Shores of Hazeron: War was beginning
« on: April 17, 2011, 01:03:09 am »

Old thread: Starborn dominion is dead, new stuff in game, lot of shit happening.

Implemented: Modules (some), including mining and atmosphere collection.  Big game changer, as you can now mine and then sell to earn cash with a ship. More coming soon, updates every week.

Other stuff:  Galactic War 1 is now happening (PTMC and Foundation vs Tymas), read more on the forums at http://hazeron.com/phpBB3/index.php

www.hazeron.com

Shores of Hazeron itself is a 4x, sandbox MMO in space where you can build cities, design your own ships, design your own race, and do quite ridiculous things like stacking ships on other ships or docking a whole bunch of ships together with specialized pods to make a mega mothership.  You can join an empire or create your own, expanding, setting up trade routes, increasing your research capabilities, finding rare/high quality resources and designing better and better ships.  Or stealing other ships.  Or espionage.  Or conquering planets and taking their resources for yourself.

You can see the map of the universe at http://shoresofhazeron.com/galaxyviewf.html

Current issues: The graphics are quite bad, the game has lag issues quite often (and limbo issues where people cannot log in occasionally), tons of bugs and balance issues.

Good stuff: Weekly updates, devs are cool people, free beta (alpha, arguably in some cases).  Lots of cool features planned, including building editor and a story editor for making your own 'quests' and lore.  A bunch of potential.

It's a cool game but sadly I can't play it because it feels like the servers have a dial-up connection and 100mhz processors.

I'm tempted to give SoH another go... It's a game I wanted to love, but it made me ragequit repeatedly thanks to it becoming literally unplayable at complete random.

Ditto, I've just reinstalled it but I'm eyeing it wearily still :P

Same for me.

Did they at least implement proper planet defenses? Last time I played, we kept losing planets while we were offline because there were no passive defenses. I HATE games where I have to play 24/7 to not lose my hard-earned stuff.

Eh i might try to play that again someday, last time (summer 2010) i got stuck inside a star and couldnt get out as it became my respawn point for some reason. Starting fresh would be a welcome challenge, though i wonder how laggy it is nowadays. It was the major issue back then.
