Theres no way to make it last longer on the dwarves as clothing (it all wears out at the same rate it seems, even adamantine), but you very much can change the material properties to make it lighter, fire resistant, more resistant to damage etc, which can offer better protection.

You can't speak. You can't write, not unless you should somehow stumble on a library-- and that seems ever more unlikely. But perhaps... perhaps there are other ways to inspire dwarves. Perhaps there is a simpler way.

Yes. Maybe if you did something heroic... then you could bend the dwarves to your indomitable will.
Perform a sufficiently legendary deed-- the slaying of a great beast, perhaps-- and I the GM will allow you control over a contingent of Fortress Mode dwarves from the half-elven fortress of Windquake. These dwarves will (for the most part) obey you to the best of their ability... at least, to the extent that they can understand your gestured commands.

I used to serve at this church that had an old red carpet spread all through the building, and it got pretty... patchy up in the altar. You'd get these little two-inch circles of burnt carpet under where they kept the censer, each from a piece of glowing charcoal dropped by some hapless acolyte once upon a time.
Ah, you reminded me of one sacristan, we called him "Bane of the Candle-bearers". Because of red carpets and mess on them as well ;D

Funny, in my Frog fantasy world there's this system that every evil you do empties your soul, and every good deed fills it. In Kevekiii Kvakeii, the words for good (Varvluwuk) and evil (Ōūāvarv) are composed of these exact words, to fill a soul or to empty a soul. By emptying your soul too much, once your soul leaves your body, it has no reason anymore. No meaning. It is redundant. It exists, but for nothing.

Tiny bit smaller than dwarves, yah; maxsize 55000 to a dwarf's 60000. More importantly, they're boneless organisms composed entirely of soft plant tissue-- they break easily, and any damage dealt to their flesh is cumulative and permanent. These guys were never intended for Fortress Mode.
I'm tempted to make some creature tweaks at some point, now I think of it... a healing rate for the mushroom tissue (and a [SCARS] token for good measure!), and maybe a shorter childhood. What say y'all?

- Food supply will require some micromanagement, moving forward. I've been cooking flour and whatever meat is around, with a well for drinking water. Plump helmet consumption is cannibalism, and should be avoided if possible.
- Smith Rorul's hammering out a brace of hammers for the current militia now. They're unarmored, for the most part. Very squishy.
- The aquifer pierce is... functional, if a bit tangled. Be careful messing around in there-- aquifer is heavy-flow, and will absolutely flood the fortress if you crack it open wrong.
Beyond that: enjoy the shroom-ness. All luck to the next overseer!

From what I'm seeing, there's no particular reason not to give mushrooms to a baby once it's ready for solid food... probably once they're 8-12 months old? Just be sure to cook the mushrooms first.

I miss the wizard. I think, after his myriad incarnations throughout the centuries, he either attained something akin to Nirvana or moved to another plane for some other reason. I fear we may not see him again in this world.

Actually for real now, there are some Czech folk tales with Jesus and saint Peter wandering the world together, and I remember one when they get bread from some good people, and Peter is hungry ans soon eats it all himself forthwith, then Jesus turns back and says "Bruh" and Peter tries to hide the fact by throwing away the crumbs secretly, and the crumbs become mushrooms. And they say, because Peter couldn't sate himself with the crumbs, mushrooms won't sate you much.

Sadly, haven't made many mushroomy things directly. One tiny plump helmet man variant that flees from everything and tosses bursts of spores to enable its escape and I think one unintelligent critter you can eat. Dryads are also a combination of fleshy torso, woody/plant upper limbs and mushroom lower limbs. They're simultaneously animal, plant and fungus. But they're also intelligent so you can't eat them.

As an "unintended" side effect, said mushrooms were classified as animals until they changed back and could be pastured and, yes, butchered and eaten. (To limit this, I made it so that those who ate the mushrooms would also turn into muahrooms.)
