Making creatures skinnable?
« on: October 04, 2010, 05:42:19 pm »

I embarked in an area that only has slugmen and snailmen as creatures. It doesn't seem like I can get leather from them.
Does anyone know what I would need to change in the raws in order to be able to get hides from them?

Remove the [CAN_LEARN] tag from them so you can butcher them

ugh, now I know my mod plan isn't feastible. Good to know. I wanted that dwarf, human, elf being butcherable for a new civ race.

Toady, can we have [CAN_LEARN] not to interfere with butcher or no butcher? so that we can put in [NOT_BUTCHERABLE] whenever we want.

If you wanted to do all that, then you just have to modify civ ethics so that they can eat(and butcher) sentient creatures
Have these tags
[ETHIC:EAT_SAPIENT_OTHER:ACCEPTABLE]
[ETHIC:EAT_SAPIENT_KILL:ACCEPTABLE]

It isn't so much CAN_LEARN as your civ's ethics opposing butchering sapient beings.  Which is quite reasonable if you're making a mod with more than one playable race.

It certainly works. I outfit my crossbow squads in nothing but the finest goblin leather armor.

I think i did something similar, i couldnt designate butcher from the animal screen, but had to do it manually. my snakemen would be able to butcher tame dread trolls, which where somehow born with armour on (more for me :D). the only downside is that they get an unhappy thought from 'witnessing death lately'. after my spring butch-a-thon, im on the edge of a tantrum spiral Im sure.

Is it wrong that this sounds like the title of a lesbian porno to me?

I just realized two things. 1. For the Win and F___ the World have the same initials. 2. They have the same meaning in Dwarf Fortress.
