DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Building Up Stairs?
« on: December 08, 2022, 12:44:59 am »
The new stair mechanics are not fit for purpose. In short, they are total shit.

I have run into several issues trying to build perfectly logical stairs and the game just not allowing it because one end or another would have to intersect a solid, blocked, or otherwise "unreachable" area. For example, building down to a floor, you cannot end with an up/down stair so that you can continue digging from there. Same with building up to a roof.

It has become very clear to me that someone doesn't play their game enough.

No. gamelog.txt contains only messages marking when worldgen starts, when a fortress is started, and when a save is loaded. There are no messages for in-game events at all.

3
gamelog.txt no longer seems to contain anything useful. Soundsense is probably dead forever baring DFHackery

Premium seems a little more like a downgrade every time I try to do anything.

Other Games / Re: Terraria - 1.3 released. Big Patch!

I was digging around in Terraria's config file this morning, and noticed these options:
Code: [Select]
  "UseRazerRGB": true,
  "UseCorsairRGB": true,
  "UseLogitechRGB": true,

I tried setting just the Corsair one to false, but the game reset it to true again. However, if I set all three to false it works. Thanks!

I started playing master mode, but now I think I'll go back to expert. You don't get anything new, and expert was already punishing enough. The extra item slot is tempting, but eh, not worth the pain.

The new Razer Chroma support sucks

There is no option in game to turn it off, and worse, it activates even if you have no Razer products. So, when playing Terraria my Corsair keyboard forcibly changes its lighting and there is no way to turn it off. People say you can disable it with Razer Synapse, but I don't have anything Razer in my system so...

I pick one of three paths:

1) Build near to a friendly outpost, and run there when attacked until you have walls and top-tier gear.
2) Do research and other prep in a city and then slowly move out.
3) Get captured by a slaver faction, then keep trying to "escape" over and over and over until your men are all tough as nails, sneaky, lockpicking, badasses. *Then* go build.

Nowadays I prefer option 3. Having toughness in the 60s or higher makes everything way easier. Option 2 is just option 1, but less adventurous.

I don't know why, but sometimes I really, really hate that there is a main quest.

I'm going to go the opposite way and say I think it is critical to the game becoming all it can be. Having some kind of obvious goal for new players to work twords will help massively with onboarding. That said, I'm not against some kind of option to disable it when starting a new save.

A bit of hold duration will be nice, since sometimes I could get into situations where a single AI relentlessly clobbers my shield over and over with no gap large enough for me to try a swing of my own.

BTW: The Steward skill (I think it was steward) has line about "being quartermaster for parties fed with a variety of food" or some such. I always set my own character to the quartermaster role in the clan window, and get regular skill ups in Steward.

In Warband I always favored heavy sabers. Long, but not too long, fast enough, decent hack and slash attacks, etc. I'm still looking for my new favorite weapon in Bannerlord.

RE Tactics: You seem to gain XP every time an order is issued, whether you do it or "your sergeants" (press f6) do. Since the troop AI changes orders fairly often, your tactics skill may go up faster if you use f6 every time you would normally order a charge? Not to mention that the troop AI actually does a good job of managing archers and infantry together and stuff like that.

What are everybody's favorite money making methods?

I have been shipping cheap wood around (combined with making charcoal at a 3->2 ratio depending on prices) and I built a wood shop in a city that had particularly low wood prices (but it isn't paying out much at all).

There is a "no underwear" mod on the Nexus right now. All my characters wear sensible clothing, so I didn't install it.

Where are you finding mods?

On Nexus of course. They have mods for everything.

My only objection is that Stamina does not regenerate while traveling. You literally have to sit inside a town and let time pass to regain smithing stamina.

If smithing stamina regenerated while traveling I would be fine with it.
