For those who dont know...some of the files dont auto update after you finish a fort or adventurer and unless you go into legends mode and redo the map and world gen info (sites and history) as well as the XML you will more than likely get errors...

I don't think you'll have issues using files made before you started a fort, because only those files are used for the world viewer.  But unless you export again after running a fort or adventurer, you definitely won't get any of the data from that fort.

Also, with regard to Goacbc's issues.

The world viewer wasn't made to support DF .31.12.  There were substantial changes in the xml files (I think in version .31.13), which expanded the historical figure section in the xml, as well as made changes to the site file.  It's not practical for me to interpret both this version and the .31.12 version.  Mostly because the issues that are reported in the log as failures for current version viewing would be expected in older version viewing.

In short, I don't think this will ever work for your world, sorry.

Still, it should be possible to use a detailed map rather than an ASCII one, another old viewer did it and it looks much better.

I know in the previous version I had it where you could upload one of the more detailed maps, which looked okay, but I had some issues getting it to work since I changed how that all worked.  Definitely worthy of getting it on the list.  I'm still not sure if I can go about actually interpreting the map enough to replace areas with the stuff you posted.  If something did use something like you posted could you link to it so I could try to understand how they did it?  If it could be done I'd definitely be on board with it.

I think it was the detailed map only, which was ever made. If we can't brainstorm the map interpretation... Maybe we could ask Toady to implement an XML export of a map in future? :)

By the way, look here: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=70700.0

I think I see elevation and forest tiles. Could you ask Japa how did he do it? :)

I guess he checks a pixel color, which corresponds to a map feature/height.

P.S. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=70700.msg1767776#msg1767776 o_O

P.P.S. Yeah it works, you can check here the corresponding ASCII/graphical map which actually match:

Well that's pretty cool.

Maybe I can take several of the graphical maps together and then I'll have interesting data for each pixel.

I'll test it out in a test project and see if I can come up with something cool, not promising anything but thanks for the suggestion. :)

It would be even easier just to ask Japa about the color info which he definitely has gathered already.

OMG. I never noticed the other txt-files you could export. That would have helped with the development of my tool. :D Thanks for that "hint". :D

For some strange reason I can't start worlviewer. All I get is message "Component 'TABCTL32.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file missing or invalid".

Find it on internet (just make sure it's shit-less).

Put into system32 or program's folder.

Try running again.

Forgot to mention: it already exists in program's folder. Due to lack of admin's rights I can't put it into system32.  :-[

I get this problem too. Even if I cut it out of the world viewer folder and into system32 I still get the error message. Kind of annoying  :'(

OK, I got it working. You have to do the following:

1) Make sure tabctl32.ocx is in the world viewer directory.
2) Open up a command prompt (type "cmd" in the start menu to get this)
3) change directory to your world viewer directory with "cd directory_name"
4) type "regsvr32 tabctl32.ocx" to register the file

Now to load some legends; this looks good!

THanks for your help.  I never had to deal with this issue myself.
