Title: Undead Hunt 2: And all may be lost
Post by: Dark One on August 01, 2018, 07:17:07 pm
Undead Hunt 2
And All May Be Lost

A subtle breeze blows into your room through an open window. Shy rays of sunlight break through curtains, pushing the darkness away. You wake up and hear screams of torment. You rush out of your bed to the window to see what is happening. Is it another war, or a punishment from gods? You watch as people flee in terror from unnatural beasts, blasphemous revenants and constructs powered by arcane energy. The Sun started turning black and dripping strange ooze down. The apocalypse is now, and it won't wait for you to get your stuff together and fight!

Undead Hunt 2: And All May Be Lost is a continuation of Undead Hunt: Dark Age Upon Us. The game mechanics will remain mostly unchanged, with several checks and balances added for improved gameplay experience. This time, action of the game starts right at the beginning of the apocalypse, giving players much higher impact on the fate of the world than in previous RTD.

Sheet done. I assume that this game actually happens in the past since:
Quote
the game starts right at the beginning of the apocalypse
If this is actually after, I'll have to make another character since Nmngubgu would have died of old age.

EDIT: It's because he's Pguhyuh's ancestor and master. Wouldn't make sense for him to be still alive.

Reynald can get away with it though by pulling the “concepts transcend space and time” card.

Of course, Nmngubgu isn't going to be like Pguhyuh. While they may be related, I have completely different plans for him. Remember when I said I wanted to play something like a (slightly insane) pyromancer? He's going to be hurling demonic hellfire around as soon as I get a few levels.

I actually came up with the idea first.

Why don't you just both be pyromancers. One can never have too many explosions.

Anyway, I wrote my character sheet. It's not a peasant. I'm sorry.

*Edit, I had a better idea. I'll play Watchman instead.

**Edit, on second thought it seems too similar to Reynald. I'll make a ranger.

Never head of him beyond Googling his name just now, but playing a guard sounds interesting. I made a different character sheet.

I'll update the sheets later.

This one takes place in another chain world, not in the past. However, we all know that in UH universe everything is related, history always repeats itself and stuff from past/future even converges with present times.

Ah, So I'll have AT LEAST one successful character who will go on to become a possible miniboss while everyone else dies early on.

Oh, then my character is probably just an alternate universe version of Nmngubgu. The existence of Eylru in this particular chain could be justified by the fact that Pguhyuh ascended and probably could have been involved in it's creation in this universe. This sounds good?

Name: Iolani
Gender: Female

Appearance: Iolani is a young woman, around two decades and a half in age, and appearing much younger than that. She has a light brown complexion, and wavy, black hair. She stands at five and a half feet.

Biography: Iolani was a hunter's only daughter, raised with an upbringing that helped her into the niche of independence early in life. She was raised on the code of survival, with a perspective of respect, and a keen insight into feelings and emotions in the natural world. Her childhood was otherwise as pristine an environment a child could hone and grow their potential and skills in, raised solely by a single-parent; her father, and her second family, the community. This sense of empathy did not go unnoticed, however, as she took time during her hunts to also commune with the world around her, whether it be with what she knew of meditation, or merely appreciating the surroundings--at times, she believed, there were others around her inasmuch as the thoughts within her could communicate, and she called outward thoughts as spirits; she respected both the spirits, and the living.

Her area was blessed to have access to both the scribes and the teachers, which gave way to libraries and the study of reading, writing, and the arts. This was her escapade from monotony, and a whittling point to keep her wits as sharp as her physical skills; books were a common retreat for her, and also a constant companion in her day to day life. Driven by a thought of how important these objects and developments were, she decided to enlist herself into the local guard, both to be able to access these needs in her time, and to provide in turn, after her father had passed away.

Class: Watchman

Gender isn't nonsensical :V

Also what happened to the 'detail these characteristics that were present in the previous thread that aren't present here', like "everything for example 'encumberance'"? :P

...Snooping through the first thread just gives a:
"Over encumbered gives -1 penalty due to carrying too much." :-\
I am totally lost.

Will still edit when more info is gained.

Prologue

The air was filled with the smell of electrified sulphur. It was visible from every part of the Underworld, a warp in reality so big that entire armies could pass through it at once. There was a platform spanning from fortifications of a gigantic black citadel in front of it. A tall humanoid lizard covered with feathers ascended the platform and watched as inhabitants of its dark kingdom gather upon the portal.

Citizens of the Underworld! The long awaited gates are open! Some souls within the mortal world were gifted by the Lords of High Heavens! Their spirits were turned into energy vessels of great capacity! I, Urnash the Feathered, King of the Underworld announce the beginning of our long awaited tournament! The one who would bring me as many skulls of gifted mortals as possible will become the next ruler of these blackened lands! - the dark king have spoken, and after countless screams and howls seen here as applause, the armies moved forth to the portal.

It was a second week of a strange solar eclipse. The blackened sun seemingly started bleeding a dark ooze down the earth, corrupting everything touched by it. People of Churchbury have stocked up on every possible resources and it's only a matter of time before the city would be under total anarchy. The city watch is trying to keep order on the streets, and the Church of Nix is supplying people with anything that they can give. A dark, stormy cloud covers the entire sky. People think that it's a godsend after two weeks of scorching heat. But then the lightnings started tearing the realm, opening countless gates between the mortal world and the Underworld. Demons, dark spirits and the undead quickly launched an assault on nearly all existing settlements at the same time.

The great horde approached the gates of Churchbury. Anyone brave enough to defend the city was armed and sent to the fortifications. The last influx of peasantry fleeing from smaller village and travelers from far lands was allowed inside before the gates were closed for good. Then, the siege began...

GM Notes

You may start at: Fortifications, streets, random building, outside the city walls (challenge), in front of city gates and in the Church of Nix.

Jack had been working for the Churchbury Church of Nix recently, going out and reporting back on the effects of the Blacksun Ooze, as it had been dubbed, in the hopes that a cause and a cure could be determined. At the moment the Cloud arrived, he'd been just inside the city gates, on his way to the Church. After a rushed visit, he made his way to the fortifications above the gate, preparing to defend the city as best he could.

Jack Frost is starting at the fortifications.

I was going to edit my sheet depending on the characteristics of the skills and unique things on the classes. :-\ They still aren't there and I understand nothing about encumberance, heavy, parry, might hack, or otherwise. Would love to build my character sheet knowing what she has rather than assuming what is present which can commonly be askew to what the GM intends; hope everything is ok for an edit in the OP for that!

I mean alongside that, hopefully there's also the possibility of despite being in combat, you can choose to use the environment or disengage all the while seeing enemies. Because that's the sole reason I'm picking Outside.

Iolani was hunting at the time of the sudden incursion; hopefully her skills in tactics and otherwise will help as she is outside during the assault.

Encumbrance - as mentioned, three items in your inventory with encumbring tag make you overencumbered, giving you penalty to all movement actions.

Heavy - gets a small speed penalty.

Parry - gets a parrying bonus.

Mighty Hack and almost all tags appearing at the end of weapon descriptions are special attacks akin to skills. Every class can perform them, they don't have any cooldowns, and they give only a minor advantage over normal attacks.

I've explained those things in the previous game.

You could always use the environment in the previous game and I don't see why it should be different here.

Could all these details be placed in the OP in this game? Because I had searched through the last game as noted in my posts here, and I only found indirect or incomplete descriptions. :-\ Or the difference between parrying (or what it is, here), to the other attack-characteristics.
Not to mention that the benefits regarding these characteristics aren't...clarified either.

Increased encumbrance is exactly what it says - it allows you to carry more encumbring items.

Turn 1

The dark age have begun! Armies of demons, undead monstrosities and dark spirits are preparing to attack Churchbury. The living have mere hours of moderate peace before the bloody harvest will start!

A strange blue skinned man in a dark blue cloak had been working for the Churchbury Church of Nix recently, going out and reporting back on the effects of the Blacksun Ooze, as it had been dubbed, in the hopes that a cause and a cure could be determined. His name was Jack Frost, known across the whole world as a quixotic wanderer, great explorer and seeker of arcane.  At the moment the Cloud arrived, he'd been just inside the city gates, on his way to the Church. After a rushed visit, he made his way to the fortifications above the gate, preparing to defend the city as best he could. On the contrary to foolish members of the city watch. They were peeking their heads out of the safe fortifications, and with excitement placed bets who would kill the highest amount of demons. Jack sensed something unusual in a jovial looking, barrel chested hunter with a beard. The man was wearing a chainmail and held a crossbow proudly. He wasn't the usual shmuck hastily put inside an armour and called a guard. The other watchmen spoke to him with respect. His name was Sandford as Jack overheard.

After making his way out of a remote observatory, a middle aged man in full plate stopped in a small hill just outside a great city. He was seeking the first wave of Underworld armies and found it - it was between him and the settlement. The man didn't even try to hide or run to the gates, none of the creatures dared to bother him. Sandford loaded his crossbow and peaked out, overtly eager for the incoming slaughter. He noticed the man and instantly alarmed other guards. Jack decided to take a look as well and noticed that the man shows striking resemblance to the legendary Inquisitor Reynald.

A young and curious man with white curly hair and pale skin, wearing a pair of glasses and an extravagantly looking robe had only arrived to the streets of the city recently after his long journey from the east. Unable to speak the language of these lands, he was searching for a library in which to find information regarding the legendary creatures known as demons. He could see that something big was about to happen, he couldn't understand any of the screams though. The pig-like, raspy accent of local people wasn't the most pleasant for him. The young man took a small glowing crystal with "Nmngubgu Sugnta" engraved on it out of his bag. It was glowing red, which according to remains of a manuscript he once read in an eastern library, indicated demonic presence nearby. A man covered in rags approached Nmngubgu and hugged him. "Eastern brother! I thought that I would never see any of you again!"

A tall and remarkably handsome man in dark robes entered the Churchbury's Church of Nix and took a seat on a bench. He knew about the coming of the end times and prepared himself. The man never was the one to head straight to a fight, he was reading notes which he wrote down after waking up from his recent dreams. Since early childhood, a strange man was haunting him while he was asleep - the notes contained his words. Only after he was done with reading had he realized that all the people around were watching him. They recognised the robes he was wearing and were afraid. The Dark Circle was a union of sorcerers whose motives remained unclear for those who couldn't harness energies, thus it was banned from most of the kingdoms. He decided to move to a side chapel and hide within a group of people. Another member of The Dark Circle entered the church. "Solomon Blackguard!" the man shouted from afar trying to spot him, The Dark Circle tried to seek him out due to disobedience. Solomon ignored his calls, trying to clear his mind and gather energy before the apocalypse. The man in his dreams warned him that demons are able to harness much more power than mere street magicians.

A young woman with light brown complexion and wavy black hair was hunting at the time of the sudden demonic incursion. She hid in the bushes with a deer she just tried to hunt down. It seemed that the animal was much more afraid of hellish invaders than the hunter. The woman hoped that her skills and tactics will help her in this dire situation. Suddenly the doe spoke: "So the hunter is now the hunted? Don't be afraid and listen carefully Iolani, as presence of dieties weakens with every second! My name is Waerghulf, I am the God of Hunt speaking through this animal. There is a holy man nearby, a knight in shining armour sent from High Heavens! Seek him out and together you shall hunt down the demons! Go now!" and ran out, distracting the monstrosities. Trusting her instincts, Iolani jumped out of the bushes and found the middle aged man in plate armour.

Masses of people decided to hide in Churchbury's Church of Nix when the apocalypse was incoming. An average looking man wearing a tattered suit, made his way to a platfrom in front of church's main altar, clutching a book in his hand. Priests tried to stop him and argued that it won't help now, but he did not listen. He finally went up a platform, gathered as much air in his lungs as he could, and screamed: "I told you so!" his voice was echoing throughout the whole church and everyone could hear it

[1] An ugly man wearing bright pink clothes with an eye burningly yellow vest and vomit green hood was sitting in a prison cell. Suddenly a bunch of guards appeared. One of them said: "Arror Blazzup! By the king's order, you are freed from prison and assigned to a city defense unit!" and opened the cell.

[5] "Here's your equipment, straight from royal treasury!" the guard gave him a set of crimson plate armour with a tower shield, a combat dagger adorned with jewels, an ominously looking sword with thorns on it's handle, an amulet with a huge ruby and a lantern. "To the fortifications! Off with you!"

Oh, good lord! Apparently, it's good to be a peasant!

Anyway, search the horizon for beasts and monsters; if I see any, alert the guards, and take aim.

Sandford greets Reynald from the walls.

"Well met, traveler! Sorry we can't give you a proper welcome, but it seems there's about to be a bit of demon trouble. I see you've got a sword. You here to help with the monsters, by any chance?"

Reynald wouldn’t respond to the greeting, being too far off to hear it over the sounds of the army before him. The army he was going to weaken and delay.
Time to start softening up the enemy. Draw my short bow and start picking off targets as I can, with a preference toward undead.

((We are apparently, extremely farther out :P))

Reynald would have been seeking out the first wave, and thus be outside the city walls as the portals opened and the armies of darkness spewed forth.
Iolani came upon who she assumed was the person Waerghulf, the God of the Hunt, mentioned. He was turned away from her, looking into the distance at the oncoming enemy. He lacked a helmet and full protection, but she could see the shine in both his hair and plated armor.

Knowing that a conversation would assumedly interrupt his concentration, she drew her shortbow and followed him in stride. At least she could see the surroundings more from her current position.

Activate Tactics, and somehow "Crushing Strike"...with my bow. Aim for enemies I am sure to neutralize.

Turn 2

Arror Blazzup

[1] To the fortifications ran Arror, unaware of the curse placed upon his armour. As soon as he got there and peaked his head out to see the hostile armies, a powerful force pulled him into the Abyss!

[2] Venturing forth through the realms of malice, terror and pain, the same force pulled him again. To a fortress of flesh and bone, where all hope may be gone. He flied through an open gate, where the dark rider was awaiting. "A mortal in the armour of wraiths, aggravating! For the rest of your miserable life you will serve me, and further, till the end of eternity!" the dread knight have said.

Jack Frost

[4] Jack observed the horizon in search of enemies. It wasn't a troublesome task, armies of the Underworld were just outside city walls! He alerted other guards. "Yeah, we can see them!" one of them spat out.

[1] The wanderer took aim just when a catapult hurled a corpse right at him! The dead slammed with Jack with enough force to throw him off the fortifications!

Sandford

Sandford yelled to the knight he could see in the distance: "Well met, traveler! Sorry we can't give you a proper welcome, but it seems there's about to be a bit of demon trouble. I see you've got a sword. You here to help with the monsters, by any chance?" He did not respond though, he might have not heard his shout. "Well, looks like they aren't interested in talking. Now then, let's see how you lot were planning to shoot..."

[5] The wanderer inquired about tactics and shooting techniques of the city watch. Seeing many imperfections and fallacies in them, he instructed them on proper defense and shooting, doubling their effectiveness!

Reynald Law-Keeper & Iolani

Someone shouted from the city walls, but Reynald wouldn’t respond to him, being too far off to hear him over the sounds of the army before him. The army he was going to weaken and delay.

[Reynald: 3 +1, Undead Soldier: 1, Undead Soldier: 6, Impling: 5] The watchman noticed an easy target within the enemy lines - a typical undead grunt. He took aim, targeting at its head, and shot! The arrow pierced a rotting eye and flied through the skull, then bounced off the armour of another undead soldier. A lesser demon noticed from where the arrow flied and chucked a sparkbolt back to Reynald!

[6] Reynald was able to dodge the speeding bolt of sparks with ease. However, the dried grass he and Iolani were standing on have immediately ignited!

[Reynald: 1, Iolani: 1] Parts of their clothes have set ablaze as if they were soaked with oil!

Arthur Stanford

"But The Lord will forgive you for your sins against him and his people, This is the Armagedon and as The Lord man we will be prepared, when those armies of Satan will come we will fight in the name of our Lord and we will hold in this house of prayer!" - Arthur have preached.

[4] Nearly all the frightened souls in the church found wisdom in the words of the doom prophet. Citizens started gathering resources required to change the Church of Nix into a true fortress!

Nmngubgu Sugnta

[2] With a confused look in his face, Nmngubgu tried to answer in his own language. "...Hu, fbeel. V qba'g ernyyl haqrefgnaq. Jub ner lbh ntnva? Qb V xabj lbh sebz fbzrjurer?" The man stared at the demiurge in confusion.

[5] "And I thought that it'd go easily... the man said, took a note out of his pockets and handed it to Nmngubgu. It was one of those "Wanted" posters... with demiurge's portrait and name on it. Someone needed help in finding him out, and those interested should meet in "Taffing Blaggard" inn. Curiously, the note said that no harm should be done to the newcomer from the east. There is a seemingly small cottage outside the city walls. It is standing atop a hill that overlooks local swamps, to the north. A magician called Seymour the Amethyst and his daughter Lydia live there. The girl is a wise woman, she received a vision showing that you will come here, and that you are being followed by members of the Dark Circle. They offer you protection, as well as exchange of knowledge. Should you believe in words of a lowly drunkard that wanted to change his miserable life, head to Northern Gate through Old Quarter and go to the hut." The man disappeared before Nmngubgu could process all his speech, but demiurge felt that he didn't lie.

Solomon Blackguard

[4] Solomon had no troubles blending in with the crowd, as if he wasn't wearing Dark Circle's robes at all! He skimmed through the notes that The Man gave him. He didn't have to read them, as the knowledge contained within somehow just flown into his mind. The demiurge learnt more about all the possible ways to kill a demon!

Enemies:

Undead Soldier: -20 HP [30/50]

Players:

Nmngubgu: Received "Help Wanted Poster"
Reynald Law-Keeper: Ablaze (-2HP per turn) -2 HP [38/40]
Jack Frost: -15 HP [5/20]
Solomon Blackguard: Basic Demonology (+20 damage against demons, permanent bonus)
Iolani: Action Interrupted! Ablaze (-2HP per turn) -2 HP [38/40]
Arthur Stanford: +1320 followers, +384 Resources required to improve Church defenses [384/150], Estimated upgrade time: 2 turns

GM Notes

"Ubyq ba, V pna'g ernq guvf..."
Nmngubgu tries to express his confusion to the man, but he was already gone.

Nmngubgu cluelessly investigates the paper the mysterious man handed him. He turns and flips it around, trying to decipher the foreign symbols he was unable to understand. Giving up on the task, he memorizes the symbols ("Taffing Blaggard") and wanders around the town trying to find a sign that has the same symbols on it. What a strange language...

Turn 3

Reynald Law-Keeper and Iolani

[4] Reynald easily stopped the fire on himself and Iolani!

[Reynald: 2, Impling: 1, Brutemass: 5] The watchman attempted to shoot the lesser demon, but he wasn't quick enough to draw his shortbow! The impling hurled three sparkbolts aiming at Reynald, but he hit a nearby undead! An amalgamate of melted together rotting bodies approached the demon, grabbed it and simply thrown towards the two!

[1] Iolani tried to use her tactic mastery to get herself and Reynald into better opportunities. She didn't predict that an enormous, bloated undead would throw a demon right in her face! The impling collided with Iolani, knocking her unconscious!

Jack Frost

[1] Jack tried to rest for a moment after the fall. The corpse that he was hit with was lying just nearby. It showed no signs of life since the fall, but suddenly it started twitching and returned to undeath! The corpse stared at the wanderer with it's blank eyes and screamed!

[Reanimated Corspse: 2, Jack: 1] The undead attempted to move closer to Jack. It had troubles to do so because all of its bones were broken. Jack called for help and tried to crawl away.

[Guard: 6, Jack: 6, Reanimated Corpse: 1] "The dead are inside!" one of the guards alarmed from fortifications. "Everyone, fire!" he shouted, and defenders started shooting towards both Jack and the undead! The barrage miraculously avoided the wanderer while the undead was pierced by at least thrity arrows. Jack's head was pounding. He heard a malevolent, wrathful voice saying: "I have saved you from inevitable death, wanderer! This means that you are indebted to me! This is a truly rare opportunity for us, the gods once praised to return and forge the world anew! I am Storno, God of Warfare and Conquest. Now, restore your strength. I see a lot of potential within you!" Jack felt a strong burning sensation on his face, a blood red mark appeared on it!

Arror Blazzup

[6] "Y-Yes my lord." Arror said, Stuttering as he kneeled in front of the dread knight. "Obeying already!? So easily broken! Get up now and fight, a duel will decide your fate! the dread knight replied, taking a few steps back to assume his position and stance. It was awaiting Arror's move.

Nmngubgu Sugnta

"Ubyq ba, V pna'g ernq guvf..." Nmngubgu tried to express his confusion to the man, but he was already gone.

[5] The demiurge memorised symbols on the poster he received and strolled around the streets of Churchbury until he found what he was looking for - a large, three storey tavern with a drunken thief on its signboard.

Sandford

[Sandford: 3, City Watch: 3, Undead Army: 5] The wanderer with assistance of guards tried to shoot any monsters approaching the gates of the city. While they aimed well, all of their shots were blocked with shields or by other obstacles. It seems that the dead grasp the basics of combat well.

Arthur Stanford

[1] "Now go my borthers to faith, go bring the sick and injured of the city and all who will come to this house of prayer where our last stand against evil shall be." Arthur called, but nobody listened. No one wanted to leave and fetch sick or injured without any protection or proper training. Some even started questioning his ability to properly manage this place!

[4] Thinking about the best solution, Arthur moved up the bell tower, from where he was able to see the whole city and beyond. City Watch had secured fortifications all around Churchbury, and the evil armies are still preparing for the assault, giving them a bit more time.

Solomon Blackguard

[2] Solomon left the Church of Nix and slowly moved towards fortifications. He wanted to teach City Watch some basic demonology, so they'd be able to kill demons faster and with less casualties. However, just after he passed several streets, the man in dark circle's robes appeared! "Finally found you!" the demiurge yelled. "The Dark Circle wants you alive, spare yourself pain and go with me willingly!" he said drawing a faintly glowing short sword.

Enemies:

Dread Knight Kupameth: [256/256]

Impling: Dead
Reanimated Corpse: Dead

Players:

Reynald Law-Keeper: No longer ablaze.
Iolani: No longer ablaze, Unconscious [2 turns], -15 HP [23/40]
Jack Frost: Storno's Seal
Arthur Stanford: 234 Resources left, 1 turn to upgrade church defenses

GM Notes

Storno's Seal - +1 Taint with every kill, +1 Curse with every two kills, +1 Evil with every three kills, -1 Faith with every three kills.

“It seems you forget who I am, my friend.” Solomon replied, before crying out in a panicked voice “Guards! Guards! This man is trying to sacrifice me to strengthen the monsters outside! You have to stop him!”

What marked dark circle robes recognizable? Do they have special designs, or is it just that the person is in a hooded cloak? If it’s designs, are they on both the inside and outside, and can the cloak be altered (cut lengthened, hood removed) and still retain its protection?

I went to check and apparently I'm blind since I just noticed that the Dread Knight crazyabe is fighting is Kupameth. THE Kupameth.

Also, I wonder if Lydia and Lyirah are related.

You know, the immortal superboss who nearly one-shot the entire party in a single turn and that was the perfect counter to all of your abilities.

Things are all related in UH multiverse, but may have different origins in different worlds. That's why meeting Kupameth is possible.

Tomorrow is the last day of my summer job, I may have more time for updates, but I'll still be considerably busy.

Turn 4

Arror Blazzup

[Arror Blazzup: 5, Dread Knight Kupameth: 3] The two assumed their positions and once all the details of knightly etiquette were done, they started to fight. The peasant wildly charged at the dread knight while he was charging a lightning attack. Keeping on the momentum, Arror reached him faster than he could release the dark lightning, struck him with his tower shield and stabbed with his sword.

[6] "Very well!" said the dread knight. You have proven your worth by winning a duel to the first blood. I accept you as a warrior to the Undead Hunt! You may now go and bear the dread knight arms freely!" Kupameth got off Arror's sword and healed himself, then gave the peasant a strange blessing. "You are now able to call the hunt whenever you will need aid. I will open a portal back to Churchbury for you. May the hunt be bloody and frutiful!"

[4] The dread knight opened a rift in reality leading to the fortifications of Churchbury.

Jack Frost

[5] Jack instantly got up from the dirt and dust, then ran to nearest temple - The Church of Nix. He quickly found one of the priests and showed him the seal of Storno. "Yes, I can aid you!" said the man in ornate robes.

[3] He touched Jack's forehead and sent a charge of holy energy down his spine. "Strange... This curse is stronger than I expected, I was able to remove it only for some time. If you wish to be released completely, seek aid of our bishop, Arthur Stanford, or perhaps pray for divine intervention of Jeremiah Nix." the priest said, patting Jack on him arm.

Solomon Blackguard

“It seems you forget who I am, my friend.” Solomon replied, before crying out in a panicked voice “Guards! Guards! This man is trying to sacrifice me to strengthen the monsters outside! You have to stop him!”

[Dark Circle's Acolyte: 2, Solomon Blackguard: 5] "Stop it fool!" the man yelled and leapt at Solomon to quiet him down, but the demiurge swiftly stopped him with a dextrous punch, grabbed him and thrown against a wall of a nearby building.

Nmngubgu Sugnta

[3] "Jryy, guvf vf cebonoyl gur cynpr..." Nmngubgu, completely ignorant of what was happening around him and unable to even ask what's going on because of the language barrier, decided to knock on the door of the building and enter it.

[6] Everybody was staring at him as he went deeper inside and took a seat on a barstool. A tall and bulky man with a huge battle axe strapped to his back approached him. He took a piece of paper out of his pocket and unfolded it, then looked at the demiurge. "Ner lbh Azathoth Fhtagn, gniryyre sebz gur rnfg?"

Arthur Stanford

[3] Arthur took the tools in his own hands and aided his followers finish the constructions. As a result, barricades and fortifications were built around the church's ground floor.

Sandford

[2] Sandford tried to shoot again, but lesser demons focused on him for some unknown reason and whenever he peaked out to aim, they sent sparkbolts at him. One of the bolts hit him in face and almost blinded him, but the sparks faded millimeters before his eyes!

Reynald Law-Keeper & Iolani

[5] Reynald grabbed the unconsious watchman and dragged her away from the fire and enemies. He prayed to a diety he called "Windrock Lyirah" all this time and reached safety within the bushes from which Iolani approached him.

Players:

Jack Frost: Storno's Seal removed for 6 turns
Arror Blazzup: New ability - Call the Hunt
Sandford: -5 HP [15/20]
Iolani: 1 turn to regain consciousness
Arthur Stanford: Church of Nix - Level 1 Fortifications built

GM Notes

Dark Circle's Robes are armoured with lamella and tailored for combat and swift movement. It has an ornamented gorget that indicates one's affinity with the Dark Circle and offers additional neck protection.

Call the Hunt - summon up to 6 dread knights for 4 turns to fight against undead opponents, increases curse by 1 and taint by 5 with every use, can't be used while there are already summoned dread knights

Turn 5

Arthur Stanford

[3] "Now, we should take arms so we could defend ourselves and fight back, take whatever you can for The Lord will forgive you for it!" Arthur yelled to the masses. Peasants, scholars, women and even children - everyone prepared whatever arms they had at hand and took their positions. Archers went up the bell tower and each window had its watchman.

Jack Frost

"Thank you a great deal, sir. Where might I be able to find the Bishop?" Jack asked.

[4] "He is on a platform in front of the altar, giving out orders for believers wishing to survive!" the priest pointed at a book holding man wearing tattered clothes.

Nmngubgu Sugnta

Nmngubgu nods in both agreement and understanding. "Lrf, V nz! Svanyyl, fbzrbar gung fcrnxf zl ynathntr vafgrnq bs znxvat havagryyvtvoyr abvfrf! Sandford

[Sandford: 5, Impling: 1, Undead Soldier: 6, Horker: 6, Brutemass: 1] Sandford hastily peeked out from behind the fortifications and made an unaimed and rapid shot. The bolt hit an impling that was charging energy for a powerful bolt, lodging right in its brain. The demon exploded and chunks of melting flesh and bone shrapnels hit nearby undead and another demon. Confused and blinded, the monstrosities attacked and tore apart an brutemass - a powerful undead composed of corpses fused together.

Reynald Law-Keeper and Iolani

[5] Reynald guarded Iolani while she was unconscious. Luckily nothing approached them.

[4] The unconscious woman tried to connect with some god or spirit through her unawakened willpower. Wake up! There is no time to waste! - whispered a seemingly malicious voice, and Iolani instantly regained consciousness!

Arror Blazzup

[4] Arror went through the portal and found himself inside The Church of Nix in Churchbury. Peasants seemed to be confused by this sudden teleportation, but seeing that he wasn't aggressive, they ignored him.

Turn 5 - Subturn 1

Solomon Blackguard

[2] The demiurge attempted to leave the alley and run towards fortifications, but suddenly three city guards arrived and stopped him! The man still lying on the ground after Solomon's punch panicked, hastily got up then yelled: "We're not done yet!" and tried to run away.

[5] They immediately gave chase after the escaping acolyte. "You'll hang for treason!" one of guards shouted. After just a few moments they caught him and brought to Solomon. "This demon-loving scum won't bother you anymore!" said the guard holding him in place. After that they left, keeping their weapons at bay.

Turn 6

Jack Frost

[2] Jack moved towards the spot that the priest told him about, and when he was on the verge of speaking with the bishop, a malicious force teleported him out of the church! Jack ended up in a dirty alley teeming with rats, somewhere in the middle of Churchbury slums.

[2] "Do not try to infuriate me puny one! Play along well and I will loosen the leash on your neck!" Storno yelled, his voice seemed more metallic and loaded with power than earlier. "Head back to fortifications!"

Arthur Stanford

[4] The bishop was ready to banish any curse that burdened the poor traveller but he suddenly vanished into thin air! Arthur's focused prayer was used to give blessings to worshippers working on fortifying the church instead.

Sandford

[3] Completely surprised, the wanderer stared at his crossbow and noticed that it's faintly gleaming with blue light.

[Sandford: 4, Smoke Hunter: 5] He then aimed his weapon at one of the demons leading the assault, but it turned into smoke mere seconds before the bolt hit him!

Nmngubgu Sugnta

"N zntvpvna? Znlor fbzrbar jub cenpgvprf Nepnar Zntvp? V jbaqre vs guvf zrrgvat jvyy tvir zr zber vasezngvba ertneqvat gur rkvfgrapr bs gubfr sbervta Nepnar perngherf... Reynald Law-Keeper and Iolani

[5] Reynald rushed into battle, looking for the source of underworld invasion. He found crystal pylons generating energy and forming a portal. They must be destroyed to prevent any dark ones from coming and to cut the army from supplies!

[6] Bonelords guarding the pylons spotted Reynald! They prepared their weapons and closed the portal, but stayed on their positions!

[6] Iolani followed Reynald, though stayed at range. She tried assess the situation and predict the enemy movement but the sheer size of the army overwhelmed her! She was only able to intercept that three brutemasses and a so called "Cryptlord" are either going to strike the gates soon, or attack Reynald!

Solomon Blackguard

[6] The demiurge continued his journey to the fortifications. He moved through several streets and alleys, but he kept coming to the same places all the time. The city seemed to span like an endlessly growing maze. Solomon knew that he was entrapped, yet no hostile force revealed itself!

Enemies:

Iolani mentioned the leadership threat and planned to take them out after this guy retreats--she plans using her overall Tactics skill to bring the two of them closer to the cryptlord threat. They probably couldn't fight it alone, but they could burn the countryside to deter quite a lot of the army.

the reason I am avoiding a frontal confrontation is that each of those nasties are at least 3x stronger than our characters at this time. That is on top of there being SIX of them. also, demons are mingled wih the undead army, and neither group are particularly vulnerable or afraid of fire.

Turn 7

Jack Frost

"No. You stepped in to claim credit for luck’s hand, and deserve nothing. If you want credit, earn it." Jack replied, determined to return to the bishop.

[2] Several shadows appeared out of the blue and surrounded the wanderer! "Fool! You won't even take a single step without me saying so!" Storno roared in anger!

Solomon Blackguard

[2] ”Ok, state your name and your business bugging me. I have places to go and people to see.” Solomon asked, but no one replied.

[5] He focused for a short while and everything became clear! He sensed that a magical trinket is the source of his entrapment, a charm powered by a low ranking magician. Solomon connected with the item and following the stream of energy, cut into the magician's focus and took control of his mind!

Arror Blazzup

[6] Arror stopped standing around and stumbled off looking for things he can probably survive fighting against. He didn't had to look for long, an enormous, muscular undead weilding a great hammer ran into him! It was the Cryptlord himself!

[5] The undead lord recognised the armor Arror was clad in, bowed and set off!

Sandford

[Sandford: 5, Horker: 1] The wanderer reloaded his crossbow and peaked out from behind fortifications and shot hastily. His lucky attack hit an incoming horker in its eye, dealing severe pain!

Reynald Law-Leeper & Iolani

[1] Before Reynald could even prepare his bow, a brutemass burst from the ground right in front of him!

[Brutemass: 1, Reynald: 3] The swollen mass of stitched corpses charged, trying to knock the watchman on the ground, but Reynald managed to jump away and retaliate! He pierced through the undead with his longsword and moved clockwise to cut the monstrosity in half! The brutemass tried to push Reynald away by swinging its limbs wildly, to no effect. In a few fast moves the undead was cut into two pieces!

[1] Reynald couldn't retreat, as another of those abominations arrived!

[Brutemass: 5, Reynald: 3] The watchman tried to block an incoming punch, but it was so powerful that it knocked him onto the ground! The undead then started to punch him!

[1] Iolani was attacked by the third brutemass!

[Brutemass: 5, Iolani: 1] She had no time to react! The undead grabbed her and thrown towards the crystal guarded by bonelords. In a split second, Iolani found herself in the Underworld, surrounded by undead guarding the gateway!

Arthur Stanford

[6] Arthur moved towards the bell tower to see the advancements of demons, but upon opening the doors to staircase a shadow rose in front of him!

[2] "A man will come to seek a cure to a curse. Should you aid him, we will drag your pitiful church into the Underworld with you and all your worshippers!" the shadow muttered and vanished.

Nmngubgu Sugnta

"Gura jung ner jr jnvgvat sbe? V qba'g guvax lbh xabj, ohg jnfgvat gvzr vf ernyyl sebjarq hcba va E'ylru, nf vf oernxvat cebzvfrf! Jr qba'g jnag gb ercrng gur zvfgnxrf bs bhe naprfgbef, qb jr? Ab? Gura jr'yy qrcneg abj." Nmngubgu yelled out and left through the gate.

[6] A squad of undead knights ambushed them as soon as they left the city - four steel clad warmongers on their skeletal steeds!

did we somehow roll zeros, or did our +1 vs undead bonuses not kick in when we got ambushed by the brutemasses?
”I will not yield in the face of death. Fall by my hand, fiends!”
these brutemasses are slow and stupid, charge the one that punched me and chop off it’s arms with a crushing strike when it moves to attack me. be ready to dive out of the way of the other uninjured brutemass, since getting hit will mean the end of me.

((So my Tactics didn't work despite having cooled down, I'm now in a weird place, and JUST UGH, there could be at least any environmental descriptions or details so us players who are disconnected with the setting can be aware of what's going on! [By that I mean some detail to undead and surroundings helps, tons]

Also what Dustan said!))

Hatchet/Crushing Strike on the nearest foes, make a clear zone and get out of Underworld--unless I can handle the numerous foes around me...

Lets get some height advantage!

Turn 8

Tim

[6] Tim has just left her house, when suddenly several imps jumped out of torch flames and surrounded her! In a rush, she felt a surge of strange power. She couldn't tell whether it was of godly, or demonic origin. However, she felt much stronger! A nova of energy burst out of her, melted the demons and fusing their bodies with her own!

[Equipment roll: 6] "Fascinating!" yelled a strange voice from within herself. "Now we are one!" it said. The demons within her summoned weaponry straight out of the Underworld! An obsidian sword with demonic core, a great shield of brimstone and a demonbone bow! As for the armour, the essence of imps protected her, and as such, she will no longer be afraid of fire as it will strenghten it!

Arthur Stanford

"I'll obey no demon or fear no underworld" the bishop replied and the shade vanished.

[4] Arthur ordered parsoners to light up candles in every dark corner of the church, and then went up the bell tower!

[4] The view from above was clear. Arthur could easily spot demonic armies surrounding the town, someone fighting with undead by a crystaline portal and two travellers fighting undead knights by the northern gate.

Jack Frost

"I’m not playing your games, demon. I will not allow you to taint my soul." Jack said to Storno.

[1] "Fool! Behold the price of disobedience!" - Storno struck Jack with a lightning, killing him instantly!

[2] Just a moment later, Jack woke up in front of some dread, ruined structure. He looked around and saw that he was in the Underworld, chained to one of the pillars of the ruins.

Solomon Blackguard

"Well then... this'll be fun." Solomon said, his voice echoed throughout the magician's mind.

[1] He tried to scan the mind of the magician to learn everything about him, but the man managed to resist his power and pushed him out of his mind! Solomon was entrapped again!

Reynald Law-Keeper

”I will not yield in the face of death. Fall by my hand, fiends!” Reynald screamed and continued fighting!

[Reynald: 4 +1, Brutemass: 6, Brutemass: 6] The undead tried to fuse together into a massive brutemass, but the watchman charged with a powerful crushing strike, forcing the undead to fall apart into lifeless piles of corpses!

Sandford

[Sandford: 4, Horker: 3] This time Sandford took a while to aim more carefully and shot the demon in its stomach, killing it!

William Smith

"What the bloody hell is going on, i wake up to this loud noise and it ain't helping my headache right now, so put me in the direction that loud noise is coming from so i can get rid of it ya bunch of cowards!" William went outside of a tavern and yelled.

[1] One of the townsfolk was coming to reply to him, but upon coming closer William noticed that it was a skeleton in disguise!

[Skeleton: 1, William: 4] The undead tried to stab him with a dagger, but one solid kick fromm the demiurge made it collapse!

Iolani

Iolani looked around. She was by the same crystal portal, but everything around her was different. The land was barren and the sky rusty. She could smell sulphur and stench of death in the air.

[5] It seemed that the portal wasn't active at all and the enemies she saw around her were just a projection from the world, the portal was not guarded by any of the monstrosities! Iolani looked at the portal, it seemed that she could easily activate it and leave the Underworld!

Per the rules of Leveling, I guess I get to choose a new skill. I think I'll choose Firestarter

Firestarter

Each turn, a random chance for a fire to start somewhere in the vicinity. The Player is unaware, and cannot control this, though can also create a fire them-self, with a high chance of spreading out of control. Fires can start and continue burning in the weirdest places, even underwater.

My name is... Tim.

Start a Fire amongst the earth and dirt around me using my sword. Then go slay some demons as the fire follows in my path.

Light the Fire.. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFTqc4gxRx4)

search the dead brutemasses for anything of value, then finish off the crippled one if it isn’t killed off by someone else first.

new passive
Righteous Fervor:
Reynald’s faith strengthens his resolve, with every point of faith negating 1 point of lethal damage from any source, consuming the faith used. Additionally, killing an undead enemy restores 1 faith to him.

That's a quote from leveling up. New player skills can't modify rolls. Enemies can't modify your rolls with skills directly. They can do so due to their base enemy type, as a side result of their actions, or through use of charms. Players can also modify their rolls through charms and as side results of their actions.

Push through that darn underworld portal, complain about stuns and lacking EXP because of some ridiculous throw down, and crushing strike that last brutemass!

If I can't find anything else, why not bow and arrow something? Or just stick with Reynald? Or check the surroundings and appraise the situation thoroughly?

Or loot the corpses for stuff that I can perhaps find to help me.

Turn 9

Jack Frost

Jack sighed. "Well then. I’m dead. Ok." he said.

[5] He started twisting and turning until he slipped out of his bonds like a true master of escape!

[1] He then checked whether he still had any of his possessions or not. He had all his items with him, but it seems that they were tainted and useless! What's more, the taint clinged to his body, so he couldn't get rid of nor replace any of his items!

William Smith

"Just great, the town is infested by the undead, just my luck." William complained and moved on.

[William: 4, Imp: 2] He moved towards the closest loud noise and saw an imp trying to burn down a building. He immediately charged and hit the demon with his maul, knocking it out!

Sandford

[Sandford: 1, Brutemass: 5] The wanderer aimed at the crippled undead and shot. It could've been a perfect strike, but when the bolt was just close to the body of the brutemass, it released its deadly vapor and pushed the missile back towards Sandford!

[2] Sandford was unable to dodge and the bolt lodged in his arm!

Tim

[4] Tim drew the demon sword and made a circle in the sand around herself, creating a nova of fire. She then set off to slay demons!

[1] It didn't took long for her to find an adversary! It wasn't a demon however. It was a shade feeding upon the sorrow of widows!

Solomon Blackguard

"He kicked me out, but did he change the locks?" Solomon wondered.

[Solomon: 6, Magician: 1] The demiurge used all his power to force his way to the magician's mind. By doing so, he completely removed the man's conscious self and established an unbreakable bond between his mind and the mage's body. Solomon now has two bodies, with access to powers and memories of both of them!

Reynald the Law-Keeper

[1] Reynald searched the slain undead for anything of value. Instead of finding anything of use, he got intoxicated with the cadaver's venom!

[Reynald: 3+1, Brutemass: 2] With a swift strike, the watchman put the undead out of its eternal misery!

Arthur Stanford

[1] Arthur wanted to call anyone capable enough to fight to go to his church, but as he approached the edge of the tower, a gargoyle flied out of the blue and kidnapped him!

Iolani

[4] Iolani entered the portal and the current of energy took her back outside Churchubry's walls! She saw Reynald killing the last brutemass upon leaving the portal.

[2] She looked around and saw that she was between the bonelords and the portal!

Enemies:

Black Widow: [96/96]

Imp: -30 HP [34/64]

Brutemass: Dead

Players:

Jack Frost: Corrosive Curse!
Sandford: -10 HP [10/20]
Solomon Blackguard: Control of another host established!

GM Notes

Character sheets will be updated tomorrow.

Corrosive Curse - blocks all the statistics of equipped items, degrades the by 1 ever six turns, and make player unable to unequip them until they completely dissolve.

Since my equipment is useless, and can’t be removed until they’re broken, try breaking them myself so that I’ll be free to get new stuff. Then, look around for any items that could be used as at least makeshift armor and weaponry.
Try to de-curse my equipment. I’m pretty sure I’m worse off than a peasant without this stuff, and especially with it in this state.
Only if this isn’t possible will I try to destroy the equipment myself.

Despite that this part of the game did not went too far, I think that it is time to bid farewell to Undead Hunt and all RTD games in general. A lot has changed since last year, it is time to move on to next endeavors and challenges. I'm getting back on track with my life, which is the most important thing for me right now.

Perhaps a new Undead Hunt game will come again in the future, but for now, it's time to say goodbye!
