Title: Zombie Zoeds
Post by: Bouchart on May 23, 2015, 08:06:37 pm
Here's a new release on Steam that I just had to share with you all because of it is such a high quality product.

Link thingie (http://store.steampowered.com/app/366890/)

From the game's description:

"This zombie shooter. You have to kill zombies. The game is quite complicated.A wide variety of levels and large maps. The game itself has elements of horror.
In the story you're a soldier who was sent to the lab and get to know what happened. Before that you have to go through many levels. Remove them from the zombies.Zombies good Artificial Intelligence.
The gameplay is excellent and beautiful graphics. All this gives a wonderful atmosphere.Play and kill as many zombies. You will have to kill soldiers and turrets.Earn points and win. "

All this for $7!

I almost want to buy it so that the developer has to give me money when it inevitably gets taken off Steam.

According to the forums, all you wind up with is the DirectX redist. The actual game executable is missing.

Well done, Steam. Much quality, so control.

Gabe Newell didn't become a billionaire by giving out refunds.

They kinda did with the paid mod debacle being shut down.
Title: Re: Zombie Zoeds
Post by: Jeshin on May 23, 2015, 08:59:24 pm
The mod shutdown and de-listing a game are two different things. I actually think it's in their TOS that they're not responsibility for any issues with a game including it no longer being supported or being unplayable. They're just a 3rd party store front, which is why any refund would come from the developer.

Zombie Zoeds

This appear to not be a deliberate misspelling of Zombie Coeds.

I am disappointed.

Buy a bundle including the game ZOMBIE ZOID.
See it gets released on steam.
Check forums for when we'll get keys.
See nothing from devs.
Devs rename game ZOMBIE ZOEDS to try to get out of obligations to bundle buyers.
Buyers freak out.
Finally get key.
Install game.

That zombie survival game one time. I think it might have been called WarZ but that also might have been an alright piece of samey zombie survival stuff, hard to differentiate to be honest.

Guys, you need to check out the developer's website (http://www.mysticgames.com/). I'm not even going to try to describe it - you need to see it for yourself.

(Apparently in Swedish, patron means a cartridge for a firearm...)

Odd, because they people that made the game are Russian.
The languages aren't completely disconnected. Patruuna is the word for cartridge in Finnish, and both of the meanings of "patron" are connected, as far as I can decipher (etymology can be a bit difficult), to Latin, pater. Father, power, cartridge. Maybe.

And holy hell these games look awful. These games should not be salable.

Patron means boss in french, hence why I found it strange. It's still strange that it wasn't translated at all, or maybe not so much, considering the general quality of the game. I'm surprised they managed to sell it at all.

So I managed to get my hands on a copy of this dungheap.  Let's do a brief run-down of the game here.

Here is the title screen.  Note that EXIT is in all caps.  The title screen has no music or sound when you select an option.  "Loading" I assume means Load Game, but as far as I can tell there's no way to save progress.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

After clicking on New Game, it just plops you here without any screen transition or exposition.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Sometimes you run into survivors.  They have the same basic AI as the zombies in that they move towards you non-stop, but they don't deal damage to you by collision.  You can kill them, and you lose 100 points by doing so.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Presumably you are supposed to bring these survivors to the poorly drawn Evacuation Zone, but I never managed to, because of the sheer number of zombies.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Here are some zombies.  For the most part they just walk right towards you, but a few attack with a gas cloud projectile.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now let's get into the controls.  You move with the WASD keys and fire the gun with the mouse.  The gun actually has three firing modes, each of which use up valuable "patron".  You'd think that you can move and fire in different directions like some twin stick shooter like Robotron or Smash TV.  Unfortunately you can only fire in the direction you are currently facing.  Often this means running from a pack of zombies, turning around, and then firing while standing stationary.  The individual projectiles are very small, and you can only move in the eight cardinal directions so it is surprisingly hard to hit enemies.  There's no melee attack if you run out of patron but there are a handful of crates which replenish ammo.  There are also health packs.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The way to complete levels is to find some large black arrow in one of the corners of the level.  Unfortunately on level 3 the game lagged so much that I had to force quit the game from the task manager.  Interestingly, the task manager refers to Zombie Zoeds as "Application 1".

I really like the concept of this game! You are funded by pacifists on patreon, so you lose one supporter for each bullet you fire! That way, the game favors a non lethal strategy, something very original for a zombie game! Truly a gem of the video game industry!
