DF General Discussion / Re: Candy is Overrated

This makes me wonder, is armor modeled like a sandwich or like a burrito? In other words, consider a scenario where a dwarf in candy armor is lying on the ground and is crushed by a boulder from above. If the armor forms a cylindrical shell around the dwarf, then the impact force should pass through the armor to the ground, leaving the dwarf inside relatively undamaged; if it's like a series of flat layers, then the dwarf should be crushed underneath the armor.

The image says "iron plançon à picot"

Is that something you modded yourself? It looks like the ç and à characters are encoded in UTF-8, while DF uses an extended ASCII character set known as code page 437. So the ç for example is saved as the two-byte sequence C3 A7, which renders as ├º in DF.

If anything, Canada would be a more likely option due to proximity.

Alright. Am I basically free to do anything ? I guess so. I'll try today.

EDIT : Loaded the save.
What the hell. This is flat dwarf fortress !! I have no idea what I can and can't do. Brings back memories.
Ohhw, the old UI was s***** !!
You can't resize the window.
'+'  and '-' don't work in menus.
'u' shows you aaaaall the units (dead, dorfs, animals, ...)

I hope I won't screw up everything. But...

* puts on glasses *

THIS FORTRESS MUST NOT DIE

No, it's still 3d with z-levels. You can't resize the window on the fly, but you can change the window size in data/init/init.txt, or go fullscreen with F11.

If you are on Linux/Mac, you can use [PRINT_MODE:TEXT] and play over a SSH session.

OP link is broken because it directs to the old file depot, but you should be able to find it searching the new one.

Link?

In Firefox, hit Ctrl+J, left-click "df_43_05_win.zip," F, left-click "df_43_05_win," WinZip, Unzip to..., "Error(2): The system cannot find the file specified. ..."

Sounds like a problem with WinZip. Does this happen with other .zip files?

DF General Discussion / Re: Do we want a board game?

I'm thinking of a game kind of like Munchkin where you build your fort from cards and funny and tragic events occur every turn.
Betrayal at House on the Hill might be a good game to get inspiration from. Instead of exploring a haunted house, you'd be building a fort, and the "haunts" would be events like invasions, mega/forgotten beast attacks, candy, etc.

There is no installation. Just unzip the zip file into a folder and you're good to go.

IIRC, boats have to wait until he's implemented planes/alternate dimensions, for obvious* reasons.

*Specifically, proper boats would require a way to have sections of the map physically disconnected from the rest of the world (so they can move around), and alternate dimensions are a simple starting case for implementing that.

"Player-lord" being hyphenated, I think, implies a player who is also a lord (both parts being nouns, rather than one being a noun used as an adjective).
