Title: The Jawa Fortress of Rashvir, Deathstar
Post by: Enemy post on January 11, 2018, 03:52:50 pm

A Star Wars (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=158469.0) succession fort.

We are an expatriate Jawa clan on the world of Anenu Liceva, known to the locals as "The Planet of Legends". It has been 125 years from colonization. Many factions contest this world for settlement and mineral rights. The Jawas here survive by trading with peaceful groups such as the diverse settlers, Rebel Alliance cells, and the Jedi. They must deal carefully however, as not all the other groups are friendly. Stormtroopers, Pirates, Sith, and others have no qualms about wiping out a settlement to grab valuable resources or a strategic position.

Today marks a new day for the Jawas, as we set out to begin a new outpost.

Utinni!

Yeah sure I wouldn't mind taking a turn. Haven't played modded before though so have you just changed the races or are there new workshops and stuff?
Title: Re: Interest check:Star Wars succession fort.

There's not really anything for new workshops, just a "weapon shop". However, the rest of the game has numerous changes.

The differences between jawas and dwarves are:Jawas are a bit smaller and weaker and have no armor with less types of weapons. They also don't cave adapt or need alcohol. On the bright side, they can buy droids to work on their behalf. They can also use various monsters from Star Wars as pets, such as rancors.

The other races have all been changed as well. They are:

The animals are all different as well, although night creatures are still the same.

Metals and plants are the unaltered.

*I had hoped for more interest, but I'll go ahead and start. Maybe more people will join later. I updated the OP, and I'll start the fort tomorrow if I'm able.

Also I would like to be a jawa.

I'm super in!

Also I would like to be a jawa.
Glad to have you aboard! I've already started the fort, any preferences for what your jawa should be like?

We have a female mason/miner, a female woodworker, a female mechanic/manager, a female fisherjawa, a male fishery worker, a male carpenter, a female ranger, a male weaponsmith, one male and one female bone carver, a female papermaker, a female fishery worker, a male farmer, and a male expedition leader.

The expedition leader is in a romantic relationship with the mason, the male bone carver is married to the fishery worker, and the ranger is married to the weaponsmith. The male bone carver has a pet dewback, the woodworker has a pet luggabeast, and the weaponsmith has a pet police droid. The droids have names, but I can't nickname them for dorfing purposes.

*Some immigrants arrived, so I edited the above.

Granite, 125.

We venture forth. There are in fact two Jawa clans on this world. One is the Thimbles of Phelgm, known for the peace and safety of their island home. Only pirates trouble them. We however are in the Cloister of Equity, and we hail from the mainland. Much of the surrounding desert has already been taken, but we have found a little river in the desert to call our own. Our surveying gear indicates very deep soil and shallow metals. There are signs of an aquifer, but we can get through it.

Many other peoples have trade in this region. The surrounding dunes are littered with habitation, but none of the settlements are Jawas. One can only hope they don't mind neighbors.  Our full report has been compiled below.

I will take up the pick and do the first of the digging. With me are a mason, a fisherjawa, a woodcutter, an engineer, a cook, and our expedition leader, a farmer. We're bringing the standard array of supplies, with the addition of extra wood, seeds, and drink. For companions, we are bringing loth-cats (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Loth-cat), gizka (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Gizka), vulptices (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Vulptex), and an R2 droid. Our wagon was pulled by a dewback  (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Dewback)and a luggabeast (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Luggabeast).

Around us stretches our new home. A few enormous cacti and many hardy little plants coat the hill we have settled upon. At its foot lies the river, brimming with fish. A single dianoga (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Dianoga/Legends) provides the only apparent danger, and it is a mild one.

Slate, 125

Our home is being dug. Some dangeous looking G0-T0 (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Sentry_droid_Mark_I) droids have been floating by, but they don't seem inclined to attack us. I've requested that the mason start helping me with the digging. Mostly peaceful this month. The mason apparently fell in love with the expedition leader on the way here. Good for her. On a final note, I've ordered that our wagon be converted into the trading depot. It will continue to serve us well.

Felsite, 125.

Work continues. Many rooms are coming together well. I've noticed that while there's no violence on the land, the river fish slap each other constantly. The poor dianoga has been the only one to die. Got slapped in the brain.

Hematite, 125.

We have begun efforts to breach the aquifer. It will be difficult, but we will need the stone, water, and gems underneath soon. I'd also like to get more food. Fish are nice, but the smell's a bit of a problem.

Malachite, 125.

Still pumping out water. At least we won't die of thirst. On that note, we've begun the graveyard. Just in case this pumping project goes wrong. Some migrants arrived. There's a woodworker, a ranger, an administrator, a weaponsmith, two bone carvers, a papermaker, and a fishery worker. They brought along a police droid and a sifter droid.

Galena, 125.

I decided to find out who those nearby settlements are. Turns out we're right in between the First Order and the Geonosians. About a day's walk to the south is the Sith. At least there's some harmless settler communities to the north and a single outpost of Republic clone troopers to the east. We may have company someday soon.

Jawa me as the weaponsmith. Jawas tend to be unruly, and I'll make sure our police force of one droid will always be up to the task of pacifying troublemakers (yes, i am aware that it won't do any pacifying). I guess I can arm the actual guards when we get to that point.

Sorry, Dunamisdeos already claimed that one. There's a couple others with weaponsmithing as a secondary skill, if you like. Updated the OP with Dunamisdeos's Jawa.

Done. You're the Fisherjawa.

Limestone, 125.

Some interruptions at the lake. TalonisWolf tells me that the fish often try to slap anyone who tries to fish or drink there. No injuries though, so we'll keep going. The grave chamber has been declared a temporary shrine for those who feel the need to pray. We'll likely build a more permanent one once we get past this aquifer. Our astromech was one of the first to go there. I didn't know droids had religion.

The baron consort's caravan has arrived. We have a bit to trade, but not much. At the same time, a baby has been seen among the slapping fish for the first time. This is a good omen!

We weren't sure what to ask for next year. After a quick request for seeds, I put down rancors  (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Rancor) as a high priority. Joking of course, I'm certain they won't go to the trouble of bringing those monsters.

Our vulptices have also bred, giving birth to three pups.

We had little to sell with the aquifer in our way, but at least we got some sewer brew for a fusion cutter and some wooden crafts.

Later

Ow. Turns out the fish can slap pretty hard. I just gained the dubious distinction of being the first to get seriously hurt by the fish. I'm currently recuperating in an unused bedroom. Thankfully, the R2 was able to drag me away from the river.

These fish are getting to be a problem.

"Well, m'um m'aloo! What happened to your face?"

Keep. Calm. Looking up, I see one of the others standing there, some supplies cradled in their arms. Sighing, I point at them. "Shouldn't you be taking those somewhere?" I tiredly ask, hoping they'll move along. Krayt Dragons twitchy tail, this is embarrassing!

The annoying little wamp rat chuckles, their hood waving as they shake their head in amusement. "It can wait. You look like a handy source of amusement, and I've been at it all day."

Of course. I'm now the local source of entertainment! How wonderful. "The fish are strong and like to slap you in the face." I tell him, wearily pointing at the river.

I almost don't catch the supplies before they hit the ground as the cheeky kriffing shavit falls to the ground laughing.

Sandstone, 125

I think I did the excavations in the aquifer wrong. This will complicate things.

Dunamisdeos claims the fish don't bother him, but I can tell he's lying.

Our papermaker has been declared the doctor. We've got nobody with relevant skills and we don't have any medical droids, so she'll have to do. She fixed me up enough to get back to work. I missed seeing the desert bloom.

Didn't stay out long enough to miss digging the new aquifer tunnel. Yay.

Timber, 125.

Some more migrants are here. One of them is a ranger, and she brought a blaster with her.

Good thing we got a new ranger, because I think our old one just broke.

She took some logs, but now she just keeps muttering about stone blocks. This will be difficult, especially with the damaged tunnel. Let it never be said that we lack determination.

With the end of Timber comes the beginning of winter. At least we still have the aquifer to drink from. And more importantly...

The river has frozen and the slapping has finally ceased.

Now I'm imagining my Jawa cackling by the riverbank in sadistic joy as the migrants watch uneasily, wondering how long it'll be till they turn out just like... (checks Jawas gender) her.

Moonstone, 125

We should try and get some bones for crafts. Imic the bone carver has just reminded the expedition leader that we have two legendary carvers with skills rusting away. We also need a gate as soon as we can make mechanisms. This void strider (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Void_strider) has been running frantically around the bedrooms for a while now.

Tragically, we did not pierce the aquifer in time. Dunamisdeos' wife was driven mad by whatever possessed her. She rushed upstairs, howling with a dark rage. The violence was...horrific.

Now the first of us has gone to her grave. Goodbye, Alath.

As my father before me and so now I
Give pause to reflect on the day I will die
As they lay me down in the cold of the ground
Remember I am closer
To the place I am bound
A few final words will be spoken, I trust
Be as kind as you can and lie if you must
And remember me when I was at my best
Instead of used up, lying with flowers on my chest

Sometimes death is like a thief in the night
It steals every treasure that is hidden in plain sight
But I do not flatter my own memory
For I will miss you every bit as much as you'll be missing me
I wish I could be there to brighten the mood
With friends and family and mountains of food
And stories and memories and tales all around
But it's late and I must travel
To the place I am bound

And I hope that the will of the Force will not mind
If you toast me with juice of the Jawa kind
And raise your glasses as the blessing is said
"Utto nye usabia atoonyoba!" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ikxe4v7J4g)

Do we have DFhack? If so, can you rename him Murtaugh? That way I can be a proper just-lost-his-wife buddy cop duo. Also, I wish to take up fishing in my spare time if I have any. The better to fight the fish conspiracy.

If the position of sheriff becomes open/wanted, Murtaugh and I shall volunteer.

Well, got to play the cards I'm dealt.

Opal & Obsidian, 125.

I never noticed before the funeral what an amazing woman TalonisWolf is. She's so brave, going out every day and risking her life against slap-fish. She really deserves more than the boring old 1x3 rooms the rest of us get. I'll see what I can do.

I hope this is enough to make her happy at least. It's not very good, but I tried my best to make better chambers for her.

It's just a new bedroom, with personal office and dining hall attachments. There's also some amateur water features. I also built her a tomb above it and guarded it with roughly 60,000 viper wasps (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Viper_wasp). I'm not good with talking to girls, I hope tens of thousands of stinging insects watching them for eternity is a thing they like. I'll ask Dunamisdeos.

On reflection, asking widowers right after the funeral for dating advice probably wasn't the best idea. He's declared himself the sheriff. His droid seems to think it's "too old for this", but Dunamisdeos is determined to find the fish responsible for murdering his wife.

One last entry before the new year. Another Jawa took over the craftsman's workshop.

Next year's overseer, you've got your work cut out for you.

Well, my turn's done. We still desperately need to get through the aquifer and have no defenses, but at least I didn't kill everyone and we have a stable food supply.

Here's the save, Wertyzerty. (http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=13423)

I love this comic so much I'm going to dig its grave and cover it in bees.

Although it's not your wife's tomb. I built it for TalonisWolf, in advance.

Obviously it was just a clever way of asking if girls like VIPER WASPS! I definitely didn't read it too fast.

I'm too busy laughing myself to death to respond to this in-character. Everytime I think I'm done laughing, I start cracking up again...

EDIT: A day later, the symptoms caused by this comic have not abated. Why do you do this to me?

Still some giggles, but I'm better. Dunamisdeos, thank you for the chuckles- it shouldn't have been that funny, but somehow it was.

Happy to serve! It was more fun to make than expected! :D

Also, I have famously bad luck with aquifers. If that isn't solved soon  If I am allowed to tackle that then the death toll will be catastrophic.

OK I don't have time to post the summary tonight, but tomorrow should be fine. Just warning you though, a few people died.
Also Enemy Post, could you say how dangerous the different creatures are? Like a ranking or something because just their description is slightly misleading, if you know what I mean.

Sorry, but that would take a prohibitively long time. There's at least a couple hundred of them and I'd have to retest and rank each one. Wookieepedia might help, that was my source for most of the work. I can also give advice on individual creatures if it would help.

Is something wrong with a description? Problems with those don't show up on the errorlog, so I could have missed something.

No no don't worry, nothing is wrong with the description, it's just I found it quite hard to judge how strong a particular enemy was, which was... Interesting.

Diary of Wertyzerty the Peasant

‘Be merry!’ That’s what I say to myself still, at 46 summers of age. With my extended family (I’ll spare you the 80 family members) I’ll say I am.
I start this diary in 126, the first of Granite. That was when I was appointed ruler of this fortress. I’m not a noble or anything, oh no. I’m a strong working woman jawa.

My first priority is to build a bridge at the entrance. This fortress could use some more security.

Oh God. An aquifer.
I’ll get to piercing that right away.
Hang on a minute. Looking for a minute, it appears we already have a path through the aquifer! The wall is not damp there and i'm on the aquifer level. Let me check.

Of course. A bloody were-squirrel, my first day on the job. And still no bridge.

Someone’s having a laugh here. He was spotted right in front of the door. The open door. I should really tightly close that door to make sure no more slothcats try to escape.

The cat bolted, letting me close the door. We might make it out of this one alive, boys.
I have set the safe room as the only good room with a door, the fishery. Let’s hope everyone makes it before the were-squirrel, cause I am bolting that door shut.

Phew! Apparently, doors can hold back were-squirrels. We made it out of this one alive.

I have just realised that the aquifer is only one layer deep there, but it doesn’t make a difference because we are already a layer through this one. Let’s keep pumping.

Oops. I guess I wasn’t fast enough. The death count will now be 2.

Migrants!!!! Some people to replace all the jawas we’ve lost!

The season is otherwise quite slow, with not much else happening.

Well, that guy died.

Another one. Another poor bastard who’s gonna need stone, and then go mad. Seen it happen three times already.

I am very glad this farmer has proven me wrong. We’ll get a wooden doorknob or something out of it this time.

I was right... Almost as useless as a doorknob. An earring. A bloody earring…

In my rage at the lack of activity in the fortress, I quickly ‘created’ some jobs for everyone. Should keep morale up.

Oh crap. The dwarves sobered up. The biggest hangover I’ve ever seen. Shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot. Let’s fix this ASAP.

I also made a barrack because these lazy dwarves are probably gonna get attacked by another were-squirrel, I am future proofing this.
The aquifer is going slowly, just more migrants have arrived, not that that’ll speed anything up…

The population is now 58, I have made a rollcall for convenience.

More people who want stuff we don’t have…

Basically I asked for lots of stone. But wait… They have news of the outside world, which when I tried finding out exactly what they led me into a really confusing menu. I tried.

I’m hoping we breach the aquifer before this guy goes mad.

It seems the nobles have taken control of this fortress, nevermind, we shall prevail.

The military is now in action.

*Violent swearing* Not this idiot again.

The same tactic worked again.

I have just breached the aquifer!!!!!

Exploration exploration.

On second thoughts, that Gundark is scary. I’ll block the passage off.

Not another one. *sigh*

I am linking up the bridge as we speak, however I may need to harvest wood from the cavern to smelt hematite. In other news:

As I begin my last month as ruler, I am glad to say it has gone well-ish. Only a couple of people died. The next priorities are setting up a smithing area and getting a proper military. Finding something other than wood to make coal out of would be useful as well.

It appears I spoke too soon. As a message to all future rulers, dwarves with no armor and no weapons cannot wrestle a Bonzami to death. We lost half of our squad.

Sorry about that Imic.
Also, a hospital would be nice, too.

  Smear

I look around in horror, over Jawas who just yesterday were eating and working at my side... now nothing more than smears of gore and scattered limbs.

Our 'Overseer' is a monster... he sent all these Jawas against some  Bonzami (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Bonzami) with no weapons, no protection... just their wits.

Against Bonzami. Razor sharp teeth, Blaster resistant hide, Armoured Heads which they use to bash their prey... like, say, Jawas. We expected danger, but this... this was unnecessary. Pointless. Senseless.

I... I'm scared. What if next time, it's me they send? I fish, I don't know how to fight- I'd get slaughtered! Maybe... no. Killing the overseer would just get me killed, or make me just as much a killer as that monster.

There must be another way. There has to be.

Looking into the dead eyes of one of the few more intact corpses, I wonder if I'll have a choice.

Werty's time as Overseer is nearing it's end. Soon. The paranoia, the fear, the constant glacing over my shoulder- at a end.

Glancing around, I scurry quickly down the halls. The Overseers are chosen randomly, but perhaps... who'd know if I rig it? It is unthinkable- messing with fate itself!? Replace all the ballots, and no Jawa would know the difference.

Dunamisdeos looks more or less sane, with them in charge... maybe I can stop fearing an order I can't ignore.

I will not be a smear to clean up. I won't

((I had fun with this one, actually. I thing I've corrected all my spelling and grammar, but if I'm wrong say so. At some point I'll find out about my 'tomb', and given my sudden fear of death and awareness of my mortality... well, it'll be interesting.

But at least you broke through the aquifer, WertyZerty

I may be interested in a turn later... but right now, I have too much on the go. That said, please don't die before I get unbusy.))

Before I start.

Ok first things first. I plugged the save into my DF_Hack enabled version and turned on the phoebus tileset and it totes mcgoats seems to be working without having messed with the save file.

Also I made a jawa graphic. Is this ok? Am I going to break something for future turns? The only thing that should carry over to future turns (unless I am mistaken) is the lil' jawa graphic. I can easily disable it for future turns as well.

1st Granite - 127 (Spring)

*writing in datapad*

My first impression of my new job today was "our social meeting hall is inside the place we bury our dead". How efficient!

At any rate, I was told that we were defended by a military-in-training. I find we are actually defended by a recently-traumatized unarmed mob and..... ahhhh, there's the bloody stairs. Going to seal that right up for now.

Our food supply seems secure and we have a massive amount of hematite, so next on the list is INDUSTRY and some kind of ARMORY. There are 70+ jawas in here twiddling their thumbs.

*turns towards camera*

Cmon, Murtaugh.

It's time to dole out new jobs. We need to make sure we have some masons, mechanics, jewelers, smiths and carpen-- what are you flipping out about, Murtaugh?

Spoiler: This. (click to show/hide)

Having seen the results of out last "military" engagement, I've decided to set apart a place for people to bleed to death in peace. The others call it a "hospital". At any rate, a centralized industry area has been designated below the aquifer line. That way if someone ever plinks the wrong rock we can all d- for the most efficient mine-to-product ratio and ---- ahh, more migrants.

One of them is a talented doctor. The other jawas tell me this is one who professionally oversees the bleeding-out room. What luck. Also, some gungan royalty and a rebel marksman are visiting. In light of the recent cave-murderbeast problem, I have granted the petitions of three monster hunters for residency. I expect the Ewok spearman will lend considerable security to our home. One of them is also the Gungan Royalty. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Now that we have some serious industry capacity (still low wood tho) what is a good weapon to train our military in? I have no idea what the relative worth of these are. I always just played things with lightsabers.
Title: Re: The Jawa Fortress of Rashvir, Deathstar.
Post by: Enemy post on January 26, 2018, 11:14:57 pm
Jawa weapons are fairly weak, by design. We have fusion cutters that stab similarly to daggers, Stun batons that are a bit like warhammers or whips, and ion blasters that are like crossbows.

What I'd really like to do is trade with Jedi to get lightsabers.
Title: Re: The Jawa Fortress of Rashvir, Deathstar.
Post by: Dunamisdeos on January 27, 2018, 11:47:05 am
Iron fusion cutters it is, for now.

Also: I note absolutely noone is eating the plump helmets. Are we carnivorous?

We've discovered the magma sea........ 130 levels below ground. A pump stack that large being impractical, I'm setting up magma forges/smelters at that depth to get around charcoal costs.

Our last bit of wood without setting up shop in the caverns is 3 wood being saved for potential moods.

It's almost autumn, and I'm going to try and set up cloth/thread production in winter. Just had a mood that made me have to unzone the hospital for thread.
Title: Re: The Jawa Fortress of Rashvir, Deathstar.

We're not carnivores, I'm pretty sure I saw Jawas eating plump helmets and plump helmet meals during my turn.
Title: Re: The Jawa Fortress of Rashvir, Deathstar.
Post by: Dunamisdeos on January 27, 2018, 02:42:29 pm
20th Limestone, 127, Early Autumn

The caravan has arrived! While it has brought no rancors to speak of, they have brought all-important wood to stock our piles with. With the discovery of magma our needs have drastically been reduced. We also traded for some some other assorted items, such as barrels and buckets. I've sternly demanded pet rancors upon their return, as well as gypsum plaster to deal with the inevitable effects of local rancors.

With this in mind the last of our charcoal has been used to create the tools needed to forge in magma, and to arm our newly-filled-out military with our most powerful weapons: fusion cutters (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Fusioncutter). I've ordered them to train nonstop in learning how to kill sentient invaders with what is essentially a white-hot screwdriver.

The massive shaft to the burgeoning magma foundries is being expanded, and our food storage/production has also received a boost due to the production of rock pots. We've got a few dedicated fish cleaners, since when given the chance all our current fish cleaners prefer to fish rather than prepare the stuff.

Side note: I've tried to tell everyone that vegetables are part of a healthy jawa diet, but I can never understand their response as they have too much fish in their mouths. I am never one to discourage the catching and consumption of fish and their untrustworthy, conspiratorial flesh so we're just going to let that one go then.

Side note Deux: A minor miscalculation almost resulted in the entire magma-forge shaft being flooded with water. It was caught and patched very luckily, very quickly.

I accidentally canceled whatever standing manager orders were there, so sorry about that. We have some for cloth farming now.

Forges/Smelters/metal and ore stockpiles have been moved down to the magma sea. Until or unless we secure a good source of wood, that's the only way to make metal :\

Anyway, nothing else really happened and we have a bustling industry. Oh, but Murtaugh petitioned for citizenship. I granted that. He's too old for this residency s***. Military is coming along, most of them are competant/skilled with their cutters.

Anyway here's the save (http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=13462)! I disabled the jawa graphic because it would probably look weird in you all's ASCII.

Alright, I'm taking another turn. I'd like to get at least to the first siege. First things first, Robotala (https://i.imgur.com/cBdKDjt.png) and Rainbowdashfanboi84 (https://i.imgur.com/FEf4QHC.png) have been given their jawas. Sorry it took so long.

Granite, 128.

Another glorious year in Rashvir! This year I was chosen to be Overseer. Looks like a good year ahead, Wertyzerty pierced the aquifer and Dunamisdeos started the military, so now we may be able to start on nonessential tasks. I can't seem to find a cantina here, I'll set one up to attract visitors.

A pair of Yuuzhan Vong (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Yuuzhan_Vong) bandits have arrived!

I sent Rainbowdash's squad after it, but they got away. At least they didn't grab anything. There's a lot of job cancellations. Apparently we need thread and coal.

Also, Murtaugh is wearing a little crown now and that's hilarious.

The trade caravans have arrived and a miller had a baby. In other droid news, our R-H029 sifter droid (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/R-H029_sifter_droid) has slipped into depression. I have no idea where to begin treating a depressed vacuum cleaner.

A scholar has entered a strange mood. Ha, we have stone now! Do your worst, madness plague!

A clone trooper took up residence in our fort for the purpose of killing monsters. That should be interesting. I've purchased all the animals the traders had. Also a bunch of plants and a barrel of cloth. Still no rancors, though.

Finally, I accidentally locked all these jawas in a side room while trying to stop the brokerbot from escaping. Whoops.

Slate, 128

Another clone, a rebel axeman and a wookiee have joined us as beast hunters. Maybe I should open the caverns just so they can do that. The madness plague has now resulted in a fine granite table, for we have tamed it to our will.

I also realized at the last minute that I didn't get all the trader's animals last month, so before they could leave I bought the remaining Tuk'ata (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Tuk%27ata) and Falumpaset (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Falumpaset) in exchange for the rest of our gems and a ridiculously heavy metal statue of Dunamisdeos getting fired.

Spoiler: Statue (click to show/hide)

I don't know why he was removed, but I promoted him back to captain of the guard. The sifter droid's growing depression caused it to throw a tantrum. It tried to start a fist fight, but then it remembered that it doesn't have hands. That's just tragic.

The tavern is done. I've had all the walls engraved as well.

That moment when you want to rage at the world and punch something and you have no limbs to punch with. Star Wars droids normally thank the maker, but this one is blaming the maker.

Felsite, 128

Not much happened this month.

I'm not sure who approved the guard's tactics.

That droid is still depressed, despite this awesome room I made for it.

In light of the various beast hunters we've got, I've made a path into the caverns.

It includes dual-layered drawbridges and a hall of cage traps, so I expect it should be safe enough.

Finally, the mayor has ended a mandate banning the export of figurines. I don't think we actually have any, but I'm sure it makes him feel important.

Nice starter defenses- but the question is: how would they fair against force wielding Dathomir Nightsisters riding atop War Rancors (and is that a thing)?

Not as a real civ, no. Maybe I should make them sometime. Nightsisters do exist, however. So do War Rancors.

Hematite, 128

Some stormtrooper thieves came by, but they didn't get anything. A rearing spider (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Rearing_spider) infiltrated Rashvir through a different hole leading into the central shaft,  Thankfully, nobody was hurt. Our depressed robot even got to be a bit of a hero.

I ordered that grates be put over the hole, and also took a look at the river.

Bones fill the riverbed and the wall is stained red with blood. Fear us, slap-fish. Fear. Anyway, the path into the caverns is done. I'm sure nothing will ever go wrong with it, thanks to my insurmountable defenses.

For some reason, a bunch of jawas immediately trooped down there to retrieve objects and dead animals. Maybe I should forbid that.

However, they should be safe with all these monster hunters headed down.

We have a new mayor. Too bad, I liked the old one. He just kept mandating figurines.

It's just like the one from DF vanilla. It is terrifying. Also, THIS GUY (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Wicket_Wystri_Warrick) apparently used to win spear-fights with him, making Wicket W. Warrick on par with most legendary dwarf weaponmasters.

Malachite, 128

The beast hunters finally found what they were looking for. For one, the hunt went well.

However, our ewok met a rancor.

(Note:That was the entire fight.)

He didn't stand a chance. The rancor ambushed him while he was drinking and killed him in a matter of seconds. However, it thankfully wasn't too hungry after that. Everyone else was able to get away without being attacked. The rancor then wandered up to our cavern entrance and was promptly grabbed by a cage trap.

Jawas of Rashvir, we have a rancor.

Weirdly enough, almost the exact same thing happened a few days later, except the unfortunate hunter was a Shistavanen (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Shistavanen/Legends) rebel who picked a fight with a bonzami.

But he already has a name. The Jawas titled him Inotayoli after he ate that ewok.

Galena, 128

I've set up a temple level for the various religious needs of the fort. I've represented the foreign gods that a few worship with a little hall of shrines.

A clone trooper scored a win for the hunters down in the caverns.

I've noticed that one of the hunters is actually an unarmed Gungan noblewoman with no real combat skills. I, er, wish her good luck. She says she once killed another gungan, though I'm not sure what the circumstances were.

Another hunter casualty, a trandoshan rebel. He attacked a pack of Hssiss (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Hssiss) and was mauled after crippling one of them. I sent the squad down to finish the job. Before they could get there, our Gungan lady consort was mauled to death as well.

At least the squad effortlessly took care of both lizards before they could hurt anyone else.

I've dug out a new chamber off the central shaft for training our new beasts. They're caged here for now, and I have cage traps just in case anything goes wrong.

Now a Wookiee hunter has fallen after a krykna (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Krykna) landed a few lucky shots to his head. Sad to see all these hunters go, but I guess this is the career they wanted.

The krykna then wandered off and bit off a construction droid's foot while inflicting major damage on the rest of her. I strongly suspect the droid would have died if she was organic. Eventually, the guards put a stop to it.

Autumn has come.

Limestone, 128

We have come under attack! The Yuuzhan Vong (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Yuuzhan_Vong) have arrived in force to exterminate us alongside a horde of their beasts.

I'm most worried about their quednak (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Quednak) mounts, those are enormous. We have hardly anything that can stand against this horde, but I did deploy the squad to the gate as those jawas and pets that were on the surface at the time retreated. Not a single loth-cat or fisherjawa was left behind. (Although a loitering loth-cat only got in at the last second.)

The bonzami and Guardsteam the rancor have been slightly trained, so they should be able to wander around safely. Thankfully, our clan knew how to train them already. I gave Guardsteam some quick war training and assigned him to Rainbowdashfanboi. Since they can't get in, the Vong army has set up camp on a northern hill.

Down in the caverns, a second rancor killed a clone trooper hunter and a valet droid. I sent the squad after it. The first elite cutter to reach it fought hard and crippled the thing, but was eventually overwhelmed and killed. On a related note, I take back anything disparaging I might have said about biting classes.

After being badly burned by the squad and knocked out by our jawa biter, the monster was easily finished off.

Thanks TalonisWolf, I'm looking forward to seeing that.

Early-to-mid Sandstone, 128

Well, we're under siege. I've had a few other projects taken care of while we wait here. I've decided to take care of the lack of bedrooms, and started a new set of housing in the sub-aquifer section of the fort.

The droids will be included, of course. Even though they don't sleep. A child was stung twice by viper wasps while playing make believe in TalonisWolf's tomb. Serves them right. They'll be fine.

I've got an idea for dealing with the Vong army. See, their army is camped out on this hill.

They're spending pretty much all of their time in that spot. I'm thinking we can dig out a tunnel underneath them.

If my plan works, I'll dig the floor out from under them with a controlled cave-in and drop most of them into a pool made from the aquifer. It probably won't work. Plan B is to slowly trap a bunch of cave monsters, move them up with the approach tunnel, and then let them out to wear down the Vong. Plan C is to cry and hope some friendly Jedi show up.

A trap went off in the caverns, we got a laigrek. (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Laigrek) It's no bonzami or rancor, but it's nice to have I suppose.

Late Sandstone, 128

Work on the trap continues, but a complication has arrived.

A Gorax (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Gorax/Legends) is on the march. Unable to get into our fort, it began to approach the Vong army.

I had hoped for an epic battle, but it was not to be. The Gorax took one look at the Yuuzhan Vong horde and tried to retreat. The bored aliens then chased it down. A few quednaks got there first and one left it severely stunned with a blow to the head. A shot to the foot then brought the Gorax down and an amphistaff (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Amphistaff) to the gut kept it there. After that, the horde tore it apart.

Thankfully, the Vong returned to the killzone as soon as they were done.

Timber, 128

Some good news to start off Timber, Wertyzerty gave birth to a girl.

Not much to say about this month. Everyone who can is toiling away at my deathtrap. It's coming along nicely, there's only some channeling and linking up levers left to do.

On the surface, a strange rot is affecting many of the Vong's beasts.

A good number of the quednaks even died. Apparently, the cause is overexposure to their blorash jellies (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Blorash_jelly). They're somewhat corrosive.

Title: Re: The Jawa Fortress of Rashvir, Deathstar:The Yuuzhan Vong War.

Luthuthra (https://i.imgur.com/g22c2lt.png) it is, then. You also have two sons, one adult and one child. I've also redorfed Imic (https://i.imgur.com/hzhls4d.png) as a new bone carver.

Moonstone, 128

The trap seems to be complete. All that remains is a bit of testing. I could have tried digging out the ground under the Vong horde, but that wouldn't get all of them. Instead, I'm doing this.

The main chamber of the trap is seen here. Once the support's lever is pulled, it should collapse into the drowning pool underneath.

First, I'm going to let the Vong into the fortress, heading over the southern bridges. Then they have to go down an excessively long hallway to enter the fortress itself.

Once the army is fully inside the hallway but not yet inside the fort, I'll activate Stage One.

That bridge will be raised, preventing entry. Before the army can escape, Stage Two will be activated.

The southernmost drawbridge will raise, preventing exit. Finally, Stage Three will trigger the cave in. It also activates a random drawbridge in the middle of the hallway, for some reason. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

The squad will be posted at the exit from the hallway, just in case every trap fails and the Vong enter the fortress. Some of us should at least be able to escape with that distraction.

All these levers are controlled by this control room, here.

Finally, this whole plan hinges on the Vong actually being allowed into the fortress. To do that, somebody has to be the one to bell the proverbial loth-cat. I will volunteer. Stages 1 & 2 have been tested. This will likely be my last entry. Here I go.

Well, that didn't go as expected. I opened up the wall and ran as fast as I could. I actually made it back alive! However, the Yuuzhan Vong have been infuriatingly cautious. Instead of all of them entering the killzone, only an advance squad went inside. I've had to activate Stage One to keep them out. Trying to figure out the best way to get all of them in here. Still, Vong troops have entered the base.

On another note, the rot is really getting bad in their camp. All but two of the quednaks are dead, and the Vong themselves are starting to feel it.

Opal, 128

I couldn't seem to tempt more than a few Vong into the deathtrap at once, so I used a lever left over from construction to isolate their advance squad inside and sent our troops to kill them.

The Vong were stronger and better equipped, but in the end they couldn't match the skill of our fighters. The entire advance squad was slain, with no deaths on our side. However, Rainbowdash was badly wounded. To his credit, Rainbowdash refused to pass out until the last Vong died. He even tore one's leg apart with biting.

As the wounded were recovered and the dropped gear collected, I received great news. When their scouts failed to return, the rest of the Yuuzhan Vong decided it was time to leave. Their camp is gone, aside from all the dead animals.

We win.

Obsidian, 128.

Rainbowdash was brought to the hospital. He'll live, but he'll never walk again without a crutch. His rancor is currently watching over him as he rests. *Edit, he eventually recovered and returned to his duties. He's now leading training demonstrations while covered in bandages, stitches, and splints.

To finish up my turn, I'm working on the bedrooms. I also found the results of a forgotten order for statues, so I put up a bunch of those. I've also built a dormitory for those who don't yet have a bedroom.

We've got a Forgotten Beast in the caverns. It's not coming up right now, though. It did manage to easily defeat a bonzami.

And with that, my term comes to an end. I think it went pretty well. Nobody died from the siege and a lot of construction was completed. My only regret is never getting to fire the deathtrap.

Murtaugh? What? It's 6AM, what are... Oh, it's our turn for oversser again.

Ok this is fine. Let's just wake up, unpause and...

Time to build some kind of ridiculous murder machine, then. Must be Primeday (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Primeday).

After realizing that we apparently have quite a few legendary fusion-cutterers who are also expert dodgers, and that Geonosians (which chrome really wants to auto-correct to "Georgians") are approximately the same size as a jawa but lacking any of their inborn ability to murder the piss out of things with a welding tool, I just parked our military in the trade room to pick off invaders as they sauntered by.

But we've already got a ridiculous murder machine all set up and ready to go up north.

WE NEED MORE, SIR.

Ok so, they sent a couple of war reeks ahead, and those were promptly chopped to pieces.

I looked away for a minute, and then came back to find that one of the war reeks has inexplicably caught fire right in the middle of the geonosian war host.

Right around half of the geonosians, though very few of the war animals, appear to have perished.

Title: Re: The Jawa Fortress of Rashvir, Deathstar
Post by: Enemy post on February 14, 2018, 08:17:57 pm
That's bizarre. I have no idea how that could have happened, unless there's another creature there that could start it. Are there any Mandalorians on the map right now? And only one reek exploded, but not all of them?
Title: Re: The Jawa Fortress of Rashvir, Deathstar
Post by: Dunamisdeos on February 14, 2018, 08:30:41 pm
Ah, it looks like a wild flamethrower droid moseyed on by and decided to join the fun, thereby toasting half an invasion.

I'm going to build a statue to him and put him near the entrance to terrify future invaders.

I'll tell you hwat though, the incident did stop the geonosians from camping at the edge of the map, and they are now heading for the ridiculous deathtrap. I have my priorities straight, and decided to make some crude geonisian graphics. They came out like weird little ET's with wings.

Update:
This just keeps getting better. After a womp rat tore a geonisian to pieces, this guy shows up.

Spoiler: He's adorable (click to show/hide)

The jawa militia sallied forth to assist him in his quest for justice and geonisian blood. Sadly, he perished in the fighting, and we lost one adequate cutter. The rest of us spanked the remaining geonosian army properly, killing them to the man (bug?). Even Rainbowdash took out a couple of Reeks.

Not so sadly, we now have a steel, silver-colored lightsaber to go around. It shall be awarded to the jawa that accrued the most geonosian kills. Wags received notable injuries, but nothing permanently debilitating or mortal. She is tied for the most, and also is named. Wags' lightsaber training begins now.

We conscripted a beast hunter with previous cutter skill to replenish our military numbers.

It looks like the last thing to happen today was some beasts (and a forgotten beast) snuck in through the caverns to cause some violent ruckus. It was dealt with by the J-team of super-cutter jawa badasses. Tosid, the slayer of the beast, named his cutter as a result.

Ok Murtaugh, so what we are going to do is build a giant blender.

*Murtaugh beeping frantically*

They must have heard me signing the "just send the Super Violence Welder Squad and forget about it" orders, because they immediately left. Must have been on their way to somewhere else.

Ok let's see, the blender should be dedicated to another mechanical engine of death.... we'll incorporate the statue of the unnamed flamethrower droid into it.

*Murtaugh beeping insistently*

What? A request for justice? What am I, the sheriff of... oh, right.

After eight months of hard labor, the GIANT BLENDERNATOR is nearly complete. Part grand entryway to the settlement, part puree-generating glory.

I don't know what to do with the rest of my turn, but Wags is getting really good with that lightsaber really fast.
It's good to know that the militia can learn so fast, becuase:

At any rate Wags took six months to become a master swordsjawa. Quite the progidy. Also, here's where our breeding pair of rancors are bring kept. There must be a rancor pit eventually.

Finally, we traded for some bars of gold/platinum/sterling silver. Turned those into crafts for later trading. Final thing: the vong returned, but also immediately left. The siege tag remains. Are we in bug trouble? DF-Hack is activatable since i have the newb pack, is there a fix we can try if necessary?

Seems similar. Anyway time is still advancing, I guess it's fine? About to end my turn.

BAM. Turn's done. The military is spread from competent to adept, with Wags already at legendary, somehow. There's a trapdoor near the magma forges that is in no way related to the sudden ceasing of cancellation spam from certain droids.

What else.... there's an extra food basement, rancor pasture, did that... I guess that's it. I really wanted to try the blender, I'm sad that the stormtroopers left.

So I just opened up the save earlier and it says that there's a siege going on but there are no invaders?

I see a few posts talking about this bug. This one (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=158968.msg7063681#msg7063681) suggests having the militia wander around the border of the map to flush out hidden stragglers.

That picture's great, TalonisWolf. I like all the teeth in the rancor's mouth. What's that case on the ground next to the Ewok?

The case is supposed to be First Aid Kit from the Star Wars Battlefront games (Pre-EA).

Time was still passing during the siege tag bug or whatever that is, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I had the siege bug persist for around 3 months in my regular vanilla DF game after all the gobbos were killed, so maybe it'll just go away.

If I'm dead again, I swear...

Me? run the fort? Alright, I'm not a leader type but I can maintain a fortress I guess. Here are the first few, days? Weeks? I lost count. Anyway.

The first thing I do is address the siege glitch, I sent the militia to walk around the edges of the map, and there were no invaders, as I suspected.

Then I give the (new?) mayor a small dining room he considers as "Royal". https://ibb.co/iks8Vx (I don't know how to do the images so you'll have to bear with these links.)

I noticed that the rancors have new young! https://ibb.co/iHavAx https://ibb.co/drytxc Hurray! I'll wait 'til the young rancors grow up before we start work on the new rancor pit.

I got a petition from Urist Wheeltail https://ibb.co/jSUYxc (https://ibb.co/drytxc) saying that he wants to join The Constructs of Menace as a citizen of Deathstar. Huh, seems legit, I approve his request.

I start furnishing the empty bedrooms in preparation for new migrants (sorry no pic.) A couple of days later, Kubuk Thobelbel gets taken by a strange mood, and claims a craftdwarf's workshop (https://ibb.co/h3C8Vx) and creates Onulorshar Ethaddodok (https://ibb.co/drytxc), wow that's, neat I guess. A Stray Tauntaun died of starvation. (https://ibb.co/hQoRHc)

The carpenters are saying that they need logs to make the beds (https://ibb.co/fYvTVx), but they have plenty (https://ibb.co/kQf6Hc) so I assigned some trees to be cut due to the "Lack of wood".

A forgotten beast (https://ibb.co/hgkvAx) wandered into the caves today, but eventually it left.

I'm trying to figure out how to make a baby Rancor look adorable to the average person (I find Tarantulas and Pythons adorable, I am NOT average). Everything I'm imagining is more hilarious than adorable.

That is too reminiscent to some creatures from horror games I played so long ago I don't remember their names. Those creepy things wandering up, dropping baby versions to hunt and slow me down... shudders

...yeah, not adorable at all.

I'll take one more turn.

Hematite, 130.

Robotala was unable to complete his term as overseer, so I have taken command for the remaining nine months of his term. The first thing I noticed is that this is probably the most clearly labeled lever I have ever seen.

Just as I took over, the ewok-eating rancor and the bonzami we tamed from the caverns went rogue. A former beast hunter turned soldier sliced away an arm and a hand from the rancor with his lightsaber before being decapitated. After that, the lightsaber-equipped troops quickly eliminated the threat. Rainbowdash had to take down his own rancor personally, by knocking it unconscious with a swift blow to the forehead before finishing it off.

(Image edited for brevity)

It was good of him to put the fort's safety first, but that must have been difficult for him.

Malachite, 130

Rashvir has attracted numerous visitors, lately. I have to admit this one is my favorite.

More good news, every man, woman, child, and droid in the fortress has been successfully provided with their own bedroom, with plenty of space for more. An engineer has been taken by a fey mood.

I began digging out the rancor pit, but then things went horribly wrong.

Somebody knocked in the floor and caused a cave in. Five Jawas and a loth-kitten were in the area when it happened. Imic only suffered a nasty scar to the mouth, but almost everyone else suffered serious or lethal injuries from the fall. Construction was promptly halted.

I can't believe I was responsible for this.

Galena, 130.

We have to finish the pit. Those Jawas will not have died in vain.

The artifact was finished, it's a quartzite mechanism.

I've also dispatched the squad to go out and look for any hidden attackers, since the computers still think we're under siege. A shyrack got into the fort and caused some injuries, but nobody died.

Anyway, about that pit. I'm currently dictating on a datapad to record my thoughts as I work.

Whoops. Nobody died this time, but I almost got my neck broken. WAI-

Ok. Two lessons here. One, work doesn't necessarily stop for a cave in. Two, learn from your mistakes or you might get your foot crushed by a rock.

Limestone, 130.

Work continues on the pit.

I partially took apart the grates and reconfigured some things. Now the bridges are going in, and it seems like it's working.

Finally, our rancor herd has grown.

Limestone, 130.

I forgot I left the military outside and they almost starved to death. Whoops. I let them back in, so no harm no foul. Anyway...

Behold the power of this fully armed and operational rancor pit!

It features grates for easy viewing, two retractable bridges for dropping prisoners, (the lever is there on the side, and a bloodstained naturalistic interior. For ease of stocking it with monsters and removing unwanted inhabitants, I have added a service tunnel a bit farther down.

The only thing we lack is wild rancors to indiscriminately devour whoever we chuck in there. To that end, I'm reopening the caverns to lure some in. Not to worry, the cage traps are still active. We've got a pack of caged barghests (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Barghest), but that doesn't seem right.

Timber, 130

We've collected a laigrek from the caverns, and an artifact was completed. It's a serrated disc that the creator claimed in the name of his ancestor, Imic.

The two ghosts we had have also been put to rest and the barghest pack has been tamed. *Edit, it appears they weren't as tame as we thought. One tried to bite a rebel and had to be put down. The others have been confined to the beast training area until further notice.

Moonstone, 130.

Imic has a new niece. However, this happy event was counterbalanced by a bone carver somehow dying by getting trapped and dehydrated in the bowyer's workshop. I'm not sure how it happened.

My term's just about up. The biggest current issues are a lack of traction benches and our need for a monster to fill the pit. The siege is offically over now, so that's going well at least.

A Yuuzhan Vong is visiting us in peace. From her armor, it appears she has joined the Mandalorians and thus is not allied with our enemies.

Opal, 130.

Some migrants arrived, for the first time in a while. I also finally got the traction benches set up. Now the doctors can finally fix my foot.

Obsidian, 130.

For my last month, I'm having the walls of the temple section smoothed and engraved. A carpenter has been possessed, but not much else of interest happened this month.

Here's the save. (http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=13603)
