Bahaha, I love drawing forgotten beasts!
My attempt at Aril:
Not exactly skinless, but it evokes the description, I think.
Nice!
One of the great things of DF is how the ascii art and descriptions allow you to use your own imagination for what things look like.
This is my version of Aril:
(http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/6162/arilflyingserpent.jpg) (http://img228.imageshack.us/i/arilflyingserpent.jpg/)
(Quick drawing, didn't really clean up the scanned picture..)
Well you did say to post our terrible ms paint scribblings so here ya go!
(http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/7334/29197468.png) (http://img130.imageshack.us/i/29197468.png/)
"MS Paint chicken scratchings"? I'm in!
Just so folks don't get confused, a kite is a bird of prey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kite_(bird)). ;)
Thanks, I did not know that. I am however going to pretend I did not read that, and upload my picture anyhow:
(http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/1453/kiteb.jpg) (http://img842.imageshack.us/i/kiteb.jpg/)
I didn't get the fat, bulging trunk part in because, well, that wouldn't work very well on a kite.

I just realized how much I suck without a tablet :'(
(It's the first one)

OK, here's the forgotten beast for the new round of the competition:
Shot at 2011-02-13
Just google Ankylosaur if you need inspiration. Too bad these guys went extinct..
I'll judge submissions five days after this post, (I guess it's usefull to know the deadline)
Because I'm way too lazy to dig out my scanner, behold some epic paint power:
Why is he in a desert? Damned if I know.
My version of Sethal:

My attempt at Sethal.
It should be noted that I've never drawn anything before. Ever. I hope that this fact compensates for the large amounts of suck.
P.S. I'm throwing this into my D&D campaign.
Heres my Shedim. I was trying to work out how to make something look bloated and have an exoskeleton at the same time...
Here's my scribble (check out my colouring in!):
Here's my go at it!
Love the artwork in here, though I think Grizzlebridge's Shedim is truly terrifying enough to give even the most hardened Dwarf nightmares.
Anyways, here's my take on Shedim.
Sorry for the delay, and while I have no problem conceding to DarkerDark's masterful rendition of horror, I will not concede the right to choose the next Beast!
BEHOLD ÄB!
A towering, beakless woodpecker. It has a square shell and appears to be emaciated. Its cobalt feathers are patchy. Beware its webs! Äb was associated with treachery and caverns.
This should prove interesting, I hope :3

ÄB

THE HORROR!
:P
Wow, I really don't have time to be doing this, but...

I had absolutely no idea it would look like this when I started.
Epic image means epic meme.
:D
I was thinking of creating a similar topic. The only difference would be that the first post would have descriptions of forgotten beasts and the winning picture for each. Now I of course won't create it because it will be ignored. Well I might as well try to participate. I like drawing by hand though my skills are rather suckish.
I had to rewire the printer/scanner... Never done or seen anyone do it before. Took me a while.
I didn't think it would show stuff on the other side of the page so I took a used paper.
I couldn't draw the feet well so I didn't draw them at all.
I figured the square shell should have a use too and that it needs a harder head to somehow still peck wood.
I missing the patchy feathers and that emaciation or whatever.
I tried drawing AB several times, but it's kind of hard to make a woodpecker look like a woodpecker if it doesn't have a beak. Heh.
So, here's Ceti instead.
Yeah, I used this as a model, and that leg just really didn't make it. Also, the trees look like mushrooms and and... ok I drew it in 3 minutes while I was at work, and had to be careful none of my coworkers saw a huge T-Rex on my screen. ;)
In a hope to get people to post more drawings, good or awful, I will post my drawing that i spent about 40 minutes on, I really like the shading on the upper-lip of the dwarf on the right. (he's the only special one in the fort, I think ceti must have knocked his marbles about.)
NOW POST MORE DRAWINGS!
Whoo, first! ;)

Ceti the Ungodly Terror
I vote GrizzleBridges. He looks like it was drawn in the olden times somewhere on a wall in a castle, or woven in tapestry.
I have a Forgotten Beast here that I like.
Iklist Echoeddepth the Confusing Boat of Beaching was a forgotten beast. It was the only one of its kind. A towering python with external ribs. It has a pair of knobby antennae and it squirms and fidgets. Its scarlet scales are large and close-set. Beware its deadly spittle! Iklist was associated with water, theft and caverns.
Okay, actually I changed my mind on the titan and picked this horror:
Sitsu Cloakhollow
because it just entered my fort and started eating children
Also, heres an adorable Ceti (I had the urge to draw it after you mentioned the idea):
OK, here's my Sitsu. I tried to give it scales but couldn't get it right, so decided to go without.
*invades the arting*
(http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj148/lionsilverwolf/Sitsu.png)
Alright, finished. I never did get the wings to look like I had imagined them, but they're kind of close. (Ignore that stuff on the top, that was just for practice. My entry is the one on the bottom. Oh, and it's sideways. But you can probably tell on your own.)
Look. Look at what this competition has spawned. Look into it's eyes. Each moment it lives is like a thousand years of agony. Select the pistol, and then select the rough draft.
LOOK AT IT.
It wants to die. Select the pistol, and then select the rough draft.
Nice drawings!
This is the final scene of slaying, the name makes me think the dwarf has been spending a little bit too much time with his weapon...
Death by salt trap would have been better though...
Though it looks like the Dwarf is concerned for his fellow miner, in the world of Dwarf Fortress he's probably saying "Get out o' the way, ye donkey! Can't ye see that -bronze pick- needs returnin' to the stockpile?!"
Beautiful darkerdark, but you forgot the colors...
Hello all. I'm new to the forum. been browsing it for a while, but I had to get in on the beast-drawing awesomeness.
Here's the abominable Sitsu in it's last bloated moments.
to Wirevix: I really like your wings, I was thinking mine would be unique but i see you had the same idea, looks great.

Reminds me of (http://www.fakecard.com/pokedex/pokemon/images/big/weepinbell.gif)
Also yay for finally having a reason to post so this shows up in my updated threads list 8)
I guess i only have a slightly higher-res version.
looks like a accidentally overwrote my highest-res one while resizing, blerg.
As for the pokemon similarity: I'm sure Sitsu tries his best to be terrifying, but there's only so much you can do when you're bright pink. He probably got beat up a lot at FB school for it.
... yeah, I drew this in five minutes. and I'm better at drwaing people...
Aramco resized picture a couple of posts down
and I just realized that the picture is huge. I should've shrunkened it.
Here, I shrank it for you.

I'm pretty sure we only voted at all because the previous winner was gone. I'm finished though--
(Don't question that dwarf's logic-- It is associated with suicide, so what else would the dwarf do?)
(Also don't question the short time-- no matter how much time I took, it would look exactly like this.)

Yeah, my tablet isn't being very responsive and i am much too lazy to make it look better or color it. T'was fun though.
I'd like to change my entry--
My new one will be this.

My most sincere apologies.
To make up for my lapse, I present this:
I neither intend, nor desire to win. Also, I forget the tails, dang it.
My rendition of Ome. (forgive the image quality, my scanner doesn't work so I had to photograph it.) "Lizard" wasn't very descriptive, so I went with the Komodo dragon as a model.
Turns out I'm way too lazy to properly colour things.
Here's my Ome Sweet Ome:

Mind if I join in guys?
What's with the poll? Those aren't birds...
Anyways. Here is my picture. I think it actually came out un-horrible. Yay!
The scales were a pain to draw. But at least they are close set and small.
Now that the original picture is here... Should I try to color it or maybe add a cavern-ish background?
Is it too late to submit this?

My turn! (believe me I'm better at drawing people... still proud of it nonetheless.)
Good Stuff being posted. That last one is pretty disturbing Terrahex. I tried to find something crazy to do with my eyes, but couldn't come up with anything. Kudos.

By the way, I love the eyes and tails on DeKaFu's Ome.

I finished the first one, and I'll do the bonus tomorrow. (And the text I wrote got messed up, so I had to 'shop it back in.)

I'm gonna start out with the bonus because I'm a rebel. *puts on sunglasses*

I tried to re-draw him in photoshop but my tablet is being a bastard right now. I might try to redraw him if I can get this thing working again.
P.S. Sea turtles are definitely the best sea creatures.
Well here's my Zanor.

There! That should be an easy one to beat! Go to it!
Atu seems more popular so far so I suppose I'll switch them if nobody minds. To be honest I liked him better anyway. :P
Yay! I tried to draw Zanor, but somewhere between the scanner and coloring I started hating him. so...many....legs. I've been drawing Atu instead.
I had a lot of fun drawing him. Tried some new stuff.

Nekol Burydrinks the Cavernous Mine Sketch:
Excellent drool is excellent.
Never tried drawing glass before, so I picked up some useful techniques doing this.
This doesn't seem like glass almost at all. IMO you should make it less smooth and more like it's made from bits of glass.
I sketched something up too. I suck at drawing...(http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/1115/nekol.png)
It shows an adventurer carrying the dead corpse in his backpack. Nekol lost its feet, left hand and right lower arm.
Honestly? Rhesus' looks a lot more glassy than ottott's..
More bulbous glass like this
(http://antiquehelper.rfcsystems.com/Full/346/68346.jpg)
Well mine definitely doesn't look like glass. more like....rock or something. I suppose i could argue it's porcelain or fine china :D But by Armok, it's got drool.
I tried to think of a humorous caption involving Urist Mcglassmaker, I've got nothing.
And I totally thought Rhesus' looked like blown glass.
Here's my lame attempt at Nekol Burydrinks the Cavernous Mine:

Right, it is finished. I just have to wait for my I-Pod to have less than zero charge (I hardly ever use it), so I can taek piture.
Keep in mind that I can't hold a pencil (Or crayon, in this case) steady (Or straight, for that matter) with my off-hand, so that's why the lines are kind of wiggly.
Hang on, I didn't draw any clothes on it, should it be in a link?
Here's one I did, with him dining finely on dwarf meat outside a cavern fortress wall. I got lazy with the colors D:
And I might have drawn a badger by mistake. Damn badgers
(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b69/cokolat/utesh.jpg)
On second thought, I could add some sound effects estimating that it's actually a skunk with shell and poisonous sting. Say, bumping sound of boulders hitting it's shell, dwarves losing their breath and smacking their mouths silently because of it's smell and whizz of sting attack...
I might try that eventually. Would be good training for a wannabe sound designer :D
EDIT: SURPRISE SUBMISSION!!!
I basically just traced a skunk skeleton and slapped some shit on top of it. Not very creative, I know. Also forgot about the whole bloated body thingy...

What are those large mandibles anyway? I tried googling "mandible" and apparently it's just a jaw.
im confus
It probably means the mandibles of an insect.
Like that.
A rather late Utesh. I had this done the 2 days after it started, just didn't get off my butt to upload it. Raped by the scanner.

Right, saw this and decided to try to try to sketch something. But hell, I didn't even follow most of the things in the description. I feel like posting it anyway because I like how it turned out. Just a rough sketch, 10-20-ish minutes.

Fode! I have two scanners, but one of them isn't supported past XP SP1 and the other is beige. Shows how often I need to scan things.

as a first post gift, I sketched Fode Spurthollow:

I really like your picture and I think the colour adds to it (the blood for instance). Sometimes lines can work on their own however, so it depends, I guess. My money's on the axedwarf...
I did try colouring mine, but it seems to work fine without:

Woha ... I'll have nightmares from that :o
@PCPaste: is that dwarf wearing an adamantine armor and battle axe?
Mine became too much of a DUNG beetle :-\
Yay!
As tempted as I was to pick "Efeye the gigantic skinless ass" (what could go wrong?), my choice is:

Thought I would have a go :) Behold, my amateur drawing skills!

(Sorry about the quality, I only have a rubbish camera.)
The shell is kinda weird, but its the best I can be bothered to do right now.
Here's my goofy attempt, as I am horrible at drawing. :D

I realize that is lava and not fire.
For some reason I thought of DOS immediately when I saw the description of this forgotten beast.

Aack! The dung beetle competition is already over! I'll upload it anyway, a quick sketch.

It seems that all the drawings I've made over the last couple of weeks involve mutilated corpses. Should I be worried?
my attempt!

Ok maybe not, a better attempt, though nothing like some of the pictures I've seen around here before:
I thought it came out well. Emancipated in the wings, yet still made of fire. With a shell that is very smoke-like. Made in about 30 mins via Gimp.

Freakin' flame bats, how do they work?
Hm.

I've just been asked to paint a mural for a baby's room, preferably something cute, with sheep
You realize that this is a golden opportunity, yes?
This is what happens when you have far too much free time:
Flamebat

Alright, I'll call it done.
I kind of thought of the bulbous shell as more of a layer of knobby rock covering parts of it's torso. That's my least favorite part of it right now, but I'm not sure how to improve it. It's hard to make things look emaciated when they're composed entirely of fire and have little i the way of shadows.
Here's my bat outta hell. Not quite impressive since I've grown tired of my current tablet, and I don't have any color pencils handy.
I'm having troubles with the flames too [new to tablet drawing].
Here is my try:

Totally awesome images here!
Can I join too? Here is my lame attempt to paint Irum flying in dark caverns.

I got more inspiration to paint another lame image 8)
Urist Mcsoldier has been grumbling about long boring patrol duty lately...

The idea with the head and the large eyes is great.
My submission is currently just scanning right nooooow. Post it in a few. Things to note, its engulfed in flames, rather then composed of flames. Making it look skinny + made out of fire = way too hard for my artistic abilities.
Edit: Voila, quick sketch of Irum Lobsterdied

Ehh... Fine. Here's my image. I think it came out slightly better than my average.

Oh man, that's awesome.
EDIT: Two things of note, on mine.
One-- I figured any Forgotten Beast without dust was no Forgotten Beast at all, so I gave him some.
Two-- Take note that there are two legs attached to each foot. That way it is eight-legged, but also a quadruped.
Siga, resized and cropped a bit.
I went with him having eight legs, but only walking on four of them at a time.
That's snow coming off of him, not deadly dust. I couldn't think of a better way to show that he was made of it.

Here's my beast of choice. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Not a submission, obviously, but I couldn't resist doing a quick scribble of my interpretation of Kul 'rhythmically undulating'...

It doesn't really show, but the extra shading and basic outline under the scales is supposed to represent the translucency of the clear scales.
Drawing animals just isn't fun. No matter how many scales you add.
Well, okay, in that case, I shall add an alternate option:

I did a Cuthabe pic - It's hard to do 'gaunt' when he's covered in feathers.
And his secretions are, eh, 'secreted' somewhere on his body under his plumage. Yeah, that's the ticket. I didn't just forget to draw them or anything like that. That'd be silly.
>_>
<_<
I take it that no one would mind if I made a submission.

A real quick image I made up. Didn't make it too detailed.
I fear I will be away from the internet until sunday night.
So I do not hold up any proceedings, I will go ahead and post my creature if I win. If I do not just ignore it.
Quazi was a forgotten beast. It was the only one of its king. A gigantic one-eyed tick. It has a long curving horn and it undulates rhythmically. Its amber exoskeleton is rough and cracked. Beware its webs! Quazi was associated with murder and caverns.
Don't see any reason why we can't incorporate two designs together so...

- My chip's burnout smell is far more poisonous!
Urist: Shut the fuck up, both! *Pull the lever*
I have one:
Iltahamara Raehome:
"A great eyeless ass. It has a fat bulging trunk and it has a regal bearing. Beware it's fire!
I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist dusting off the old mouse pad to draw this one.
Three beasts, one cup picture! A bit larger than usual, since I put a fair amount of small text in the image.
Since computer monitors were already well-represented, I drew on my elementary school days for inspiration on Uthimi.
It's probably hard to tell, but that's a fly trapped in a web in between prongs on Quazi's horn.
Well cerol suppose to dump a FB for winning but I guess DD inclusion cause the hiatus.
I wasn't sure I'd officially won - usually Stone Wera tabulates the votes, right?
That said, if you want me to submit an FB, maybe Luslem here will do?

His noxious secretions cause various syndromes - slippery smooth floors, broken legs, brain concussion, overtime work for medics and some valuables missing (as he's associated with theft).
Here's something related that I constructed a while ago.
I can't believe it took me this long to realize it fits just right in this thread.

Jabber
A towering six-legged crab. It's pale-pink exoskeleton menaces with spikes. Beware it's poisonous bite and it's thirst for warm blood souls!
Jabber was associated with caverns, nightmares and vicious gnaugas.

I apologize for it's incredible crapness.
I've also been following this thread quietly for a while so thought I'd have a go. I'm assuming we're using Ukla.
It would be sad to let this contest disappear again.
While sketching (more like doodling) I remembered this FB and came up with my version of Ukla.

I kept thinking of Nyarlathotep when reading Ukla's description.
I think it might have influenced me a little.
Well, it is certainly gaunt.

Here's my first ever forgotten beast
Ugosh Ibrukstagshil: A gigantic hairy dimetrodon. It has a broad shell and it has a gaunt appearance. Its dark pink hair is patchy. Beware its poisonous bite!

I hope you guys dont mind me showing a quick sketch of Ngudgu >_>
(sorry if the image is too big... The thing wouldn't resize right)
This doesn't technically belong here, but if you've ever visited the RAW Travesties thread over in Modding, you probably know of a creature called the Unicorpion. I didn't feel like pulling out my tablet, so I made a quick pencil doodle of how I envision the thing.
Nothing special on this one, but I sort of imagined the 'wings of stretched skin' to be flying-squirrel-like, and had this image of a giant snail majestically rippling silently through the cavern gloom. I don't know how well I managed to convey that here.
I need to learn how to draw better. How long does a "quick sketch", as many of you call your work, take time for you?
I haven't really timed myself, to be honest. Mine really do tend to be quick sketches - I don't really have the patience to do anything too elaborate. I'
d guess they tend to take anywhere from 5-20 minutes, depending on the amount of fiddly stuff I put in and whether I end up erasing entire body parts due to messing up scale or something.
If have a great one, if there are any takers. It is actually a demon, but I couldn't resist...
Etar Patternedtombs was a mint green demon. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered ass twisted into humanoid form. It undulates rhythmically. Its mint green feathers are patchy. Beware its deadly gas!
It's reign of terror was ended when a mighty dragon destroyed it with fire.

No, not again!!!! We're still stunned by DarkerDark's picture of fire-breathing ass.
EDIT:
Okay, I've overсome the temptation of picturing it as ass and forced myself to picture is as donkey

I'd call him Etur Eeyohohohohohore

I didn't have a FB to go by, so I just went with the eight legged quadruped this time.

Yeah, I took some creative liberties. It's tricky to make a dinosaur composed of flame, and even trickier if he has to be emaciated.
Also, I need to get a scanner.
And a pencil.
It's been a few weeks, and nothing has been awarded, so I'm going to throw one in.
"The forgotten beast Ngostong Ustuzbad Agakzomus has come! A towering three-eyed alligator twisted into humanoid form. It appears to be emaciated. Its cream scales are small and set far apart. Beware its webs!"
In an attempt to jumpstart this, I drew a little rendition of my own.
Yeah, I can't draw worth carp. This won't be counted as an entry, btw.
I'll choose the winner after three days - that's on the 18th. Even if you don't think you'll win, at least entertain us with your attempt! :) That's the best part about this thread. All qualities of art are equally accepted here.
Forgotten beasts, you say?
Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing this thread start up again myself. It's inspired some crazy good things (and good crazy things).

I tested out my new tablet on something silly, and I should get some sleep
Well, I've been without scanner lately, (and will be for the forseeable future) but while on vacation my brother let me borrow his.
So, here's Ngedlv!

Well since the voting system almost broght down this thread in the past there will for the moment not be any voting just Epic and wierd "stuff". :P
Do you want:

Alright Sweet! Glad to see there are people still interested in this! I thought I was gonna be too late to the party to participate :)
I have class work I need to do today but I'll try and get my rendition of Ica Oilypride posted tonight or tomorrow if not.
Hope we can get some more people involved. This whole thing sounds like a lot of fun!
Cmon mate, me and "Mc+!!scientist!!+" need some more competition :D
Then competition you shall have friend.

I'm fine with the three day rule as mentioned. Maybe we could give folks an extra day if they know they will not make the deadline and let us know in advance?
As for the voting, I don't really care. I just want to draw monsters.
I am a little bit unclear though, did we start a new round with Slowpokes new Beasts?
Btw way guys feel free to speak your opinion on if we should keep it as a voting challenge or if we want it to just work in a more chillaxed way where everyone posts what they feel like and noone everyone wins? ;D
I'm all for being chillaxed. I'm not in it too win I just want to draw monsters. However I did think the voting was a good way to decide who picked the next beast. I can also see the problems that caused before though.
My suggestion: At the end of the round whoever picked the beast decides who shall pick next. So when this round is over, since Slowpokez posted the current beast, he would choose who the next beast picker is. Also some rule like you can't pick the person who picked you.
Its not perfect but it does away with pain in the ass voting and doesn't end up with a whole mess of monster descriptions being posted at the end of each round.
I do know though that would like to keep it in rounds with everyone drawing the same description before moving on to the next.
Thats my two cents.
Interested in hearing other ideas though.
Sounds good, just gonna post Urnburied before we begin :P(http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc401/zlowpoke/Osman.png)(http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc401/zlowpoke/OsmanUrnburied.png)

NEW ROUND:

Bonus:
Since some of you finish faster than others (others like myself mainly) I thought I would include a extra beast that you can do if you want after that main entry. More the merrier right?
I'm gonna say lets aim for Tuesday as a deadline. I have some class work I need to get done this weekend.
Now lets see some monsters!
P.S. Thank you everyone for your kind words on my last two entries. It's appreciated. :)

There's been some lovely stuff in here recently. It's good to see life in the old thread yet! Here's my Nolthag:

Pleasant surprise to return to the forums and find this thread's picked back up. :D
Took a stab at Nolthag in celebration:

Welp, I feel silly.
It just turned out that half the electrical outlets in my house don't work. Including ones I could have sworn did a few days ago.
And now imgur doesn't want to work for me. So I'm trying with tinypic for now.
I decided that Tholtig's secretions are released through his fin spines. Not much else to say about this one.
Stayed up last night to finish the monstrosity.
I give you Nolthag.

:D
Nice to see this thread back up and running.
I really didn't want to follow DeferoMortis but here's my take anyway.
Hope I'm still in the time.
Sorry about late submission, but hey guys I ain't called slowpoke for nothing 8)
As you can see I fail at using my scanner :( , piece of shit technology >:(

For those of you who can't see the previous picture I colored it for you :)
Here's a picture of Nolthag in his correct colors, don't think anyone noticed that he's supposed to be pearl-colored :P

Didn't have much any time to draw the blind-beaver-monster-thing...

What did you excpect a 5th pic? Greedy bastards
And btw don't compare me to the guys who accually can draw :P, haven't drawn anything since kindergarden.
I know it's not DeferoMortis or DarkerDark, but here you go.

I saw 'lidless eyes' in the description and immediately the expression in this image came to mind. I don't imagine Énu gets enough sleep...

Sorry, it's very, very late and a bit small:
I wonder if cat FBs have head bump interactions. Hope not!
I know we're not voting, but I think I enjoyed slowpokez's the most.
I use GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/). It's free and not too resource intensive, but it can be difficult to get your head around. I also use a graphics tablet now but you can still do cool things with a mouse if you're persistant; I think I used the airbrush tool mostly for this one:
Btw while GIMP is downloading, what about a summary of all the contestants? :D Anyone?
I'm not sure I understand what you mean?
What I meant was that you could take all the entries and post them so that you could see them together...But something else caught my attention! :D
"The fuzzy select tool" in Gimp is probably the most useful thing since magma! :D

Once again I have to appologise for being so slow... :P
Reason to why I'm a bit late with my entry
Well this weekend I my friend just turned 18 so we had kind of a party for him.
Drinking a ton of beer...get sick
drink more to get rid of nausia...blackout
wake up a few hours later in an other house...big bowl of pasta on my knee
watch the hangover2...feeling confused
People start to leave...
Next day... wake up on a couch, clearly designed for a dwarf cause my legs were hanging outside
Realise that it's freezing...no heating in the house...
Stand up...Feel a f*ckn hangover coming
What would Urist do in this situation...Cure it with more beer!
Go and find as much as I can across the house... went home...
Later that night, regret earlier decisions...go to sleep
Abe:

Didn't really have time to put in any watereffects or proper lighting ;)

Oh jesus, one of the most scary things I saw here.
Thank you :D
but you've probably missed some of the stuff by darkerdark and deforo :P
(http://i1171.photobucket.com/albums/r560/DeferoMortis/Ica-WEB.jpg)
Actually, I seen whole thread already ;)
DarkerDark's are more... impressive, mighty. But not really that scary. And the snail FB (the one that got colored later) was kind of cute :P

more mighty.
yea...all run to the bunker, the mighy pink snail is coming... :P
So, I tried to imagine a giant lobster covered in long straight hair, with two comically oversized mandibles. And it kept popping up in my brain as the Snuffleupagus. I didn't spend much time on this, but I thought it was mildly amusing.

I got half-way done drawing the dwarf when I remembered 'towering'. In my drawing, however, he's about the height of a dwarf, so i guess you could consider that towering for a coyote. ;)
I don't have much free time this week, so I'm uploading only a quick portrait.
As you can see I'm messing with digital painting recently.
Well, here's mine. It's not the best, but it's decent.

Great work everyone! Looks like this monster's a big hit! Ustxu looks so cute. :3
Here's my rendition of Ustxu. It was losta fun to draw that bright mint green fur. :D

Will probably keep doing these forgotten beasts drawings as painting practice each week. They're a lot more interesting than drawing something boring and normal!

Printer y u no work without random software...
Is it one of mine (HP)? If so, random software is very easy to find.
No, its a canon, I just use a school laptop (newer than my own one), and can't install. I wish they could just work without software like a camera.
Oh well...
Great work everyone! I wish I could have replied during the week but I was bit preoccupied. But oh well, you all made an awesome turnout this round!

I'm not gonna have time to finish by the deadline and I don't want to slow things up any further. My classes are more spread out over the week this quarter and so I'm having to adjust to that.
Anyway, here's the inprogress sketch that I have currently. This will have to be my submission for this round.
If we get the next round started swiftly my weekend should be pretty clear to work on whatever the next creature is and I'll try and get this one finished and posted as well.

Because of the coral I figured he may aswell live in an underground lake. Personally, I think it looks abit too... 'Rock' like.
Here's my Egngun:

Whoa, I spent way too much time on this, considering it looks like an upside-down ice cream cone in strawberry syrup LOL.

Unfortunately, finals and moving back to the other side of the state has left me with little to no free time. As such I never finished my drawing. Here is the bare bones version of what I had in mind. Oh well, I shall reuse this idea later.

Wow, you have all been amazing! How am I supposed to pick a winner from these submissions?
Let's review the entries first
(http://i.imgur.com/vHtV8.jpg)
I just love the simplistic style and the scattered brush makes for a great coraly texture.
I really really hope to see your future interpretations of the coming forgotten abomination!
Coral is indeed very rock like stuff. I really like the touch of scattered algae and the spiral horn just breaking through the skull. The eye alone makes for an amazing look. The dwarves have just awoken this monstrosity from its eternal slumber. Prepare to die!
The lighting is superb and so is the texture it highlights. By the time you see it coming through the mist, it's probably too late.
Upside down ice cream cone? Terrorgnome? Underground abomination?
All of the above? Truly terrifying and hilarious at the same time. I just sure hope these aren't his younglings he's carrying around.
And thanks for the Speed Draw, very interesting to have seen you working on this jolly fellow.
Majestic. I can't really find other words to describe this coral incarnate.
I hope that you find time to finish him and if you do, don't hesitate to present him to us!
Great, now that we have all the submissions lined up, it's probably time to pick a winner.
I just want to thank you again for your submissions, because we all know that this contest must not be allowed to die.
AND THE WINNER IS:
rcmgames
Congratulations!
Thanks PlutoniumApe! I just want to say that I have a lot of fun with this, it's very inspirational, and it gets me to draw and practice a lot more than I had been before! I love seeing how other people imagine these things. Congratulations to the others, they were awesome as well.
Here is a Forgotten Beast that is close to my heart; he burned down my entire fortress of dwarves! He's kind of weird, but it's going to be cool to see what people do with this! I give you, Stosbub!
The Forgotten Beast Stosbub has come! An enormous kinglet with external ribs. It has a spiral shell and it has a gaunt appearance. Its amethyst feather are downy. Beware its fire!
I'm going to put a loose deadline of next Wednesday on this, and work from there depending on how many submissions there are. Good luck!
For reference, this is a Kinglet (I had to google it...)
Well rcmgames, I did what I could to make your beast worthy of destroying your fortress. Unfortunately, it is still a giant ball of fluffy, downy feathers with an extreme adorability factor.
Did someone say 'cute'?
Edit:
Had another body from a prior attempt - if you don't like it too cute ,)
Read one after the other.(http://tnypic.net/8291c.png)
So yeah, since it has a shell I thought it would use it to open up the egg.
Notice the cloud of smoke at the end of the shell. Stosbub is actually able to dig through solid rock with his beak. His favorite rocks are lignite and bituminous coal. He eats the minerals which then pass through the birds digestive system and end in the shell part of his body, where they are used to...
make the bird go off like a rocket! (yes that's fire coming out of the shell.)
Also, dwarven dialogue:
"You ready for this?"
"Well, captain, I'm not entirely sure if this will work out as inten..."
"When you came here you said you were a competent trapper. You still have the cage?"
"Well yes, but that's not what I mean..."
"Good. On three. One, two..."
Our scanner f-ing sucks. These Look way better irl.
Hello everyone! I finally decided to break out of the lower forums and enter this every week. I don't intend to win since I don't play DF long enough to encounter forgotten beasts, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy watching other people play it.
Since I can't generate a monster I'll just stick to the side lines and just post my picture anyways, so don't pick me. Well... Unless there is a forgotten beast generator I missed. Either way here is my submission.
I think I made the fire too small. Almost looks like it's a chargin' its lazor.
Ok so we have:
diamondwolf: I really like the style, almost looks like it could be stained glass.
PlutioniumApe: Also great style, love the fire and feather work.
slowpokez: Great detail in all the happenings around Stosbub!
chewie: The saga of Stosbub... Great depiction and love the humorous captions.
1: (http://tnypic.net/8291c.png)
2: (http://tnypic.net/0a303.png)
3: (http://tnypic.net/97483.png)
and The Fool: A great piece, excellent lighting and story elements.
And.. I'm going to have to go with... SLOWPOKEZ! It is such a detailed drawing, with the various dwarves and ruins. It also really captures the anguish of the misinterpreted mother figure with the black, bleeding eyes... Congratulations! Now pick a new one so we can all get started on another!
What a surprise, I was not expecting to win again :D
Well here's (hopefully) a real challange for ya'll :P
Ladies and gentlemen let me present to you...
Aspad EchoMurk
(http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc401/zlowpoke/Aspadechomurk.png)
I pretty much pictured Aspad looking just like the image PlutoniumApe posted, with maybe a bit more "Great Unclean One" influencing it. But then I started thinking about this creature whose squirming flesh composed entirely of filth would twist and turn around an unseen skeleton. This creature would reveal it's face, a grinning skull, the symbol of death, just before consuming a living thing by absorbing it like an amoeba.
You guys inspired me to give this a shot. I don't have very much experience with this kind of art, so any feedback on my composition or whatever from people who know what they're doing would be cool.
Tried to capture all the elements of the description. I envisioned a tall, grimy figure slowly floating through the "depths of the world" until those digging too deeply would attract its attention.
EDIT: realized it was pretty dark on most displays, lightened it up
I'm sure we'd all be interested in seeing your renditions, even though those particular competitions are done.
Well, if you insist, hehehe...
Alright, here we go:
Galka was a forgotten beast. It was the only one of its kind. A towering, eyeless kite. It has a fat, bulging trunk and it belches and croaks. Its slate gray feathers are long and sparse. Beware its poisonous vapors! Galka is associated with torture and caverns.
Washedcoastal was a forgotten beast. It was the only one of its king. A great three-eyed turtle. It has two short tails and it has a bloated body. Its mint green scales are jagged and overlapping. Beware its deadly dust! Fotha was associated with water threalldom and caverns.
So if nobody minds I'll be posting this stuff from time to time.
Those are indeed amazing. Keep them coming, please!
But how about the original contest? Should we pick a winner and/or another Beast?
Haven't gotten to draw anything myself, which I aim to change soon.
Great to see that this thread can still attract amazing artists 8)
Edit:
The best I could come up with. Heavily influenced by the previous pieces.
Please excuse the horrible quality.

(Due to some glitch with imageshack I the coloured version is gone. For now only BW version is up)
I have just started with digital art, so be gentle.. :)
I sketched on Asus TF201 and colored using Gimp and Aiptek Hyperpen 6000U.
I got a bit restless waiting for the next beast, so I did this as a warm-up. I hope no one minds me posting it here.

I think the cavern could have done with more detail. Mould and fungi I suppose. Also, scales? Hrm... let's pretend they are very fine scales ;).
DG has come! A nondescript human in human form! Beware his mediocre talent, limited techniques and questionable taste. DG was associated with mechanical pencils, erasers and posting stupid drawings in other peoples threads. In a time before time DG began wandering the upper forums.
It has a lot of faults. I don't like it enough to try and fix them but I spent too much time on it to simply bin it outright. I drew it in pencil and then used a sepia auto effect as a cheap way of colouring it. I'm not sure if it achieved nightmare-fuel because after drawing it for so long it just looks goofy to me. The idea is that Aspad is made up of thousands of grime balls, a lot of which got washed out by the scanner but you should be able to make most out. I imagine Aspad consuming victims and excreting the useful stuff that we use and instead keeping the stuff that we would expel, thus a monster made of grime (which I know isn't necessarly shit, but whatever). The folded wings on the back aren't used for flight, instead they are used to create a gale that blows the grime-dust from it's body and onto it's victims. I am lazy and didn't try to draw that effect. I have no answers for other obvious design questions you may have.

DG (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa159/Drunken_gun/kiwi.gif) <-- This was my fav guy in SF2, he is a beast promoted.
Your avatar = Awsome
Hi fives! I love SF2. Not just the game but the artwork. My fav was Jaha because he was the first dwarf you get and he used an axe, but Kiwi definately makes a better avatar.
I like that waterfall, and the dwarf about to be brain-drained. Also, what's with the evil face lurking in the shadows? :o
Just for fun. I'm waiting and waiting for an interview or two for potential employment, so I have nothing to do until they sort the paperwork on their end.
Therefore, I draw.
The cavern is too light and I haven't really got the knack for drawing water yet. Also, how do you draw a gaunt crocodile? With hair!?
This will be the last random forgotten beast, honest! I will wait for an "officially announced" beast to draw next - besides, my game keeps generating emaciated blobs of snow or fire-breathing sparrows with external ribs... not really the most fearsome or inspiring monsters ever.
I give you an depiction of (a presumably brief) encounter between dwarfdom and Strabo Okomstot by a underground lake. All craftsdwarfship is of the most mediocre quality.

ps. Headhanger, could you set a deadline for submissons on Strabo so that we will get things rolling once more.
pps. (edit) As Headhanger, also I have been struggling with capturing the caverns and underground water. Any tutorial and/or speeddrawing video of these would be most appriciated.
BAM! Kept it fast and loose, though I'm not entirely pleased with how it turned out.
My take on Strabo Okomstot. Pretty sloppy.
As an appologie for my rather late apperance... here is a random fb.
Simple.

Desc.
Hopefully we will be back on track soon. ;D
(http://tnypic.net/257b2.png)
Deadly too.
I'd draw Strabo as well, but it'll be just a copy of Headhanger's. It's perfect.
Also, a bonus!
Alright then! I suppose you guys just want me to pick a winner? Okay. But I'm going to leave a little comment about each drawing before I do. I hope you don't mind.
Here we go!
Child of Armok's Strabo Okomstot
I love how this drawing has so much going on in it! Here you can see the struggle of Armok's poor dwarves as they fight for survival against Strabo Okomstot. Unfortunately, the crossbow dwarves might have arrived too late to save their comrades.
Headhanger's Strabo Okomstot
The veins! The veins! I love how you've done the wings of thinly stretched skin! So pleasantly horrifying!
IpunchFaces' Strabo Okomstot
YES! Look upon that menacing posture! That drooling gaping maw lined with teeth! Look upon Strabo Okomstot and know that he is your doom! Woe to those who stand their ground against such a beast!
Awesome.
Slowpokez's Strabo Okomstot
I've always liked Slowpokez renditions. I think this is the first one I've seen that he's animated! I love how he can take any beast and make it look totally unique! This rendition of Strabo Okomstot looks like it was taken from a horrible nightmare! It's wonderful! (and bonus for the noxious secretions)
Yorak's Strabo Okomstot
Wow! A lot of time and patience went into this piece! To draw each individual scale and then color and shade it... Dang! It makes my head spin just thinking about it. Looking past the technical side of things though, I imagine Strabo slowly lifting itself out of the murky waters as the medical dwarf stands mesmerized at the sight. He knows that this creature is something greater than the common cavern denizen, but is unaware that these thoughts will be his last. Very cool.
Headhanger's Thebi
Thebi, forgotten beast hisses sharply, tasting the air with his barbed tongue. In a time before time, his hairy hide offered him the perfect camouflage in the moss covered pools of the underworld. Now, the mosses are gone. So, a word of caution to any dwarf who would dare venture the caverns alone; Thebi is on the prowl, and he hungers for flesh.
Icecold's Thebi
Oh wow! Double wow! This speed-painting style is amazing! The lighting is wonderful and really sets the mood. I like this a lot! (and if you look closely you can see that Thebi has claimed a victim! very nice touch!)
Logrin's Thebi
Another awesome action piece! I love the work you've done here and how you've captured the raw power behind Thebi's reptilian body! That poor poor dwarf! He didn't even see it coming.
His friends will come looking for him, and when they find the broken remains of the bridge, what will they think? A freak accident involving a poorly constructed bridge? or will they know that something terrible lurks in the waters below?
PlutoniumApe's Thebi
Hahaha! I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I want this made into a plushie so that I may cuddle it and squeeze it and call it "Thebi" in a high-pitched girly voice! It's so cute but so awesome at the same time!
DG's Aspad Rusmoebra
Jesus Christ! How horrifying! DG's rendition is the stuff of nightmares. Clearly he's fallen under the influence of Slaanesh and must be purified!
I give this drawing two nipples up. Err, thumbs... I meant two thumbs up. Yeah.
Icecold's Dadi the Pulpi Deep
No words can express how truly awesome this picture is. I think we can all agree that Icecold's a master of that speed painting style. Beautiful lighting, a fearsome awesomely drawn forgotten beast, and it's a fight scene to top it all off. Yep... I do believe we have a winner.
Slowpokez's Ulash
Ulash is actually dwarvish for "Snuffleupagus". Good lord, that thing is terrifying! Well done, Slowpokez! Well done!
-----
These are all wonderful entries! But there can only be one winner, and if I have to choose, I say it's gotta be...
Icecold!
CONGRATULATIONS!
------------------------------------------------
I love when you decide to review everything Darker :P
...However you'd make a shitty critic 'cause you'd give everything 10/10 xD
On a completly slightly unrelated note I would like to point out that -to avoid confusion- Headhangers round was a bonus round, right?
Which means that this week Darker's beast is the "official entry",
(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y139/DarkC1oak/DF-nuglush.jpg)
and that at the end of this particular challange he will also be the person declaring a winner.
This is necessary to get the thread back on track (I might add that I could possibly have been the cause of this slight derailment), if however Darker would choose to let Ice pick the next winner due to some sort of "fairness aspect" I don't belive it would cause any further problems.
I hope everyone agrees with me on this topic as it is my outmost belief that this is the simplest route to get everything back in sync. :)
I must appologize beforehand for any potential spelling errors since I tried to post this from my phone.
Congratulations Icecold. A well-deserved victory!
Lobsters are not the easiest crustaceans to draw. But Nuglush is pretty cool, so I had to have a go at it.
Notice the vacant eye-stalks, poison sacs, and mutated pincer.
I'm still not happy with the caverns, but oh well. I wanted to put some water in there to complete Nuglush's spheres, but my water-drawing skills are still not "there" yet.
Really loving the perspective and overall vibe of that one Headhanger!
Are you using watercolors, Logrin? Love the detail. Same for Headhanger, love the effort put into the details.
Here's my entry
(http://i.imgur.com/vpA4z.png)
Wow, thank you, guys! :D Yes, you can do whatever you want with them: save, post somewhere, redact, masturbate to...
Oh, and I'm completely ok with Darker hosting this round.
Also, can this really be called speed-painting? For example, I spent a few hours on Thebi, not really speedy, is it? Or is it just a certain style? I'm not really an expert in that kind of stuff, to tell the truth.
So... blind arthropod with bright, warty shell, pincers and poisonous sting? Sounds suspiciously familiar. :) Guess I'll pass this round, it took me several days of fighting with procrastination to finish that scorpion...
Still, couldn't help myself, lol.
I'm still not competing, of course.
But there's some awesome stuff already!
Really great, some scary lobster you got there! Seems like a frame from some animation movie or something, wouldn't be surprised if it moved. Love how you included thing associated with fb (too bad you didn't include water, even if you're not that skilled at it. Skills ain't gonna refine themselves! :) )
Also, I'd add the poor owner of that pick, split into halves, laying in a pool of his own blood, but that just me...
Wow, the details! That's some flippin' effort! Very well done. Would have been even better if you'd have added some towercaps or dwarfs (or both), so that we could see that it's not just a white mutant lobster, but a HUGE white mutant lobster.
Dat style! Simple but awesome. Never had any major success in attempting to draw that way, guess I lack some necessary qualities or something, kind of fixated on realistic stuff.
And if you don't consider it to be lobsterish enough I'm sorry but I'm a bit tired of drawing lobsters :P
Bonus lobster(http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc401/zlowpoke/Lobster.png)
are we waiting for a vote, or can I submit one?
Feel free to contribute! :D
If you're confused by how the challange works read the bottom of page 78.

Slowpoke, just noticed your Boss "Bat-Glider" in the background. Tremendous.

PRESENTING: A crappy image I drew in 2 minutes because I don't know when this round ends!(http://i.imgur.com/4grBP.jpg)
Lobsters are difficult to draw, guys. But you don't even have to try to change them much to make them look weird. I did a pen drawing on a pad, some of the lines from the back of the page have come through but it's messy anyway. I even attempted a cavern with mushrooms because the rest of you aren't lazy.
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa159/Drunken_gun/lobster.png) The disembodied dwarf head has a long moustache because I stuffed it up and couldn't fix it with the pen.

I've been kicking this around for a couple of days. Hope I'm not too late.

There's some great entries here!
I suppose it's about time to pick a winner, or is someone still working on something?

Brilliant indeed!
Looks a bit small, though, more like a Giant Lobster.

Hello everybody, I'm back. I suppose you're all ready for me to choose a winner for this round. Well, Alright. But I dare say it's hard to pick out a single winner amongst all these truly awesome submissions. So, after humming and hawing for the past couple of days in my usual indecisive way, I've decided to call on the help of an old friend. Let me pull up the transcript here...
DarkerDark: Thanks for showing up on such short notice, Cero!
Cero: Well I couldn't help but hurry over when you mentioned forgotten beasts. I'm an expert of sorts, you know, and I do so enjoy informing others about these wonderful subterranean creatures. Did you know the life expectancy of the average forgotten beast is directly proportional to whether or not he resides close to a Dwarven Mountain Home?
DarkerDark: I suppose it makes sense.
Cero: Makes sense? Come now, old friend, you can't possible sit here and say that the systematic extermination of the indigenous populations of the underground world makes sense. It's Dwarven barbarity, I tell you! And it must be put to a stop!
DarkerDark: Err... I...
Cero: I apologize, friend, I didn't mean to direct that little outburst at you. It's just infuriating that these forgotten beasts, these gentle giants, these sweet princes of the underground are facing such persecution at the hand of those bearded devils... Anyways, let's carry on, shall we? I believe we have a contest to judge!
DarkerDark: Yeah, Alright... Let's see here... This latest round is Nuglush, an enormous eyeless lobster.
Cero: Ah yes! I'm quite familiar with Nuglush! "Nuglush the kind" we call him back at the forest retreat. He's quite the gentleman, you know.
DarkerDark: Let's review the entries, shall we?
DarkerDark: Hmmm... Yes, it would seem that Logrin just drew a portrait of his beloved pet lobster, Mr. Moustachio. Look, you can even see the aquarium pebbles set about his feet! Actually, I'm almost positive this is just a picture of Mr. Moustachio with a photoshop filter applied over it!
Cero: Come now, Darker! This is clearly Nuglush rendered in all his glory. If you look closely you'll see that what appears to be common aquarium pebbles are in fact clusters of a rare subterranean fungus. This man knows his subterranean environments! Not only that, but you see that the lobster in question is actually trying to entertain us by dancing a jig! Clearly this man knows Nuglush personally!
DarkerDark: Right... Well, it is an awesomely drawn lobster, in any case.
Cero: Indeed. I say he's captured Nuglush perfectly on canvas!
DarkerDark: On to the next entry!
DarkerDark: This next piece was drawn by PlutoniumApe! Here we see a lone dwarf warrior ready to give his life for the mountain homes by facing down the fearsome Nuglush! Who will emerge victorious in the coming battle?
Cero: What nonsense are you on about? Clearly we can see that Nuglush is at the pinnacle of his feverish jig, trying desperately to impress his audience. If this was not a still picture, I imagine it would be revealed that those legs are moving so fast and with such co-ordination they'd just be a blur of frenzied movement.
DarkerDark: Right... How do you explain the dwarf raising his sword at the beast?
Cero: The Dwarf is clearly stunned at the raw display of such emotionally driven dance and all he can do is raise his sword to cheer the beast on.
DarkerDark: I like it!
Cero: As do I, my friend!
DarkerDark: Next!
DarkerDark: Oh yeah! Here's the kind of pictures I like! It shows how fearsome Nuglush really is, as the beast tears the head off a nearby dwarf with it's powerful and terrifying mandibles!
Cero: There you go using that word again. Fearsome? I say, friend, you don't know Nuglush at all, do you? No. The look on that Dwarf's face says it all; He couldn't handle the awesome display of Nuglush's furious dance moves. He literally blew his mind with such force that it separated his entire head from the rest of his body.
DarkerDark: Uhm... Okay. Why then is Nuglush carrying the guy's head?
Cero: It's obvious, isn't it? Nuglush is rushing to save his new found friend by attempting to put the poor Dwarf back together.
DarkerDark: You're too late, Nuglush. He's gone...
Cero: He tries so hard... It brings a tear to my eye... Excuse me for a moment
DarkerDark: Hold on, I'll get you a box of tissues.
DarkerDark: This piece was done by Headhanger. Here we see Nuglush wandering the caverns.
Cero: Indeed. But look at that poor creature. Nuglush is completely distraught! And rightfully so, his life is a hard one.
DarkerDark: I suppose he's taking the death of that dwarf rather hard.
Cero: This happens to a lot of the forgotten beasts that roam the lower layers of the great cavern. Many of them begin to question their very existence. Questions such as "Am I cursed to forever walk the bowels of the earth alone?" "Will I ever find true love?" "Will people always attack me based on what I look like, instead of getting to know me on the inside?" It all weighs heavily on their mind.
DarkerDark: Somehow I doubt those are things a forgotten beast would think about.
Cero: It just goes to show how little you understand the creatures you draw, my friend. If you would take the time to get to know these wonderful creatures on a personal level instead of just blindly illustrating fictional rampages, you'll see that each one is like a snowflake. Complex, unique and beautiful. Obviously this Headhanger fellow knows the heavy emotional experiences that accompany Nuglush through his journeys. And he's managed to capture that brilliantly on canvas! Well done, Mr. Headhanger!
DarkerDark: Right... Moving on.
DarkerDark: Here we have Robocorn's excellent digital painting of Nuglush wreaking destruction while rampaging in the lower caverns! Oh no! The drawbridge! Look out Urist! He's about to smash that bridge to bits!
Cero: Calm down, friend, that dwarf is in no real danger.
DarkerDark: Eh? But the bridge... the fleeing dwarf... the claws... Nuglush.
Cero: You've totally missed what the artist was trying to capture here. We can see as clear as day that Nuglush is helping the dwarf with the construction of the draw bridge. "Did you forget your tool box, good sir?" inquires Nuglush, "Very well, go and fetch it, my good man, I'll keep the bridge aloft in your absence."
DarkerDark: Wow. I can totally see it now!
Cero: Yes. I wish more dwarves would take the time to get to know the forgotten beasts that inhabit their caverns. They'll find that the majority of them are quite the gentlemen, Nuglush included. This artist has clearly been touched by the kindly nature of Nuglush to paint such a stunning scene.
DarkerDark: Yeah, it is quite good, isn't it? Look at those lighting effects. I wish Robocorn would grace us with submissions more often.
Cero: Indeed. I believe we've found our winner.
DarkerDark: Hold on, Cero, there's a couple more submissions.
DarkerDark: Here we have slowpokez's action packed submission. He certainly knows how to appeal to everything I like to see in a picture. Look at Nuglush go! Look at the carnage! So Freakin' Awesome! Don't go telling me this is just Nuglush dispensing hugs and kisses to the good dwarves, either. This is an epic battle and it will only end in bloodshed!
Cero: Bloodshed indeed! Such is the fate of many a forgotten beast at the hands of those murderous dwarves! You can clearly see the dwarves are the instigators in this altercation, as they're quite literally throwing themselves onto the back of this beast while crossbow equipped marksmen take careful aim at Nuglush's vitals. Poor Nuglush. What did he do to deserve this? Nothing. He was just walking amongst the stalagmites of his ancient home, minding his own business, when these bloodthirsty savages set upon him! Bearded devils! Pint-sized murder machines! That's what they are! Bringers of death and destruction!
DarkerDark: Err... Cero, calm down! It's just a drawing!
Cero: They think they can just cut down our forests and slaughter the creatures of our world like they were nothing more than just material to be harvested! Blasted bearded brutes! I bet they didn't even have the decency to eat Nuglush! No! They probably just tossed his corpse down a mine shaft, or into one of their ghastly volcano pits! Savages! Fiends!
DarkerDark: Cero! Calm down, friend!
Cero: What are they good for?! What are they really good for?! This world doesn't need them! They're parasites! They're worse than parasites! They're bloody dwarves! They destroy everything they touch! They're worse than goblins! Killing our beautiful trees so they can throw the butchered remains into their terrible furnaces! A pox on them! May death claim them! Kill them! That's what we'll do! We'll wipe them out!
DarkerDark: Cero! Please!
Cero: Sound the horns! Muster the troops! Prepare my armor! Summon the champions! The land will feast upon the blood of dwarves tonight!
Well... This is pretty much the end of the transcript. Cero gathered up his things and stormed out the door. Which is for the best, I suppose... Because I'm not sure what he'd make of my entry.

My horrible addition of Xuku Xutzestslospo
(http://tnypic.net/09a5b.png)
It's hard to see the trunk, and I did an ocean side cliff because the titan's lair had the word "sea" in it
I should have drawn this and scanned it, instead of using the mouse and GIMP2 :-\
P.S.
Always wanted to post something, but without a good tablet all digital art is horrible

That would be me idea of Xuku.
I never want to look at this ever again
I hope that helps.
Thanks! Here goes--

This is a study of two dwarves, and Xuku (not to scale)
I know i'm a little late but i JUST saw this thread, i colored that picture of the beak less bird with a rectangle body, by i think DarkerDark, because i just loved it!
Oh, sorry I went on vacation and forgot about this. Gimme a few minutes and I'll make my decision.
It is my honor to apologize to all of you for trying to get you to draw a creature made out of a transparent substance and for not showing up for a few weeks.
Wow, look at this one, I keep looking at the sea and I still have no idea how you did that. I can't remember if the cave was near the sea or not but
good attention to detail with using the name. I don't really know what a wombat looks like but it sure looks like it could be made of clear glass.
I like the little warrior in for scale. Don't fret about your media, you can still do vector art pretty well with a mouse, try out inkscape or something.
Heh, this guy seems almost small and cute until you compare him to that river. Kudos for including the associated with rivers subtext.
I guess he looks green because of all of the grass around him must have been moving pretty carelessly to get lost in this big field.
A pretty well developed background for one of these things. You're the first one to note the deadly spittle.
I like those mysterious pillars behind Xuku, whatever could those eldrich inscriptions mean?. Standing rigid and crystalline
a wombat the size of a mountain surveys the mountaintops
(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7275/7770689280_00e21b1d6a_b.jpg)
There's some thinking out of the box on this one, No more crystalline glass structures, the whole body's just
transparent and the only part that isn't is the digestive system. The respiratory, circulatory, endocrine, and nervous systems are still transparent though.
I like how you tried to give sense to the nonsensical epithet by mounting a huge sepia bud to the back of Xuku. It also appears to have ten legs
and a huge toothy maw. I don't know how the goblins that named this thing came to the conclusion it was a wombat
(http://i.imgur.com/Jbont.jpg)
Holy crap, If I'd ever seen a wombat before I'd say that that looks just like a wombat. That spittle does look pretty deadly
since it appears to be reacting with the ground. I'd hate to imagine the trouble you'd have to go through to make it look like it
was made of clear glass.
I guess A-Cuter-Triangle wins
I guess A-Cuter-Triangle wins
I have received the Shrug of Glory. (!!!)

After all the dodgy shading I couldn't be bothered mouse-drawing little dwarves being eaten by Omil so let's use our imagination.
crickets do have mandibles. Nothing that extends far beyond the head, but they can certainly chew. A forgotten beast of a cricket may have pretty impressive chompers.

Pretty similar to grasshopper's jaw and head structure.
Thank you Eric, also does the drawing HAVE to include all the elements of the description? I've noticed that some of the previous drawings lack the "Broad Shell". Or "Bloated Body".
EDIT:Consider that question irrelevant for now, sorry if this is a tad large but Voila! I tried to capture more of a bloated body than an exoskeleton but wah-hey. (also that thing on it's back is the shell)

Hope i'm not to late.

I just can't wait to see what the next Forgotten Beast is :D ! I hope it's a Dinosaur of some kind.
Sorry, nothing quite so magnificent. I present to you: Quelge Thefin Usluh, Forgotten Beast:
(http://i.imgur.com/L1R4h.png) (http://imgur.com/L1R4h)
For the record, this is my first forgotten beast for the first fortress that that actually survived long enough for me to start building madly. He appeared in the first set of caverns. I was enduring siege after siege when this blighter decided to sit in the water, a few levels below my main staircase, scaring away all of my metalworkers, weaponsmiths, and armoursmiths who refused to climb down to the magma forges. I wound up clustering my marksdwarves in the stairs, peppering him with bolts. I finally had a ledge opened up overlooking the underground lake where Quelge had taken up residence. Quelge ended his existence, riddled with bolts from a squad of marksdwarves, eventually bleeding out in the water he called home as the grim dwarves looked on from above. His rotted lower body is all that remains of the mysterious, hideous beast.
Congrats on a well-deserved victory, Knick. :)
Maybe you should make a series of comics about The Forgotten Beasts From Outer Space? :D
Now, about that toad...
Good thing I have a bit of experience in drawing skinless things.
I've got it!
Let's give a round of applause for my digital camera, which has left this image a bit bigger than the piece of paper I drew it on!
Okay, it's not colored, but I included six crudely-drawn dwarves and a bunch of cavern wildlife! And the shell is actually enormous! And the head looks like a skull with some muscle and sinew on it!
This basically just became a greyscale painting of a toad without all the specific features the FB has. But I was quite surprised by my painting skills and since there's not much going on here, I thought I'd upload it anyway.
I also stopped painting mid-work while I got on the background. So it's not even finished.

Casot:
This one was done purely with watercolours. The mandibles did not turn out quite right. it is a very hairy Bison. The lack of nose just seems so randomly absurd, anyway.
Casot
(http://i479.photobucket.com/albums/rr159/gimpnipples/casot.jpg)
he turned out more kawaii than I wanted but oh well :P
I'm a bit distressed at the silliness coming from this particular contest. I suppose I have to raise the tone a bit with a second entry.
BEHOLD! YOU THOUGHT YOU WOULD ENCOUNTER CASOT THE FORGOTTEN BEAST! INSTEAD, YOU ENCOUNTERED. . . A GOD!!!
(http://i.imgur.com/SXQyF.jpg) (http://imgur.com/SXQyF)
Sorry--no colour this time.
Now that I've done that, I'll go hide my head in shame.
I like Knicks dwarfs best of all
(http://i479.photobucket.com/albums/rr159/gimpnipples/k2.jpg)
"Going on break"
Thanks for that! However, if you look closely "going on a break" is actually fitting a bolt into his crossbow. I think the only thing missing is the golden haired dwarf carrying a baby into battle. I'm not ashamed to admit I was influenced by some of the "prepare for battle" scenes from Bravemule.
I liked my first FB better, but meh. Also, using my tablet's camera, because why not?
Haven't been here in a while, had some free time this AM at work, sketched up this gem, lol.

wait... what... bloated? DAMMIT AGAIN!
So I whipped this up in a mere couple of minutes. I was picturing a noseless bison, and was imagining it spitting and bloated, and all of a sudden this coalesced into my mind.
Casot indeed!
I'm terribly sorry.

Second version, an messy line drawing I tried to paint out, which resulted in a mess. He has nicer teeth though.

Digging back and going to post for some previous FB's. Here's Omli!

Didn't really like how it came out.. but oh well, go for it!

While we wait for the next FB to draw, and while we kill time by discussing the name of female genitalia in different languages ("vittu" in Finnish, BTW), I present you my rendition of Usluh the teenage mutant hero.. toad.
I know I'm horribly late with this submission. I drew it a month ago but had not time to color at the time. Now I had time, but had already forgotten that it should've been skinless. I'm so sorry Usluh, please do not eat me (too)!
Your comments are more than welcome and all feedback, good or bad is most appreciated!
Whoa, don't die!!

Ruyava Urnnightmare was a forgotten beast. It was the only one of its kind. A towering scaly salamander. It has a pair of knobby antennae and it undulates rhythmatically. Its dark chestnut scales are jagged and overlapping. Beware its deadly blood! Ruyava was associated with water, murder, and caverns.
Salamanders don't have scales, so I drew bits of shale or something embedded in its belly and legs from millenia underground in the caverns. A dwarf could easily be forgiven for the mistake.

Beware its disapproving gaze!
"Ruyava Urnnightmare" is a pretty badass name for an amphibian. Here is my version:
I really don't know why, but once I read the description, I could not get this image out of my head until I put it down on paper. The medium is ink and brush, with watercolours.
"Ruyava Urnnightmare", my very first attempt at drawing beasts of any nature. I like how it turned out, but you can definitely tell that I only did this in an hour...
I hope that this little addition gives some kind of credit to the awesomeness that had graced this thread.
If there are more FB needed, I am sure I could scrounge up a few!
Haha. I'm enjoying this Post-It Note style of drawing.

Phew. Finally done.
Mox the Random Burdens
(http://i.imgur.com/BytdY.jpg)
The medium is ink and brush. I originally was going to include the pencil sketch, but I accidentally uploaded it as a PDF. I had a really hard time with the square shell, of all things, and trying to fit the feathers in. It took a few tries, and I still did not get it quite right.
Here is a little somethin' to try and keep this weary thing going
(http://i1171.photobucket.com/albums/r560/DeferoMortis/GiantRETOUCHED_WEB_zps97158189.jpg)
Done with ink and retouched with photoshop.
After getting home I got into a legend list and found this guy:
And although my artistic skills are somewhere below zero, I tried drawing him anyway.
I might try coloring him in with some software on the PC (although I also have zero ability in that).
slowpokez, I really like the fact that his body is transparent, and I imagine the horror of seeing your friends and co-workers trapped inside a big nasty beast.
I am not skilled at drawing, but I think i'll post some drawings of the ones with good descriptions anyway :-).
Thx ^^
Not skilled with drawing? Doesnt matter! :D
I had never been drawing in my life before joining this challange :P
This was my first attempt at reviving this glorious thread.

Keep up the good work n lets get this rolling again :D
Alright well I'm sick of looking at this thing so I'm just gonna call it done. It's from a round I didn't finish a long while back.
"Thol was a forgotten Beast. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic skinless bison twisted into humanoid form. It undulates rhythmically. Beware its poison gas! Thol was associated with death and caverns."

ugh...
Aha, that's so gross. Nightmares, here I come.
Had a doodle at your beast, KingStrongbeard, buuuut midway through I took a turn for the super derpy, heheh. Probably won't fulfil your purpose very well.
Not pictured: Urist's helpless laughter causes him to breathe much more secretion than is healthy, and Baros gains another inexplicable kill for his list.
Oh my...Defero, are you trying to purposely give whole of bay12 nightmares?
strongrudder, pretty nice drawing! I find his derp-trunk awesome.
I came here to post the colored-in version of the warbler FB that I drew a few posts back. I've never really done anything with picture editing before, so it's not...good, but it's more how I had it in my head than with just gray pencil :-).
Just gonna put this here and hope that I get better at drawing.

Alright, here is my attempt at the leech.

Note that I tried to make him have poisonous gasses.
Also, slowpokez, I don't know if people are still using the contest idea, but if someone posts a description of a cool beast I'll try to draw it.
EDIT: Freshmaniscoolman, I draw with pencil and I use photoshop for coloring, but I am still very noobish, so it may be best to pay me no attention :P.

Not very "gaunt" but who cares :P
Well, right now while I was drawing the fb it about midnight, you know it's dark, quiet and etc. Suddently out of nowhere rcms speeddrawing video starts up and for some reason I had my volume turned up to max...needless to say I literally fell out of my chair. I guess it must have been lagging and then decided to start again an hour later :P
I've been somewhat unable to contribute lately but I've seen some very cool stuff here and I'd like to say you're all awsome :D
Did you use MSPaint in this one?
Doesn't the lack of shading indicate that? ^^
Tbh i think if you wanna get serious with your drawing you'll have to pay at some point, could be a scanner n good tools or a decent program...I don't fckn know :P
For a pic like this though I gotta use Gimp to split up the layers.
Pros n Cons with using gimp
Pros-
1Free.
2Got lots of stuff.
3If you want to make extremly bad animations and doesnt have flash? Gimp is the nr 1 tool for making really bad animations!
Cons-
1Stuff can be complicated and it's not really explained anywhere... A lot of trial and error. Might not be true for everyone but for me who hadn't drawn before it wasn't easy to get into.
2It's pretty fckn unreliable. Been drawing for 1 hour without bothering to save? 9/10 times this is where gimp decides to crash :'(
3 I dont know how to save pictures without fckn up the quality :-\ It might be impossible, it might be difficult to figure out or I might be retarded. Either way I needed a third con to balance stuff out :P
tl;dr- Ask someone who knows this stuff!
Sounds good to me. I'll go ahead and post a description for the contest since no one else has yet.
Tharumi the Dead Hole of Nightmares was a forgotten beast. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic sauropod with external ribs. It has thin wings of stretched skin and it is slavering. Its golden yellow scales are round and set far apart. Beware Its webs! Tharumi was associated with murder and caverns.
In a time before time Tharumi began wandering the depths of the world...
I'll pick a winner Sunday.
My sucky attempt :D

Alright, here is my really crappy rendition of Tharumi. I did not have a scanner atm due to being out of the house today, so I borrowed a camera.
Note that the horn-like things on his head are useless wings. And the webbing is coming out of one of his knee-caps (although his other knee-cap should be able to do the same). The squigly lines under his mouth are supposed to look like drool. (I feel that my crappy sketch actually requires this amount of explanation due to being a bad photo and not having color).

Very dragon-like and I dig it so you win this round. Honorable mention to Slowpokez because that thing is unsettling.
Thank you, I really feel honoured.
After Searching for a while in the legends mode I stumbled onto this gem:
(http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/1465/ayanudescription.png) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/41/ayanudescription.png/)
I think it provides a good challenge, and I am looking forward to seeing Interpretations of this ... thing?. :)
I had the same thought. A guant walrus is still a rather fat animal.
I did draw this, though. It's technically a titan...
Part spider, part stag beetle, all walrus.
Blue ball point with lazy cross hatching and then lazier pencil colouring to fill in Ayanu's body against the white background. Sparse scales were an afterthought. A brave dwarven representitive offers Ayanu a giant egg in hope of mollifying the monsters rage. Will it be enough?
My entry
(http://i.imgur.com/lgROD.png)
I just had to add a monocle and top hat, he wouldn't be complete without it...
Had a spare 15 mins and decided to try out a gaunt walrus:
Ameablable, that's a very dapper walrus. Nice work getting the blood in there =P
DeferoMortis, did you do that to your paper on purpose? Because it works, and I like it. I'm not sure why.
This is not a real entry, since it isn't really a FB I have ever encountered, but is instead just a generic one I doodled out in MSPaint. (Yes. MSPaint. I don't have nice things at work. :( )
I had to make mr dwarfypants in the candycane getup 2x his original size, since previously you couldn't make anything out. This has the scale between them totally off, but meh.

And here's my latest lunacy:

k33n, that walrus's face is scary as hell. I love it. Unfortunately, the flippers, they just... well, here. I'm so sorry. (http://tnypic.net/2kezg.jpg)
That is one impressive mspaint job, wierd. Reminds me of old 16-bit RPG monsters.
Ahaha! That may just make it more terrifying, smirk.

Anyon wanna do a drawing for me?
Clear, as in, you can see the internal organs. Not too surprising, many real life cave adapted animal species become albanoid, and or transparent.
Take for instance, this texas cave shrimp.
A giant transparent wasp would be a bit like the enormous transparent spider from that terrible 80s fantasy movie Krull.
(I don't suggest actually watching the movie, mind. Its really bad.)
At least, that's how I would imagine a transparent exoskeleton.
*edit
Somehow this post got really jacked up, so I fixed it.
First LOL
I can already tell this is going to be a very large image. I have most of Mr Waspyhead's Head pixeled in, (damned compound eyes!), and it is already over 200x200 pixels. Just the head. This is gonna be a huge pixel art. Glad I have all week. This conclude's today's time I can afford to spend on it though.
I might post a WIP later though.sadly, the lack of transparency effects makes the "transparent exoskeleton" thing pretty much impossible with MSPaint. I might have to build individual layer BMPs, load those into photoshop, and then composite that way.
Do the photoshop steps at home after work.
OK, here's the WIP.
I need to DL the description page....
OK, a little more WIP for today.
Looks like time to start doing accessories, background, and foreground layers.
I know this one is old, but here is mine from last week.
Starting to work on the new one right now!
Ask not why my wasp has raptorial forelimbs - ask why yours does not.

I think wierd's WIP inititiative is a good idea. I've been sketching Enira during my free time at work but I probably won't finish it in time for cut off. This is what it actually currently looks like on paper before I inverted the colours in mspaint for a quick clear-exoskeleten-in-the-dark-caverns effect:
It's only pencil so it's a bit light. There's still a lot I want to add, like the smaller set of wings, and I was also considering more Frankensteinian additions from others bugs. Because I never clearly know what I'm drawing when I start I always end up running out of paper like in this case. There's also a better than even chance that I will completely ruin it by working on it more and then decide to throw it in the bin, so consider this my entry unless I put up an update.
Ok, this hasn't gotten "the treatment" with photoshop to adjust the chroma, luma, and alpha between the layers, but here is a "quick and dirty" layer composite done in pure MSPaint.
Photobucket may have mangled some of the details... but meh.
The idea here is to go for the "covered with cavern fungus" effect for the floor. The midground layer needs lots of color manipulation, but I can do that with photoshop when I do the *real* compositing.
The plan is to put dead and dieing dwarves and the wasp FB on the midlayer (with lots of blood), and a crossbow dwarf peering around the safety of the big pillar in the foreground layer, then superimpose the screen cap FB description text centered at bottom.
Foreground isn't complete. Grey vine around pillar will have little dark red sweetpods on it eventually.
It's amazing what you can do with the spraypaint tool in MSPaint isn't it :D
Ok, a little more WIP.
Used GIMP for the compositing, which is not as familiar to me as photoshop.. but I think it looks alright.
Still needs dead dwarves, and the sniper dwarf. I will pixel up those tonight if possible.
Ack! Sorry; work schedule keeps me away from the sun. Thought it was still Saturday >_<
Alright, recap:

Excellent entries! You made choosing way too difficult. I hate you all.
wierd, you got it. I'm very much a fan of the dark, cool color palette, and that only makes those horrible insectile eyes stand out all the more. Well done!
DG, yours was a very close second, not least for the fact that I have a special place in my heart for the Brown Mantidfly:(http://m6.i.pbase.com/u34/crocodile/large/31356036.mantid2.jpg)
k33n, I saw your bug in my nightmares last night. I can't reward that kind of irresponsible behavior 0_o
Ameablable, yours keeps making me laugh by insisting on flying butt forward =P
GuesssWho... words fail me.
Also, on an unrelated note, I forgot to say a week ago: slowpokez, your walrus was frickin' amazing. Very Alice in Wonderland; I kept looking for Urist McCarpenter =D I hope you draw more here!
For some reason DF linux keeps complaining about GTK libraries not being installed, when they most certainly are. Stupid thing. Genning a new world from scratch (windows version via WINE) with some extra special parameters in the advanced generation mode right now.
Set number of megabeast caves to 4000 (Yes. 4 THOUSAND), and savagery to 50. I should get some interesting legends mode data out of it for sure.
OK, I have 4 candidates that I think have the right combination of WTF and difficulty. (so many "humanoids made of $Material. blech. skip, skip, and skip some more)
I will let you guys decide which is most desirable. :D
Spoilerized to keep from dominating the page.

It is 64bit debian squeeze. I will look to see if I can get the i386 gtk2.0 libs when I go home.
For now, my "not really an entry, since I have to judge" just for fun image so I don't feel left out...

Available in all major mountainhome trade caravans, or wherever fine dwarven products are sold!
It seems that none of have taken this one very seriously. Apologies in advance.

Too bad I am stuck with MSPaint. Have to make pixel art. That's OK, this one REEKS of 8bit RPG goodness!

By the way, can someone draw me a yellow-green, one-eyed, gigantic fidgity bear with poison mandibles? It just arrived at one of my forts. (Its named Ayanu Favamefayo, just FYI.)
ETA: and now it's Ayanu Iquilafafire Favamefayo . . .
ETA2: It killed a hundred dwarves or so. I abandoned. Anyone care to draw dwarves GTFO-ing?
I kind of regret using the highlighter now... :D
EDIT! Oops I forgot something!
Hehe, thank you! Now for the new beast!
Here's a forgotten beast that personally drove me insane. Midil, a towering one-eyed cardinal with huge mandibles. Appears to be emaciated and breathes fire. Boiling blood makes attacking him a gamble.
Some backstory about Midil's rampage in my fortress from my log that I have been making along the game:
- 24th Limestone. Digging deeper from 56. level started. So far nothing but worthless gems. I hope we'll find bituminous coal, but some miner said it's usually found in sedimentary stone layers where hematite are. That's why I suggested that we start test mining from 6. to 8. level.
- 26th Limestone. Bad news! Echoes of Forgotten Beast Midil were heard in the deepest cave of 56. level: a winged beast that breathes fire! This is bad because it can fly over the cliffs. Now there are two forgotten beasts that can enter the fortress if they will to do so!
- More monsters sighted in the cave: long tailed creatures called rutherers. Luckily path to that part of the cave has been secured by removing ramps.
- 4th Sandstone. Flying monster hasn't been seen in the area for a week so bravest woodcutter have entered the cave in order to collect all trees: steel industry needs more coal. Many haulers have followed their lead.
- On 9th Sandstone I was mining below 56. level when the worst happened. Midil The Forgotten Beast appeared suddenly and attacked woodcutters and wood haulers!
A huge section of the cavern was in flames as the beast hurled balls of fire one after another. Marksdwarf Kogansárek attacked the beast, hitting it once to right lower leg. War dog that was guarding the entrance burned to death, as did soldier Leklokum and marksdwarves Rakaslór and Zasmómgoz. Smoke filled the tunnel and cave when we escaped; guards Shemsedil and Såkzulfesh, marksdwarf Kogansárek, mason Zimkonos and miner Dallithrith were missing after doors were locked. It wont stop the beast, a mason must block the entrance!
One war dog charged the beast after all others fled, inflicting several injuries to this beast before burning to crisp.
- 19th Sandstone - four marksdwarf squads and one infantry squad has been sent to deal with the wounded beast. Marksdwarves charged the beast, firing and also engaging into melee fight, followed by infantry squad. A strike to beast's lungs spilled boiling blood all over the beast, but also over nearby dwarves. Marksdwarves Atírnikuz and Lasgantobul burned to death. Bimegdoth, militia captain of the Mansions of Light, perished to his wounds. Other dwarves received horrible injuries while fighting the beast - fire burned the head of Rakustkesh, the militia captain of the 5th marksdwarf squad.
When day turned to new the beast was dead; finishing blow was given by the famous marksdwarf Òdadónul Zocukoddom Deler.
A fertile cave is now a ashen waste, reeking of smoke, blood, burnt flesh and fat. Next to Midil's corpse (C) is a burnt body of a brave war dog. One near the entrance was chained, unable to attack the flying beast or flee its fire.
- Bodies of five missing dwarves were never found, only few tools they had dropped. Their tombs will stay empty so memorials will be built for them.
- Slaying of the Forgotten Beast was a great deed; a slab dedicated to it was built to the meeting hall.

Here is my take on Omethu, just wanted to share! Working on the new FB and also Queca Lionislands!

Here's my attempt to illustrate Midil, that flamy featherball that burned my woodfarm and killed my poor dorfs.

Here's some art! Woo!

Here's Midil!
Any beast is fine to me, feel free to pick one. Midil was drawn by slowpokez (who really carried out his threat promise and by rcmgames (twice?). Excellent job there, cardinal... such a promising word.
If there has to be a winner let it be slowpokez, just because of his absurb design XD.
"Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!"

Edit: I'll post a beast tomorrow, gotta go dl df again :P.

Allright! Devil-menace the motha-fcking mammoth!
My attempt:
My proposition is more a scene.
The context :
My Fortress was built on a volcano. And my city is the only one remaining of this dwarven civilization. All wiped out by nasty elves.
I was besieged by them, mounted on giant elephants, frogs, mosquitos and so on.
I pushed the right levers, and all the city was closed, except for some of them who could find a way to my magma trap (but that's another story).
Most of them stood in the rain, outside, waiting.
Suddenly, HIM, the great worm, arrived.
He immediately tried to kill the elves, and it was quite funny to see the giant frog ran away from the creature, while it was burning everything. He was just fast enough to avoid the flame. But at the same time, because of it, quickly, all the surroundings of the volcano were burning like hell.
And suddenly, SHE came. Athe pagedwave, on her giant mosquito.
There was a battle, in the sky, a mosquito against a bow-elf.
She blocked several fire, and at last, after one or two cedar arrows in the wings, she shot him in the head, and pulled the brain out of it. Under her, most of the lands were now burning, and most of the elves had to flee from their position, several died.
But not her.
I thought it was quite cool.
