A forum game where you are tasked with defending a magic crystal that somehow is wanted destroyed by the attacking forces.
Before you start, you'll need some equipment.
You each have 100 points to spend on anything listed in the spreadsheet.
If you wonder why it's a bit empty, I'm working on it in real time. Don't panic.
Every third round will be a special round, and every eighth round will be a boss round.
-
PTW
-
Are the 100 points a per-person thing or for everyone to share?
-
Per person.
I don't think people would be happy with only two people having some form of ranged weapon.
-
I'll take a Sniper Rifle and a Crowbar, saving the remaining 5 points for a later round.
-
Weapons don't come with any ammo when bought besides a single magazine already loaded, so I'll use the remaining 5 for 8 sniper ammo.
You get points for contributing, so you don't ever have to worry about running out of points.

How can we contribute? I'd love to rack up some points. I want to go harpoon and a second melee weapon. I'm trying to figure out if I should take a second weapon right away, and settle for an ax, or if I should hold out.
-
Didn't know that ammunition was a thing. I think you need to add ammunition costs to the sheet.
Edit: Nevermind. I just needed to scroll to the right.
Also, if you want a second weapon, I might recommend a crowbar. It has a special effect that makes it do tons of damage to small enemies, so the crowbar will remain relevant even after you can afford a higher grade melee weapon.

Scratch that, gimme a butcher's knife and a med kit and say hello to your new doctor.
-
Where do I find the weapon costs?
-
Mouseover the cells on the spreadsheet.
-
I'll hop in with a sledgehammer and molotov and become the dedicated stuff smacker.
-
Am joining. Will decide what to spend points on soon.

You get points for dealing damage, healing, and other stuff beneficial to the team.
Anyone who's posted their loadouts has already been added.
-
I'll take a harpoon, an AP mine, and a coupla rocks. Time to hunt some whales.
-
Got it. Added.
-
I'll take an assault rifle, a carpenters hammer, and extra ammo.
-
I will get a sawn off shottie and 20 ammoes.
-
Added.
Since we now have over 5 people, this will begin shortly, as in whenever I can be bothered to set up wave 1.

Wave 1
Enemies left: 20
Crystal Health: 1000
Just outside the play area, some enemies come in from drop pods. You see roughly 20 of them come from the sky.
They appear to have their guns pointed towards the crystal and it's defenders.
You stand near the crystal in a circle formation.
-
Load da shottie. Unless it was already loaded.
-
Put the AP mine somewhere that will be in my line of harpooning so I can harpoon something and drag it onto the mine.
-
Brandish my sledgehammer and move to the bottom of the northern staircase.
-
Load da shottie. Unless it was already loaded.
All weapons come loaded.
-
Crouch behind something and wait for somebody other than myself to get shot.
-
Tactics:
I'll stay at my current elevated position and use the Sniper Rifle to take aim at the biggest enemy that I can target accurately.
The sniper rifle is to be fired at enemies until the clip runs out, or something noteworthy happens.
The crowbar is to be used if an enemy gets within melee range of either myself or the crystal.
If the enemies are able to actually shoot me, I'll duck behind cover and re-assess the situation.
-
At least half of the players have replied, enough for me to think about an update.

Wave 1
Enemies left: 17 (-3)
Crystal Health: 1000
Put the AP mine somewhere that will be in my line of harpooning so I can harpoon something and drag it onto the mine.
You put your mine on the eastern staircase. An enemy comes within pooning range, and you skewer it on your harpoon, killing it. For some odd reason, the harpoon phases through dead enemies.
Brandish my sledgehammer and move to the bottom of the northern staircase.
You move to the bottom of the northern staircase with your sledgehammer out.
Crouch behind something and wait for somebody other than myself to get shot.
You crouch behind a stone fence. Since someone got killed via pooning, I'll count that as the "stop waiting until someone gets shot" part. Unfortunately, no friendlies are injured, but you rush in and slit an enemy's throatneck.
Tactics:
I'll stay at my current elevated position and use the Sniper Rifle to take aim at the biggest enemy that I can target accurately.

Until wave 3, all enemies will be generic. Special enemy variations may exist every know and then, but it's mostly just regular enemies on regular rounds.
Anyways, you snipe an enemy through the skull, netting you a kill.
One of them tries to shoot you, but they have garbage aim and an equally garbage weapon.
-
sit on the crystal and fire at enemies.
-
Where is the updated map?
-
Keep stabbin the whales.
-
By "generic enemy", do you mean human, or what? What kinds of weapons do they have?
-
Get behind some cover and shoot the enemies from there.
-
Move up to the enemies and start bringing the hurt. (With the sledgehammer.)

Wave 1
Enemies left: 12 (-5)
Crystal Health: 1000

Where is the updated map?
It's in this post.
Also, since your last post said to "just shoot people until one of them tries to hit you", you take a shot at an enemy, ripping through their armor.
By "generic enemy", do you mean human, or what? What kinds of weapons do they have?
They're generic humans with generic guns with generic armor.
Get behind some cover and shoot the enemies from there.
You run up to cover, and fire 3 rounds at one enemy before firing another 3 at another enemy, getting you 2 kills.
Move up to the enemies and start bringing the hurt. (With the sledgehammer.)
You crush the skull of one enemy, and throw another enemy into space with another sledgehammer swing.
edit: shit misclicked post
-
I think you accidentally posted the old map again. It doesn't include player or enemy locations or anything different. At least as far as I could see.
-
Keep shooting the enemies from cover.
-
I will continue with the previous plan, boringly shooting an enemy with the sniper rifle.
-

Unless something in the battlefield changes, like an object appearing, then I'll change it.
-
Continue to stab.
-
How are we supposed to know where the enemies are located on the map? This would be important for tactical positioning and aiming molotovs and stuff.
-
Can I join, in between waves or something?
-
I move up and start hammering away at the nearest baddies.
-
I have not yet stabbed a sufficient number of whales. This will be rectified immediately.
-
Is this game still a thing?
Despite my perceived snarkiness, I am actually still interested in this game.
-
I blame life issues.
Feel free to rehost it if you like, though.
-
Well... maybe if enough players were really into this thing. I did sort of think of a number of tweaks that could be made to this thing.
-
Like what?
Also, I'll give you spreadsheet change permissions in case you want to host it for me, if I can find some way to add editors.
-
In the event that I want to take control of a game like this, I would probably scrap the spreadsheet altogether and make my own system. I'd probably let players use their points to research new things though I am a bit foggy on precisely how it would work.
I would also be more secretive about what hazards the players would be up against. One of the biggest mistakes a GM can make in my opinion, is giving players information when it would be more fun for them if it came as a surprise, or if they can figure it out for themselves with clever observations.
I would also need to mark where every enemy is located on a map. I think I already mentioned why I would want this to be a thing.
-
Got it.
-
Hmm.
