Backing up, you leap onto the couch, slamming into the pile of pillows and blankets. Yep, empty. Good thing, as otherwise that would probably have really hurt both of you.

Get some of that cereal, put it in mouth repeatedly until full.

Well, with nothing better planned, you decide to go pour yourself a bowl of that new cereal graciously provided by your dormmate, rice crispies as it turns out, and sit down amongst your mass of blankets on the couch to watch TV. On flicking it on, you see some sort of broadcast error. Well, that sucks. You change the channel. No service. You try again. Still no show.

Go outside and look to the sky.

You get up from the couch and head over to the exit, opening it to take a peep outside. Nothing much has changed since you went in. The sky is overcast, and you still hear... well, nothing.

Go find one of our room mates. Knock on their doors. Call someone if we don't get any answers.

You go back up to your suite and knock on every door, but get no answer. Which you figured, since they usually leave them unlocked when they're there. You go around to the other suites, knocking on doors, but still receive no answers. Eventually you find that your RA has left his door unlocked, but does not appear to be there either. Somewhat frustrated, you get out your phone, which gives the time as 8:33 AM, but it says "looking for service."

Freak out. Find a landline in the dorm and call relatives. At the very least head outside, look around. If no people > check a random residence.

Still standing in the RA's room, you remember he has a handset for important stuff, and not an outdated minimal one like all the school wall phones. You pick it up and dial your home phone, but it rings until it goes to the answering machine. You try again. Same result. You take a deep breath. Okay, well, it's early in the morning, maybe they're at work, or still asleep. No need to get worked up. It could still be a coincidence. It's hard to think of other numbers to call on the landline, since pretty much everyone you know just has a cell phone.

Go to random houses and ring the doorbells repeatedly.

Stepping outside once again, you head North, towards the street separating these dorms from the non-campus housing. It's hardly worthwhile to try the other dorm buildings, since you don't have the card to enter them and they'd likely be fairly lifeless at this hour anyways. The street is empty (aside from one or two illegally parked cars), but that's hardly abnormal. You cross and head uphill into the midst of suburban two-story houses, and a small spattering of cars parked in driveways or on the street. Well, time to start knocking on some doors.

On the first house, you ring the doorbell, then (on receiving no answer for two minutes) you start knocking and ringing repeatedly. You don't keep this up for long, though. If someone answers, how will you explain yourself? That you got nervous about a few weird minutes of silence? No, if you're lucky, no one's home, and that way you don't look like a colossal and perhaps crazy asshole. Fortunately, after a few more nervous minutes, there's still no answer. So, no one's home. That, or they're calling the police...

Better just try somewhere else, you decide. More sedately, of course. Heading nextdoor, you see through the partially drawn curtains that the TV is on (with one of the broadcast errors you saw before sitting on the screen), yet after ringing, then knocking, you get no response. You see another TV amongst the next three houses you try, but get the same result. How can so many people be out yet forget to turn off the TV? On the fifth house you try, you can clearly hear the radio on inside, as the DJ announces the stations name before some unidentifiable song begins humming mutedly through the door.

It sounds like some kind of classic rock. You're not too good with that, but if you had to guess... "Live And Let Die"? That's the chorus line at least.

(The song isn't really a clue, but the radio is)
