imperial guard (mostly) RTD holding the line simulator.

Hello and welcome to my very first RTD c: (and the first time GMing aswell, so be aware of this. Also death is fairly common in grim darkness of future. Ah, and my 40k lore knowledge and especially my english language or writing skills are rather modest)

The main objective of players is to hold the fortified position against all the odds.

How the game goes :
First of all goes the reinforcements phase, if there are less then 6 current living player characters, then the 6 dice is rolled for reinforcements archetype. All nonspecial characters are basicly guardsmen of rolled flavour.
1)Deathkorps
2)Valhallan ice warriors
3) Cadian regiment
4) feudal world regiment
5) feral world recruits
6) hiveworld underhive scum guys

then 20 roll is performed for special characters getting into reinforcement, if it is < 15( it is 25 % chance, so we dont have 6 comissars in the trench) , then there are no special characters, if it is > 15, then second 20 roll is performed among those, who are rolling in this reinforcement phase and had special character on in their preferences.
If reinforcement roll is above 15, and there are any with special character turned on among the rolling guys, then the person rolling the highest out of 20 roll gets the special snowflake role after performing 6 roll to decide it(yes, that is lot of rolls)

1) Comissar. (It would be really preferable, if you would not go full BLAM BLAM BLAM on your teammates, but it is up to your choice)
2)Sanctioned psyker. Can result in either epic win, or ruining everything. Psychic discipline is selected by lucky player ( if psyker will get rolled out of archetypes by rng ever ) from : pyromancy/ biomancy/ telekinesis/ divination/ telepathy
3)Field medic. Gets medical supplies and gets +1 to roll, if it is about stopping bleeding or applying medicine.
4)Priest. Faith and big chainsaw.
5)Leitenant. May roll for contacting command once per two days.
6) Marksman. Gets longlas and +1 to perception rolls.

then goes munitorum roll
1 reinforcements are awfully undergeared
2 reinforcements get the main gear except lacking something like helmets or boots.
3 just standart guard gear nothing too fancy
4-5 the whole squad gets random specialist weapon in their inventory, they are first pick up first serve tho( they may have limited ammo in case of meltaguns or missile launchers and that kind of stuff, aswell )
6 munitorum messed up and squad gets something extraordinary
after rolls are performed new player characters get to their position and things start.
each 10 days of game time, if there are less then 6 living player characters new reinforcements and munitorum rolls are performed

Dice Rolls:
[1] – failure that makes the current situation even worse.
[2] – failure that has no dire repercussions.
[3] – marginal failure – you did something, but it didn’t really help much.
[4] – marginal success – you could have done it better.
[5] – perfect success – it couldn’t have gone any better.
[6] – overshoot – you did it, but either caused damage to yourself, to someone nearby or to the moral fabric of society. (Yes, I used Harry Baldman rtd about undead c:)

Combat: opposed rolls – difference indicates degree of success. Subject to GM whimsy.

Death: usually happens, when you get injuries too hard to survive. This is simple.

Biography: who you were, what you did (please no going into warp and defeating Kharne in armwrestling match, also it should be fitting into the archetype you got during roll)

Well, character biography is supposed to be written after reinforcements roll, when you know your archetype. Now in reinforcements roll feudal world regiment got selected by dice, so biography of player character is supposed to be the one of feudal worlders.

Special snowflake thing basicly requires you to decide, if you would like to roll for special characters( if such roll appears), for example psykers are somewhat unstable and tend to sometimes blow up or create hole in reality and summoning LOADS OF DEMONS, so I have thought, that some players might want to avoid rolling for special character at all during their turn in reinforcement phase.

Ok, we got six players to begin and here we go ! :)

Comissar : Lord general, I demand to know, why feudal world regiment is deployed for the trench warfare.
Lord general : Estimated casaulties on frontline are 98 %, losing worthless feudal regiment, who cant even point lasguns in proper direction is much better then sending any useless asset in this meatgrinder.

Meanwhile in one of countless dusty munitorum cabinets.
Munitorum clerk Bob : I think, that I messed up and sent orange prison robes and industrial explosives shipment to the imperial guard and shipment of army grade gear to the penal mining colony
Munitorum clerk Joe : Well, it is not like anything can go wrong, anyway.

((Muskets, early cannons, swords, halberds, lot's of melee. They do usually get regular equipment of other Guardsmen though, like Lasguns and flak armour, so they aren't actually using trebuchets in combat, they just use all the guns and stuff (proably regard them as magic or someshit) as if they were ripped out straight from medieval ages into far future because that's what they really are))

The 'days' were grueling, between firing exercises, strength building, and discipline reinforcing... exercises. They were told little, besides that the God-Emperor needed them to fight, but not whom nor why.
Thus is the story of Guardsman Wynnif Urial. The dogtags around her neck bear her name, the name of her planet, her regiment, and her serial number, which she had to memorize, as she cannot read it.

But she's not.

She hops into the trench, lays out her pike and quiver, and loads her crossbow.

Aladgar Schwarz successfully pours gunpowder inside barrel of his first and second pistol (5)
And while rolled paper resists ramrodding, it finely gives up and slides inside(4)
After getting bullets inside Aladgar realizes, that pistols were already loaded, and he overloaded them right now (6 roll)
His pistols get overloaded quality : - 1 to next usage roll, but with odds of shooting some poor sod/ sods with two bullets from each gun( MUCH DAKKA)
Aladgar stands ready(5) He never felt so ready in his life.

Dennis points gun to the sky and shakes it a bit, to hear if there is bullet inside it.( roll - 6)
Suddenly gun goes off, well, we can say, that it definetly was loaded.

Bird in the sky (1 - 6) After the single loud scream bird falls from the sky.

And about bird we can say, that it used to be flying.
boomstick gun smoke roll (5) It is truly surprising, how such tiny gun can make enough smoke to fully cover man behind it.

Wynnifer attempts to hop in the trench.... And she... Does it ! (5)
Wynnifer accidently slips, breaking the pike in half and all the arrows slide to the bottom of the trench, DUH! (1)
Despite 19 out of her 20 arrows being scattered on the bottom of the trench and her pike becoming short spear and short stick, Wynnifer has no problems with loading crossbow (5)

Victor attempts to load the crossbow ( 5 ) And he successfully does it!Just like he was taught to by militia sergeant. Waging war in emperors name is much more easy then growing cabbage, at least for now.
After loading the crossbow Victor skillfully hops in trench(5 agility roll). May be it is not the feat bards will sing about, but you have to start from something, right?

Arthur Bergren attempts to light the candle (2), but it immediatly extenguishes, ugh.( one firematch less :c)
Arthur does not give up, as he remembers the words of Saint Sigismund the chainsaw murderer : " THE TRUE prayeth'r requires not the candle 'r temple, but the lighteth of faith in thee and the enemies around to slaughtereth. "
Arthur speaks the lithany of devotion (2) : thee carryeth the emp'r'r's will shall as thy torch, ehhh, what goes after this? Damn it, I always forget second half. Dear emperor, why could not your saints invent shorter prayers.
Screw this, lets leave prayers to the monks, I need to have crossbow loaded (5). Unlike with prayers, it is harder to forget, what to do next, so loading crossbow has no mishaps.

Edward Bent furiosly strikes the earth right in the place, where he stands (5) And he digs out a trench!
Edward decides to look around for some hostiles to rob of their posessions, BY THE WILL OF THE GOLDEN THRONE, of course!(5)
He sees group of five humansized blurry figures on the big distance, seems like they have mostly standart gear for soldiers living inside flying castles except left pauldron painted yellow with small brown circle in it.
Edward makes aquila sign and asks emperor for guidance. Unlike those stories about saints there is no golden light or anything.(3)

Will update gear screen somewhat later. Kot is behind big cloud of smoke, if you cant find him on map. I hope, that I got everything right, since. Would be nice to have some more defined action description, when you guys decide to perform some terrain interaction like trench digging, if you perform it
In case of Antons musket, I assumed, that it is 16th century 10kg musket shooting 20mm bullets, which required to be placed om something before being fired.

I'm assuming that the oncoming enemies are Chaos Space Marines ( we so ded) but I'm not sure we'd recognize a Space Marine. The ship we got picked up on would be the Imperial Navy's, not owned by a Space Marine Chapter. It's very unlikely that we'd have seen any Space Marines before.
Also, Space Marines are around 8 feet tall, and at least 700 pounds when in full power armor. I'd not call them "human-sized".

Since they are human sized, and seem to have generic ,, men from the skies" gear like green vest, green helmet and standart uniform except left shoulderpad/pauldron painted yellow and caring some brown circle, they are not chaos space marines :)Also throwing chaos space marines at underequipped players as first action does not feel like good GMing

Ah, sorry, when I hear pauldrons, I think of Space Marines, and ridiculous stuff like this (https://1d4chan.org/images/e/ea/Epic_vladimir_tzepesci_full.jpg).
I suppose these (https://1d4chan.org/images/2/24/Glory.jpg) do count as pauldrons, but the sheer size of pauldrons in 40K totally overwhelms the smaller pauldron sizes.

Edwards Bent quickly fires three arrows in quick succession

While third shot hits the tree, first and second arrow hit the guardsman. ( first arrow 6, second arrow 5, third arrow 3 )
Guardsman screams, as first arrow hits him and embeds in unprotected leg, second arrow hits flak vest and bounces off ( 6 vs 2, 5 vs 6)
Guardsman falls down on the land ( endurance roll 2)

Tear in reality instantly closes after Arthur enters it(hole to warp existance roll 2)
Luckily for Arthur, he does not bump into any warp predators during his short warp travel (warp random encounter 4)
And Arthur manages to exit warp right next to enemy through second hole in realspace (4= 5-1 )
However, Arthur notices strange voice in his head ( sanity roll 2)

Second hole in reality does not close itself, however ( warphole existance roll 5)
