Why don't you have any adds, Toady?

I mean, I visit this website every day (well almost) and I think you could be making extra money there.  You have a fan base that loves you and your work enough to just straight up give you their money, just to support you.  So I mean I don't think most people would mind a few adds.  Hell I'd make it a point to click on each one every time I came here.

Because Toady doesn't like ads, I'd assume.

So what would be the point of having adds then?

Execution shaft aka. dwarven wormhole

Works as follows: Things enter one end, emerge at the other and then get eaten by worms.

I would click them as well I think. But I guess Toady finds ads too undwarvenly.

Using addblock so I wouldn't notice them anyway :(

I much prefer donating to seeing pages with ads on.

I would actually expect him to earn less if he put ads on his site.

It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

You could just disable it for the site. It's pretty easy to do.

I would rather see in game ads. I long for the day when a dwarf "cancels work, needs Viagra" pops up.

It wouldn't be popping up until after the viagra.

I can't believe I just went there.

Why don't you have any adds, Toady?

I'd rather stay away from the ads and all that if possible.  The support link isn't a matter of desperation at this point, but just a means for people to contribute to something I think is interesting, rather than paying fifty bucks for the right to own some rehashed crap.

We might have to try ads if there isn't enough support, but it's nice not to have them.  We'll just have to make a decision about that in a few months.  I don't imagine Google would like the sub games, and they have a content clause, but they probably wouldn't refuse me for those if I end up going that way.

Yeah, I'd also prefer to keep things ad-clean.  It's 'free money', sure, but there's the clutter and off-mission feel of it as well (although AdSense doesn't seem so bad, compared to popups and blaring sirens and your speakers yelling "CONGRATULATIONS! YOU WON A DVD PLAYER!" and stuff).
