The meadhalls and keeps gather performers who never perform; why not? If you can audition to join the group as an entertainer, is the player expected to be the only one exhibiting their material? Why should everyone be so stingy with their forms?
In a settlement with an economy, a giving the performer a gratuity should encourage them to keep performing. Applause would be motivating as well.
