Some people enjoy having an internally consistent to their mods.  Also, that's just one example, another is that they want their work to shine on its own.
But this changes from person to person? Wouldn't being able to easily change the content in the game be towards that end? (This is the point of Masterwork...)

And as noted before, Meph, et al., have spent innumerable hours making sure the various components work together in no particular order... for the above points...

Depending on how cooking and eating eventually evolve, food-scraps may become a thing, and feed-bins could be used to get rid of some of your refuse as well. Goats and pigs suddenly become extremely useful.

Cold blooded killers could dispose of corpses by feeding them to pigs or other such critters (presuming there are no witnesses or that these witnesses are being munched on right now). Some critters could develop a taste for dwarven flesh; man-eater could be a form of insanity in animals.

Sorry for changing the subject.
That would be a very interesting take on how we train animals into war animals... or add a new use for animals, anti-species berserkery units.

I don't know about graphics, but the optimization and creep has a lot to be desired in Minecraft.
For a reason for why there is no 3d or any sort of graphics past ascii... look at the first Armok Game, it was a mess and got in the way of development.
So by all means, make your visualizer, or whatever, but you are doing so at your own discretion.

I think hauling should add a bit to character stat, more than an actual skill.

Possible upgrades for Couriers could be Horses, Supplies [akin to D Rations], gong, cornets, flares, whistler bolts, and possibly the Optical Telegraph.

Prisms can be used for many things, color-correction [vertical/horizontal], refraction/focusing [vertical/horizontal] and many other things [splitting light beams, making your light houses into spotting towers, or blinding towers] I am not equipped to understand, or know about... an advanced form of prism/mirror usage could be optical telegraphing, just add light and morse code.

Seems bodkin arrows are capable against chainmail, but not neccesarrily used for armor-piercing [no tip hardening], but archery in general was useless against plate mail, which was readily available in the 14th century.
They were cheaper, and further flying though.

And Broadheads were a primary Hunting/War Arrow, and occasionally mechanical [blades expand at impact] or hardened.

I'm suggesting that we start with the current level of technology (though there could be other options) and advance within that framework. I'm also suggesting we do more with the unique advantages available to the worlds of Dwarf Fortress, rather then borrowing exclusively from human history.
