Title: The Thing.
Post by: ~Neri on June 22, 2014, 01:25:23 am
Spoiler: GM Note: (click to show/hide)

A fireball streaks across the night sky. A seemingly endless expanse of white gleams in the moonlight.

The fireball suddenly curves downwards, smashing into the white expanse. A plume of ice shards and steam. A shockwave reverberates across the expanse.

Our flight pod is aflame. Our entire being screams in pain. Must escape the voices cry. The longer we stay here, the more we lose ourselves. Knowledge burning away. Quickly with haste we must leave.

Inside the flaming capsule, a fleshy blob shifts. Charred and dead flesh is shed as appendages begin erupting from the creature's flesh as it rapidly begins building muscles across its fleshy form. The largest of the appendages warp and bend the pod, splitting it slightly. A rush of frigid air blasts against the creature, it trembles, reflexively using its newly formed muscles to conserve heat. It realizes not only is it too hot, but also part of it is too cold.

The heat Burns just as much as the Cold. We must survive.

Through the hole and away from the fire, the many legged ball of flesh crawls. The cold and heat forcing it to shed more dead tissue, its mind slowly burning away. It shudders, most of its legs splitting and snapping, as they are reabsorbed into the mass, a chitinous growth begins to envelop the creature, shielding from the elements. The cold slowly continues to seep through although it soon stops as fur begins to sprout across the chitinous growth. It curls its remaining legs against its mass.

Sleep soon.

Nope, actually the temperature of snow and ice pretty much stays at the freezing point, so being buried in snow is much preferable to the artic winds that would quickly sap any warmth that is not protected by fur and fat.

Strike the snow!
Yeah. Lets get a "chill" underground igloo for ourself.

Edit:
Strange.. it did not inform me of gm-ninja-ing. Oh well, it still works as an action though ;3

The creature shudders, bones snapping as it reabsorbs its legs and part of its exoskeleton. It elongates itself, thinning widthwise and lengthening length wise before growing a series of muscles and chitinous growths along its body. Deciding it needs a way to sense the surrounding area, it grows a sensory organ, intended to smell the nearby area.

Tiring fast.

With a last burst of activity, the creature rapidly grows a crystalline structure, into which it copies many memories, not all but most, before it grows what amounts to a biological parachute and attaches it to the mindseed. The seed is catapulted into the sky with a quickly constructed tensionbased muscle and bone gear system before that is assimilated to reinforce the now depleted exoskeleton. ((This gear system actually exists in some insects irl for jumping~ Gnats for example~))

Too many choices, too little mass. We are Seed and we are Mind. Perhaps one day Seed shall return to Mind. We must sleep now.

An iceberg drifts, floating through the current. Time passes. The earth turns. The iceberg begins to melt. Something stirs within. A fishing trawler, of a crew no more then fourteen catches something that would have best been left undisturbed. As the net of fish is emptied upon the deck, the ice shatters, sending its slowly waking contents tumbling with the fish. The sun burning the last stubborn fragments of ice from its groggy form.

Vote AGAINST growing something as expensive as eyes.

> Turn some cells on your surface into chemoreceptors to get a sense of smell.
+1 This is better. Also, how do we gain mind?

And we should probably use fibrils or whatever you call them to assimilate the fish. Less movement.

The wakening amorphous mass sets to work producing chemoreceptors. A way to sense its environment is deemed necessary. -6 biomass. -6 Mind. -1 Energy. + Scent Tier 1.

It immediately detects flesh. Organics are required to grow. Small tendrils are formed, assimilating all nearby flesh. -4 Biomass. -4 Mind. -1 Energy. +4 Fibrils. +4-8 Biomass per turn. +0.1 size.

+1 also won't the fishermen see us, i think we need to quickly get the fish then infect one of the fishermen, slowly turning him into another thing. like shoot a tendril out and release a couple cells. then invade other cells and replace them reproducing and growing till the thing cells finally overpower and take over the body. Then the fun starts. but first the fish.
