If only the download would actually download.  Two hours I've been at this, and it's got 14 megabytes, and I have to reinitialize it every twenty minutes.  Either there's more interest in this clunky old game than I would think, or Bethesda needs to shell out for a better server.

Gaaarrrr... apparently the 'archive is invalid'. I already setup and mounted DOSbox too. Is anyone else having this happen? Got an alternate download for us since the once on Bethesda's site seems to be being ganked?

Of course, with Daggerfall now released for free, I suppose you could just use any old formerly-pirate source you care to.  I mostly wanted to see if this direct-release package is any different from my old copies.

http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/downloads_games.htmNow you have no reason not to play.
Except that it's honestly not that great of a game...I'll take Morrowind, thanks.

VIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

:RAEG:
I know, I'm using Vista, too. Argh.
On a Side Note:
Sq. Kilometers for Daggerfall: 161,600
Sq. Kilometers for Oblivion: 41.4
Big Difference, and you said Oblivion had a Huge World, Ha!
Anyway, also tons of news for MechWarrior + Free Game. Best week ever or what?

Not a valid comparison. Daggerfall relied on randomly generated stuff, at which point you can say the world is pretty much as large as you want.

Except that Oblivion doesn't have several thousand towns EXACTLY THE SAME.

I thought daggerfall was... Boring, don't shoot me.

The graphics didn't bother me, they were even pretty for a game of the time, its just the combat was so, so so so boringly slow. It took ages to take a single swing at something, and the fact that stealth based characters were near useless in it didn't make things any better.

Morrowind was fun, with the expansions and a few mods, but i still think the combat and the sneaking could use some tweaking and improving.

Oblivion solved that, sneaking in oblivion was surprisingly fun, and the combat was improved, but it ended up looking like a more realistically designed zelda turned RPG with less action and a bit (a bit) more of dept (and without the awesome parts, of course).
I don't think it'd be appropriate to expect a better experience out of TES V, but hell, we can hope?

Filefront has a download set up on their site, it goes much faster from there.

I've had quite a bit of fun with this so far. Managed to actually get a character out of that starting dungeon, now I just have to decide where to go next.

Dark Elven Swordmage Action Force GO!!!

Well, I got it installed and running, finally, and now...  I'll leave it for a rainy day when I have NOTHING I want to do.

Got it and went through install. It kept telling me I was using the wrong disc. :(

Hrm, I did what they said, and I had that problem when trying to actually run it.  Then I installed the newest DOSBox (I was one version behind, it seems) and it worked.  *shrug*  Or maybe there was something in my setting that wasn't agreeing, or something.

PRO-TIP:  Dragging a file onto Dosbox automatically mounts and runs it.  Very useful if your files are buried in folders.
