Title: the AI uses wierd weapons sometimes.
Post by: +!!scientist!!+ on November 29, 2011, 05:16:45 pm
I was playing as your average adventurer in a world with the maximum number of titans possible, and so I wasn’t too surprised when I randomly came upon a shrine in the middle of the humble desert. The titan was, if memory serves (I can’t exactly look at the thing at the moment) a three eyed gopher in humanoid form with fire breath, but that is not important. What is important is that he grabbed me by several article of clothing and then released his grip on several of them. I thought he had let go of all of them but I was wrong, he still had a death grip on my ”rope reed fiber trousers.” The result was when I backed away I immediately lost possession of my pants. Embarrassed, but not defeated. I tried to stand up, but he knocked me back down and beat me to a pulp. This, I suppose is unremarkable... except for the weapon used:

Anyone else have any stories that can compare to a man being beaten to death with his own trousers by a giant gopher?

My first encounter with a minotaur did not go well. His first victim was an off duty militiaman, who was fishing at the time. He knocked him cold with a punch, and took his peacock leather flask. Beat my entire fortress to death with it. Bastard still had it when I went to fight him in Adventure Mode.

One of my own adventurers (and several of his companions) were beaten to death with a rope reed shoe.

I once beat some bandits to death with a piece of string.

I like to stab somebody, fill a waterskin with their blood, and beat them to death with the blood.

The most common items I've been beaten to death with are my backpack and my sock.

Not a story, in fact not even something that occurred in adventure mode, however despite that you'll find its very much on topic.

Aside from the story of a bronze colossus being decapitated with a thrown live fluffy wambler, no, I can't say that I have.

Siged!

Wow, only four posts and I've already been sigged! I wonder if that's a record...

Anyways, keep the stories coming because so far they have been hilarious!

This was like one of the things that the legendary dwarves used in the fortresses long ago. In the Legends. Instead of weapons, they used misc. objects. Countless battles were won by dwarves slinging leather backpacks and metal greaves at their enemies, bashing them for far longer than anyone has ever seen.

Also, unarmed person + wrestling grabs and options + random RNG = hello new weapons and armor!

Grab anything off anyone, but not neutrals or friendlies or they will kill you.

I had a pet dinosaur in a dodge-em deathtrap. It was fond of sweet sweet tunic murder.

I feel the pain of your fortress members. Did you win the fight in adventure mode? Haha

I thought I could grab throats with a wielded rope but there isn't much to do with ropes in the current vanilla adventure mode unfortunately. Complex defenestrations, noose creation, constructing gallows, binding unconscious idiots, taming and leashing horrible monsters, snares, tripwires, abseiling off a haunted cliff, iron goblin citadel or deep into an abandoned cave (don't let a crone cut it with her crone knife) would all be swell. Currently I guess you just bonk people with them until a million billion other things get done.

A bronze colossus once punched a random dwarf, knocking him on his ass and putting him out cold, then he "wrestled" the dwarf's cap away and killed a bunch of dwarves with it before he got his head hacked off by the military.

I had my pinky toe torn off once. Then the marsh titan caved my skull in with it.

I had a dwarf kill a goblin with the goblin's own loincloth once. That was hilarious.

Hilarious? I think I need brain bleach. And suddenly remembering that locker room scene from Porky's is not helping. ::)

I would guess this odd behavior comes from the fact that wrestling things away gives you control of them and puts them in your had, whether clothing or weapon. The AI doesn't seem to bother with dropping any of these items, too, so it just keeps fighting on even if that elf panty is far worse than his adamantine sword, steel shield or just pure dwarven fists of fury.

I totally came into this thread expecting complaints about silver weapons (all the cool bandits have them in my world)... Never again will I use my sword... I must use someones arm...

I once used a bogeyman's head as a sort of medusa thing. Unfortunately it melted after the fight :(

One of my favourite adventures, Damin Acemourn, used the leg of his fallen companion as a weapon.

Another, Desi VI Avedmafol wielded a jaguar corpse, among other things.

Well on genesis mod they added new certain body parts. So I decided to become the most sick and gruesome elf that even Armok would look away in disgust. I would rip off phallus, didn't matter who or what..big or small, intelligent being or animal. I would then put them in my backpack as a collection, but not before I would use them as a weapon of mass destruction! I even destroyed an entire town with dual wolf phallus (and a third wolf phallus in my mouth that I didn't notice until later.) I eventually got weighed down by all the phallus and died to boogeymen.

Edit: fixed a small typo.

It appears there is such a thing as too much phallus...

I think defenestrations are possible. I *think* - don't hold me to it.

If a Building Destroyer smashes the window, and then you charge at an enemy and he 'dodges backward' into the newly vacated space, you've defenestrated him I guess.

Defenestrate is a verb meaning 'To throw out of a window'.

Thank you for using my favorite word and telling me how to defenestrate in DF.

Now I only need to figure out how to be in adventure mode near a building destroyer and a window...
all at the same time... ???

Also, I've remembered some of my other miscellanious weapon stories

first their was a time when I just had a character with most of his points in throwing and the rest in spearman. At one time he was at a bandit camp and managed to kill one bandit. I decided to pick up the corpse and throw it at another person, imagine my suprise when I read the line "the (insert name here)'s corpse is imbeded in the wound!"

My other story involved a swordsman who got very good at decapitating. So I took one of the heads and used it to crush in the heads of the sleeping townsfolk. When I looked back at the character in legends he had about 100 kills with "a body part."

A.Mod bronze collosi to be in shrines. I'm assuming they have windows?
B.Somehow get a bronze collosi to your fort, make sure he goes into a large tower with lots of windows, get all your guys killed, go there as an adventurer.

I've already seen collosi in shrines, but shrines are only squares of smooth ground with pillars of various lengths sticking out of them. I guess I'll have to stick to creating a giant tower, but it's worth it!
