Title: Dark Fortress: Reign of the Blackened [6/6]
Post by: Dark One on March 30, 2019, 02:04:39 pm
Dark Fortress
Reign of the Blackened

It is both horrifying and peculiar that the ruler of the tainted with darkness and evil eastern wastes does not reach out towards the rest of the world with his cold, undead hands. This silence before the storm is dreadfully unsettling, yet at the same time interesting to many. Some concluded that the darkness is content with its own rotten chunk of the world, but at which point an eternal one may be satisfied? Others pondered whether the leader of the damned is still existen or not, but how may die the one who is eternal? One thing is sure - there were no signs of hostility from the blackened land for years. Even the abysmal monsters inhabiting that land do not stray too far from it. Many encampments were built around the land with a towering fortress in the middle of it, not for guarding borders, but for the purpose of disposing waste and prisoners sentenced to death, as what will enter the dark perimeter cannot return. Such is the will, of the dark ones.

Just wondering, Faker: why, precisely, did you use a scantily clad woman to illustrate a knight?

It covers plenty! This is what I wear to fight water monsters. It's important to maintain your armour to prevent rust. And taking baths helps prevent monsters from smelling your location.  8)

I concur with Glass. That picture does not represent anything or anyone that might be reasonably given the title of "knight".

On a different note, have another mystic. In my defense, when I started writing this, Glass's spoiler said his class was a Knight not a Mystic.

...the very first thing I had done when making the post was putting all the equipment and abilities for a Mystic. I was never planning to play a Knight.

If I was going to be using any other class, it would have been the Lost Wanderer.

Perhaps you had been cutting and pasting things into the spoiler? Either way, unless I'm going insane you had "Class: Knight" in that spoiler when I first opened this tab and starting brainstorming.

Additionally, I do not feel dirty for having looked at it, and do not feel embarrassed to have it visible on my computer screen.

I mean, personally I don't really have a problem if you get shot, burned, impaled, or laughed to death because of your silly original thought on what your character would wear into battle.

In addition, you seem to be conflating "enjoyment of history and dislike for ridiculous caricatures" with "caring about what picture you chose any further than making a joke or three about its ridiculousness".

Oh, and the new picture has the following problems: The sword is too heavy, the shield is too heavy (and made entirely of metal! That's not how you make a shield unless it's a buckler), that armored collar thing around the neck will make it impossible to look up or down, the lack of armor on the upper arms is STUPID, the bracers don't extend far enough up the lower arm to be meaningfully protective, the spikes on the legs are stupid, the breastplate is not only shaped ridiculously but also extends down too far (thus making you unable to bend at the waist which is actually important in combat), and the hanging cloth waistband thing is just going to trip you in combat.

There's more I'm sure, for instance the plates are probably too thick but I can't see that for absolute certain.

Dark Fortress
Reign of the Blackened

Prologue

Another dawn over the Bleak Valley. All the vegetation within its borders is completely covered with black ichor - the night must have been unusually violent and restless, as the nightly dark storms come with such intensity only when something of great importance is about to happen. The damned were silent throughout the whole night, giving all those living by the border of the pit a good night's sleep. Gazing upon this dark and withered scenery one could feel the weird charm of it - a sensation hard to describe or explain, yet clinging to one's soul for hours. The call of the Dark Ones is powerful, and it is rumored that they call only those, who are ready to undergo the beastly transformation.

However, the nature of the Wastes is even more powerful than the call of its rulers, and all those who dabble with arcane are especially influenced by it. Surely it is a time of great changes, the number of magicians, mystics, fortune tellers and wizards within the perimeter of Bleak Valley has never been so high.

Quinn Learner

After finding and speaking with literally all of the knowledgeable and skillful arcane scholars and magicians in the world, a pale man in dark grey robes finally set off towards the blackened wastes of the Bleak Valley. The infamous Black Archivist, as Quinn Learner was known by some, concluded that if he won't be able to squeeze any more information out of other arcanists, he has to conduct his own research, away from the safety of his study. Thus he approached the Bleak Valley from the north, spending the night in one of the borderline inns, and when the morning finally came, he passed through the barrier. There is no return now, even Gods can't break the spell keeping everyone inside the Bleak Valley. In front of him extends a path that leads deeper into the dreaded lands, its sides blocked off by unnaturally steep rock walls.

Quan

It was the last night in the damp, rotting cell within the dungeon of the Darkbog Citadel. All the hours of torture, pain, sorrow and malnutrition were about to end with Quan's first, and at the same time - last journey to the Bleak Valley. The sentenced were granted their only wish before their untimely death - the right to speak for the last time. Quan was travelling with people who tried to cross the border of the Northern Empire, a thief was among them. They have finally reached the Bleak Valley and guards brought them closer to a very deep pit. One by one, they were sent plummetting down to their deaths. it wasn't the fall that killed however - the monsters were doing it. Each and every one of the prisoners was brutally mauled by the blasphemous revenants once they hit the ground. As Quan was kicked, his orchard and previous life flashed before his eyes - then he fell on the ground and lost consciousness. He woke up next day, alive, covered with the black ichor and lying in a pool of blood. It wasn't his blood, and it seemed to look inhuman. There was something unusual about it.

Quan didn't know why he was left alive by the damned. He heard someone shouting in fury from above: 'I placed a bet that you'd die this night you muck eater!' it was one of the guards. Still bound by chains, Quan moved further into he Bleak Valley.

Leona Maple & Rainer Edmunton

She came from the east, with a noble goal and extreme bravery in her heart. Leona Maple, accompanied by her mysterious companion, Rainer Edmunton finally reached the Bleak Valley, the heart of darkness they both swore to destroy. The wandering knights descended down a dilapidated tower and following a straight path, they moved forward towards the blackened land. The couple reached a place where they had to split however, and the dark magic of the land ensured to split them for good. Leona found herself back in the tower, while Rainer moved towards a pit used to drop off the sentenced.

Morion

Many years have passed since Morion started to study the arcane. Many years of dissapointment and pain. Led by jealousy, the pale and gaunty man set off towards the Bleak Valley, the dreaded land of dark spirits, revenants and black ichor. His tenacity only increased, when he found out that The Black Archivist is going to be among the beasts as well. It was his chance to finally gain all the power he was after, and so he came from the west, from where he could clearly see the Dark Fortress.

Demir

Demir escaped from the bandits that attacked his caravan. He had no sense of direction whatsoever, he was led by his survival instinct. However, this untamed strength led him into even worse situation - he ended up within the accursed lands. He spent the night in a relatively safe cavern, and when he woke up and left it, he had no idea where he was. All Demir knew was that the death is waiting for him at every corner of this dreadful land!

Turn 1

Quinn Learner

'Nowhere to go but forwards.' thought Quinn.

[6] As he moved on along the path, a sudden current of energy opened in front of him and teleported him elsewhere!

[2] Quinn found himself on a tiny island in the middle of a lake of boiling tar!

Demir

[4] Demir looked around the surrounding area and discovered a village that is seemingly untouched by the curse of this land! It seems that the place is inhabited by ordinary people as well!

Leona Maple

[6] Leona looked around to find someone who could give her some quests. Suddenly a strange man in black armor approached her and said: 'There is someone within the lands that seekd to abuse its power for the sake of evil. His skin is pale, his hair is black and reaches down to his ears, and his eyes are a piercing green. His robes are a dark grey like storm clouds, but the lining is colored in silver. Find him, and you shall be rewarded!' the figure said and then disappeared.

Quan

[4] Feeling unnatural thirst, Quan set off to find a source of water. Any water, even contaminated with the blac ichor. However, he managed to find a stream of crystal clear water not far away from the place he was dropped off! He took a few sips and was immediately refreshed!

Rainer Edmunton

'Is there anyone alive here?' Rainer shouted hoping to meet someone alive.

[4] Rainer shouted, but received no response. Moving on, he saw a sentenced prisoner drinking water from a stream of clear water.

Morion

[6] Morion approached the barrier and tried to attune with its power to sense those who built it. He has got an immediate response - a lightning bolt hurled his way!

[4] The bolt hit him, but did not hurt Morion. In fact, it establisged a connection between him and the one who keeps this part of the barrier running. He has to go to the north if he wants to find the gatekeeper!

Quinn Learner

'...well then.' Quinn summarised and looked around. He was on a lone patch of land in the middle of a lake of boilong tar that's placed in a deep pit. There were no physical chances of escape.

[6] Quinn pondered over the wave of energy that brought him there. Its patterns were mysterious and unusual, and he couldn't exactly grasp the interactions between them. Then he felt it again, from within the lake. He stared at it with confusion, when suddenly a gigantic greatworm emerged from within it with a huge splash!

'It is socially required for you to kneel before me, but I understand that you are a newcomer here!' the red-scaled monstrosity with two bladed tentacles said.

'Now listen to me carefully, for this knowledge will be valuable for your survival. The Bleak Valley is in great turmoil. The Great King Quothron, while still holding tremendous power over other lands, isolated himself in his fortress for reasons unknown. The expansion of the Valley ceased. The dukedom of the undead fell apart and now those ravenous creatures wander throughout the whole Valley as their duke is no more. The Dread Knights of the east rise into power and soon their leader may try to usurp the power from Quothron's hands. The wraiths of the west remain neutral, stating their independence from the king. So here we are, in The Charred Realm, and I consider what shall I do with you.' the worm explained the political situation in the Bleak Valley.

[2] 'You have just arrived in the Valley and yet your presence already causes great distress. Fearing that the king sent for you, the Dread Knights set a bounty on your head and convince adventurers roaming their lands to find and kill you. I could give you out to them and request some of their territory, but I have a proposition for you. Pledge your allegiance to the Tar, become an agent within my covenant and you shall be both safe and powerful. If not, I will let you rot on this burning chunk of soil until the dread knights will come to rip your heart out!

Rainer Edmnunton & Quan

'Hello, sir. It's good to see another living face around here.' Rainer greeted the man, as he walked over and took a drink from the spring after all, pure water would probably be hard to find in the future.

[5] The water was unusually clear and refreshing! After drinking it, Rainer found a small blue gem in his hand.

[3] Quan backed up almost immediately, he was caught off guard and wasn't very trusting of the stranger. 'Who are you and where did you come from, who do you work for?'

'My name is Rainer Edmonton, I'm from a minor fishing village, and I serve the concepts of justice and honor' Rainer replied, then he glanced at the man's chains. 'Though I suppose either you don't agree with my beleifs, or whoever put those on you doesn't.' he added.

Leona Maple

That is an exceedingly insufficient explanation. What would you want me to do if I were to accept your offer?
Additionally, try to judge if the danger from the boiling tar is purely physical or if there is a magical component, and how far the shore appears to be.

Leona draws her sword, sees the army of spirits and sheathes it, sprinting towards the village and entering the fortifications to join its defenders in protecting the village at any cost!

Quan & Rainer Edmunton

This should do good enough to get these chains off! said Quan.

[5] With one powerful swing, he broke his chains!

[1] ”I’m sorry, but consider it a donation to allow others to survive here,” Rainer apologized to the corpse as he began to search it for any more loot. As he touched the body, it started twisting and moving! The corpse opened its eyelids - its eyes were glowing purple. With a low booming voice it said: 'A noble and brave knight, on the service of justice aren't you? What does your codex say about disturbing the dead, huh? I curse thee! For the remainder of your life all the food you will touch will turn into maggots, and all the water into urine!' - the corpse muttered and fell dead.

'That is an exceedingly insufficient explanation. What would you want me to do if I were to accept your offer?'

[3] 'You will be granted the power to control tar and fire, and no creatures undead, dread or dark will harass you, for you will be one of us. In exchange, you will be one of my spies and will keep an eye on the affairs of other kingdoms, the Dread Knighrs especially!' the greatworm explained.

[1] Quinn looked at the lake of tar. It seemed that the danger was fully physical, but there was something unusual about it.

[4] The shore is not that far away. And it seems that there is a single root growing off the edge that he could use to climb up.

Leona Maple

"What's going on??" Leona shouts.

[2] She ran towards the gates, but fell on the ground!

[5] The spirits were still far away, so one of the city guards ran to take her to the fortifications! When they were safe he said: 'You had a lot of luck! Churchbury is under the Underworld siege!

Morion

'Sure. Show me how to escape the barrier unharmed and I will be glad to leave.' Morion replied.

[6] 'The body cannot cross the barrier, but the spirit may. Leave your mortal vessel and join us, or head westwards!' the spirit hissed, its eyes were glowing deep purple.

Morion

'Sounds great, but I happen to like having a body.' Morion replied and headed westwards.

[2] He mistook the directions and moved directly towards the land of the dark spirits, the realm full of shadows and menacing ghosts of the past!

Rainer Edmunton & Quan

'Mio grande signore, il tuo umile servitore ti implora di purificare la mia forma di questa maledizione e di condurmi a percorsi piů sicuri in futuro.' Rainer prayed to his patron god to remove the curse.

[5] His god listened to his prayers and removed the horrible curse!

Rainer: Curse Removed
[3] Quan started looking for a branch which he could use as a handle for an improvised maul or hammer. He found a relatively thick stick which seemed sturdy enough to survive several blows.

Demir

Demir: 4-4-4-3
Zombie1: 1-[4-2]-4-5
Zombie2: 1-[5-2]-3-6

((Zombies have a -2 to speed attribute when chasing for prey/rolling against escape rolls.))

Demir easily outran the sluggish corpses!

[5] He got to the village in no time and knocked to the doors of one of the buildings without thinking twice! A lizard made of raw crystal opened the door and hissed out: 'Massster! We have a vissssitor!'

[5] 'Marvelous! Let him in!' said a powerful sounding voice from within the cottage.

Quinn Learner

'“I would be one of you”? Now what’s that supposed to mean?' Quinn inquired.

[4] 'Those who make a covenant with one of the forces of the Bleak Valley received their otherworldly spark. Their bodies and energies adapt internally, without changing their physical appearance. As a result of the spark residing within you, you will be able to fully comprehend the energies of the covenant and bend it to yor will.' the greatword replied and stated: 'Enough of this banter. You have to choose right now!'

[3] Rainer quickly thought whether his ethereal form would allow him to get safely to the shore. He concluded that it is largely up to luck, as there are numerous conditions that can quickly interfere - such as the greatworm.

Leona Maple

'These look like solid defenses. I hesitated while retreating, because I wanted to fight. I suppose my feet tripped because I want to be on the battlefield.' - Leona bluffed - 'The forces of evil won't enter these walls while I'm here. They dare not attack us at day. The excitement has banished my fatigue. I will stay up all night.'

[3] Leona patrolled the fortifications for three hours straight, but nothing really happened during that time. She fell asleep and rested until nightfall.

Code: [Select]

Rainer: Curse Removed
Quan: Found Sturdy Stick
Leona: Well Rested

GM Notes

Sturdy Stick - a relatively thick branch of an unknown tree. It seems sturdy enough to serve as an improvised weapon, or as a resource to create one.

"How long has the siege endured?"
After worrying about logistics, Leona retrieves the magical tome that brought her here.

"...very well. One condition, however: how I do my job will be purely my own decision. You may give me goals to accomplish, but attempting to force me to go about something in a specific manner will render your authority over me null and void. Should this condition be accepted, then your offer shall be, as well." - Quinn said.

[5] "Excellent choice my friend! I give you complete freedom over how you achieve your goals and hereby proclaim you one of the Tar!" - the Greatworm exclaimed and grabbed Quinn. In an instant it infused his body with a strange energy, the same that is powering the lake. Quinn felt stronger, much stronger than before!

Rainer Edmunton & Quan

”Ok then,” Rainer said to Quan, as he moved to the source of the spring water ”next time we find a body, you can loot it, while I pray for your soul.”

[2] The waterskin caught up quite a lot of mud due to Rainer's clumsiness!

"I don't mind but can i borrow a knife or something?" Quan asked, to which Rainer replied: "I don't think I have a knife on hand, sorry. Check the body."

[1] "Thought a wealthy fellow like you would have an extra blade" the sentenced remarked going to the body to check it. The corpse immediately started twisting and turning, the undead spoke with a low-booming voice: "How many times do I have to teach you this lesson!?"

The corpse got up and started growing! Two enormously long hands protruded from its back and its chest burst open, revealing a maw full of razor-sharp teeth! "I will feast upon your souls!" the disturbed shouted!

Demir

"Zombies are chasing me!" Demir yelled running into the cottage.

[2] "Quite unfortunate." replied the owner of the cottage - a lich in exquisite robes ornamented with stars and occult symbols.

[4] You should rest first, and tomorrow we will speak! - it said while the crystal lizard prepared a bed for Demir.

Leona Maple

[6] "How long has the siege endured?" Leona wondered patrolling the fortifications. She went to an officer in charge of the defenses and took a book out of her backpack. "This book transported me here when I opened it. Perhaps you can make use of it. I am on a journey to vanquish evil and found the book atop a rock within the vile Blackened Land, with no signs of weathering..!" Leona wanted to give it to the officer, but the book just faded out of existence in her hand!

[3] "You've been taken prisoner by the book! You cannot possess it, as you are literally inside it, like everyone of us! A rumor says that the book belonged to a legendary magician, Nmngubgu Sugnta!" the officer said.

Morion

"Oops. I guess I need to remember to keep track of directions better. Ah well, I'm sure there are interesting things here, too." Morion thought.

[6] He detected an unusual trace of energy and followed it to learn something new, but he was teleported away just out of the blue!

[6] He found himself in front of an undead abomination with four hands and a chest-maw full of teeth, there were two other adventurers behind him. "That was unexpected! You may leave and save yourself puny one, this is between me and those two mortals!"

Quinn, feeling his new power, begins working them toward preparation.

Attempt to:
-Create a tar whip weapon, to take with me
-Encase my staff in tar
-Put tar into the fabric of my robes, such that I may draw it from them when needed. They should become longer, and much darker; however, the heat of the tar will be focused on the silver lining and various lunar imagery, making them a bright fire-orange against the black.

Then, once that's done, I'm off to leave this tarpit.

The Greatworm put Quinn back on the island. The mystic felt that the power he received changed him, made him much stronger! He no longer felt afraid of fire, and sensed the energies flowing through tar, and partially through the flames.

[3] The mystic received a weak resistance to dark energy!

[2] The Greatworm did not give him any additional equipment!

"Now, it is time for your first task. Scout the border between Tar and the domain of dread knights. Take your time to prepare well!" with that said, the Greatworm submerged in tar.

...well, the item you've chosen to inhabit is a shield, so I can give you no guarantees as to what may happen should I find myself in a combat situation; I will be using it to block strikes, after all. In other situations, however, I do promise to be careful with it and you.
And what do you mean, "pet and companion"?

And let's be on our way, to wherever we're going. Maybe hopefully in the direction of the border with the dread knights.

Leona takes cover from projectiles and shouts, "Enemy archer!"

She wields her sword and listens to detect any dark spirits near the wall. (If they try to climb over it, I stab 'em! If they float over it, I look for a bow/javelins.)

Turn 9

Quinn Learner

"...well, the item you've chosen to inhabit is a shield, so I can give you no guarantees as to what may happen should I find myself in a combat situation; I will be using it to block strikes, after all. In other situations, however, I do promise to be careful with it and you. And what do you mean, "pet and companion"?"

[6] "You seem to be new in the covenant, so I'll explain a few things to you. I am a tarlord, my name matters not. I am ranking higher than the greatworm of the lake, though I am not the king of these lands. I have chosen your shield to be a vessel for my avatar until it gains enough energy to travel on its own. Due to this, I will not give you orders, but I will watch upon you as I watch upon my pets. And the companion means that I offer you help in exchange of your care over my avatar." - the tarlord said.

[1] Without further ado, Quinn moved on towards the land of dread knights. "I know a quicker route to your destination!" - the tarlord exclaimed and summoned tar, which teleported them into an outpost of dread knights, right into the meeting hall. The dread knights gave Quinn confused looks.

Demir

"What is your name Mr. Lizard, and may I inquire about who your master is and what he is like?"

[3] "Of course. My name is" - the lizard gave out an unsettling, metallic screech - "But my master calls me Lizard or Lizardman. He is a lich and a high ranking official of the Dark Fortress, currently he's on holidays. Do you wish to know something more? Or perhaps you need food and beverages?" - Lizard asked.

Leona Maple

Leona took cover from projectiles and shouted "Enemy archer!"

[1] She unsheathed her sword and prepared herself to stab any dark spirits trying to climb up the walls. However, it seems that her definition of a dark spirit is rather wrong, as a screaming phantasm just phased through the walls and floated up to her!

Morion

[6] Morion found it annoying that everything in the /bleak Valley tries to kill, enslave, or shove magic down his throat. Irritated, he moved away from the corpse and the other two and stumbled upon a strange glowing dagger lying on the ground.

Code: [Select]
Morion: Found an Enchanted Dagger

Quan & Rainer Edmunton

"Thank you kindly for not killing me Sir, now knight we should find some berries to eat or at least something like a rabbit" - Quan said and went in search of food.

"Yes, you deal with food, I'll deal with water." - the knight replied.

[4] He found an apple tree with really tasty looking fruits. He picked some and returned to Rainer.

Code: [Select]
Quan: Picked 12 Apples
[6] In the meanwhile, the knight cleaned the waterskin and a ring dropped out of it. He felt that there is some beneficial enchantment placed on it, but he couldn't tell what it was.

Rainer: Found an Enchanted Ring

Turn 10

Quan & Rainer Edmunton

[4] "You know how rare it was to even get fruit while being locked up, you usually get moldy bread with some watery soup!" Quan said and took a huge bite of one of the apples, he instantly felt refreshed and satiated! Then he handed three apples to Rainer.

[2] "I can't say I know first hand, but that does make sense." Rainer said trying to fill the waterskin with the crystal clear water from the spring. The water just passed through it and started glowing emerald.

Code: [Select]
Quan: Refreshed.
Rainer: Enchanted Spring revealed.

Morion

[4] Morion grabbed the dagger and stabbed a nearby tree stump. Nothing happened for a moment after the strike, but then thousands of tiny green spiders were summoned out of the blue and started biting the stump until it was no more!

Code: [Select]
Morion: Ravenous blade of Arachnids - a combat dagger giving a strong green glow
[Mark of Arachnids [1d100 damage], ??, 24 Physical Damage, 30 Durability

Leona Maple

Code: [Select]
Leona: 3,4,6,1
Phantasm: 6,6,6,6

Leona attempted to slash and stab the dark spirit, but her blade just phased through it! The phantasm yelled again and started growinh bigger and bigger, until it was the size of Churchbury itself!

Code: [Select]
Leona: -10 End

Quinn Learner

"Um. Damnit." Quinn whispered.

[4] Quinn used reached for the power within him and detected a sorce of energy nearby, which allowed him to etherealise!

[4] He could leave the outpost without any problems. In fact, all the dread knights seemed to be even more baffled and confused by this awkward situation!

Demir

"Some food and a cold drink would be nice, and what is this town we're in?"

[6] "I can't really tell you about this place. It used to be one of the many human settlements. As foe rhe food and drink, I think I would have to summon something for you."

[3] With Lizard's wave of a tail, a platter with a crudely roasted turkey and grapes appeared on a table, a tankard of cold beer was summoned alongside. "Enjoy!"

GM Notes

Enchanted Spring - Water from such string can't be stored, but it restores health and endurance, and removes curses. In addition, the spring spawns water stones.

Demir's roasted Turkey - It seems that this bird was taken alive from its realm and burnt on its way to the platter, it still has plumes in several places!
[Restores 10 HP, decreases endurance by 5.]

Mark of Arachnids - A horrifying curse summoning thousands of venomous arachnids to bite whatever the curse was placed upon.

Turn 11

Morion

[4] Morion placed the dagger on a rock and ensured that it'd lie in a stable position. Then he made a step back, stretched out his hands and channeled energy through the weapon. He felt how his power clashed against the curse, sending shivers up his spine. Slowly but steadily, Morion overcame the arachnid enchantment and connected with the spirit hiding with it! Not only he identified the full power of the dagger, but also found out how to create spells from it!

Code: [Select]
Morion:
Ravenous blade of Arachnids - a combat dagger giving a strong green glow.
[Mark of Arachnids [1d100 damage, on use] 18 Dark Damage, 24 Physical Damage, 30 Durability]

New Skill:
Venomous Bite - Summons missiles looking like spider-like fangs and shoots them at the target. Deals 24 physical damage, 32 dark damage and poisons [4 damage per turn] target for 2 turns. 4 turns cooldown.

New Ability:
Summon Darkfang - Summons a powerful giant spider for 2 turns, 4 turns cooldown]

Demir

[1] As Demir approached the platter with food, the turkey voilently jumped off of it and tried to attack him!

[5] Thankfully, Lizard used his powers to banish it away and summoned an edible one this time, which the wanderer ate.

Code: [Select]
Lizard's Masterful Turkey: This bird must've been teleported through several dimensions and different conditions before it ended on a platter. As such, its preparation is truly otherworldly.
[Restores 20 HP, decreases max endurance by 10 for 2 turns]

Demir: Well Fed [Regenerates 5HP per turn], max endurance decreased

"May I take a walk after the meal? You know to like help me digest it." Demir asked the Lizard.

[5] "Of course! I can show you an excellent sightseeing location that is just an hour away from my master's abode!" he replied.

Quinn Learner

"Please, if you're going to teleport me, warn me first, and let me know where we're going. That was the second time I've been teleported without knowing what was going on, and I'm worried that the next time it happens, I'll get killed." Quinn remarked and tarlord replied: "It won't happen next time. It would take only a few hours before my spawn finally attunes to your energy and you will gain more control over it. Naturally, this comes at a price of being spiritually linked with it, meaning that should it get hurt, you will suffer as well."

[1] Before Quinn could hide anywhere a squad of dread knights ran out of the outpost!

[5] "Hey, you over there! You must be the Black Archivist! Know that we cannot hurt you, as the rule of the king of Bleak Valley forbids fights between covenants. We will let you leave freely, but be warned - foolish adventurers who enter the valley are not bound by this law and will chop your head off just for a tiny bit of power!" yelled one of them.

Quan & Rainer Edmunton

"Sir knight could I borrow your sword to cut my hair? It is very inconvenient to have long hair like this." inquired Quan. "Certainly, but I need you to do me a favor. I'm going to put this ring on, and I'm afraid it's cursed. If stuff goes wrong, I'm going to need you to do all in your power to force the spring water down my throat." Rainer said and prepared himself.

[6] Rainer put on the ring and instantly saw realities flashing before his eyes, then everything became normal. Suddenly a fiery portal opened in front of him from which a mysterious skinny man walked out. A little bit taller than average, with red hair and a general look that might be called "elfish", instead of skin he had small white scales, and his face was stretched into a dragon-like snout. Snout scales are red, with yellow and orange streaks are scattered across his face. Scales on his feet are green, and there are grass-like hair on them.

[3] "Fear not, for I am a friend." Rainer and Quan could hear immense power in his voice. "My name is Aaron Blaze, and I have noticed you when you were lost, transitioning between the realms of time and space. The curse on this ring is of unbreakable nature for elements of your world, but it was just a tiny spark for me. I have changed the curses placed upon it into blessings, as well as gave you a possibility to summon me for advice." Aaron stopped for a moment. It was a really long time since he walked on the ground like mortals do. "That is not all." he continued "Do you happen to know what Undead Hunt is? Let me explain this phenomenon. It is a cataclysmic event that opens the gates of the Underworld, awakens ancient undead and brings false gods from heavens at the same time, all around the world. Now, why would this happen? The chains of creation, wearing down and falling to entropy, starting a cataclysmic cleanse which makes the chains weaker and weaker. All this because the one who created primal concepts withered away... Alas, that is not true. Once I was freed from my mortal coil and ascended, I broke free and was able to travel far beyond. And after enough travelling, I had to face the truth which was much more grim than what I have thought. Undead Hunts happening all over other universes, dimensions and timelines! Again and again, harvesting tremendous amounts of power! I have followed traces the energy left after being absorbed, and they led me to an omnipresent and insanely power being at the center of all things!" he stopped again to think. "While the soul of the narrator, who binds spacetime and weaves the fabric of reality may stop certain worlds in time, such as in Churchbury, this won't hapen here. What is more, the Undead Hunt in your world was meant to happen years ago, but something from within the Dark Fortress of this valley is preventing it. There are forces in motion that seek to break these shackles and bring the Hunt. You must head to the center of Bleak Valley, to the Dark Fortress and defend it lest an eternal doom will be brought upon this world! Beware of Dread Knights - the pawns of Dark, and Tarlords - descendants of fire and brimstone. Go now, and do not waste time!" with that he disappeared, leaving a trail of fire in the sky.

Code: [Select]
Rainer:
Aaron's Claw - a silver ring with a brown gem.
[Summon Aaron Blaze [Only for advice, no other restrictions], +1 to rolls when HP is below 10, +1 to finding loot

The tar shield is indestructible with my spawn within it. The shakes of combat would only make it uncomfortable for a moment, which we want to avoid." replied the tarlord. Quinn expressed his understanding and started searching for a source of energy.

[6] He detected a source of great power behind a large boulder. He was about to inspect it, but his tarlord warned him: "Stop! It's not a source of energy! It must an enemy mystic trying to lure you!"

Morion

[6] The pale mystic was overwhelmed by enthusiasm and decided to find something more to comprehend. He sensed strange power coming from a small greenish mushroom growing beneath a tree stump. Rainer Edmunton & Quan

"...ok, I’m not going to lie, that was absolutely awesome!", "It was quite interesting indeed" said both Rainer and Quan looking at the sky.

[1] The knight decided to look for some loot. He found a rotting corpse and approached it, then heard: "What did I just tell you!? Do not loot corpses!" yelled the Disturbed.

[3] "This is your last chance kniggit!" said the undead.

[4] Quan borrowed a sword from Rainer and made himself a truly fantastic haircut! It literally changed his appearance from a dirty thief to a noble man!

Subturn 1

Iolani & Unfghe Ihytgz

A young woman with light brown complexion and wavy, black hair just entered the Bleak Valley. Iolani, as this was her name, used her connections several weeks ago and set on a lone journey to the east. She approached the Valley from the north after several detours. Iolani went down a small gorge and saw a bald man with a long silver beard and bright red eyes. It seemed that he already spent a while in this place. "It's good to finally meet someone in this accursed place! My name's Unfghe Ihytgz." he said and they moved inwards the Valley together.

Quan & Rainer Edmunton

[5] Quan used his cut hair to make a binding for a makeshift hammer. He ensured that the handle and rocks he picked up were of finest quality! Additionaly, he felt a strange spark upon consctructing it. As if he imbued it with power...

[4 +1] Rainer decided to find some more useful items, this time specifically away from any corpses. There was no need to look far - someone dropped some trash into the valley and mistakenly dropped a small pouch. "Tbq qnzavg! Zl pelfgnyf!" yelled the furious man. "Abj V jba'g trg vg onpx!" he hissed out and left. Rainer took the pouch and opened it. He found several transparent crystals with pinkish tint. He heard that they were used for many rituals, including short-distance teleportation.

Code: [Select]
Quan: Makeshift Rock Hammer - A crude weapon made out of hair, a sturdy stick and a rock, yet there is something unusual about it...
[?, 12 physical damage, 24 durability]

Rainer: Pouch of catalyst crystals
[12 crystals]

Morion

[6] Morion grabs his dagger and unleashes its power to summon Darkfang! The enormous spider instantly appears in front of him "Finally free! Are you the one that summoned me mushroom boy?" the spider hissed out approaching the mushroom giant. The monstrosity nodded and pointed at the mystic!

[5] The spider turned back and looked at terrified Morion holding the dagger in a lousy combat stance. "You bloody liar! That man is the summoner! I'll rip your head off and lay eggs inside it!"

Code: [Select]

[Mushroom Giant: 2, 4, 1, 3]

Without further ado, the giant spider ran up to the mushroom giant and grabbed it with two of its legs, then proceeded to ripping the mushroom's head off. Once done, Darkfang indeed layed eggs within the decapitated body, turned to Morion and said: "You don't even know how much time I spent in that dagger. Summon me more often, you hear me?" then it teleported back into the dagger.

Code: [Select]
Darkfang & Morion: +32 Experience

Quinn Learner

[6] Quinn tried to stay away from the boulder and identify the threat, but with every backward step he moved closer to the stone! He quickly realized that it's an illusion and the enemy never even was behind the stone! "Ah, so you already found out! Excellent, now we can make this even more entertaining!" a man with a high pitched voice said mockingly.

"How could I get so deceived? It must be the limitation of my current form!" said the tarlord.

Demir

[3] The wanderer took the opportunity to look for anything that stands out. An enormous fortress in the middle of the Valley was the most obvious thing, but he also noticed several tents and buildings around the valley's borders, the great lake of tar in the other end and a neighboring citadel of Dread Knights.

"Do you enjoy the view?" Lizard asked.

Iolani & Unfghe Ihytgz

"If there are any issues, I'll take care of them--and by that I mean anything that wants to harm us. I don't know your skills but that's my forte. How've you been living out here in the valley?" The mysterious man did not reply.

[2] Iolani wanted to move further, but Unfghe did not move.

The enemy cackled. "Illusionist is a term for all those puny street maggots using sparks to get the change out of brainless masses." He stopped for a moment and shouted "I, Illraniur the Great am no mere illusionist! I've been looking for a worthwhile opponent for a long time! Do not disappoint me Black Archivist!"

[muttering] I haven’t even been here a damned day...

An illusionist is a worker of illusions. Which you quite clearly are.

Swing my whip around me. I can’t be certain that his voice is actually coming from where it seems to be, but even if I don’t hit him hard, if I hit him, I’ll know where he is.
I can even let some of the tar on my whip stay on him, so I can sense it.

((Can't I just...scavenge from the surroundings. This is sapping x.x))

Make shelter and use the environment for our protection. Try to find some herbs, wood, and other things--using my knife as a tool and elsewise, and return to the wanderer who is probably doing stuff while their player isn't posting.

Or lead the way and use their knowledge as support. Finding a better place to rest with basic survival needs met for continued exploration is the first priority.

Turn 14

Evening [1]

Morion

[5] Morion found an abandoned shack near the path he was currently following. He checked it twice using both physical and arcane means, and he found out that no one visited this place in a really long time. He should be completely safe here!

Quinn Learner

Quinn got out his whip and held his shield out defensively. "Who are you, illusionist?" he asked.

"I haven’t even been here a damned day..." Quinn muttered angrily, then said: „An illusionist is a worker of illusions. Which you quite clearly are.”

[Illraniur: 6, 6, 3, 3]

The mystic started striking with his whip all around to find the position of the enemy, but the lashes kept coming back against him from the other side! „Fool! This is not a mere illusion!”

Code: [Select]
[Quinn: -15 HP]

Quan & Rainer Edmunton

[1] Quan wanted to find Rainer and saw him a short distance away. He also noticed that someone was staring at him from the shadows, waiting for the sun to go down.

[4] Rainer got back to Quan.

Iolani & Unfghe Ihytgz

[5] Iolani hastily scavenged for herbs, wood and other useful resources, from which she made a sturdy shelter!

[6] Unfghe approached Iolani and spoke with a strange, unnatural voice: My descendant is... unavailable right now. His mind... drifted away. Fear not, for I, Pguhyuh Sugnta will take care of him while he's not responding.

Go to sleep and think non-dangerous thoughts. Actually wait, can I summon the spider for an extended period of time? Cause then I'll summon the spider to guard me.

Shift to my tar-form, and send... not a tarball, more like a tar nova, out from where I am. At the same time, raise a tar wall around me so that if my attack is reflected, it won’t return to damage myself.

Evening [2]

Morion

[5] The mystic prepared a bed for himself and summoned the Darkfang to guard him during this time. Then he went to sleep. He had a dream about discovering a red orb in a cavern deep under the Bleak Valley, he felt in this dream that this should be his goal upon waking!

Quinn Learner

[2] Quinn wanted to turn into tar-form, but somehow he couldn't push himself enough to do it!

Code: [Select]
[Quinn: 3, 3, 5, 5]
[Illraniur: 6, 4, 2, 1]

The mystic instantly shot out a powerful nova of tar, raising a protective wall around himself at the same time. The tar from the nova started bouncing back and forth and pounding on the wall, until it reached a speed so high that it broke through the illusion! Quinn removed the wall to see where the enemy is and fond him encased in tar right in front of him!

Code: [Select]
Illraniur: Dead
Quinn: +1 kill, +256 Experience, Level up!

Iolani & Unfghe Ihytgz

Iolani nodded and listened to her new companion without prejudice--people were awesome and had many ways to say things.

[Iolani: 3, Unfghe: 5]

Unfghe stared at Iolani in confusion, before speaking with a normal voice: "...What? Did I just say something right now? Sorry, my memory's kinda hazy." They went scout the neighboring area. From Iolani's observations it was safe to stop there for now, and Unfghe found a sulphury nest of friendly implings! The demons greeted him warmly and gave him a clear, almost transparent crystal with a flame dancing inside of it, saying: "Human visit us! We give human a gift! Human need more charge, human give gift!"

Code: [Select]
Unfghe: Received Flamestone

Flamestone - A rechargable crystal with the power of flames enclosed within it.

Rainer Edmunton & Quan

[Rainer: 4, Quan: 2]

The knight and the sentenced left the drop-off area and finally moved on into the Valley to seek shelter. Quan couldn't find his way around and followed Rainer all the time. They found a nice cliff overhang, under which they moved some rocks and logs to build walls. After a while they had a makeshift shack built, and a fireplace lit inside.

Night [1]

Quinn Learner

[2] Quinn tried to use tarturgy to create a shelter from tar, but he couldn't do so now!

[6] He reached for Illraniur's body to search his equipment. Upon touching it he felt that his bag was insanely heavy and dense, as if it had an entire dimension hidden inside! He couldn't even lif it!

[4] Then the mystic attempted to study the traces of magic left behind the illusionist or those clinging to the body. He attuned to its frequency with ease and slightly adjusted it to match his own residue, which allowed him to absorb the energy and gain some understanding of it. As a result, Quinn is now able to use illusions to some extent!

Code: [Select]
Quinn: New ability
Illusionist's Spirit - Allows to perform low-scale illusions.

Rainer Edmunton & Quan

”We should stay inside. Anything you can think of to do while we wait?” Rainer asked. "We should come up with a effective night watch set up that will let us both get the required sleep we need." advised Quan. ”I’ll take the first shift, and I’ll wake you half way through the night to begin your shift.” Rainer decided and left the shack.

[5] As soon as he left, the night creatures spotted him and started running away, scattering everything that they had in their claws and jaws! It seemed that they were afraid of him for some reason!

Iolani & Unfghe Ihytgz

"Interesting creatures." Iolani mused as she watched the implings. "Are they local to the area because I've never experienced them before."  she said approaching the nest.

"Got any tools there? For woodcrafting and hunting? Know anything about the place? I'm ready to- uh, trade!"

[2] "Isssssaa night! We go hide! the implings yelled histerically and dived into sulphur.

[3] Iolani went back to scouting for civilization with Unfghe on her side, she couldn't see much in the darkness, but they could see some fireplace in the distance!

Night [1]

Morion

[1] Morion tired to detect some energy, but an enormous discharge occured and sent an electric wave that hurt him! It seems that there was a seal placed somewhere in this house!

Code: [Select]
Morion: -20 HP [20/40]
After everything settled down, Morion asked Darkfang where he comes from and how he ended up stuck inside a dagger. "I lived during the Age of Ancients, I was one of the giant arachnids of the north. We have just arrived on this continent and taken hold of all the northern shores and a fair deal of the land, but then the titans that already lived in the central part of the lands attacked! We have united with rising humanity to defeat them, but we lacked the power. As such, all the arachnids united into one powerful being - the Darkfang. This new being was unstable, so its soul was imbued into a dagger of one of the human kings." the spider replied. "I am no longer alive if you are wondering, I'm just a memory clinging to a soul enchanted into an item."

Night [3]

Quinn Learner

"Um. Hello?" the Black Archivist spoke into the bag.

[5] As Quinn pondered resting safely in his shelter, he figured out how Illraniur could possibly put the entire tavern into the bag - this item must bear an entire dimension within, or even two - one that is for storage, and another for access. What the illusionist probably did, was simply climbing up on the roof of the building and using the bag dimension's power to fit the entire building inside!

Code: [Select]
Quinn: Well Rested

Quan & Rainer Edmunton

[6] Quan desperately tried to defend himself and ran back towards Rainer, but suddenly a wyvern dripping with an unpleasantly smelling black ichor started hovering above him!

Code: [Select]
[Black Wyvern: 5, 3, 2, 6]
[Quan: 1, 3, 1, 3]

The beast piked down right at Quan - he was too slow to escape and lacked strength to deflect the attack, so the monstrosity caught him and soared with him up, flying towards its nest!

"Shit. Hey! Get away from him!" Rainer yelled in amok.

[1] He tried to scare the monsters away, but it didn't work at all! A swarm of dark wraiths rushed towards him!

Code: [Select]
[Dark Wraith Swarm: 1, 3, 2, 4]
[Rainer: 2, 6, 4, 1]

The swarm of dark spirits charged at the knight in an attempt to tear him apart, but he managed to just beraly dodge the onslaught.

Morion

[6] Morion rested some more. As soon as he fell asleep, he found himself atop a strange tower, just behind the fortifications. There was an incredibly huge, reeking nest nearby. He could see the entire Bleak Valley from this spot. Looking at his body, he saw that he was one of the abominations that lurk in the valley. He felt much stronger than an ordinary ghoul could ever be however. Looking at his armor, he noticed that he must be a member of this place's guards now. But what was this tower? Looking down, he saw that the building it was sprouting out of was a massive, heavily fortified and guarded fortress. Suddenly Morion heard footsteps, someone approached him from behind and placed his hand on his arm.

"First shift atop the observatory, eh?" asked an inhumanly pale old man in charred robes. His beard was long and was reaching down to his chest, and he carried a staff with a crystal that had a lightning imp trapped inside. "Hmmm, now that I look at you, I sense something unusual. Perhaps you still haven't fully recovered after the transformation, yet you must remember that you did it voluntarily, to aid the cause. Remember?" the mage spoke with father-like, warm voice. "Be watchful young man! For during the night, the beast come out and try to charge our fortress! Watch for the Black Wyvern, for it is an ally!" the old man said and went into his chamber. Morion woke up soon after.

Morion: Well Rested

Havoc

Cast out of his lands... Was it another manifestation of the astral calamity that fell on him since the day he was born, or just the fear of villagers? What is sure now, is that the slim, scarred man is frightfully lost within the land of darkness of death. Was it the so called Bleak Valley? The land where night calls forth the beasts of darkness, fire and plague? He had no time to think about it. If he won't find a shelter now, he would surely be killed. Afraid yet decided, Havoc continued his journey into peril.

Alzar

His white scales and greenish eyes gleam gently in the light of the Bastard Moons as he moves down the plains towards an unknown to him valley. He was one of the legendary lizard-folk, or at least that's how the slave hunters called him. His name was Alzar, and he wasn't an exceptional creature of legends and fairytales, but rather a man of flesh and bone, kidnapped by vile men while he was on a careless stroll. It wasn't his choice to travel throughout the land where he was called an aberration, but rather a neccessity. Alzar thanked his lucky star for freeing him from the unlawful carriage and allowing him to reunite with his tribe, but he didn't knew what awaits him down in the Bleak Valley.

Night [4]

Quan

[2] Quan tried to escape from the wyvern's grasp, but the clutches were too tight for him to move!

Quinn Learner

[4] Quinn stepped out of his shelter and managed to turn the bag so that it's hole was facing downwards, then raised it up with one swift move! In an instant, the entire building with all its patrons emerged in front of him!

Alzar

[6] Alzar pressed westwards searching for shelter from the dark. He shivered all the way, as the cold of the night was unbearable, and somehow unnatural. As he turned back, he noticed a cloud of fog following in the distance. As he stared at the unknown phenomena, it started taking humanoid shapes until he saw a two meters tall rotting corpse charging towards him!

[Fog Ghoul: 6, 5, 4, 5] | [Alzar: 5, 5, 6, 5]

The lizard wanderer reacted just in time and dodged the onslaught!

Rainer Edmunton

”Didn’t think I’d have to use this card so quickly.” Rainer held his sword into the air, willing it to give off low amounts of holy light. ”Hear me now, fiends of the night! I am a warrior for the crown of this land! I am one who fears not death nor failure! Release my comrade and flee before me, or I will cut you down, each and every last one of you!"

[5] The swarm of dark wraiths charged at Rainer regardless of the light coming out of his sword! The knight only put his right leg backwards and leaned his sword so the tip would face the dark spirits. Immediately after reaching the holy light, the dark wraiths dispersed and died! "Blessed be those of iron will!" Rainer heard from up above.

Morion

[3] Morion searched the house for anything of magical or physical value. After looking under all the nooks and crannies, he found pieces of a broken ruby.

Havoc

"Well this is just great"

[6] Havoc continued forward in search of shelter or any useful items. He fumbled in the dark, moving between trees and bushes, until he suddenly fell down into a grotto!

[5] After quite a long while of falling he was ready for certain death, but some strange arcane force grabbed his body and dragged him deeper underground until he ended up in front of two staircases. There were runic engravings on the walls of both. The runes on the right were illuminating the passage with red, green and blue, and the left shone with a fierce crimson color. Havoc heard a voice: "Here you will decide what will be you destiny. The path on the left, imbued with darkness, leads back into the valley, to a place hidden from monstrous reach, but inaccessible if you leave. Should you choose to go right, you will leave the valley and the messengers of light shall take you to safety."

Alzar knew he could not challenge the ghoul while the chill of night still held a firm grip on him, but he could stall for time so the sun could rise and warm him up. He focused on dodging the ghouls’s onslaught and keeping away from the cloud of fog, for fear it would further chill him and leave him truly helpless.

Turn 20

Morning [1]

Quinn Learner

[1] Quinn picked up the bag and stowed it, then enter the tavern. "Murderer!", "He murdered Illraniur!", "Get him, quick!" people screamed and charged! An enormous warrior in nothern armor weilding a runic war axe, a lanky mystic in southern robes, the innkeeping maiden, an eastern knight with a claymore and a peasant with a pitchfork - everyone charged!

[Axeman: 4, 1, 3, 5] [Sorcerer: 6, 3, 5, 4] [Maiden: 6, 6, 1, 6] [Knight: 5, 6, 3, 2] [Peasant: 1, 5, 6, 6] | [Quinn: 5, 3, 1, 2] [Tarlord: 6, 4, 6, 3]

Before Quinn could even react, they were all right in front of him and ready to strike, but the spawn of the tar lord left the shield and spewed a nova of tar, sparks and fire, lightly burning and pushing away anyone except for the maiden, who managed to block the attack!

"I am still not strong enough!" screeched the tar spawn!

Alzar

[4] Alzar knew he could not challenge the ghoul while the chill of night still held a firm grip on him, but he could stall for time so the sun could rise and warm him up. He focused on dodging the ghouls’s onslaught and keeping away from the cloud of fog, for fear it would further chill him and leave him truly helpless. Luckily for him, the rays of the rising sun penetrated the fog and reached its dreadful master, dispersing it and banishing the monstrosity till the next night!

Quan

[6] Quan tried to get out of the wyvern's grasp and climb on its back, but he couldn't grab it well due to the slippery ichor and started falling! Luckily for him, his leap had perfect timing and he landed on a thick, absorbing layer of hay... in wyvern's nest!

[5] "Ah, so you have finally arrived!" an old man in charred robes with a chest long beard greeted him. "I am sorry for the sudden inconvenience of your flight, but the Bleak Fortress has a certain request for the knight you are travelling with. Please, give him this map and letter, it will explain everything. We have a chamber prepared specially for you, with a little token of gratitude awaiting you there." with that said, the man brought Quan to his chamber.

The room was small and cozy, it had a bed, a table with several dishes that were just prepared and it had a small window from which and entire southern part of the valley could be seen. There was a little bundle and a set of armor laying on the bed. "When you finish resting, the wyvern would take you back to your companion." the old man said when leaving the chamber.

Havoc

"So I have a choice between somewhere that is temporary safe or sunshine and rainbows. Like my luck is ever that good.

[4] Havoc took the staircase that led back to the valley, using his ambush detection to check the path for traps. "Very well." the voice said. The path ahead of you is not laid out with enemies nor traps. It leads to a safe spot, which once exited cannot be entered again from outside the cavern. You will find a little trinket that will aid you in your efforts there. Good luck!"

Rainer Edmunton

[4] Rainer looked up, and for a moment he could see the disappearing remnants of heavenly light that formed a visage of Nix. Then he saw that the night is over and it's dawn already.

Morion

[4] The mustic pondered how he could be able to use his current magic to create new spells. As he focused and gained more energy, he noticed that the pieces of the ruby he found earlier started fusing together, to create a larger piece. He also noticed that the bigger piece was shaking, then saw more pieces coming out of the spots he was unable to search. After the ruby assembled whole, he could mend it or even turn it into other gems! After a moment Morion figured out what happened. It was not just a new spell, it was an entire new type of magic!

Turn 21

Morning [2]

An unbelievably bright stream stream of light stroke the Bleak Fortress, illuminating the entire valley for split second. Despite it being daylight already, several stars were still shining with an unusual strength. If one connected each of these with lines, they would form a great, sturdy tower.

Quinn Learner

What- he tried to kill me, what else could I do?!?

[Quinn: 4 +2] | [Maiden: 2 +2] [Axeman: 6 +2] [Sorcerer: 5 +2] [Knight: 3 +2] [Peasant: 4 +2]

Quann tried to persuade the attackers that he was acting in self defense. The Knight and the Maiden believed him, the Sorcerer remained sceptical and the Axeman went berserk!

[Axeman: 2] | [Sorcerer: 6 +2]

The warrior with the war axe charged at the nearby person - the magician, but the man managed to summon a familiar which blocked the attack and stopped him. However, he charged too much energy for the spell and the creature he brought forth was a Horker! It is impossible to control a demon of this power without a ritual or a blood pact!

[Horker: 4] | [Axeman: 6 +2] [Quinn: 5 +2] [Sorcerer: 4 +2] [Maiden: 2 +2] [Knight: 6 +2] [Peasant: 2 +2]

The demon in its rage unleashed a powerful nova of fire! Despite being right in the center of it and getting half of his body burnt, the Axeman still lived due to the berserk stance! The Sorcerer used a water shield to protect himself, while Quinn was completely fireproof due to his allegiance with Tar. The Knight used a charm that only made it uncomfortably hot for him, but was still knocked on the ground. The Peasant and the Maiden managed to hide behind the counter just in time, as their lowly armaments and protection wouldn't stand a chance against the Horker's might!

Quan

[3 +2] Quan inspected the armor - it seemed that it was a set of enchanted chain mail strengthened with leather, offering great mobility and decent protection. He could feel that the enchantment placed on it was beneficial, granting him protection from anything that he may encounter in the Valley! Then he unwrapped the bundle. There were twin daggers inside it, one enchanted with fire and the other with frost.

[5] Then he proceeded to feast and rest, tasting the exquisite dishes the fortress had to offer - birds with meat so soft and tender it dissolved in his mouth, as well as many fruits common and exotic. The bed was covered with red silk and had numerous eastern engravings on the shiny wooden surface. It had the most comfortable mattress he had ever lied on, and he felt that it was enchanted to provide an excellent night's rest.

Morion

[5 +2] Morion left the cottage with Darkfang following right behind him. The mystic felt a curious tingling in his nose, as if he could smell the enrgies left by different unknown phenomena. But the scent was everywhere, so he looked at the morning sky and saw that the still visible, extraordinarily bright stars formed a shape of a Tower. He marveled for a moment, then thought about a way to copy this incredible phenomena, and the stars granted Morion his wish! A stream of energy flowed into him from the sky and he realized that he could grant himself or his companions the powers of The Tower for short periods of time hereafter!

Rainer Edmunton

”Thank you, lord Nix.” whispered Rainer, then proceeded to loot the remaining left by the monsters.

[3 +2] The knight checked the trail left behind by the swarm of the dark wraiths. He found several crystals with the dark energy still flowing within them, as well as an unusual sword forged out of a purple, matt alloy. It had a hilt of bone with a tooth placed in its gem socket. He felt that the blade drained life energy of everythin around him and channeled it into his body, so he quickly sheathed it in a scrap of wool that belonged to one of the swarm's victims.

Havoc

[3 +2] Havoc kept moving until he reached a moldy trapdoor. It moved with some effort, but he finally found himself in a lavishly decorated chamber, in the middle of which was a pedestal with an eagle shaped pendant. In an instant, he heard it speaking to him: "Feast thine eyes upon this room, for you will never see it again. Take me and I shall grant you the flight of an eagle until the fog settles upon the land. You will be able to fly again then, when the birds awake." it said. Without any further thought, Havoc picked it up and put on his neck, then the doors to the valley opened, unleashing countless sparks which pushed him out.

Alzar

[2 +2] Alzar continued westwards, nostalgic for the sight of his scaly kinsmen. He heard his stomach rumbling loudly and decided to hunt some game. Just when he was about to hide in the bushes, he heard someone calling him. A tall and enormously wide knight in a full plate armor, and his shield bore a visage of a snapping turtle: "Oi traveller! Judging by the looks, you must be coming from a land far far away! Care to tell me what brings you here while having a nourishing meal?" said the knight, unwrapping a bundle with bread, fresh fruits and dried jerky. "No need to fear me! I Louise of Teuntaliyu seek no enemies within this already accursed land!"

Ok, Horker = bad. Rally the people here, and let’s kill the damned thing, or at least stop it from doing anything.
I suspect that encasing it in a solid and thick shell of tar would be quite helpful for immobilizing it.

Maybe once that’s done, we can do a proper ritual to make sure it can’t do any more harm and we can get on with our day.

Turn 22

Day [1]
The Tower [1]

Quinn Learner

[Quinn: 6] [Maiden: 5] [Axeman: 4] [Sorcerer: 6] [Knight: 4] [Peasant: 4] | [Horker: 2 +2]

Quinn rallied all the people to fight on his side against the demon! While the tavern patrons distracted it, the black archivist started building up tar all around the demon. It was almost starting to work, but the foolish sorcerer tried to hasten the process by adding his energy to the tar, obliterating it and giving the demon a fire frenzy!

[Horker: 6 +2] | [Peasant: 4 +2] [Knight: 3 +2] [Sorcerer: 6 +2] [Axeman: 1 +2] [Maiden: 1 +2] [Quinn: 2 +2]

The frenzied monstrosity started spewing fireballs all around the tavern, but everyone managed to escape from the building just in time! After a short moment, two horkers appeared in the flames.

Alzar

”I am but a wanderer, separated from my tribe by slavers. I seek to cross this bleak expanse to the far side, in hopes of finding my kin. Sadly there is little to keep myself oriented in this wasteland, and my flight from the slavers, followed by a monster of the night, has left me wonder how far I have run, and in what direction.”

[6] Alzar used his cloak to conceal his face, but willingly approached the knight and accepted his invitation to eat. Upon getting closer, he noticed that there was some foul play in this encounter, and immediately the illusion burst like a fragile soap bubble! It was a dread knight in golden plate with long withered hair, the one from the many nightmarish fairytales Alzar overheard in his childhood! He could not remember the creature's name though...

[1] "Do not hide your face mortal, I can see through your soul!" it yelled and charged!

[Dread Knight ?: 6] | [Alzar: 3 +2]

The lizardman just barely managed to parry the lightning fast assault! Suddenly they both heard a voice coming from above: "Kupameth! Do not waste your time on lowly fleshlings! Seek the messenger of the Bleak Fortress!" and so the dread knight dispersed immediately!

Rainer Edmunton

[2 +2] Searching for more useful items, Rainer moved into the forests where he found the Sun Stones - a huge flat stone with four pedestals indicating the directions of North, East, South and West, a place where pagans used to call spirits of elements to gain their favor. As soon as he approached it, a Spirit of Water spawned in the middle of the circle and summoned four water crystals. Then it gently placed each of the crystals on the pedestals and disappeared. Rainer heard that there was a legend associated with the Sun Stones, but he couldn't remember what.

Quan

[1] Quan was just about to head to the tower master to say that he's ready to move, but suddenly he noticed a withered undead in a golden armor looking through the window. "Where to look for the tower's messenger if not in the tower hehehehe!" the creature cackled and burst inside the chamber!

[1] "Tis best for the letter you have to never reach whomever it is addressed to!" the undead cackled and charged!

[Dread Knight Kupameth: 5] | [Quan: 2 +2]

The monster was so fast that Quan couldn't completely dodge and was scratched by the unholy blade! He noticed that the skin around the scratch seemed older than the rest of his body.

Havoc

"Flight? Maybe my luck is finally turning around." Havoc thought.

[1] Havoc left the shelter and moved out unwary of his surroundings, and started falling straight into a pit of boiling tar!

[1 +2] He desperately tried to activate the charm and he managed to do so just before falling in!

[2 +2] He flied higher to see from above if there is anything interesting in this place, and spotted a nest of implings within the charred, sulphurous land.

[5 +2] Havoc flied closer and the little demons shrieked instantly: "He who fly! We implings greet! A gift we give!" one of the little fiends opened a chasm to a hidden dimension and took out a red-hilted sword with a charred blade, then gave it to Havoc. "Gift! A friend gift!" the demons screeched in unison.

Morion

[1] Morion decided to move towards regions containing more power, but it didn't take him long. In fact, the powerful regions reached out to him on their own, making a powerful mass of flesh and severed limbs run straight towards him, corrupting everything around it!

[The Flesh: 5] | [Morion: 5 +2]

The mystic managed to jump away in time for the mass of flesh to miss him and far enough for the corruption to not affect him!

Send these people off to find a safe location, and try to stop the horkers. Preferably, I could get them held still and bind them, but killing or otherwise neutralizing their threat would also be workable if binding won't work.

He wondered if the Pestilent crusade, a order of demons with a human knight leading them, were here purging the world of undead and thus keeping the dark fortress contained. he also wondered if he would encounter the lucky dragon or the demonbound scholar, who were legends far more notable among both his kin and the humans.
Following the stars, he would continue on, muttering a small prayer to the lucky dragon in hopes of meeting one of the legendary Triad in person.

Turn 23

Day [2]
The Tower [2]

Quan

[Quan: 5] | [Dread Knight Kupameth: 5 +2]

Quan tried to pierce through the weak spots in Dread Knight's armor, but as he came closer to strike he realized that there aren't any!

[3] "there a intruder trying to kill the messenger he shouted and then heard the noise of Fortress' guards armor getting closer and closer to the chamber.

[Dread Knight Kupameth: 3] | [Quan: 3 +2]

The enemy striked again, but this time Quan managed to prepare himself and block the attack, then got the opening suitable for a counter! The combined powers of the opposite kinds of magic from his daggers ripped a hole in Kupameth's armor, lightly wounding him!

Quinn Learner

[5] ...I apologize thoroughly for the state of your residence, and we can discuss methods of reparations at a later time, but right now I do think you really should all be getting away from this location. I'll hold off the horkers. Quinn sent off the tavern patrons, who hid behind rocks, trees or other nearest obstacles.

[Horker: 6] [Horker: 2] | [Quinn: 2 +2]

One of the horkers wanted to give chase and kill everone, but the other stopped it and started spewing fireballs, which the first one absorbed out of spite, receiving some physical damage! Quinn used this time to start binding them. He slowly summoned tar and made it soak up from under the ground. It'll still take a while to completely bind them, due to the fire instantly melting the tar.

[Quinn: 3] | [Horker: 6 +2] [Horker: 6 +2]

Quinn continued building up the tar but the demons noticed it and started increasing the temperature of the flames!

Morion

[3] Morion hastily summons Darkfang!

[The Flesh: 6] | [Darkfang: 3 +2] [Morion: 5 +2]

The monstrosity shot out some appendages from its body which instantly turned into flesh golems, sacrificing some of its vitality! However, Darkfang insantly spewed out his venomous spit and melted them away with darkness and poison, while Morion got into a safe casting distance!

Rainer Edmunton

[5] "It's a good thing I read my history. Let's see... it should go like..." Rainer whispered, touching one of the mouldy pedestals. He entered the circle and pondered for a moment. He looked at the carvings placed upon each of the pedestals and saw that they were reoriented. He knew the ways that scholars of the old prepared their rituals, and that Sun Stones were connected to the elements and the directions of the world. First shot blackened countered with white hear, then sulphuric yellow and everything ends in a bloody inferno. As such he should go with Earh, Water, Air and Fire. He also connected the facts that Earth was soaking water to spawn those of the dark, that the Elemental Spirit already placed the correct crystal on the pedestal, that the air never required its own crystal, and that to bring forth fire he neads to release energy. As such, he placed a dark crystal on the southern pedestal. Then passed by the western one without doing anything to it. Then he went to the northern one and removed the water crystal, and finally, went to the eastern one, to remove the water crystal, and place a catalyst crystal on it.

Suddenly all of the spirits came upon the Sun Stone and started swirling graciously in the dance of love, hatred, destruction and creation. Rainer saw all the colours he could imagine and those that he was unable to comprehend, the spirits then moved to their pedestals and accepted his offerings, which started shining with a prysmatic glow. A powerful beam of sunlight stroke the flat stone and unleashed the heat all around, then when it was all done, Rainer could see four items laying on it.

[4 +2, | 2 +2 | 2 +2 | 5 +2]

The first one was a set of plate armor that looked unbelievably heavy, thick and stiff, but was sure embued with enough power to make it light chains and flexible as leather. The next one was an amulet - a golden anchor. The third item was unusual, it was a tiny box, but it was closed and without any key. Rainer was sure that it might not be useful right now, but will some day be. And the last one was a skull shaped gem - it surely had something to do with the sword he was carrying!

Havoc

[3 +2] Havoc thanked the implings and flied away to see if he could find more interesting things! In the distance, he noticed an abandoned encampment on one of the taller hills.

Alzar

If the dread knight was real, then Alzar knew the other tales had to be as well. the false archangel must be present somewhere on this world, as well as the avatars of the Triad. He wondered if the Pestilent crusade, a order of demons with a human knight leading them, were here purging the world of undead and thus keeping the dark fortress contained. he also wondered if he would encounter the lucky dragon or the demonbound scholar, who were legends far more notable among both his kin and the humans.

[5] Henceforth he moved onwards, following the stars and giving out a short prayer to the God of Luck, which was granted! An apparition rose before him, an enormous man clad in charred plate and his eyes were flaming! "I am Reynald Smithson. I gave out my soul in exchange to stop the Undead Hunt. What is thy wish mortal?" he said with a raspy, metallic voice.

Continue with my work. So long as they remain distracted by the tar, at least, I can likely continue attempting to bind them to my will.

EDIT:
New skill: Shackle of Lysander
And even as they tried to stand against him, their blackened souls still recognized their once and future lord.
Allows for much easier binding of unbound demonic enemies.
(I want to use this this turn, so we’re clear.)

Turn 24

Day [4]
The Tower [3]

Quinn Learner

Unimportant and impertinent fools. I’d bet you weren’t even worth enough to be named. Quinn taunted the horkers, continuing to distract them with tar.

[Quinn: 5] | [Horker: 1 +2] [Horker: 2 +2]

The demons slowly made their way towards the exit of the burning building and in a big leap almost reached Quinn, but suddenly he felt an unexpected surge of power flowing through him. The power that seemed both foreign and familiar. An aura of dread overcame the demons as they saw a blackened shadow rising behind the mystic. Ulthraashar! Hereimor! Kneel before your new master! and the demons did so. The shade took chunks of their soul, weakening them, and leaving to Quinns command. Then it disappeared, and the name that came to Quinn's mind was Lysander.

Morion

[Morion: 3] [Darkfang: 5] | [The Flesh: 6 +2]

The mystic hastily cast Venomous Bite and shot a pair of spider-like appendages formed out of poison at The Flesh, but it blocked the attack! Darkfang used this to call all the nearby spiders to arms and they proceeded to bite it. Their strength was negligible compared to the might of this monstrosity, but gave it countless curses!

Quan

[Quan: 4] | [Dread Knight Kupameth: 1 +2]

Quan sensed a tiny shift of energy, truly something unusual for someone not attuned to Arcane, but this allowed him to predict the next move of the Dread Knight, allowing to wound him again!

[5] The allies have come! The Charred Mage with a squad of five Fortress Guards with longswords and axes!

[4] "It seems that it'll be tougher than expected. But there's no need to bring forth The Flesh. I sense that she is entertained hehe..." Kupameth said mockingly.

[Charred Mage: 3] [Fortress Guards: 2, 3, 6, 4, 4] | [Dread Knight Kupameth: 4 +2]

The magician used a charm to strengthen all the allies in the chamber! The Guards rushed against the dread one. Two of them were slain immediately upon reaching him, two of them were parried despite attacking from two different sides, and the last one leapt into his stab just to hack his face with an axe!

[4] A loud roar came from the outside! The Wyvern charged into the room, completely demolishing another one of the walls!

[Dread Knight Kupameth: 2] | [Black Ichor Wyvern: 5 +2]

Seeing the new threat, Kupameth instantly charged in an attempt to behead the beast, but it swiftly chomped and caught him in its teeth!

Alzar

”I seek a boon to traverse these lands. Do you seek a task of me for it, heroic one?” the lizardman asked.

[4] "Yes..." his voice echoed rapidly throughout the entire forest. "I shall grant you what you seek. I shall grant you much more, and I shall grant you much less. Continue on your path, and you rise. Continue on your path, and fall. For you are a mortal man. But know this. There is a precious spark of power within the bosom of living, from which they gather their true strength. The same spark which is keeping me now undead yet very much alive. I have failed, when the time was nigh, but I have succeeded where many have failed. The ones who keep me still fighting for justice are Perseverance, Strength and Will. It is with their aid that I enact my revenge upon the Undead Hunt." he stopped for a moment, seemingly as if his essence was somewhere else at the time. "There are agents of Undead Hunt here, in this land. There are those, who try to prevent it. Reach out to them, and stop them. The desperate attempt has to be stopped and the reckoning has to come. It is then, when I will be able to reach this land for long enough, to severe the chain that keeps this land in the cycle of growth and harvest."

The apparition disappeared. Alzar found a bundle in his hand, which he did not notice taking before. Inside, there were three petrified lumps, each of them signed. Perseverance, Strength and Will. He did not sense any kind of energy from it, but knew that should he achieve certain state, they will flourish with energy and give their wielder a great power.

Havoc

[6] Havoc flied closer to the encampment, when suddenly he was attacked by a dark spirit! The mutilated body teeming with darkness and bound by shackles started flying towards him!

Rainer Edmunton

[5] Rainer put on the armor, which adjusted to his body perfectly, then put on the skull charm in the socket of the Blood Leech. It unleashed a weak nova of darkness, but the weapon absorbed its power!

[4] Rainer investigated the box. It seemed to be of ancient origin, but still in a good shape. The ornaments indicated all the directions of the world, and there was some unusual aura coming from it. He looked into the key hole, and noticed sparks of light floating out of it. They started dancing and melting together, until they formed a ball of light, that for some reason wanted Rainer to follow it.

Enemies:

Dread Knight Kupameth: -384 HP, Immobilised [96/512]
The Flesh: -14HP, Rock-bound Curse [2], Curse of Blindness [6], Curse of Petrification [4] [178/256]

Ulthraashar: Bound to Quinn Learner
Hereimor: Bound to Quinn Learner

Tormented Wraith: [96/96]

Player

Alzar: Received 3 Petrified Lumps
Quinn: Bound two demons

GM Notes

Petrified Lump - A rock-solid, lifeless mass that used to contain enormous amounts of Essence, or never held enough of it. Now petrified, it may still be refilled again.

Rock-bound Curse - The limbs of the target become slow, stiff and heavy, as if they were cast in rock.

Curse of Blindness - This particular curse was invented by a desperate hexer in a struggle against a dark spirit. Its power lies not in impairing the physical organs of the target, but rather going deep within the energy, temporarily removing the ability to perceive.

Curse of Petrification - A cruel curse rapidly draining one's essence, turning the affected area into a rock-solid mass.

Quinn offers a brief prayer of thanks to Lysander.

Now. Ulthraashar, Hereimor, you will hand over any valuables in your possession to me, and inform me of the location of any other such items you are aware of, and the risks that would be involved in retrieving them. Now let’s get going, I shall be informing the patrons of this inn of what has happened. You will not harm them in any manner unless I specifically tell you to.
Go find the tavern patrons, let them know that I have bound the demon, and ask them about how I can assist them.
