Title: Confessions of a DF Addict
Post by: MiamiBryce on July 30, 2009, 05:26:23 pm
Mine:  I bought a 22 inch wide-screen monitor JUST to see more of the map in DF.

If it's resolution you want, there's little real need for an expensive new monitor - I have an old CRT that runs at 1600x1200 (and higher, but that screws up the aspect ratio). That said, I've never tried sizing DF to it...

The size of my various saved succession fortresses, fortress versions, tools, hacks and projects only comes to only 254 megabytes?!

I suppose I actually clean out the map export images, but what is the size of other peoples DF folder? That is, ignoring map exported images for things like the DFMA. Those raise the filesize like nobodies business.

350mb here in total.
I only run 1 fort at a time though (Well, 2 technically but 1 can't proceed.. 3 STEPS (as in pressing .) it crashes) and most of the size comes from different versions and folders with messed up raws.

Wow guys, impressed.
My DF folder is only 25.8mb and stored on a 700GB External hard drive with all my other fun things.

Hrm. I had 326.2 mB of crap, and I only ran 2 Large maps and all the visualizers and hack tools and the shitdump ala raws folder.

Anyhow, my folder currently contains 0 bytes. Finally upgrading to 40d13 just to try out the new visualizer.

400mb for me, and the only non-df file is a visualizer.

Probably around 250MB with tools and everything, and I have seven versions installed. I think most of them are devoid of anything interesting, but they can just sit there until my laptop gets a spring clean.

648.3MB, across 8 folders, each containing the game.

831 MB
Contains pretty much every version from df_27_176_38c. Also a few utilities and the archive zips. I tend to only have 3 or 4 worlds per version.

I once had my recycle bin reach 10 GB (yes, GIGABYTES) due to all the deleted failed map generations. Then I realized that I could edit the world gen parameters to get those tropical mountains... D:

6.88 GB in my .../dwarf/... folder on a 92.1 GB drive(laptop).  I have cleaned it out twice since I started playing not quite a year ago, it is due for another cleaning.  There are currently 12 folders including one copy of .40d11, 12 two of 13 and 3 copies of .40d plus some older versions.

wow. my total comes to 132.3 MB. Strange thing is, my adventurer DF folder is twice the size of the other two. Thinking about how memory-greedy most modern games are, this is amazingly small for how much pleasure it gives so many people.

dwarfs are small too, but it does not apply to every aspect of their life (if you know what i mean)! so is the game maybe it self is small on the harddrive, but what it does to your cpu is another story

Hey, it's not the size of the directory, it's how you use it.

No. Size DOES matter. Ask anyone.

Well, if the size is reasonable, it doesn't. Otherwise it does. Imagine a whale-size di...rectory. That would be crazy.

Hmm 3GB of DF stuff. Though, I have never cleaned it out as i have plenty of space to spare. It's getting pretty hard to navigate through it all, and finding the right DF folder as I haven't really named any in a recognizable order. Haha, the way i do it now is i label the folder I am currently playing as 'currently playing' or something else to that affect. Only problem is I now have 3 folders named like this so i don't know which one i am actually playing  :-\ . I don't suggest this organization method to others...

IMG=Folders hehe.
Hmm, I have a similar way, of course seperating from simple changes and whatnot. Kinda wish I remember to use a fresh installation instead when I first started it. It takes a bit to delete all those exrta images as well as saves and gens. Though, it does make some things interesting if adding/removing things in during a game can alter the universe.

Like, for example, I have a well running fort, and now all of a sudden, my livestock is overrun with brahmin from the fallout mod, or something like that.

Kinda gives me an idea for the side. How about I try to mod stuff in as I play? Like the nuclear catsplosion thing, except have them babbling as well or something like that, and not nuclear, just plain burning, while (if possible) fireproof, but still feeling pain? Sounds fun. Heck, I'll even see if I can genetically mutate all my local cats into carippos or something.

EDIT:
BTW, Boatmurdered Sucessor; is it related to Boatmurdered in any way? (IE, is the location/save?) If so, UPLOAD!

No it was a succession game that was a spiritual successor to boatmurdered. Well, It didn't get very far (link (http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=19296.0)). I think that folder also had the skyseal successor in there as well as a couple of other games and some pictures.
