. Let's see what happens when a society of dwarves in close quarters gets pressure-cooked.

Deathgate (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=84451.0)
Not quite there yet, but it is possibly the first succession game in all of DF history fort to breach hell, and survive long enough to colonize it.
Keep an eye on that succession game.
+1 for Deathgate.
Deathgate definitely deserves to be in the hall of legends, so +1 for deathgate.

Just to let you know that there's an archived version of Nist Akath (http://aaron.acephalo.us/nist-akath/elizar/). Is it possible to update the OP with this link?
Can we nominate ourselves? The Pyramid and the Inmates story in my signature were very popular when I made them, and I think I got an award for the pyramid. I built it before it was possible to place constructions with multiple tiles, so it took many real-life months to build. There's some screenshots in the thread. Inmates was maybe my most popular story. Skullcrusher Mountain did quite well too, and was maybe my favorite story ever. I did complete an overelaborate death trap, but then sadly I had to abandon it due to moving to another continent, so the story was never finished.

I'll add another +1 for Rockfalls the Depths of Volcanoes. Dante's imaginative concept and +illustrated+ updates, told from the perspective of multiple dwarves of varying personalities, make this story a winner.

I vote for on the nature of dwarves
and secondarily on the mermaid thread, since it gets referenced so often it may as well be up their for the perveiwal of all.
I'd vote for On the Nature of Dwarves, but it's already got 7/6 votes. Instead, I vote for the mermaid thread.

I would like to vote for On the nature of Dwarves.*PSST* it's already in the hall now...

I vote for that Aussieguy project too. The dwarven checkerboard.

I have no idea if AussieGuy Project has enough votes, so I'll vote for it as well.
An AussieGuy Project - The Dwarven Checkerboard has been inducted into the Hall of Legends! *da-durrr*
Let's see if my list of Insults to Hell is up-to-date...
I made the much-feared Clown Car into a simple game of checkers that anyone can make and play
I built a set of bedrooms, workshops, a small barracks, dining room and food storage INSIDE a Glowing Pit (Hence the name 'Pit House') and made the obligatory 'dining in Hell' joke.
I walled off the edge all around with far fewer dwarven casualties than you might think (Almost all the deaths were from being locked outside during goblin sieges)
When a few guys started going crazy with a quote stack, I forcibly dwarfed them and enslaved them to building the wall as masons
I dug a channel straight down and grew strawberries
I'm flooring over the Glowing Pits and smoothing/engraving all of Hell bit-by-bit in dwarven graffiti
I've raised bees for honey
I've filled the north side with water to create a pleasant beach
I've built one-room villas around what will be a pleasant lake for my dwarves to live in
I've declared myself King of Dwarven Hell
I'm having the dwarves use adamantine floors to mark the work "SWORDTHUNDERS" on Hell's surface to show just who it belongs to (with a border around the letters made of wood from the surface)
Bah, apparently the link to Nist Akath is broken- anybody know who I should yell at about it?Here, did some magic and I managed to create a work around for it http://aaron.acephalo.us/nist-akath/html/elizar/update1.html

Oh, nice! If you want a basic description; It kills the clown car with a boardgame, and then I went on to build a town in Hell in the same thread.
it's already pinned you know.
Hey, does the Facepalm thread fit into this? It's not exactly a story, but all the different little contributions to the thread range from informative to hilarious. I've been checking on it ever since I found it. The thread is also rather old and very long. I know its already stickied, but this thread is sort of a one-stop shopping spot for DF must reads and IMO is definitely something to keep an eye on. I nominate it, if it fits the criteria.

Ah, it’s so good to be back at home. After a hard day’s work in the sun. Right now, all is well. The land is at peace again. But it wasn’t always so. I’ll have many a story here to tell you little ones about a land far, far away, where I once called my home. A place where peace was only found in the dungeons. A place where we once inhabited; where we once lived in, now deserted. The place? Alright, gather around and please sit down if you will, children, while I repeat the histories of The Empire, as well as its fall. Our story begins in a little cottage on a field of cabbage…

Yeah, it was undead, now it's just dead and its rotting carcass will be a source of amazement to passersby.

Monk I'll throw in a vote for The Legend of Lagdon, cause its amazing! A TRULY EPIC BATTLE OF THE GIANTS!!!
I eagerly await the return in the sequel. Rubin! Creer (dead :'( )! Jason! You guys are awesome! :D

Legend of Lagdon is pretty cool. I'll replace one of the votes.
I'm fairly certain I didn't just vote for something just because it was popular, well, besides hellcannon...
Legend of Lagdon is pretty cool. I'll replace one of the votes.
No offense if it truely is a story that deserves to be on the same page as Boatmurdered and Nist Akath, I haven't read it, but I personally don't think someone who would create multiple accounts to vote his own story in should be rewarded with induction even if more people vote on it.
On the same subject I think people should be a lot more picky about what they vote in in general. Before the renewal of this topic (and when the old one was still being updated) an induction was a rare thing indeed and a big deal. It seems more that a fort or story gets inducted more because it's popular then legendary, and i'm saying this right up to my own topic which was pretty new with not much to show for and should probably have stood the test of time before being considered. Some of the people who voted it in like The Master I think never even posted in it.
I'll go so far as to request that Cyberdorf Systems be removed and a set minimum of months be put in before being allowed to be nominated. 2 months maybe?
Basically, be picky! This is the Hall of Legends, not the Hall of Popular.
(no offence to the people who voted in my topic, just knowing that you like it is enough and I thank you)
No, there's an active section, and a finished section.
that's why we remove those ones, IF and WHEN that happens. The system has worked fine for years, there's no need to change anything.
I also vote for a removal. No offense to the genius who is working on that.
Eric, if this were somethingawful, then that would be a great idea. But it isn't, and the quality your thinking of doesn't exist nine-times-out-of-ten here. Plus, we'd have to dump nearly the entire hall, and that's just not fair at all to ANYONE.
There's forts that last years, so yeah, being completed shouldn't need to be a requirement.I also vote for a removal. No offense to the genius who is working on that.
I wasn't really suggesting a vote, i'm the author. :-XEric, if this were somethingawful, then that would be a great idea. Hold on, nobody is suggesting that all inducties that are less then X number of months be removed, just that it should be a rule for inductions from now on. I withdrew my own topic out of principle. Also, that's exagerating things quite a bit saying "nearly the entire hall"...

A civilization simultaneously great and doomed to die through tangible tragedies, tragedies not the fault of dwarven action but merely the inherent failures of their existence. Solemn and nobles dwarves go about the hallowed business of preserving the spark of civilization inherited from their long-gone forefathers, even as the filthy trolls despoil the very tombs that represent their connection to the past and their near-futures.
So, too, is the fortress being ground down. Dwarves die from uncontrollable accidents, unfulfillable moods, and unstoppable ghosts every year, slowly but surely. Poltergeists seize items and hurl them at helpless civilians. Pillars of smoke rise from the southwestern quarter. Unwanted clothing in various stages of decay litter the streets. Mischievous spirits occasionally pull levers, and angry ghosts throw dwarves into violent tantrums. Even if the enemy was not being unleashed on the centennial, Weatherwires could not possibly last forever. A few years, decades maybe, but not forever.I'm not sure if it's well known enough to be considered a legend, but it is definitely an amazing story worthy of recognition and a read.

Weatherwires: Children of Dwarves (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=93279.0) is pretty lengthy (since September 2011 and up to 40 pages) and amazing. It's a centennial fort where the dwarves seal themselves in a giant underground dome and become mysteriously infertile while being whittled down by murderous ghosts.
Here are 2 cool quotes from somewhere in the middle of the thread (Flagrance's is altered to look appropriate as an intro). The story is currently winding down to a conclusion.A civilization simultaneously great and doomed to die through tangible tragedies, tragedies not the fault of dwarven action but merely the inherent failures of their existence. Final vote for the Bronze Colossus murder.
It surprises me.
Because how the fuck did it not get in there earlier.
That fort was not finished and did even have an ending. So -1 for that fort. You might notice that it's still in the "active" category.

Actually, why is something up for voting for march? Shouldn't the latest be February? Not that I have a problem with it, just wondering what happened there?
Can you only vote for it during that month or is that when it joins the ones that can be voted?
Btw, thanks for the change. I plan on reviewing some to make sure that they are of true legendary quality. I expect everything to be of at least something awful quality to even be close to eligible.
Also, I'm voting down the eternal halls. That fort was not finished and did even have an ending. So -1 for that fort.
It's fine man, we all fail.
I promised to write one chapter in my story a day but.... :(
Things get in the way. Oh well, your being active right now! :D Being so cool and answering all of my annoying questions.
I also just noticed that no one is talking about Hellcannon anymore. What happened?
It died.It didn't.
If I haven't voted for Cyberdorf, then count me in.
Pretty sure I have though... Hmmm.....
Honestly I can't see Hellcannon getting any votes until it's back up to the standards of it's predecessors. Namely, horrific bloodshed and insanity, less meta-gaming and more masterwork updates.

I nominate Weatherwires (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=93279.0). It was long, tragic, moving, and awe-inspiring, and embodies the "losing is fun and epic" spirit of Dwarf Fortress.
Actually, since it has already been nominated, I second its nomination if nominations are still required.
Downvoting "My Little Fortress: Glitterglen". While it's an interesting tale, a massive RP occurance featuring My Little Pony-themed characters doesn't seem to fit the theme of things that new players absolutely SHOULD see when being introduced to dwarf fortress, nor does it seem to fit (in my opinion), seeing as it doesn't involve dwarves themselves.
I vote for glitterglen to stay up on the hall of legends
new players should understand the wide verity of thing that the mod community can put out.
What if a MLP fortress was, hypothetically, the absolute best ever thing written? What if the other legends paled in comparison? Would it still not belong because it is MLP?
Well, what if it were not MLP would that mean that it would deserve to be here. I personally think that just cuz the MLP mod is in place it doesn't change the quality of writing.
and how does the MLP mod change the gameplay?
With mermaid farming impossible and worthless anyway, where do I turn for expensive and exotic animal breeding experiments? Elephants look very good as a candidate. But although they are a huge winner in every practical way, elephants are boring. They’re too easy. I wanted to try farming something exotic and valuable, and preferably aquatic. Sea serpents fit that role. They’re aquatic and extremely rare, making the project pointlessly difficult and requiring greatly overcomplicated means to set up a working farm.
The main issues in order of importance seem to be:
1. The fortress isn't really all that special. (It's only special to bronies; viewed objectively, it's just another fortress.)
2. There's a lot of RPing at the end of the thread that is really just making things a cluttered mess.
3. The mod, like the fortress, is nothing all that special, except to bronies.
I'm not going to vote on it either way as 1: I haven't read it, because 2: I don't like MLP:FiM - or at least how rabid the fanbase is, I don't really care much about the show - so I'm not going to upvote it and my downvote would be biased - don't like the subject material, haven't read the thread - and therefore unfair.
What about Sphalerite's solution to Mermaid farming in DF2010?
On the Farming of Sea Serpents (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=75780.0)With mermaid farming impossible and worthless anyway, where do I turn for expensive and exotic animal breeding experiments? Elephants look very good as a candidate. But although they are a huge winner in every practical way, elephants are boring. They’re too easy. I wanted to try farming something exotic and valuable, and preferably aquatic. Sea serpents fit that role. They’re aquatic and extremely rare, making the project pointlessly difficult and requiring greatly overcomplicated means to set up a working farm.To catch the sea serpents Sphalerite first sets up a device that literally drains the ocean at will but deems it too risky to the serpents, so he builds a mid ocean platform. Again it's not enough so he turns the whole coast into a trap. And then manages to create a working breeding pen for them while they're still wild. This is all after he walls off the map edges so the things would show up in the first place.

Kor Fightevil the Power of Mortals (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=99987.0).
The tale of one of the dwarfiest dwarves in the multiverse, a dwarf with a kill list so large it can crash DF, a tale of a dwarf utterly destroying all the evils of this world, unknowingly bringing elves into power, and then crushing said elves, finally bringing the world into the age of dwarves. And he did it all without any help.
Kor Fightevil's story was just posted today. I'd prefer to wait a few weeks and watch commentary and what the author has to say (whose story is, as Urist_McArathos pointed out, somewhat suspicious).Agreed. He also worded it as if his character needed to eat and drink, when in the current version, you don't need to at all. Furthermore, I think it is HIGHLY unlikely that he just HAPPENED to have the save on a flash drive that was conveniently left in his pocket and went through the wash, then be able to write that long description completely from memory. I'm calling total bullshit on this one.

As it's less than a week before March, is it possible to put a vote down for a nominee ahead of time?
Voting on: Weatherwires: Children of Dwarves (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=93279.0).
I'm so glad this exists. Was scrolling through the first page and spotted Choose Your Own DF - Goblin Blight Island. Wow I loved that tale, so glad it's here.
Noticed it's still marked as being active though - is that an oversite or do we all want to see it continue so much that a year+ of inactive doesn't mean it's over?
Heyaa... Hoping I'm right about how this works. I nominate Dwarven... "Child Care" (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=91093.0) for the Hall of Legends.
Basically, it was the idea (partially successful) of turning children into superpowered fireproof warriors by the time they were 12... using extremely controversial methods.

While I tend to be picky about what fortresses go up, this one is deserving, but I'm not sure if it should go down as a construction or as a story.
I'd like to give a vote for Matul Remrit, Bravemule (http://www.bravemule.com/).
A vote for Weatherwires (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=93279.0) please. Genuinely jaw-dropping in places.
So...Found this on the DF Adventure Mode board.
Adventures on Monster Island (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=101941.0)
Any thoughts if this should be inducted into the Hall?
While I think it's honestly a bit early (the thread's only been up for a couple weeks), it can't hurt to nominate it now, since voting will occur, unless I'm mistaken, in May.
I also vote for Weatherwires.
I vote for Weatherwires as well.

March has already started, so more like June.
I think.
On another note, the new system is working. If a story gets in it actually deserves it and it isn't just OMG new thread!

Pit fighting toddlers equals Dwarven ‼Science‼ at its finest.
An update on one of the first games to make it into the hall of legends, a game that has been in the active category ever since.
The game ran for more than three years, but the inevitable has finally happened, Halltraded has come to an end. Floods, fires, elves, goblins, undead carp, tantrum spirals, alcohol bans and exploding suicide trade caravans could not bring it down. A lot of things in this fortress failed, but it also failed to die. We finally decided to abandon and move on.
I vote for adventure guy!

Hello!
I wish to nominate an active fort being hosted on Broken Forum. It is called Glazedcoast, and it is magnificent.
Hm, brief synopsis... I shall quote the creator, Bleaktea:
"Okay, sure, we came out here to strip-mine the local landscape, and trained a squad of axe-wielding child soldiers to slaughter the indigenous population as well as murder an ancient being's family and friends one by one right in front of him.
THIS. IS. DWARF! FORTRESS!
*kicks human ambassador into a pit full of captured goblins; puts on gem-studded human-hair crown*"

I vote Weatherwires.
Also why do you keep the vote system for finished threads?
Okay, off topic here, don't want to derail too much buuut...
...Whats with all the penguins?
I nominate Brightwater.
Brightwater: Community fortress of science, oceans, and animal taming-as author describes it. This is fortress journal story-but there are not only OP's part of stories but also other palyers claim dwarfs and make notes/daries/journals from their face. It's what makes this story valuable adding to beautiful writing style of Sphalerite and the idea of frotress itself.

Bravemule, by the way, is neither abandoned nor inactive. It is still receiving updates, albeit very slowly. The next one is due the end of May.
EDIT: Also, it is definitely not a succession game, as it is the write up a single player's game.

Has The Age Of Myth: Goldenhold been nominated? I'd like to do so if it hasn't.

It's a novel-length story about the downfall of the largest dwarven metropolis ever described, by two great armies of humans and goblins, and the subsequent invasion by horrors from the deep.

Just throwing this out there if no-one's heard, but Something Awful has started another DF LP, and it's already shaping up to be a glowing testement to the memory of Boatmurdered and Gemclod.

Actually, as the author I discount this for several reasons. I am the one in this thread who proposed we stopped putting stories in here like whores, an while it was long the story faltered in several parts. Plenty of stories are worth reading, and Goldenhold was. But it isn't a MUST BE READ for Dwarf Fortress.
The story does not represent Dwarf Fortress in several ways. If you want me to post a terribly long explanation why it does not, I will. But towards the end I realized my failure, and I'm going to revisit it sooner or later. After I do platinumgod since I finally admitted I needed to start planning out my stories, and throw out chapter 4.
This fort got nominated earlier, and several of the active contributors objected, saying it was much too early for it to be entered into the prestigious Hall. However, considering what has happened between then and now, I think it's time.
Behold, Hellcannon (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=96005.0). A monument to all our sins.
Quick list of major accomplishments:
1. Broke what was left of Strategia's sanity, causing him to do a post a la House of Leaves. (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=96005.msg2788457#msg2788457)
2. The fort refused to acknowledge its own death. (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=96005.msg2821771#msg2821771)
3. Had a time warp due to file corruption, caused by a particularly potent bug. (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=96005.msg2823492#msg2823492)
4. 5. Released the clowns, who refused to enter the upper levels of the fortress. Probably out of fear, considering the madness that had enveloped the fort. (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=96005.msg3337646#msg3337646)
It is currently arcangelsd's turn. He says he has pulled ALL THE LEVERS, and mentioned something about exploding children. His update is due out tomorrow. We're waiting like caffeinated nerds at an Apple convention.
Oh, and there's some great roleplaying/writing in there, including Eric Blank's start on his Epic of Aluonra. Deathsword undertook the massive task of archiving the Battlefailed Saga (can't say trilogy anymore, since we're working on starting a fourth), which you may want to include if Hellcannon joins the other two forts in the Hall. The link is in the Hellcannon OP.
Instead of posting each story individually in this thread as a different entry, simply make the series legendary and post the original battlefailed thread along with the download file (i was hoping for archived like gemclod. Oh well. Can't ask for too much). And traditionally post a small description of the series as well. Take this in stead of posting/voting each individually. If the major players / readers of the series believe a sequel in it is unworthy allow them to sort it out for themselves.
This will avoid crowding I believe, along with setting up a system in a future for other long good series (these forums are growing more popular, after all). Additionally the stories seemed to be focused around the idea of a DF 2010 Boatmurdered so what they bring to the table is similar. Correct me if I'm wrong but I also believe that several of the writers/readers are the same.
If this option would be too much of a hassle could I instead opt for a thread with links to the others. Is it possible to lock a thread you made to others?
Okay. I've thought of a better way to explain it. The writing style is the same as that of boatmurdered- it's about insanity and most of the times the writers are unsensitive to death. This is a consistency among all three of those stories- they are defined by the tragedies. Did you see the list he gave? "Here is how we've successfully managed to fuck ourselves up." It's not BAD, but it is sort of like boatmurdered where we make fun of elephants. Also, the writers tend to act more like players than like the dwarves they are roleplaying.
I'll throw a vote in for Brightwater then, I found/find it thoroughly enjoyable to read.

As I understand it, the above suggestion by Mego and RabidAnubis means that any subsequent fortresses in the "Battlefailed" series are immediately inducted into the Hall of Legends, nominated or not, and regardless of the number of votes it receives. Although I see the value in getting the "full story" instead of just getting links to the best among them, I'm against the idea, as the Hall is supposed to be for only "the best of the best" - those threads worthy to be ranked among legends such as Boatmurdered and Nist Akath. If a fortress was to come along in the series that was determined to be greatly sub-par, it would still automatically have a place here, and I really don't like the thought of that.
I'm not saying that Hellcannon isn't worthy of The Hall, I'm just saying I feel spots here ought to be earned. It shouldn't be difficult to obtain six votes for it, correct?
What I'm saying actually works against me, in a way - my favorite succession fort, Spearbreakers, is itself part of the Headshoots/Syrupleaf series branch from Boatmurdered. While I'd feel safer for it to be guaranteed a spot, I don't feel it would be right. Moreover, it raises the question: "How do you determine if a series is great enough to merit being given a guaranteed spot in the Hall of Legends for all future fortresses?"
A hypothetical reader coming in expecting a true continuation and expansion of what happened at Syrupleaf likely be very sorely disappointed.

Or, another question, is there such a level of greatness, or should each individual fortress have to prove itself?
I vote for Glazedcoast (http://brokenforum.com/index.php?threads/dwarf-fortress-vd-staying-dry.1003/), because I've rarely seen a DF story this well written. Plus, it's extremely hilarious. Everybody should read this.I, for one, deem Glazedcoast to be legend-worthy indeed. It's all fun and games until rotting orphans start turning up, and then it's just hilarious. Also, the head of Glazedcoast Board of Tourism must be a Legendary +5 Liar... :P

So, +1 vote for Glazedcoast.
I give my voice to Glazedcoast.
I'd also like to vote for Glazedcoast, it's by far the most entertaining Dwarf Fortress story that I've read in a good long while.
I would like to note that Glitterglen has concluded some months ago.

Necrothreat
Necrothreat
Necrothreat
Could you give a link to that
Only one vote for Hellcannon so far?
Seconded. Any fort that lived at 0 population deserves mention.
I personally would like to nominate Spearbreakers, since no one else seems to be working up the balls to do so, and cast my vote for it.
EDIT: After being informed of Hall rules, heres the specifics for the nomination of Spearbreakers
Linky-Linky: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=102730.0
Description: A succession fort that started as a broad ranging sequel to nearly all the greats, Spearbreakers, like the awesome bastard son of a king, has moved away from trying to succeed them in favor of being a fresh new experience full of modded monstrocities stuck on inaccessible ledges, a hospital with a killcount higher then the resident superdorf, and a science fiction subplot that is more convoluted then that of Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid mashed together by a chimpanzee on LSD.
Come visit Spearbreakers, where you will walk inside, and immediately be suffocated by mugs!
Necrothreat
Could you give a link to that
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=19244.15
But as BFEL said, we are FAR FAR FAR (can't stress enough how far) from the hall. Anyway, you asked for the link so I provide.
For Roll to Dodge, I'd like to nominate/vote for Einsteinian Roulette (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=106279.0)
Only one vote for Hellcannon so far?
Seconded. Any fort that lived at 0 population deserves mention.
I vote for Adventure Guy!
Only one vote for Hellcannon so far?
Seconded. Any fort that lived at 0 population deserves mention.
I'm too lazy to update my nomination with the rest of the epic stuff that happened in the fort. Would you like to take care of that?
Going to add a vote to the Hellcannon nomination.
Only one vote for Hellcannon so far?

Here's one.Spoiler: Hellcannon Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I'll lend a vote towards Hellcannon.
Noticed Soaplanterns mentioned in one of the early posts here...I sure miss that place. =(
I'll be number 5 for adventure guy.
I lend my weighty, years-old forum membership whole heartedly to the vote for SeveredCoils! It deserves inclusion. More focused on narrative than the blood, gore, and chaos that often defines a Dwarf Fortress tale -and yet not lacking that in the slightest.
I'd like to add another vote for Severedcoils, if only because my character in that fortress is the Philosopher.
Voting for Spearbreakers.
A vote for Necrothreat, please.
I vote for the misadventures of the fourmites of Necrothreat
I vote for necrothreat.
Question; I see Severedcoils' nomination is listed under "December." What happens in December? Do I lose all of my votes, or only those given in that month?
I don't feel I have the right to vote for either Spearbreakers or Necrothreat, as I've played an extensive role in founding both, but I will give a vote to "Facepalm Moments You Had" - not that it'll make that much of a difference, having only one vote so far. :P I got a lot of great laughs from that thread. It's stickied. I don't think a stickied thread needs to be listed in the Hall of Legends. XD
Vote for Spearbreakers. Amazing writers, great people, and interesting things happen there. Also Spawn of Holistic a la Mr Frog!^ Also, this, and chalk one up for Einsteinian Roulette, where the newbies are raining textual hell on current destructive events. :P
Didn't realize that - good point. :PI don't feel I have the right to vote for either Spearbreakers or Necrothreat, as I've played an extensive role in founding both, but I will give a vote to "Facepalm Moments You Had" - not that it'll make that much of a difference, having only one vote so far. :P I got a lot of great laughs from that thread. It's stickied. Ok. I think Spearbreakers has enough votes. Can we call it a day?People are free to vote for whichever topic or thread they like, sir. :P

I've already voted for it, but seriously folks, check out Rockfalls the Depths of Volcanoes (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=81183.0), it very much deserves induction.
+1 for Rockfalls from me :DRockfalls is pretty cool. Giving it a vote.

Well, considering it has been nominated by TVtropes itself, I think it should be. Also, it introduces a new way to play, so therefore it is unique. I nominate Drunk fortress.
nooomn thw ducks have come to tak e ou wealth +1
Lmao, HugoLuman. As I recall, you have to wait a month after it's nominated, so none of those votes count yet...
Or I may be thinking of spartans or maybe DF players who's champion's son does that.
Nominee: Deebus: A Kobold Story
Link: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=106920.0 (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=106920.0)
The story of the epicest kobold who ever lived. EVER. This is what you get when the only civs in a world are Kobolds. (yay crappy summary because I suck at summaries!)
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=116045.0 (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=116045.0)
-TVtropes
I'd like to add a vote for CryptIrons. The time spent crafting each story chapter into vivid imagery is well worthy of inclusion.
I'm also adding my +1 for Rimslaughter and Armok's Gauntlet in addition to my earlier vote for Rockfalls
I don't think I ever added a vote for "Dwarven... "Child Care"" - that thread is a de-facto legend even if it hasn't been inducted formally yet. Definitely +1 for that.
I vote for Dwarven Child Care
I will vote for three if I may
Spearbreakers
Dwarven...Childcare
If Bay Forum were a Mountianhome
It is my firm belief that these three will be used in Bay12's commitment hearing.
and chalk one up for Einsteinian Roulette, where the newbies are raining textual hell on current destructive events. :P
I vote for Spearbreakers.
Splint does too, but doesn't want to say it for his own thread.
Gonna vote for Spearbreakers.
A vote (and extra Mug) For Spearbreakers!!
Let the !!SCIENCE!! go on!
Vote for Spearbreakers. Amazing writers, great people, and interesting things happen there. Also Spawn of Holistic a la Mr Frog!
I have to vote for Spearbreakers honestly it is one of the best forts I have read in a while (the spawn help) and even without their help every single dwarf is ALREADY nuts.
I vote for Spearbreakers.
I vote for Spearbreakers as well, even though it probably already has enough to get into the Hall of Legends :p
Add another vote for Spearbreakers, just for good measure :-P
Adding one more vote to Spearbreakers.
ill join you on spearbreakers.
I vote for speakbreakers!
Ok. I think Spearbreakers has enough votes. Can we call it a day?
+1 for Rockfalls from me :DRockfalls is pretty cool. Giving it a vote.

A vote for Rockfalls
+1 Rockfalls
+1 Rockfalls.
+1 Rockfalls, yo.
I'm adding a +1 for Rockfalls too.
Voting for rock falls as it is awesome! Plus its an inspiration to other adventurous souls. So yes, please induct.
Why is Facepalm moments in for votes? I want to vote for it but I'm just curious as to why.
Glazedcoast! is no longer active, and thus can be moved from the Active listing to Finished.
Sure.Ditto.
I vote for hellcannon.
Sure.Ditto.
I vote for hellcannon.
I mean Undead above ground AND below? How often does that happen?
Edit: +1 for Skyscrapes too. If that was real, it would be in at least the top 20 for the worlds tallest buildings. It's like Taipei 101 minus the top floor and the roof.
Haven't gotten around to reading Hellcannon yet, but I'll vote for Skyscrapes, for the sheer badassery of keeping aboveground construction consistent between years and players. Well, except when they didn't but Necromancers must piss themselves with envy at the great dwarven middle finger.
I'd feel stupid if I voted for my own thing, so I won't.
Actually, surviving at 0 pop? +1 for Hellcannon.
+1 for Hellcannon
+1 for Hellcannon.
+1 for Skyscrapes.
+1 for !!DrunkFortress!!
+1 for Skyscrapes
+1 for Drunk Fortress
+1 for Drunk Fortress. Try it, if you haven't :D
Not being a DrunkFortress player myself, I can without guilt add my +1 for its hilarity.
+1 for the little realm of broken insanity that is !!DRUNKFORTRESS!!
Also +1 for DrunkFortress!
+1 for Drunk Fortress, yes.
Yeah, a dwarf fortress played by humans trying to be dwarves. You can guess who I'm voting for.
Oh I see. That makes sense. Why the extra wait, though?
Oh I see. That makes sense. Why the extra wait, though?
Oh I see. That makes sense. Why the extra wait, though?
It mostly has to do with how hellcannon was almost included in the hall after no wait. Me and several others said "wait a second" and said that it should have to be a powerful story in order to be legendary, not just the fact that it is in series. Recently it was deemed worthy and I believe it to be, but it was just the idea of fast inclusion. We were concerned that the hall of legends would dribble down to nothing.
Deathgate has concluded and is no longer active.
Also, booyah for breaking the character limit.
Ardentdikes isn't active anymore. It was flooding with magma in the last save and too bugged to continue.
I have a nomination for the Hall, an Epic Adventure at the Dawn of Time (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=108291.0). The idea, according to the author, is to "Gen a new HUGE world, and start playing from YEAR ONE. That would mean super low population. Super High Titan and mega beast population. And it would mean each Dwarf is "the first of their kind" No kids yet, no epic warriors, no time for anything. So EVERYTHING is new and from scratch." It is the story of not one but many dwarves, and follows their quest as they attempt to found a fortress at the dawn of the world.
The quest has been divided into two parts. The first uses adventure mode to create unique dwarves and bring them to the mountain home. It is a community story, and players take turns creating a character and trying to bring them to the designated spot halfway across the world. Most try and fail, but a few succeed. Both the failures and triumphs are recorded on the thread linked above, or you can read the journeys so far in this PDF (http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=7233). 6 of the 7 necessary to found a fortress have been gathered, and the last will soon begin.
The second part, set to begin as soon as 7 have made it, will record their attempt to found a fortress at the dawn of time, and I look forward to their further adventures. The thread has been going on for almost a year, and I don't expect it to be finished any time soon! But what has transpired so far is enough for a recommendation to the hall.
(As a side note, I know dwarf fortress is not fleshed out enough for this to happen logistically. When the fort is founded, 7 new dwarves will be introduced into the game. But game mechanics are advanced enough so that the original 7 will eventually immigrate in to the fortress with their history intact. It might take several years, but eventually the original 7 will be gathered again.)
I must add my vote for Skyscrapes. Honestly can't believe that thing got completed.
A random observation: According to the maths, out of all the threads posted in Community Games and Stories/Dwarf Mode Discussion/DF General Discussion, only 0.175% actually make it into the Hall of Legends.

Like a perfectly pleasant little tundra fortress still busy getting its stuff together, that somebody painted a lovely shade of murder.
I vote for: If Bay forums were a mountain hall, if votes are still applicable, for its sheer amounts of awesome! and !!insanity!!.
+1 For Deebus. That guy has demons in his kill list!
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=122543.0 (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=122543.0)
I would like to nominate the threads Screw the Next Player Over for consideration into the Hall of Legends
Screw the Next Player Over (StNPO) is a multi-thread succession fort (currently starting its 3rd iteration) with a simple concept: You play a standard turn, then include some sort of "trap" for the next overseer on their turn. The trap cannot destroy the fortress and the players cannot hack the game to make the trap.
Each player must also create a challenge for the next overseer to complete, with a prize for their dorf for winning and a punishment for failing. This challenge can be as elaborate as the overseer likes.
Hellcannon needs a quote for the OP. How about this?Like a perfectly pleasant little tundra fortress still busy getting its stuff together, that somebody painted a lovely shade of murder.
+1 for Skyscrapes.
+1 for Epic Adventure at the Dawn of Time. Awesome read :)
Oh hell
+1 for Epic Adventure at the Dawn of Time.
I just want to nominate Oceanbridge (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=93958.0), which has nearly compleated a bridge across almost an entire region tile of ocean.
Having seen it in the nominees and read part of it, I'd like to vote for the awesome Einsteinian Roulette (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=106279.0)This is already in its respective Hall of Fame - The RTD subboard of the Forum Games and Roleplaying section.
I'll vote for Adventures on Monster Island. Too bad about that cliffhanger on Vanod, but good arts and good reads. It's partly the inspiration for Deebus.
A vote for both Adventures on Monster Island and Epic Adventure at the Dawn of Time.
I'll put in a vote for monster island. I loved that thing.
+1 for Monster Island!
+1 for Epic Adventure at the Dawn of Time
Not until June atcually. There's a one month waiting period, remember?
Oh, and +1 for Oceanbridge.
Having seen it in the nominees and read part of it, I'd like to vote for the awesome Einsteinian Roulette (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=106279.0)
I just scanned through the entire hall... And noticed something. Why is this (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=61507.0) not in here yet? I mean honestly, look at it!Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Edit: This is a nomination.
why are sphalerites sea-serpent farming and (i think sphalerite's) thread on demon-webbing/demon-silk not on the 'ingenuity' list?
Also thatAussieGuy made a giant diamond fort for reclaim that will explode if a migrant isn't sacrificed each year through some hidden mechanisms. That's some damned ingenuity too.
The link the to oilfurnace leads to a 404 error now.

Can I nominate the hall of legends to go into the hall of legends? I mean, it's worth it.+1 to Hall of Legends.
You people know it's stickied, right? Please don't waste thread space for these despite its hilarity. :PCan I nominate the hall of legends to go into the hall of legends? I mean, it's worth it.+1 to Hall of Legends.
+1 For the Spire!
+1 for the Spire!
And another +1 for the Spire for good measure.
You people know it's stickied, right? Please don't waste thread space for these despite its hilarity. :PCan I nominate the hall of legends to go into the hall of legends? I mean, it's worth it.+1 to Hall of Legends.
...+1 to that.
+1 to the Spire once again..because it someone wasn't in here in the first place.
I would like to nominate The Adventures of Likot Soapeater (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=109582.0) for the hall of legends.
I nominate The Black Cat Brewery (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=120075.0) to the Hall of Legends.
Can I nominate the hall of legends to go into the hall of legends? I mean, it's worth it.
+1 for the spire, but ER ... doesn't have anything to do with DF.
At all.
Oh wait.
+1 for ER.
There's a category for RTD, so it's still applicable. Haven't read it though.
Anyway, +1 For the Spire.
-1 for the Hall itself, if I can. Inducting it is simply pointless. It's not as if listing itself would help people find it.
Now I feel bad for not voting for IBFWAMH. I just don't feel right voting for things I'm involved in. Just 1 vote...
+1 Deebus
+1 Spire
+1 hall of legends
+ 1 for The Adventures of Likot Soapeater!
Awwww, If Bay Forum Was a Mountain Hall was entirely deserving of a place, in my opinion... But I didn't feel right voting for it, either, especially as I started a community fort for it.
And, as to the 2212-z Adamantine Spire, I can't believe that's not in here. Voting for it. And Lol at the Hall of Legends, but I'm not voting for it because I'd prefer it not to become a joke... Plus, it's stickied, and if it wasn't, voting for it wouldn't serve a purpose anyway - the thread would get lost, regardless of whether or not it had a link to itself. Still... I laughed.
+1 for the Legendary Spire
+1 for Deebus
+1 for Epic Adventure at the Dawn of time
This is an awesome collection of dwarven epicness.
+1 vote for Deebus.
+1 for Oceanbridge.
Nomination for Hetarios's Wirejade: An Uninvited Gust [SPOILERS] (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=123997.0)

Became this:Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Also
+1 Deebus
I just noticed that E.R. is on the nominee list twice... I guess that means it has 3 votes now...
Shouldn't Bravemule be moved to the Finished section now?
Is there a clever reason my votes weren't counted?
The journey of Deebus, a kobold story (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=106920.0) has been inducted into the Hall of Legends! *dadurrrr!*
Well, this one would be a fine example for "Signs that you play Dwarf fortress (way) too much" thread.
I nominate The Dwarfposal (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=128788.0) to the hall of legends. The Toad himself assisted here. I support this.

Vote it in now!
+1 Dwarfposal. Saw it on Reddit and loved it....It spread O_o
This is not a good summary which explains it. Because I'm unsure if this points at other things than 'Truly inspired by Dwarf Fortress being a hobby.'Well, this one would be a fine example for "Signs that you play Dwarf fortress (way) too much" thread.
The sponge now has a natural predator: THE WAGONMANCER
Is it possible to nominate Moltenchannels in here? If it has already been nominated,
+1 Moltenchannels
I'd like to nominate

I'd like to nominate The newest Sparkgear to the hall of legends. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=128134.0
+1 to Black Cat Brewery, Likot, Hall of Legends, and Bronzestabbed.
+1 for the Hall of Legends.
I'd like to vote for my own thread, but I feel like that might be a bit silly. I'll try anyways and see how it goes.
So, when it works, +1 Black Cat.
+1 for The Adventures of Likot Soapeater
Here's a vote for Likot Soapeater.

And for summary,Well, this one would be a fine example for "Signs that you play Dwarf fortress (way) too much" thread.
Vote it in now!
+1 for Dwarfposal. I know the rules, but in this one case, I doubt we need to see whether the thread endures beyond the initial month of excitement.
+1 Dwarfposal.

Anyway, +1 to the Dwarfposal too.

I place a vote for the Museum for its legendary entertainer skill!
Definitely +1 for The Museum
+1 for The Museum please. A thread I nominated is going to get into the Hall! Epic win! (still a few months until my turn though...)
I'll plus one to Necrothreat, if I hadn't already.
If I have, then +1 to the second one.
Do we have a story reason for forumites to keep coming back, or is it better to keep giving them new names?
Story, man. Story. We might be overdoing it a bit, but hell. In this place, being revived is a curse, not a blessing.
These two quotes sum it up, I think. The second one I'm a wee bit biased on, 'cause I wrote it, but I think it puts across the message.
All that, I have done. I have seen the rise and fall of many suns and moons, the turning of the world and one season blending into another in a dizzying blend. And it all ends in a muddy field with a bloody yak goring me. In true Necrothreat spirit, what a Troll
I'm a little confused of the Nomination process, but I give a +1 or a second for it if that's needed(?)I'll plus one to Necrothreat, if I hadn't already.
If I have, then +1 to the second one.
If you haven't that's great. If you have it means you nominate Necrothreat II- http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=120751.0

Necrothreat was pretty good, I'll +1
Giving Necrothreat a +1. Both the mod and the fort were pretty entertaining, though it feels like it ended prematurely.

You can start voting for a story one month after it's been nominated.
...QuoteAlso thatAussieGuy made a giant diamond fort for reclaim that will explode if a migrant isn't sacrificed each year through some hidden mechanisms. That's some damned ingenuity too.
Because they have not yet been nominated and voted on, same as any other thread not in the Hall of Legends. If you would like to nominate them yourself, merely supply the links and a brief summary.
...
I've seen people make forts. I've seen them show off their amazing architecture and the finished project. The problem is, they're finished and there's not much to do if you go poking at the savegame.
So I made something different. A reclaim designed to be played.
That alone isn't fun though. Anyone can make a basic fort and share it.
So I did something different. I combined several things I'd learned from dwarf fortress mechanics and physics to create something special - The Spire of Armok.
A fort suspended in a carved-out square chasm that is 22z tall. Within are bedrooms, barracks, workshops, a hospital, mechanical power, even automated running water and the startings of the same for magma. There are deluxe rooms for Nobles and dwarves you think excel, as well as a golden throneroom should the king arrive. There's also a layer of underground soil with farms, as well as an enclosed layer of surface trees should you want a safe supply of wood (the local goblins are quite regular visitors).
All good things, however, are not without their price. The Spire is connected to a rather fun little project called...
The Doom Clock!!
On the Control Level, along with a basic map of the Spire (because why not?) and the levers to several drainage methods and bridge controls, is a counter.
Should this so-called Doom Counter hit ten, the fort will collapse into the chasm and the cavern beneath. It roughly takes about a year-and-a-half for it to fill fully.
I suppose you must be wondering. "ThatAussieGuy, you evil, evil, man; How can I avert this fort's destruction?" The answer is simple. Sacrifice one of the fort's dwarves.
To reset The Doom Clock, simply send one of your dwarves (be it nobleman, craftsdwarf, or one of those damn fisherdwarves that keep turning up) out onto the Bridge of Death and watch them plummet. The Doom Clock will return to 1 and the fort can continue on in peace.
For those cunningly thinking "Surely the clock could be stopped....", well, you'd be wrong. For starters, I hid it. You won't see it on the map, you won't find it by looking. It is there, somewhere, and ticking away towards the fort's doom constantly without mercy.
(And for those thinking of just anchoring it the wall with floors or something, give me a little creative licensing here... >.>)
I'll nominate Wirejade if it hasn't been nominated already. If it has, sorry, didn't see it.

My Roll to Die/Revive/Dwarf/Derail game was Dwarf Fortress based back during the Dwarf period of its lifetime.+1
Pretty much the entire thing is the most jumbled pile of chaos you can have. Think about it; how does a simple red vs. green fight turn into a war amongst gods, dragons and space combat, only to have the world rebuilt because a thread necromancer beleives the devil wasn't beaten with a fiddle, but at checkers. Then more chaos ensues as we go down the dwarf/derail train where we have people mimicking a DF scenario while on the other side of the world, a dragon becomes a prophet of the world creator, a wizard attempts to become master of time and space by bashing his skull on a desk for months, and a war between humans ignites. And what are the dwarves doing? Just as dwarves do: the most dwarfiest ideas! Artifacts, magical beard powers, crundle tamers and more, only to have it all crash down on them in a single turn, where the halls are destroyed utterly and the champion of the dwarves in vampire armor fights a magma serpent, that manages to break free from the mantle with its spawn... With the fortress collapsing on top of them. Presently, Mastacheese, the one who started this nonsensical, chaotic, !!FUN!! RtD, is making a map for it (but keeps putting it off for some reason, when we all know this would continue the insanity) and make it a civ based idea. So far, it appears elves, lamias, constructs, hatvians (sentient beings that are pretty much living hats), wizards, dwarves and humans seem to be confirmed as nations. The thread is unfortunatley locked at this point in time due to the rediculous amount of derails that popped up in it. Poor mastacheese had to make a derail thread specifically for that.
I think Xantalos has a special thread that says every turn and the chaos, but I unfortunatley, do not have a link. The main Roll to Die/Revive/Dwarf/Derail thread SHOULD still be in Mastacheese's name. (I know I'm supposed to include a link, but I'm horrible at giving fancy names to them for clarity's sake...)
It would seem that every derail thread has a link to mastahcheese, including how we're derailing this one. I don't even have any words for it.
It would seem that every derail thread has a link to mastahcheese, including how we're derailing this one. I don't even have any words for it.
I do: Mastahcheese the one behind all the derails, all towards the success of his/her masterplan.
On that revelation, what's Steelhold about? (Blatantly obvious attempt to bring thread on track.)

You realise that this in itself is a derail?
...
On that revelation, what's Steelhold about? (Blatantly obvious attempt to bring thread on track.)
Steelhold is the idea that Jackal (I think that's who it was) came up with where all the migrants except a few, are prisoners, and they all live in this giant prison fortress, and the bedrooms were jail cells... Or so that was what it was planned to be. When it hit my turn, and since I was a prisoner in my dwarfed self, I played that a revolt happened and the prisoners gained the power. This led to a downward spiral of beatings and other problems with the other dwarves, and come the end of my turn, I was arrested, and later sent out to die on a battlefield. It would seem that every derail thread has a link to mastahcheese, including how we're derailing this one. I don't even have any words for it.

'Vampire problem' is one way of putting it. The most recent overseer turned the entire fortress into vampires, including the king and queen. Other notable activity has been the queen arriving, digging into the circus, some form of interdimensional portal and the annihilation of the military. What on earth HAVE you been doing while I was away!?!?!

I'm going to nominate Steelhold.
Steelhold, found here (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=132097.msg4690146#msg4690146) and here (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=134238.0), is a twice-born succession fortress that, at first, looks like just another penal colony. However, there is so much more going on behind the scenes. A demon cultist, a dwarf with an ancient artifact, the daughter of a mad scientist, the son of a deranged baron, a brilliant and crafty engineer, and a ruthless gang leader: all play a delicate game of politics, as the fate of the fortress and the world hangs in the balance. None know the full plans of their competitors, and their alliances are temporary and of convenience.
In a phrase: "Welcome to Steelhold, good luck keeping your sanity, let alone your immortal soul."

Err..opps. My last post didn't count as a "brief summary", did it? :-\
Let me try again:
Allow me to show you the finest in Dwarven Ingenuity. Here we have the finest amenities and utilities, all for a small price.
A sacrifice of a dwarf once or twice a year. Or else the fortress will dissolve beneath your feet.
So I notice from the thread title that spearbreakers is finished now. We should move it or something.
+1 to Screw the next player over. It essentially sums up DF- right when you think nothing can go wrong...It's a neat idea, but it only lasted ~10 pages.
Size doesn't measure how good it is. Look at Mastacheese's Roll to Dwarf. 80-95% of it is derails but the actual content is really well done. Who takes a basic game and then blows it so out of proportion that the world explodes on the next day? That section alone deserves to be immortalized. (Did we already nominate that? I'm sure we did)+1 to Screw the next player over. It essentially sums up DF- right when you think nothing can go wrong...It's a neat idea, but it only lasted ~10 pages.

Uh, what? We started out as a simple stick figure in some sort of a top-down parody of oldschool dungeon crawlers. Now we're in a graphic sideview sprawling open-ended RPG kind of thing with characters, deep story, sociopaths and murder, occasional flash animations and danceoffs. How is this even remotely consistent?
+1 to Necrothreat II. Let the 100+ pages of greatness be recorded into the hall of fame.
I'm pretty sure Necrothreat II will be inducted, I just want to say that when it is, move it to finished; Sprin the Destroyer took his turn and I don't even know what happened...
+1 to Wirejade. I think it makes a total of five votes for thisunreasonablyFUN fortress
I'm not entirely sure why The Warrens of Oric the Awesome (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=121809.0) haven't been nominated yet, but I aim to fix that.

EDIT: Also, have a nomination.
This (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=121621.0) is Moltenchannels, the successor to Ardentdikes. Featuring 2 in-game decades of absurdly large construction, suspiciously functional engineering madness, 'ornamental' mountains of corpses, multi-generational dwarfing and general confusion. The game is cracking under the strain of supporting the awesome that is this fort, which explains the frequent bugs. Basically, everything you'd expect from a game which mandates a device to cleanse the fort with magma in its initial rules.

Also nominating Roll to Die/Dwarf/Derail (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=127328.msg4324099#msg4324099), as I feel it is at just dorfy enough to receive at least a nomination.
Description: Beginning as a simple arena game, it quickly devolved into utter chaos when several players became gods through various means, culminating in the destruction of the world. It then passed onto the next stage, where the four players who became gods teamed up together to create a planet and species, some gods even fighting themselves. Their infighting was ended when the first god cursed the eldritch god with an inability to kill, entering slumber with the other gods to activate the curse. The game then progressed into it's third, and so far final phase, where players played various creatures, such as humans, dwarves and wizards of all kinds. The game is currently on hiatus, as it's creator is drawing a hex map of the world, to be used in the next phase.

+1 to Einsteinian Roulette
ditto to +1 Einsteinian Roulette
I coulda sworn i found it via the hall of legends… i guess i was wrong o.O
You're kidding, right? I think that this is probably the only game to have been granted its own subforum.
+1, anyway.
I don't think most ER players even knew it had been nominated or there'd be a swarm of votes already. I, for one, was one of the clueless people.

+1 for TWoOtA.
TWoOtA now has a new intro:The Warrens of Oric the Awesome is an illustrated 2D dungeon crawler suggestion game that got completely out of hand. Who are we? What's going on? Dear gods what is THAT? Should we have prevented that senseless death? Just how much of these walls can we loot?
Come join us for page after page of us theorizing on why we still don't know the answers to any of these.
If you don't like this intro, visit the thread and see the other contenders! Make your vote!
I'd like to nominate Roomcarnage, if it hasn't been nominated already. Unique starting location, and awesome way of dealing with the undead.

Armok's Beard! This guys literally been forced underground, besieged by the undead and husks. In the face of this threat, he swears revenge upon the glacier known as the 'Ice of Ghosts' and has... well, the specifics wouldn't be any fun, so suffice to say Magma and Ice react in very interesting ways. The story is told through the 'extensive use of .gifs' used to capture the dynamic nature of the game.
+1 to Roomcarnage, use the above paragraph as the Intro. since none were provided.
I don't know if it's fair for me to nominate this thread since i have recently taken interest in it to the point of participation, but i believe dwarf fortress from scratch deserves a look.
Basically some modder (halfling) decided to delete the entire raws folder from the game, put whatever the game needed to physically run into place, then posted it on google for any modder to tamper with and tweak. the only real guidline is "it's scifi themed." After finally learning how to read the raws, i have realized it is a mass of abominations and mad scientists nightmares wandering around a deserted wasteland of a planet, sustained only by carnage.... on the rare chance you won't meet imperialistic alien civiliations, or Insectoid overlords, you will get to enjoy the local wildlife.... or they will enjoy you... eating you that is
Due to all them plusses, there needs to be a better introduction for the Hall of Legends.+1 to TWoOtA
...And probably a summarized form of it .__. It doesn't feel well to let a newcomer read that in its current state (the latter parts are a "bit" of a mess)
The site for Nist Akath appears to have disappeared. Is there a PDF or mirror available? This is legitimately saddening. Nist Akath is perhaps the only DF story I've read that I wish was longer. Until further notice, I suppose the link should just go to the thread on the forums.
+ 1 to The Hall of Legends. It definitely deserves a place here.
I don't know if it's fair for me to nominate this thread since i have recently taken interest in it to the point of participation, but i believe dwarf fortress from scratch deserves a look.Halfling started the first one, for 34.x, with a fantasy theme. The second (current one) has nothing to do with Halfling anymore, and has 2 forks, one of which is sci-fi while the other is a continuation of the content from the 34.x version. The sci-fi one is currently much more active, though it may use some vanilla raws.

+ 1 to The Hall of Legends. It definitely deserves a place here.I'd say -1. What's the point? It's not as if listing the Hall of Legends on the Hall of Legends would help people find it.

I see your point.
But, it's also doing no harm being there, and is also vaguely amusing.
So I choose vague amusement, dammit.
a stupefyingly large variety of dragons
I saw a few of them, though I have no idea which version I have.a stupefyingly large variety of dragons
You know, I never had the chance to check, did they actually show up?
For clarification: were you saying that the entry for TWoOtA should have a better introduction/summarized form, or were you saying the Hall of Legends itself needs a better introduction/summarized form? The entry :)
Sorry all, but I have to nominate Demongate.
Demongate: (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=137030.0) The spritiual successor to Steelhold, which expands upon the world as created in Steelhold. Join the Olympians, the Beast Hunters, escaped demonic spirits, and the knights of St. Zane as they struggle to stay alive in a world filled with myth and intruige, with the ever-present (but never realized) threat of invasion by the fabled bloodkin hanging over their heads every minute.
I'm sure someone else can write a better description, but that's the one I'll put out there.
Isn't Demongate covered in the Steelhold saga links, though? I suppose it's worthy of being a standalone story at this point, though. The "Steelhold" link leads to CubeJackal's original thread. The "continuing saga" link leads to "The Insidious Sons of Steelhold." If you ask me, it would be better and more accurate to simply label both threads as "Part 1" and "Part 2."
Forgive me if I breech protocol, but I would like to nominate Brosef Stalin's "The Increasingly Tragic Tale of Dumplin."
I have shed tears over her fate, watched with increasing trepidation over her fate, and though I know there can be only one outcome, I dread the inevitability of her demise. This is a damn good story.

Has anyone nominated The Littlest Cheesemaker yet? Both are deserving, though I'd give TLCM some more time to progress.

Cloudsprite probably deserves consideration as well.
The Eternal Halls, Reclaim of Battlefailed, Towersoared, Choose Your Own DF, Flamebanner, Blockedlance, Migrursut, Geshud Osod, and Brightwater all haven't had any posts within the past year or appear to have been abandoned, looking at their last posts. They should probably be moved into the Finished/Abandoned category so people don't get disappointed when they click on an "Active" one just to find something that hasn't had posts for years.
I didn't look into any of the categories past the first post but there are probably some not-really-active "active" ones there too.

For reference, Geshud Osod is not dead. I'm still working on it but haven't been posting due to real-life time constraints. The fortress is progressing but, I'll be honest, I shot myself in the foot when I chose a whole embark map. :-[ I hope to be posting again here in a few weeks and should be able to finish it up in a year or so, given current time restrictions. (Keep in mind that since I started it I have had 3 kids, graduated twice, and gotten a job, and a house. Be patient, I will finish it.)
+1 roomcarnage, because Zombies, Glaciers, Magma and Dwarf fortress variety !science! make one hell of a combination.
-1 the Hall of Legends.
+1 Roomcarnage. Engraved in GIFS is a picture of readers and The Nothing. The Nothing is blocking the magma weapon pipes. The engine is breaking. The readers are in the fetal position. This refers to a hole in the universe opening up in the fortress Roomcarnage, chapter 30-something.

Now that you mention it, though, I would like to nominate Dwarf Fortress From Scratch, it churned up some pretty creative and awesome stuff. Armored land squid, petrifying-gaze insects, dirigible antelope, weaponized alchemic incense, mutant trolls, and a stupefyingly large variety of dragons, just to name a few.

Demongate: Steelhold 2. The last big succession fort of 34.11 on Bay12, featuring all the community generated lore of Steelhold with at least twice the competence. Join the dwarves working for or against a drunken illuminati-esque society known as the Evening Prayer Group as they set out to defeat; monsters that apparently all died out in worldgen, substance abuse issues, a mysterious hellfortfull of zombiesthat most certainly does not exist, pointless interpersonal dramatics and, most dangerous of all, the thread's unsatiable lust for Overseer bloodshed.
I vote for demongate it's not there right now but it's an awesome story. You should definitely read it.

Oh, I'm not really sure of how the voting works but okay.Post a +1 for x. You aren't allowed to do that or nominate if you are the author/op of x.
+1 Doomforests. Soap ex machina!Dorven soap can't be destroyed by angry wereantelopes, trolls, or a supervampire!
Of course not. Soap is just an expensve building material is all.Yeah, but the previous overseer's schizophrenia and a very very unfortunate chain of events made that soap was more accsessible and safer to get than basalt. And the whole f*cking mountain is made of basalt.
I think we can all agree that S.O.A.P. is the true hero of Doomforests. I mean, considering NO ONE has tried to mess with it, EVER, it really seems like evrything that's not 100% dwarf is afraid of it.Amen for that!
Soooo, Doomforests is still up for voting right? Because if so, +1 for Doomforests. The greatest beacon to cults, werebeasts, and (oh yes) SOAP the world over. ;DWait, you have a turn?
+1 to adventures on monster island.seconded
I forgot my game was even in that list.
In the Forum Games Section, my game of Roll to Die/Revive/so on and such needs to be updated.
My hard drive crashed, and I lost all the game files, so it's officially over now.

Eeeeeeeehehehehe!!!!
Could you change the description, though? It's not very informative as-is.
"A Dwarf Fortress tale in the style of MSPA, written by evictedSaint, about a young dwarf girl who has recently come of age and is ready to pursue her life-long goal of becoming "The Greatest Cheesemaker Ever"...even if it seems like the whole world is against her. Join Misty as she ventures off to the mighty fortress of ShieldDawn to ply her trade. Surely there must be a place for Misty in such a grand hall; after all, who doesn't love having a new cheesemaker migrate to their fortress?
It's an interactive story, where the author draws the story and viewers make suggestions for what comes next. Be sure to check out the fanart!"
You're a mean person, Mr. Stalin.
Also, if I can vote then I gotta vote for an oldie, and a... goodie(for certain values of 'goodie' I suppose):
Vanod +1

Voting for Adventures on Monster Island.
Adventures on Monster Island has my vote.
It should be noted that Adventures on Monster Island is no longer finished/abandoned, too.
I will also vote for adventures on monster island
+1 adventures on monster island
I vote for Adventures on Monster Island!
Adventures on Monster Island is fantastic!
Adventures on Monster Island. One of the greatest dwarf fortress stories, and a great story in general, topped off with awesome artwork. I'm surprised it isn't in the Hall of Legends where it should be.
Yeah, after finally deciding to read Adventure on Monster Island, I realize that it is Conan the Barbarian in Dwarf Fortress. I vote for it to be added to the Hall of Legends.
I vote for Monster Island too.
Is monster island not on here yet? I vote for that.
Also I put forth a nomination for the first "if bay12 forum was a mountain hall"
I'm not sure if it should be a forum game listing or story listing. Regardless that insanity deserves to be here.

Reginald Goblinstomper is already (and deservedly) a resident in the Hall of Legends. It's even in the Active section, which is mildly embarrassing given the length of hiatus but I shall spin it as never losing hope.

Speaking of Doomforests, it currently lacks any kind of description whatsoever. now we could argue over what to put there, but let's simply, for now, use what's found underneath the main title of the thread
''Which is turning out to be a collection of examples of how to not run a fortress.''
If you, random reader, think the syntax could be improved or tweaked in any fashion, do say so...
I see Skyscrapes made it in and that we need a blurb. I suggest:
Communal megaproject fort with a single goal: forsake the earth to create an entirely above ground testament to dwarven madness and ingenuity. Includes a pump stack spanning 247 z-levels bringing glory to the top of the sky.
The megadwarf is 59 tiles high, its pedestal is 32x32 tiles wide and 20 tiles high, it contains all dwarven facilities except fields and metallurgy. Megadwarf's hair and boots are obsidian, pants and gloves are copper, helmet, vest and axe are iron, axe-handle is native gold, body and the statue's pedestal are native silver, eyes are adamantine, lips are petrified wood.
Arrowrags, the Fort of a Megadwarf. (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=152114.0)

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=113638
Just wanted to say that the current summary of Doomforests doesn't do it as much justice as it could, so I wrote this:
Doomforests is a hilarious and tragic tale of Forgotten Beasts killing dwarves, Forgotten Beasts killing other Forgotten Beasts, soap worshipers, wars between occult sects, an inquisition, a rutile hat, and a friendly goblin who has seen more tragedies than any living dwarf. Doomforests is, and forever will be, a clusterfuck of ideologies, buildings, hallways, strip mines, hallways, offices, and hallways that will continue to grow until each and every dwarf in the fortress eventually dies. And sometimes, dies again. Abnormality is so commonplace that there may as well be no such thing.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not see OceanShoots in the list. If it is not, I would like to formally nominate this amazing (if apparently over-looked) bit of Dwarven Engineering; http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=101795.0This is indeed something that belongs in the dwarven ingenuity section. Right next to the mermaid-harvesting program, actually.
add necrothreat iii to this. it deserves it.Its a little early, but I'll second it
Thirded.Fourthed.
To be eligible for nomination, the nominator (that's you) merely needs to post a link to the nominee, as well as a brief summary. It is considered bad form to nominate your own threads. Nominees need not be from a specific part of the Bay12 forums, nor is their format or subject matter a consideration- it merely needs to be worthy of preservation. Nominees that are not local to the Bay12 forums should be marked as such. To avoid suspicion of favoritism, I shall neither nominate nor vote for any nominee, no matter how deserving. I reserve the right to trim/alter synopses as I see fit (mostly to maintain a reasonable length.)You all are doing it wrong.
Nominees will be added to a list of candidates, which will be maintained a post or two following this one. There, other forumites can view the candidate and determine whether it is worthy of inclusion in the Hall of Legends. Each candidate is ineligible to receive votes for its first month of candidacy

yeah well you're all nerds and rules are made to be broken 8):P
I think the bigger problem is that you haven't waited a month to vote.Bah.
Some.of the images in these threads are broken... Should some kind of effort be made to preserve them? There's not really much of a way to do this, unfortunately - at least not a way that wouldn't be exceedingly time-consuming.
Fifthed
Firsted :P
It's past a month, I believe?
Just noticed that 'Bacon Like A Pro' has made the nominees. Big +1 on that.+1
+1, becuase I forgot about thisFifthed

Bump.
I know it's pinned, but people who browse via New Replies need bumps no matter whether the thread is pinned or not.Bump.this topic was already pinned no need to bump it.
An aboveground farming-based fort which exports each and every ounce of food whenever a caravan stopped by, Breadbowl soon became menaced by goblins, titans, and worst of all, Hamsters.
+1 for Tholtig, that story makes me feel.
+1 Tholtig.
+1 Tholtig
Two bad links that I noticed, under Community Forts. Here's the correct links:
Pirates of the Fondled Waters (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=19237.0)
All Dwarves Are Bastards (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=26722.0)
Looks like some URL syntax changes, but the topic ID numbers were good. Links could use a good going through, making repairs as needed.
Nominating my own story which has been really well-received so far: "How parrots ruined my fortress: Shocking coordination edition" http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=155275.45
+1, though it'll probably get stolen by the keas.

+1 to bacon
+1 Bacon
How is Bacon like a Pro not already in the HoF?
+1 to bacon.
On a related note and with all the fuss about dwarf libraries and books lately, I'm nominating Dwarven Academy of Science: The New Knowledge Center (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=134754.msg4864003#msg4864003) for the Hall of Fame. A compendium of community research and science projects, with a bevy of creative and innovative research and findings that push the frontiers of dwarven science and technology. Recommended reading and a good reference point for any dwarven mad scientist.
I just wish it was more up to date, but it is still relevant.
Right. +1 Doomforests. It's really all about the writing the members do, especially as FPS problems have reared their ugly heads, the community has done a lot to fill in any gaps.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not see OceanShoots in the list. If it is not, I would like to formally nominate this amazing (if apparently over-looked) bit of Dwarven Engineering; http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=101795.0
I'm just gonna sidle in here and nominate Breadbowl: a Succession Farm (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=152568.0).QuoteAn aboveground farming-based fort which exports each and every ounce of food whenever a caravan stopped by, Breadbowl soon became menaced by goblins, titans, and worst of all, Giant Hamsters.
I'll second Breadbowl.
It should be Giant Hamsters, though.
Yeah, sure, Breadbowl +1
So Gemclod is gone for now. Anybody have an archive?
Edit
This'll have to do (https://web.archive.org/web/20150422012649/http://gemclod.goondorfs.net/)
Not sure if it's missing anything though.
The Gemclod link in the first post of this thread needs an update: http://gregshort.net/goondorfs/gemclod/index.html (http://gregshort.net/goondorfs/gemclod/index.html)
'Epic Adventure At The Dawn Of Time' should be moved to Finished/Abandoned.
A bit old by this point, but I've gone back and fixed all the image links for Journey of Deebus.
Fine.
Necrothreat III (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=118805.0): A land in which the forces of Ur and Armok once more ravage the land. So far, we have seen the undead Thread Zombies attack the last bastion of Forumites. Sprin, the evil doctor of the fort, has lost his beloved Jenny in a terrible accident - his thirst for blood knows no bounds. The man we thought would tear the fortress down brick by brick instead builds it up again, the tears of the Threadromancers his mortar. This is a fortress of fire, of blood and death. And, ultimately, of hope. For the stout Forumites are not accustomed to yielding to fate.

And so comes the passing of an era. Monk's Hall, 2011-2016. You will be missed. Still, I'd like to point out that Doomforests is a Succession Fort, not a Community Game :P.Obviously you've failed to notice the hamsters...
Glad and surprised that Breadbowl is up for nomination, though being one of its overseers it'd probably be in bad taste if I were to add my vote. All I can say is that it's a different sort of tale - one of daily life and struggles, rather than that of spiraling insanity and chaos (at least so far).
+1 Oceanshoots

That's why I decided to nominate before my turn came up. ;)
I'm TEMPTED to take on the torch, as I am on quite regularly, but I don't think I fully understand the formula... If you think the job is easy but just takes time, then I will step forward
I'm willing to volunteer. Already have some experience running the RTD hall.
