Expanded Health Care
« on: June 21, 2009, 11:43:59 pm »

I've got a few thoughts on health care.

I'll start with the simplest.  In Afganistan under the Taliban, women were only allowed to be operated on by a doctor if that doctor was their husband.  Thus, most women were denied basic health care.

LCS has Free Clinics and a Women's Rights Issue.  Perhaps at C+ Women's Rights issue women are denied the use of the Free Clinics and Hospitals (except in the case where they're so injured they default to "Visit Free Clinic", mainly to avoid bugs and make programming easier).  It reminds us how bad things can get.  Perhaps Androgynous and liberals without their birth genders could be denied health care at C+ Gay Rights.

Now, on to my complicated suggestion: Repair of permanent injuries!

I suspect it would be harder to program the repair of permanent injuries into the university hospital.  Which is fine, as most of that work takes place in specialist complexes adjacent to the hospital, thus a new location, "Specialist Drive" or somesuch could be used if needed.

Of course, the injuries should have cost proportionate to the state of the country.  Also, time needed to recover should be proportionate to the state of the country, as there's a finite number of medical personnel and facilities.  Ergo, it costs more the more Covervative the country is, but takes less time due to greater personal attention and resources devoted to each patient.  We have things today that are significant improvements over the permanent injuries, such as dental work for missing teeth so Liberals look better, skin grafts for "missing" faces, artificial limbs so Liberals are more mobile, etc.

What would be really great is some kind of system so medical treatment got better over time, to represent progress.  Perhaps the animal testing and genetic testing issues could assist, but that seems overly complicated.  For example, at say 2050, missing eyes can be totally replaced.

I know these are probably long-term goals, but Jonathan included the car dealership we wanted, right?

makes sence, also they have false eyes so you don't have to take an eyepatch everywhere(like a pirate). Those don't work though, and are purely to make you look better.
