No, I'm pretty sure that's sarcasm. I'm not sure I'd exactly say Toady buys into the elf-hate, but he's definitely aware of it.

Hey, its an acceptable form of punishment for committing murder/eating your victim. And I'm sure we'll end up having to deal with that.

Romping through my Shakespeare book again and just realized that in "As You Like It", since only men were allowed to act in Shakespeare's era, the character Rosalind would be a man playing drag as a woman who is pretending to be a man. I'd like to see that.
Ah, Twelfth Night's fun for the same reason. It's the beautiful, lasting joke of Shakespeare's legacy, that it's portrayed in popular culture as stuffy, high-class drama when it was closer in fact to Monty Python.

Apparently some of the plays also have a lot of lewd double-entendres that are lost on modern readers because the slang has changed in the intervening centuries.

I fortunately, I had an English teacher who tried to explain some the double-entendres. Some of that stuff is pretty dirty. Even the high school-ubiquitous(can't believe I spelled that right on the first try) Romeo & Juliet has some stuff that, when you understand it, is something that should not be exposed to children.

And at other times it is not lost to us. "He ploughed her and she cropped."

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

So, the whole new flag for NZ thing is in full swing. The government started taking submissions from the general public a while back. Most of them are jokes and/or jabs at how basically no-one is taking it seriously.
I hope one of the joke flags wins.

Have you ever seen the Simpsons episode with the "learn to fart" flag?

EDIT:
Or the Community episode with the anus flag?

I'm going to hell for laughing at this so hard.
The "Bert wants to know who broke his swastika" one is the best IMO.

The ones where "Telly and Elmo unexpectedly find the brown note" and "Ernie urges congress to lower the age of consent" are pretty funny too
