Freezing Livestock
« on: December 13, 2006, 07:47:00 pm »

On a freezing map (Where I had no dwarf caravan in autumn. Bug already reported.) winter came and suddenly I got a message that one of my dogs had bled to death. I went and looked to see if there had been an ice wolf attack. But no. Instead I checked my other animals and saw many of them with moderate wounds all over. I watched for a little time more and they all started dying of.

My guess is that they died from the cold but why didn't they go inside? I checked and the door wasn't locked and it was 20 tiles inside anyway.

On a side note. What about an Ice House? Toady mentioned letting cold and warm things effect the environment. You could bring in blocks of ice in the winter and store them in your Butchery to keep meat from rotting.

The absence of caravans comes from the fact that the mules would die in the cold, but if the traders see that and don't bring mules, your animals should also seek safety indoors.  I'm not sure why they aren't doing that.
