Here's the thread for the last official meetup with more information on the location (http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=34366.0).

New forum person igdfilm is organizing a DF meetup and has asked me to put up this thread. The overall intent is to help with filming for a documentary -- igdfilm says that participation in the project is optional, so if you'd just like to drop by and play DF and chat and so on without being otherwise involved, that is cool. Zach and I will both be there.

This an all ages place-- please bring at least $15-$20 cash to pay your part of the bill if you plan on eating. We'll all go on one check to save our poor waiter some trouble. Any difference will be covered by me.

I will be there filming and Sir Finkus is likely going to webcast it. Bring games, laptops and any fun stuff you can think of! I'm open to more suggestions if anyone has some.

Not like I'd be able to make most of the meetups, but at least I'd be able to really solidly know that I'm missing out on something doable!

However, if it happens that I am, and am not dead tired that evening from said road trip, I MIGHT be there.

(Yes, I know I've been away from the forums for quite a long while and will probably be ducking out just as quick as I came back in... haven't really been motivated to browse through recent threads, er, recently.)

We have a bunch of people who are going to watch the webcast. Instead of a podcast show(since Rainseeker can't come) why not do a short q&a session during the webcast, where I'll read off questions watchers have submitted. Does that interest anyone at all? If so I'll start a new thread for questions.

Awww, thanks TurnpikeLad! I had a really good time hanging out with you and the other guys last time. It's like $200 for me to go, but I could go and make a podcast of the event if I had:

1. Some or most of the money wondrously appeared.
2. Someone volunteers a mic and laptop who would be there.
3. People who would tell me their stories about playing DF so I could have a truly community-made podcast.

4. Someone who could do all that for me, and I could edit. But I would rather do it myself!

If there is a confirmation on the availability of a laptop, then posting an official skype thing would be good. Does the meetup place have internet though?

If there is a confirmation on the availability of a laptop, then posting an official skype thing would be good. Does the meetup place have internet though?

It does have wifi, or it did last time. I might have a shoutcast server you guys can use if you'd like. I should have enough bandwidth to support a reasonable amount of people.

I recommend couchsurfing.org (http://www.couchsurfing.org/) for all your couch surfing needs. Some friends of mine down the street get folks in via this service all the time, and everyone seems very happy with it. Why pay for a hotel when you can stay for free and make new friends?

Alternatively, my place is just a couple miles from the venue and we've got a decent amount of crash space. Out-of-towners are welcome to PM me if they'd like to arrange something. As long as people are respectful and I don't get too many strangers in my house all at once, this should be workable. Maybe some other Seattle folks have a couch to offer as well.

Just got back from the meetup. Was great fun hanging out with everyone. Didn't recognize Toady at first because I'd only seen pictures of him with a beard and he's cleanshaven now. Very outgoing and personable dude, had a lot of fun bouncing questions off of him and didn't feel one iota of fan-weariness from him.

We didn't have anyone come over from the IGDA meetup AFAIK, but I'm a game developer and was talking some shop with Toady so that may have been the muffled part you heard. Guess I'll know when I check out the recording.

Actually, procaster automatically uploads all the video it shoots; if you click the "on demand" button on the livestream page, you'll be given a list of all the individual broadcasts to choose from.

As soon as the viewer is completely loaded, click 'On Demand' (bottom left-ish)
Watch the sections of recorded broadcast (it split every time they had to restart the stream, so a lot).

Nonsense. Truly alluring men look like they live in caves and eat their meat raw. There is nothing sexier than a man so refined in his facial choices that he puts the winners of the World Beard and Moustache Championships on edge for fear of competition.

I vote for Toady's beard, although at the end of the day his comfort has to come first, and with the blistering summer he's had to deal with I can see why a beard might not be practical.

As someone over 40 years old I often wonder if kids today get into board games at all or are board games becoming something archaic like newspapers?

As a 30-ish lifelong boardgame afficionado I can allay your fears and say that boardgames are having a rennaisance right now.
The game Settlers has even lowered the participation barrier for more complex games. (a bit)

There is a marked lack of gaming clubs though, to get gamers together.

My weekly gaming group is getting less active over time as we get girls, more demanding work and move away. It is a sad thing. Last time we even played rummicup instead of our usual expanded settlers game.

The guy next to me, who's name I've unforgivably long since forgotten, took an early lead. In the picture he hasn't yet hit the second flag. There were three others in the race, but they all had serious difficulties escaping the starting position. The guy next to me made it most of the way to the third board before I even made it to the second flag, so I decided to devote my efforts to keeping him from winning. In the picture I only have my first power up, but I ended up picking up two more. One was Radio Control which allowed me to use my laser to override the programming of my victim instead of damaging them. I spent most of the game chasing that guy and trying to radio control him off the edge of the board or into board hazards. And I succeeded.

It was a fantastic game and I extend my thanks to all the other players for their good sportsmanship (at least in RoboRally terms) and especially to the guy I destroyed for bringing the game and making it interesting.

Y'all are great!
