More Varied Quests [Adventure Mode]

Basically, the title says it all.

In adventure mode, the quests all revolve around killing. Go to X and kill enemy Y. I would like to see some variation, and quests that are specific to an individual.

For example, you could be talking to Human McHumanPants, who tells you that their daughter has been kidnapped by Goblins located in Such-and-such-a-fort, and asks you to save her. You enter the goblin fort, locate Little Miss McHumanPants, get her to join your group, and depart. Upon reaching her home town, she automatically leaves your party and back to her family, who thank you and maybe pay you for your troubles. Wealthier families may be able to pay a larger reward than poorer families.

In the legends mode, it would say something like;
"In early spring, 255, Daughter McHumanPants was kidnapped by The Black Hand Goblin Tribe"
"In late summer, 255, Daughter McHumanPants escaped captivity"
"In early autumn, 255, Daughter McHumanPants returned to Hometown by Adventurer Urist"

Alternatively, you may come across a prisoner while raiding a Goblin Fortress, and they say "I used to live in X, please take me home". Upon reaching their hometown, they say something like "Many thanks, adventurer. Please take this <Cat Bone Flute> as a reward". Another quest may be a missing item or person. You get the last known location of them and must discover where the family heirloom of naked mole dog leather earrings are, or where the husband is. Maybe he got eaten by a lion, or maybe he's safe and well, but just lost.

Or, maybe the mayor wants you and your party to escort a caravan to another town and back. Perhaps nothing will happen, or perhaps you'll get ambushed by a gang of theives.

This would help make Adventure Mode more varied and interesting, especially since the outcomes of the quests are never certain, unlike the current ones, where you know there will be death, and for no reward apart from the gratitude of the people.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

As much as I love killing I still have to agree with this suggestion.

I like these suggestions, I wish these would be implented in a mod or in the next release of DF.

With the caravan arc right now it can be safely assumed that you will be able to escort caravans.

Adventure mode is going to be the focus for the next year or four, so more better quests is definitely planned for that time period (as evidenced by all the "adventure role" sections on this page)

In the shorter term, I don't see much planned.

He linked to the wiki page with a copy of dev_single, but specifically pointed at Power Goals for a reason.
