And I was just reminded of the engineer's scourge. Inconsiderate pilots.
Using a speed-enhancing item all of the time. Running around repairing nothing but the engines very quickly leads to no balloon and no hull. And then the pilot complains that I'm not doing my job, despite it being largely his fault, and everyone else's for never leaving a gun.
Interested but poor.
So there are still people who need a copy of this right?Think part of Greatorder's pack was going to me. You can send me a code and if I get a spare I'll just hand it back out again though. Not like I'm gonna instal the game twice and play as an engineer and a gunner at the same time and-
4-pack is only 15 dollars, so I'll grab that and distribute a key or two if anyone wants them (and use the others to try and lure in friends, heheh).
Girlinhat, you said you needed one?
Still got extra key for anyone who wants it!Eh, I'll bite. Sort of interested to see how the game has progressed since beta.
bdthemag, send me a steam invite tomorrow, I'm off to bed, and I'll send you the key.Sure, thanks in advance.
So, apparently I'm bad at this game. Not the best pilot it seems, but everyone has their knack. Try being a gunner.
This looks like an interesting game, but I ain't got a credit card :/ If there's still extra copies floating around I'd like one, provided there's a way for me to return it. I'd hate it if it turned out I don't like the game and just wound up hogging a copy that somebody could actually use. It runs on XP, right?Chances are if you're running XP, then your computer is older and you don't have the graphics to play it.
You can change your character's gender in the character thingy, but it's annoying having to switch between them if you want one for specific classes. I just stick with the gents.
As for ship to ship, another similar game does it but I've never tried it... something buccaneers?
Much as I'd like to, there's no way I can show up to the orientation event at 11:00, sorry.
Do you guys use voice chat often when playing? Also, I've seem to have forgotten, but does the game have in-game VOIP?Yeah, you can use 'x' to talk to the crew of your ship and 'c' to talk between captains.
Cool, are people going to be using that or an alternative program like Mumble? I think Mumble with the directional voice plugin would be interesting to use.Do you guys use voice chat often when playing? After watching TG's and Agry Joe's battle royal, I'm iterested. Shoot me a code cog.
Steam name's tryrar OFC
Well, as a reflection on the First Meet up, two things are clear:I dunno, those galleon rounds at the end were pretty slick.
1. People are intimidated by the Clan Tag BAYT
2. The level of intimidation is not indicative of our actual threat.
Yeah, we were literally tanking everything and shooting stuff down left and right, despite me fucking up with the ship loadout a few times. We only died a total of two or three times across three matches.Well, as a reflection on the First Meet up, two things are clear:I dunno, those galleon rounds at the end were pretty slick.

I still have 2 extra copies if anyone wants 'em
Also, we're online! Come join in!
I'm pretty sad I wasn't able to make the first meeting. Might there be another one soon?
Well, I'm central time, so that's actually a good time for meHit the social tab on the main menu, should give you an option to add a clan tag.
Also, how do I get a bay12 clan tag?
Where's the Modula's balloon? As in the actual balloon and not the repair point.Underneath the deck.
Oh, yes. The Modula is a platform built atop a balloon, so it's a flat-top. Which they ruined by making the pilot's wheel inside. All that unobstructed sky and they still put the pilot under a roof...Where's the Modula's balloon? As in the actual balloon and not the repair point.Underneath the deck.

so it's a flat-top.
flat-top
Aw man, Bulbor, that's some really choppy framerates there, I wonder you can aim at all with that :(
Nice to see videos of our glorious victories though!
What I wouldn't give for being able to fly a fighter off one of these things, and dogfight / drop bombs.......The adventure mode kickstarter had a stretch goal for flyable steampunk biplanes, likely using large zeppelins as aircraft carriers of sorts. I was thinking something along the lines of Crimson Skies =p
I think you're able to join in progress if your download doesn't take forever. If it's still going in 20 minutes, I'll try to join then.
I was running around like a maniac that game, making sure EVERYTHING was repaired and in good condition. I'm not even sure I fired the guns at all that game, but it was still a total blast :DThat's actually one of the most productive things you can do. Nothing is more frustrating than laying all guns into the enemy ship for 10 minutes and not getting a kill!
I'll be starting a new job early in august and will be working from 1-9pm on weekdays sadly, so at that point I wont be available until 10pm.
Weekdays I get home at 6pm -5 GMT, except tuesdays which I don't work.
Out of curiosity it seems you're scheduling the events at around 10pm EST which would be pretty late for anybody overseas, what time would it be where you are? 6pm?
EDIT:
Scheduled. 8pm Mountain Time -7 GMT
Check the group to see your timing, let me know if adjustments should be made!
Here's a handy converter:

.....Good goddamn, i'm even more impressed now with how fucking deadly the Death-Mobule is. Three games against it and boom, three (near) total wipes for us. Good games all around though, I had fun being an ace shot with the Lumberjack :D(I hit at least 10 times from over 400 yards I think)
I'm scared of pyramidions in the city map. They can go really fast and send you flying into every piece of scenery when they ram you and the mobula doesn't do too great on that map.
If we end up fighting each other for fun again, I will let someone else pilot to keep things fun for everyone. Or we could have a training night where we share some tips and tricks so people aren't quite as intimidated by piloting and everyone can enjoy having a turn.
Heh, now that I see the video, I gotta admit I'm surprised we actually killed something that game, due to dying almost as soon as we made contact. Also, I counted about 6 hits at medium range I made with the Lumberjack. But those were also shots I probably shouldn't have made due to the fact on that map, at that range, it was likely half the time the enemy was also behind a building as well as hidden in the fog. Oh well!

The shots were actually giving your position away and saving us the trouble of finding you. A sneak attack might have worked better, but we were standing guard near the point with all 4 crewmen looking for targets. My gunners had been instructed to shoot off your chaingun if you ever got close since it was the only way for you to punch through the hull armor. The balloon damage from the mortar was kind of annoying, but as the video showed it was very quickly repaired.
The important thing is that I unlocked a new hairstyle.
Also, I'm thinking about trying to run a goldfish where everyone uses lochnaeger rounds and mans the guns, and I just turn back and forth. Since we'll be playing expecting the weapons to be disabled the weapons getting disabled won't be such a big deal. :P
It means I'll need three people who are good shots though...
Well, I was more thinking of it as a way to build a ship that's good at countering disabling ships like the Mobula. By constantly turning back and forth (probably using the pheonix claw) I'd be able to get a powerful shot from each gun and have a good chance of sending the enemy into repair mode instead of "pound me over and over in the face" mode, EVEN IF they successfully hit my own guns.
So, new strategy.
Galleon. 2 Heavy Flak and a Mercury field gun on the left side. (Mines in back) Moonshine. Loch rounds. Tar Barrel.
Race in, unload volley on fly by, get the hell out of dodge.
How do the experimental rounds work with flamethrowers and mine launchers?
Also, I've noticed they do NOT destroy Heavy Flak Cannons - they damage them enough that you need to hit 'em once with the hammer, but you can do that while it's reloading. This actually gives you a significantly higher DPS than normal heavy flak cannon shots.
Seems like it could make a decent hit and run ship, racing by, dealing damage, and then covering it's retreat until it's in a condition to fire again. Picture a team with two of these babies, moving in tandem, approaching an enemy ship and blasting it one after the other (or even at the same time, going to each side!) and then creating a field of death behind them.
You guys have gotten me interested enough to purchase this game. Despite not actually doing much research. At any rate the current price seemed reasonable enough to be worth it if I get at least a few hours of enjoyment out of the game.
Questions: Can I fly a plane? I've been itching for a good air and or space combat game lately, this might help scratch that itch.
Is there a microtransaction model? If so, is it pay to win or pay to look good?
How do I join you guys?
A high fire-rate medium range fireworks launcher, the Banshee Light Rocket Carousel has no bullet arc and mildly poor accuracy, which makes useful as a detterent, smokescreen, close-range punisher, or in a similar fashion to the mortar. An interesting special property of this weapon is that hits have a chance to light systems on fire. No fire damage is done directly from the gun, but the charges from the fire will do damage over time. Harassing and damaging an opponent go hand in hand with this gun- especially so since this weapon has the largest AoE in the game.
Huh, I never knew about the flaming properties of the rocket carousel, I may have to try it sometime...
Edit: Is anyone going to be taking part in the 1pm event?
Against armor it's practically identical to the Heavy Flak - a little better, but not much, and unlike the flak it can't hit multiple systems.
Damage Types Balloon Hull Guns Engines Armor
Fire 1.5 1.3 0.25 0.25 0.8
Flechette 1.8 0.3 0 0 0.35
Shatter 0.2 0.1 2 2 0.2
Piercing 0.2 0.2 0.2 0.2 1.5
Explosive 0.25 1.4 0.3 0.3 0.3
Impact 1.8 1.2 0.6 0.6 0.8
When a destroyed system is hit, the damage will instead be applied to the armor, and then the hull.
Question - does that mean for the AoE damage that if components are destroyed it deals extra damage to the armor/hull on TOP of the normal splash damage?
Interesting...
Unfortunately there's no way to make your airships look snazzier than they already are =pThey're going to be adding things to fix that soon. Flags and stuff you can hang from your airship.
I, once more, suggest the carousel to be tried out on various ships :DEveryone on a carousel, everyone using Incendiary ammo! :P
But obviously that damage would be spread among ship systems as well. 2x shatter damage on guns and engines, plus AoE?
That event was fun. Although for some reason I couldn't receive voice chats half the time.
I just hung out in a little metal corridor hitting things with hammers and wrenches and occasionally shot rockets at stuff. Good fun.
Achievement? No, it's for walking 10 metres and also for rebuilding 3 components (or something like that).
This game has an achievement for walking 10 meters.
Just saying
I have Guns of Icarus. Joined the steam group!
Thanks for the music link too, now I've got the strange urge to wipe soot off of goggles and cackle maniacly.
So what would you guys like to see in the game? I know there are plans to add a multiplayer Adventure Mode which would be awesome, but personally...
I want some changes to scale.
I want to have a 7 person ship that uses up two slots, some sort of mammoth ship slot. Possible uses include "escort" missions, where a player pilots the Mammoth Transport across the map escorted by some regular ships while the opposing team of regular ships tries to destroy it.
I'd also like to see the introduction of "fighter boats" - one or two man small vessels that are frail but quick. You could bring along two or three of these in place of a regular ship.
More objectives. Deathmatch is fun, king of the hill is a pain, capture the flag would be fun.

Someone linked "Building Steam" by Abney Park.
Something wrong between your ISP and GOI's servers?
And those matches were fun (I was on the Cuddlefish, the Squid that fought allongside your ship).
Squids are the cuddliest of fish! They just want to hug you! With flamethrowers -- er, tentacles.
Love playing the game with you guys, but I think the game just dosn't like me. 2 out of 3 times I either freeze up loading and have to kill the game (and losing out on party voice coms) or the game takes 5 minutes to connect once the round starts. But if it's failing to connect I can force close the game and restart and it connects fine (but again without voice comms).
Weirdest bit about the connection issue is that when it's failing to connect my network status is fine, and I can connect to just about everything else fine, except the game, can't even connect to the GoI website while it's happening.
Well that was fun as always, especially when we were in the Professional Hugger. Dual front chainguns is really dangerous for taking down hull armor just before a ram!Best part is using Moonshine to get 2x speed, but no maneuverability and damages the engines constantly. On the Pyra, it generates enormous speed on an already fast ship designed to ram.
It really was. I had a wonderful time serving under you, Captain!Giggity.
OK, I really have to hear you guys sing that.
Only if we sing it during a fight, wearing leather jackets, and not actually doing any damage.
Even at it's worse though, I've found the game to generally be very playable as the lag generally comes in spurts. It can be pretty bad if you're a pilot, since that's all it take in some levels to crash into a building, but less important for most any other role.
I think I've had only a single game with lag so far, and even then it was extremely minor. So maybe it's also partially client-side.
Guys, I don't think it's safe to drink that moonshine if it can blow engines up...
Bunch of people online, no one willing to give me their name so no playing together I guess....
Edit: We should have an event on the steam group like "Everyone post your GoIO name".Would that be necessary? We could just make a discussion topic n the group.
What kind of hardware requirements would this game have? If I turn any settings I can down, can it run on a dinky laptop?Probably, my laptop is pretty dinky and it runs it at around 20-30 FPS. Can you post your system specs?
Please post the shanties ASAP.
http://youtu.be/UVUxlgL_gcM - We jumped into an ongoing match, and the ship I ended up on was another goldfish... with nothing but carronades. Well, I made the best of it and scored a few kills in the process. I gained some respect for the sky shotgun that night.I was actually running a carronade goldfish the other night. It really is beautifully fun. I had impact bumpers, so what I'd do was sink them and then just sit on top of them till they died. It was hilarious.
Deathsword is pretty good, but you guys are so unsyncronized :PRegretfully, that's mostly due to sound lag :(
Sorry I came on but didn't join, my friend gpot his friend the game today and we were just showing him how stuff worked.
Maybe sometime I can convince them all to join us? We'd be on our own ship though.
I've been using the coolant chemical instead of the fire extinguisher in our last games. Spray the most important parts of a ship as you pass by them (hull, balloon) and every once in a while make sure it's all cooled up. Never have to worry about fires again as long as you have access to those parts every so often.
You do kinda get in trouble when a nasty fire does break out. The only consolation is that once you chemical spray something with a fire greater than 3 then it can't catch any more stacks of fire, as far as I know.
They really do just feel terrible to use. Probably the least pleasant gun to man.
Ah I've seen some pyrmidian ramming antics. In a pug match as a gunner on a galleon. A Pyramid is charging us for a ram after taking out our two lower left side guns. Somehow the captain stops on a dime and backs up, the pyramid cruises by us, missing completely and rams straight into an obstacle breaking his hull. Then the our captain coasts right up and we point blank dual HWACHAAAAAA!!! the poor sap while he's recovering from the failed ram with our still perfectly functional right side guns.
0 to dead in a few seconds.
Nuuuuu my sniper spires >_<
double post. Heh, I guess the theme of today's session was "Death to Balloons!", especially when we moved to the ANAS Spirit of Ash, and then the Tentacle Demon. Goddamn, have I mentioned how much I love Lumberjacks? :P
Apologies for the off week, weekly events will resume.
Now, here's a thought. Our weekly activity has been fairly low - 3-5 people during events. However, when we do get together, we do extremely well.
There *are* tournaments for this game that are running. Would there be any interest in that?
Of note, you guys may remember the [DUCK] people we have flown against. They are some of the competitors.

I've never really gotten better, but I'd love to play a game with you guys. Did the group suddenly go 'MLG pro', or is it still just having fun with the game?It kind of dwindled in activity since it turns out that without new things or events GOI isn't too interesting. And this is the first big update in... a while.
