Title: ED Mission 2: Not so competent after all
Post by: AoshimaMichio on May 15, 2017, 01:53:30 pm
Ride to the planet surface is long and boring, at least for those who didn't go into stasis. They pass time by playing Tetris, and after that gets boring, watching movies Dave streams to your faceplates on request and chatting. Some share their worries, some their beliefs, others their bloated self-opinion. Eventually stasis pods open and everyone gets fully dressed, checking over their weapons and other equipment couple of times.

The shuttle door opens, and the men and women step out into an alien landscape, almost surprised by lower gravity. The difference isn't unbearable, but it requires you to pay attention to your movement. The landing spot is on what appears to be a section of old road, flat and wide enough for the shuttle. It's surrounded by plants that look like a gnarly and twisted maze made out of roots taller than a man, occasionally sprouting tall spiraling trunks fully covered by thick layers of turquoise "leaves". Each "leaf" looks like long curly ribbon hanging from the trunk or a short branch. Behind the plants you can see a mountain rising to reach the clouds. It's very close and very, very tall. The sky is gray, wholly covered in dark clouds and nobody knows where the sun is. Above the horizon, probably.

From the maze of roots comes a man, dressed warmly and in civilized manner, wearing a large backpack. He takes in your appearance for a moment.

"I take it you are the HMRC then? Welcome to Frone. I'll be your guide to the bunker."

"We are, yes." Joanna says to the man. "Let's get down to business. Anything we should know about the bunker before we go?" She's speaking quickly - part wanting to get this over with, part concerned that people will start somehow killing themselves or the guide if they don't move soon.

"Nice to meet you" She looks around "What exactly are these things weak to? By things I mean the Turrets" She asks the rest of the team and the guide

"I assume they are weak to exactly same things as all other laser weapons. Overwhelming kinetic force and EMP."

"Nice to meet you" She shakes his hand, "What exactly are these things weak to?" She asks the rest of the team
((What are you asking? Which things? Also, kin-amp is a glove. Just a warning.))

"We are, yes." Joanna says to the man. "Let's get down to business. Anything we should know about the bunker before we go?" She's speaking quickly - part wanting to get this over with, part concerned that people will start somehow killing themselves or the guide if they don't move soon.

"It's carved inside this mountain. Its entrance is dark and partially open. The turrets are very aggressive and precise. It's probably empty of living people. One of the backward tribes around here claims to trace their ancestors to people who left from this bunker, which is the reason why it was found in the first place. That's about all we know so far."

"Hmph. Overwatch."

Squat in the middle of the road and keep an eye out in all directions with my many eyes.

You focus on the various cameras all over your body, one at the time and watch your teammates. Vik's defenseless back in particular.

((What are you asking? Which things? Also, kin-amp is a glove. Just a warning.))

((Actually, unless Ao changed this from original ER, the functional part is just a postage-stamp sized black box positioned over the glove's knuckles.  The rest of the glove is completely inert and normal.  Yes, the armory entry mentions that you shouldn't scratch your nose--a lot of armory entries contain misleading statements.))

((That's how it goes in this timeline. I put the battery back though I have no idea where a battery could be in such a small thing.))

For now, inspect both of the prototypes I bought.

Biased Red is a bottle containing six so glaringly red pills that it makes you think they actually might glow in dark. Jovial Copper appears to be some type of weapon. It has a traditional handle and a trigger attached to gray cuboid consisting most of the "barrel". At opposite end of the box is recessed, making it resemble a miniature satellite dish.

"Fair comrade. Your deliverance is at hand. Show us the way to the capitalist pigs and tell the workers to rejoice at the dawning of a new world order."

Say the above.

The man stares you few uncomfortable seconds. "Suuure," he says, drawling the word. "Follow me then. I'll mark the path in case you have to return here without me."

He turns around and walks back into the maze of roots he came from. The maze immediately veers off of the road. Sometimes the path takes you over thinner sections where kind of natural stairs has formed, sometimes it goes under arching roots. Every now and then your guide paints arrows pointing the way back to the shuttle with a can of red spray paint. Despite lower gravity, this trekking is quickly tiring people out, and after two hours your guide has to stop and let you rest.

While resting, Stepan, Maya, Vik and Filgres have a definite feeling of someone watching them. Nothing can be seen or heard around, however, even the local wildlife has been quiet and out of sight for the most part (except certain multi-legged tentacle thing resembling a mix of centipede and snail). Grits is absolutely certain that this world's apex ambush predator is getting ready to ambush you.

..he's leaning on one side akwardly

"Can say that again drunkard. This metal leg is a bit akward ill admit. But ill get used to how terrible they are. Or I'll just improve yeah that sounds better. Unless you wanna take a crack qt it first I suppose."
....was bastien being actually nice? Did he have more to him then being a snarky asshole? Or maybe his pity just make's him hold his snark back. Who knows.

" Well this is just peachy...So what are you all here for?"
Joanna shrugs at the question. "Turns out, the governor of my planet was really touchy about who their kid got into bed with. We were both consenting adults, but noooo, off to the HMRC with me." Normally, Joanna would tell people to focus at this point, but they were resting anyway - as long as somebody was keeping an eye out it was probably fine to talk.

Also, I just got some prototypes. This whole HMRC thing isn't all that bad."

Examine the pills closer, do they have any indication on what they might be for?

Also examine the gun, making sure to practice trigger discipline at all times so as to not shoot myself in the face. Can I see anything that might give a hint as to how it works/what it does?

[Handi: 4-2] Eh...

Use intuition on what?

None indications whatsoever. All you can tell is that they fit nicely into your suit's injection port.

Lack of any holes probably means it isn't a projectile weapon. The dish thing in the dangerous end hints that it is some form of directed energy weapon instead. Probably not a laser either, according to the lack of visible optics.

So nobody in particular cares much about the feeling of being watched? That's fine. It was probably nothing more than your imagination in the first place.

After letting you rest for ten minutes the guide stands up and indicates you to follow. It's time for the last stretch. Next two hours of walking in the maze isn't any easier now than it was before. If anything, it's harder now because ground grows steeper. Finally the trek comes to its end. The team steps from under the roots straight into the wide open tunnel. It's clearly manmade, smooth and perfect curvature of walls and ceiling is undeniable proof. The tunnel goes straight into the darkness of the mountain, and only moss grows inside, but even it too peters out. You guide steps on the side and lets his backpack fall on the ground.

"Here it is. As you can see the tunnel is dark all the way to the end. There probably used to be lights but they have either burned out a long time ago or are shut down and nobody turned them back on again. Stick to the left side until you reach the first blast door and you will be safe from the defense turrets. The blast door is only partially open and if you peek behind it, you will certainly be decapitated for good. I'll set up a camp here and wait for news."

Move up along the left side following the guy's instructions and go wave one of Citop's legs out infront of the door way to see how the turrets deal with itYou know what just go stick by the medic and let the new guys figure this one out/explode horribly. and if anyone attacks us or goes berserk just shoot them in the head

There ain't many rocks of good size, but you do grab a handful of stones. Sticks are even more scarce.

"Does anyone want try one of these bright crimson prototype drugs?"
Fly one of my little drones into the tunnel to scan around. Stick to the left side like the guide said.

Also give one of the Biased Red capsules to citotp

[Aux: 4+1+1] You prep up one scout eye and remote control it deeper into the cave. Its little rockets push it forward with maximum power and before you can correct it the feed cuts off and sound of crash reaches your ears. As for what you saw, well, nothing much, unfortunately. The cave is dark, the scout eye's cameras don't pierce darkness very well.

One pill is given, but it is questionable what good pills do to a brain in a bot.

((Damn it, mispost.  Please ignore.  And go Tinker sometime, willya?!))

Yes, give poor sy something to do!

You all heed the warning and practically hug the left wall as you walk deeper into the cave. It grows steadily darker and soon enough everybody has to turn their lamps on to see anything. About hundred and fifty meters in they finally reach the blast door. A massive metal door, seven meters wide and half as tall, blocks the way further. It's not fully closed, just as the guide said, leaving a meter wide opening on the right side. The door is unadorned but has a large weathered message painted on it.

RESTRICTED AREA
OFF LIMITS TO UNAUTHORIZED PERSONEL

UNAUTHORIZED ENTRY IS PROHIBITED. ALL PERSONS HEREIN ARE LIABLE TO SEARCH.
RECORDING OF THE FACILITIES IS PROHIBITED WITHOUT SPECIFIC AUTHORIZATION
FROM THE COMMAND. DEADLY FORCE IS AUTHORIZED.

Do as the guide said and toss a grenade or two through the blast door when we know where the turrets are

Since you all are still alive then turrets must be somewhere behind this gate. So far you just juggling with your grenades, itching for destruction.

On the other news: I'm leaving for a company sponsored trip, so next update will be on Monday. In theory I could make updates but better not make promises I can't keep.

((Have fun!))

Throw a rock around the corner.  Don't stick arm around or anything, just bank it off the wall.

You throw a rock in. You hear it bounce off of the floor once, then it sounds as if two rocks are clattering on the floor. Then four.

More waiting and protecting the medic from harm, offer one of citop's legs to the guys messing with the turrets Other wise be ready to shoot anyone that presents a threat to the team.

Waiting. Actually, you don't have those body parts. Because they were mushed during acceleration and then your locker had to be cleaned.

Stick the pill in my robobody medicine port. Swipe my hand quickly over the opening in the door to get a look using those cameras.

Into the port the pill goes. While waiting for the effects manifest you switch vision to your finger cameras and take a quick peek. The area behind the door is actually darker than on the other side; light from people's lamps doesn't reflect very well. But you can make enough to confirm that the tunnel continues forward without any changes in appearance, but since you can't really see further than three meters you can't tell how far. The only unusual thing you can see is the rock Filgres threw in. It's sliced in four uneven pieces. Only other interesting piece is that the blast door appears to be about two meters thick.

[Will: 3+1]

And then you start getting angry at nobody in particular. Frustrated to the point you really, really want to punch somebody. But you hold it in, you reign the anger, you bottle it up. You feel like a grenade that's about to go off at slightest disruption...

Catch up with the team. Be ready to drop the hammer on any hostiles or capitalists.

I assume you walk with the group if you aren't posting.

Look fucking sweet. Be ready to shoot anyone and anything at a moment's notice.

[Cha: 3-1] You are fucking sweet, a veritable honeypot. No need to try or anything.

Hold position.
Same for me

You two hug the closest wall as hard as you can.

You don't have any grenades. But you ask anyway.

"Can I have a grenade, please? Pretty please? I promise to throw it in the right direction!"

No punching is happening yet.

You exchange a pill in for not getting punched in face. A Very favorable deal, all things considered.

Retreating and preparing to kill teammates. Business as usual.

Chuck a grenade to the turrets

[Uncon: 4+1] You give a quick glance to a couple of new thin gashes on the ground that didn't exist before. Considering the angle Filgres threw his rocks you estimate rough position for the turrets. Have to be two ceiling mounted, wide apart, probably about 13 meters into the tunnel. It's gonna be hard to take out both with a single, relatively low power frag grenade. But you have to do what you can. You take one grenade out, get a feel of its weight. Then you activate it, hold it in your hand a moment and finally throw it in as hard you can.

A second later it explodes. Not as loudly as you expected, but hopefully very close to the target. Now, did it actually do anything against military grade laser defense turret is a question somebody else has to find answer for.

Shelve that idea for later, keeping my distance from the door seems like a better idea right at this moment.

Actually, just slowly back up a bit more. Some more distance between me and the door can't hurt. Stick to the safe wall though.

It's thick blast door. Nothing is going to get through it so easily. But, you know, caution is the better part of valor.

Let's just be quiet. Let's follow.

Follow people slowly retreating from the door?

More unknown pills. Smart man.

[Will: 5+1] Rage bubbles up again but you unleash it at the door rather than anything more squishy.
[Str: 1-1+2] At least you fail to damage anything, even when your artificial muscles twitch eagerly.

Now then, time to burn shit.

[Exo: 5+1] You stare through the door, visualizing the area behind it, and will it to burn. Your mind blanks out as amp extends its fingers into your brain, hijacking portions of it to perform calculations. When your mind returns back to normal operation, it's like jumping from a bullet train and faceplanting into a wall. Or like jumping from a bridge and enjoying the moment of weightlessness before the sudden stop at the bottom. A sudden, very painful stop is the best way to describe it.

You fall backward like a very wet log and lose consciousness. Which means you don't get to see how explosive blast of hot air billows out from the opening or how white light is glowing behind the door.

"My feets!"
Move back a good 15 feet.

Thankfully he didn't burn your feets this time around. That would have been akward. But he definitely burned something.

Exactly.

Qwko time to check on the tin man and see about taking his switch blade and ductape to "Borrow"
"Person with the drone check on the halway, I'm going to check on the tin man."

Tinman doesn't need stuff if he's out, so you borrow even more things from him. Or her. Tinman was quite ambiguous even before.

"Roger that."

Use one of my drones to go check on the hallway. First just fly in front of the door gap, if nothing destroys the drone, fly inside and take a look.

[Aux: 5+1+1] ((Yeah, I think I might change the system a bit after this turn.))

You take out one of your scout eyes and remote control it in from the gap. Its cameras display you a curious scene. The hallway behind the door continues 20 meters before ending in another closed door. This one has diagonal black and yellow stripes up to half of its height. And as for why the scout eye can see this is because of the tunnel walls are melting. You see, this hallways is shaped like cylinder cut in half. Three quarters of the length of walls to the next door is glowing white and slowly deforming and dripping down on floor. That's all you can see before the scout eye crashes on the far door with a mighty bang. It wasn't lasered in half so you are feeling optimistic.

If said drone finds anything chuck another grenade

Does melting walls count?

"Another rock first?"
Try throwing another rock.

You toss another in, but this time sounds it makes are more normal.

Light shining from the gap is slowly shifting from white to yellow.

Sorry about the delay. Being sick is not fun business.

For rest of the mission skill bonuses affect to rolls like this:
With skill -2 the rolled dice has numbers 1, 2 and 6.
With -1 numbers are 1, 2, 3 and 6.
0 is normal d6
+1 replaces 3 with 5 and every +1 after that adds another 5 to the dice. So the dice for +4 skill is 1, 2, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5 and 6. Or something like that. We'll see how that works.

Welp go throw tin man into the room, see how he goes.

I would normally roll strength for this, but because apparently everyone else is waiting for results, a failure would mean completely wasted turn. So...

You prop the iron body up on your shoulders and then unceremoniously drop him into the opening. He slumps in but apparently nothing else seems to happen. Of course this doesn't mean it is safe, it could also mean defense system identifies him as harmless.

Just...stay with the group
((Sorry been busy))

Staying.

You do that.

Use tin man as a human shield

Edit your previous action rather than just editing a quote. But no, he tin man doesn't get cheesed. He seems rather fine for a unconscious robot.

Wait for team to enter the room. If nothing horrible happens to them, follow them in and see if I can't salvage my drone.

Citotp doesn't die, be horribly mauled or even get perforated. Nobody else seems to be eager to take the next step so you must once again lead by example. You take a deep breath, close your eyes and step over Citotp into the tunnel behind the blast door. When nothing kills or cuts you you open your eyes.

What you see here is mostly same what your scout eye saw, thought this time you have more time to observe. Good portion of curved walls are orange hot and flowing state, drooping down to floor like acid saliva from xenomorph's mouth, deforming the tunnel from its smooth professional appearance to volcanic tunnel. Hot portions of ceiling and walls are cooling rapidly since there's nothing to keep them hot. Near far end of glowing patches of wall/ceiling you spot two equally glowing objects mounted on wall, still keeping their shape despite of the heat. Judging from the shape you assume those are the laser turrets, and since they are pointing towards you and you still aren't dead, you assume their internal components are at least broken.

In the middle remains safe and clean path to forward, so you follow that. A short 20 meters walk later you find burning pieces of your scout eye by the next barrier. Pieces are scattered around. There aren't much to salvage, whatever fuel its rockets used made sure of that.

This newest obstacle is solid metal wall with yellow and black stripes. Sliding doors probably, much like the previous one, except this one is firmly closed. On wall right side you find a console of some sort. It has suffered some minor corrosion due few hundred years worth of exposure to mountain atmosphere and very recent heat wave has melted some plastic bits off. It's still functional. Mostly.

"what are we fighting?"

Follow team. Shoot hostiles.

"Pew pew!"

Go into the room, crouch behind the tin man

You crawl flat on the floor pushing the tin man in front of you. You make it one meter past the first door before other people walk over and past you.

Stay in the middle of the group

Staying in the middle so hard.

Go and check out the console more closely. Try to see if there's just a button for "open" or if it needs some kind of passcode or something

No handy "open door" buttons here. They probably took security a little more seriously here since they got laser turrets too.

[Aux: 4] Very seriously, actually. There's iris scanner, fingerprint scanner, blood sampler, passcode and some other key reader. This was obviously high security facility. It's gonna be a little hard to get past this.

Follow motherfuckers. I am the most magnificent follower here.

You step over Vik and the robot man and walk to end of the tunnel where Grits is staring thoughtfully a security console.

Inspire? That's right in the front. You push few out of the way and walk forward with confidence, spinning the gauss rifle in your hands until there's no way to go forward anymore. You join Bastien watching Grits' back.

overwatch and see what the laser turrets do to us. Return fire if they shoot.

Laser turrets seem to be frozen in place. Or welded in place, as the case is more likely.

Just continue crouching and waiting.

Using the man as a sandbag. You do realize his body will not protect you against lasers?

Well, let's see if fiddle with the keypad in such a way that it will take any eye/blood/fingerprint/passcode as legit.

[Aux: 5] Turns out fairly standardish key combo initiates a diagnostics mode which reveals that most of those identification methods are broken or have otherwise errors which renders them unreliable and therefore will be ignored in authentication process. And its inability to connect to main security grid causes it revert to basic factory settings which is so much easier to deal with. You remember various ways how default passwords are set up and try some of them. Third attempt gives you a green light.

The door, or gate might be a better word, splits half in the middle accompanied by loud metallic bang and then slides apart with jerky motion before grinding halt. This gives you four meter wide passage to the next area, which turns out to be a large pitch black hall, only your headlamps providing light. It's a square, about 30 m wide and long square hall. Four stone pillars stand in the middle providing support, equally distant from walls and each other. By the back wall are two boxy things which look very much like vehicles, perhaps APCs. Two doors on far wall by both corners, another two on right wall in the middle. The closest one is larger than other three.

Otherwise the hall is fairly nondescript. Faded markings on the floor brings parking spots into mind, but it all is covered by thin solid layer of dust. No signs of anyone visiting here for a long time.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

If the door wont open use a grenade to blast it open

Considering thickness of these doors your grenades feel very inadequate. Smallest nuke in armory would havemore success than those hand grenades. But the gate opened, so no need to waste those.

Loot the place

This particular hall doesn't have anything very lootable other than those vehicles, and they are a little too large for you to pocket, but what's inside of them might be more portable. Maybe. You approach them and take a good look. Time hasn't been gentle. Rust has eaten holes into hull, tyres have fractured into pieces leaving pile or hard rubble and metal rims. You use some force to rip doors open and inspect its insides. Basically everything is correded beyond uselessness, but you do find single emergency kit that appears to mostly intact. Or at least its surface seems spotless. But considering it is few centuries old there's no telling if its contents are still in any helpfull state. Better ask medic.

Go scavenge the turrets then.

Those are fixed into ceiling. Let's see if you are a monkey enough to get there.

[Dex: 5] You eye the turret and the curving red hot wall for a moment, pick your angle and jump. Your feet sticks into almost soft wall, and using that as a spring board your second jump brings you into grabbing distance of the first turret. You grab hold the barrel and dangle upside down from it with all four limbs. Miraculously enough the turret holds your and your exoskeleton's weight without issue. Now, getting the turret off the ceiling...

[Handi: 1] Hmm, with your exoskeleton you should be able to just rip it off, right? You move your grip to near its central axle, plant your feets up into ceiling on its both sides and pull/push with all your might. Upside down. Something gives up, the turret moves a little and your hold slips. This means you basically jump down head first, powered by exoskeleton.

[End: 4] Could have been worse, honestly. One moment you are struggling with the turret and next you are laying flat on ground, your jaw and neck hurting, tasting blood in your mouth and thoroughly confused how you ended down here.

Onwards, into the breach! For booty and bosoms!

Loot anything of value.

You follow the young woman to the vehicles, and break into other following her example. All you find is proof of destructiveness power of time.

Grits will get out another one of his drones and scout the room ahead top to bottom. Also hover alongside the APC things to see what we're dealing with.

[Aux: 2] The darned thing must be bugged because you can't get it working. And others already ran in without accounting possibility of additional defense measures. Since they are alive you presume it's safe enough. Time to do analysis in the old fashioned way. Namely using your own legs and eyes.

It seems the hall is constructed using some variant of supercrete. Left wall has "L1" painted on it. The doors on back seem simple type, not particularly reinforced or anything beyond a lock. Time has done some damage to them, but significantly less than to the APCs. Doors on right wall are more stronger variant, or so your instinct tells you. The bigger one appears to be metal sliding door, rusted shut and was apparently controlled by a single call button. An elevator, probably. Some darker dots hidden around ceiling which you presume to be cameras. And that's all about the hall you can tell. No structural damage you can see.

The badly damaged vehicles seem to be normal armored personel carriers as far as you can tell. Not any of the standard models you recognize, but not so wildly different it would make you terribly interested about possible technical differences. They could probably carry ten man squad safely, plus driver and two co drivers.

Doors have no writing. Perhaps people manning this place were expected to be familiar with the location. But as far as you can tell, it's a simple locked door. A boot should open it fine.

[Str: 5] You take step backwards and give the door kick right below the lock. The door shatters around the lock and you push it open ignoring complains of the hinges. The room behind is little more than hallway going along the hall. It takes you one glance over to recognize this as a mechanic's storage room. Walls are stacked with various tools you are very familiar with (albeit yours were in far better condition), spare parts for vehicles, tyres, even entire engine. You recognize 95% of objects in the room despite of rust and corrosion, and remaining 5% you can guess. This is your domain.

((You have had very long lucky string of competence. When does it end?))

Go help the medic
((I'm not doing very much))

Help out the guy. See what's wrong.

[Joanna Med: 5]
[Maya Med: 4]

The guy staggers around in manner that implies concussion, his tongue is bleeding and careful touching proves he strained his neck muscles. You don't feel like wasting your advanced kit on him, but the emergency kit Maya found seems to have at least few coagulants and painkillers you deem still safe to use. They are not designed to be used with Mk I so you have to take off Vik's helmet and force feed the pills to him.

((You are helping the wounded, which is a lot more than one would expect from a medic in HMRC. And in such professional manner too. Truly a miracle worker.))

Try a door no one else has tried.

Judging by how things are looking you try the door next to probable elevator. It's locked. Or jammed in place.

put helmet back on and go give the ductape and straight blade back to the tin man, if he reacts violently just bisect him both ways, otherwise just stay back and let the people enter the room.

You wipe the blood bron your shin before putting the helmet back on. Tin man doesn't seem to react very much to your presence, so you simply shove the blade and roll of tape into his hands. Poor guy must be still suffering from whatever knocked him out in first place.

"I've got this!"

Turn on kinamp and punch the door open!

Finally time for you to shine!

[Uncon: 5] The door pretty much explodes off its hinges and what your punch didn't break shatters when it collides the wall behind it. Metal hinges are partially torn out of supercrete frame, a testament to strength of your punch.

Behind the now open door is a wide and dark stairwell leading down and left. Down where stairs turn around you think you see a damaged spot on a wall. You're pretty sure that's not your handiwork.

Let's dig through these tools to see if there's anything that's still usable. There has to be something that time didn't destroy, right?

So you would think. But successful companies don't make money by selling indestructibe and perfect products, everything is rigged to break down eventually. And that certainly seems to be the case with this planet's industry. Everything electronic is oxidized beyond repair, metal has rusted and plastic is turned fragile.

It's really dissapointing.

Let the Toaster person punch open the door, prepare to follow him through and/or cover him.

As soon as Filgres displays his feasome punch you follow him in and witness the very same staircase down. You wonder what treasures are waiting down there, things that can be used to support worker uprising.

I assume you wandered over to the hall where people are attempting to find loot in rusted shit and offered encouraging words. Like "look little harder" or "you didn't check that pile of rust yet".

Down the stairs we go, for booty, bosoms, bears and bourgeois bothering.

That's the spirit! Proudly into unknown!

You walk down the stairs, ignore fist sized crumbled hole in wall where stairs turn around and keep going. These flight of stairs takes you around 10 meters below the floor above. There you find a door ajar into a hallway and another set of stairs going further down. You peek into the hallway and find out there's lights. Well, partially at least. Most of the hallway is dark, but there are few sections where hidden lights in ceiling are functional. There's pair of doors on your right in end of the hallway. On your left is couple more doors plus pair of branching corridors.

It's all quiet and empty.

Judging how that one guy went already ahead and didn't die yet, you presume it's safe to follow him. I'll save you that scout eye. It's funny how some lights still work on this floor.

Two people already went down and neither of them died. Your concerns are unfounded. You shrug and toss a largest surviving piece of door down regardless. It bounces and makes a racket.

Follow the group downstairs

Following.

Follow the group, go to the nearest door and try to prop it open with laser rifle and chuck some debris in

Closest door is left of the stairwell, a pair of large sliding doors in front of a corridor branching west.

[Con: 6] Laser does wonderful job at making the doors open. Before you can attempt to pull doors apart a gust of wind pushes some rust and dust out from laser cut cracks and then a mere moment later pulls it all back. Another moment later you hear a major crash from behind the door. A crash loud enough to wake up dead.

[Str: 5] You hesitate a moment before pushing doors apart and staring into empty vertical shaft behind it and a lonely steel cable hanging from up. It seems you just broke the elevator. Not that you needed it.

Follow the drone guy

Drone guy would be Grits, who is following Filgres, who is leading this conga line to north.

"Yay!  Noise!"

Open a northern door that's not open yet.  If neither are opened, the one on same side as stairs.

Yay, Vik is making even more noise! You put some distance between you two, Grits and the other non-medic girl following you closely.

None of the doors here is open, but the one you aim for opens without much effort. Behind the door you find a another large room, about half of the size the hall on first floor. Half of the lights flicker on as soon as you open the door, revealing bunch of half rotten wooden tables placed in half circle around the door forming a makeshift barricade. Apparently it didn't do much good because many tables have fist sized holes as does the wall on your both sides. There are more tables and chairs scattered haphazadly around; only few appear to be orderly placed. On the opposite side is another door, which is equally surrounded by damaged tables and holed walls.

[Gen. Know: 1] This should be an assembly hall. South wall has a big rectangular hole in wall between two doors. You are pretty sure that's where coilgun turrets are hidden to ensure enslaved robot workers do not rebel.

Spoiler: Level 2 (click to show/hide)

Lead the downstairs team heroically forward. Take the north (right) corridor and try the east door on the north side.

In this case you are heroically led forward by that Filgres guy. He even opened the door for you.

"...Why is everyone taking cover? Did you guys see something?"

Follow their lead, I guess?

You lot gather in the corner with various weapons ready aiming at all doors in your sights.

"Huh.  Watch out for the coilgun turrets!"
Poke around the room.  Watch out for turrets.

While others are piling up in hedgehog position you wander around in the room. You sneak to the door on right side and very carefully peek into the next room. What you see reinforces your idea about this being an assembly hall, but for chemical weapons. For example the next room appears to have fridges, both normal and microwave ovens, piles of scientific instruments disguised as knives, forks and other cutlery. In fact, it looks very much like a kitchen there, but that's just a clever disguise! Defensive weapons must be hidden somewhere in there, just waiting for you to turn your back!

Perhaps Grits is one of them, because he just pushed you in open giving you clear view of the room. You drop low instantly.

"Looks like some kind of mess hall, I think. Wonder what happened here."
Also poke around the room. Don't stand in front of the rectangular hole yet. Instead hug the wall next to it and use a piece of mirror/something reflective to check what's on the other side.

Something reflective? You don't seem to have anything that fulfills that requirement in particular nor does anyone else. Of course you could always open your face plate, take of the helmet and use that as poor man's mirror, but that's a little bit of a bad idea. Let's see, what else you can use?

[Int: 1] Well, there's Filgres stealing peeks in front of you. You can use him.

[Dex: 3]
[Filgres dex: 2]
[Str: 3]

He doesn't notice your calculating stare on his back, mostly because he's staring in other direction. So with this advantage you give him firm push in front of the hole. It's not very strong push, because you want him to stay upright and clearly in sight of any potential automated weapons. That results him stumbling two steps forward and then dropping low on the floor.

Since he's still breathing it's probably safe to look by yourself. Yeah, it's a kitchen, geared for serving number of people.

After ripping open few closets and drawers you come in conclusion those weapons must be hidden in ceiling. Probably in those vents that are tightly screwed.

Advance the hedgehog, towards the direction of unknown danger.

That's unknown direction. But let's assume you go to the door on opposite side of the mess hall. It opens with relative ease and reveals another long corridor to south plus couple of doors. End of the corridor is dark and your headlamps don't quite reach that far. Suspicious.

Do these rusted knives and forks count? There's a metal meat tenderizer that's in relatively good shape.

Ovens are empty, but insides of fridges are covered in ages old dark and shriveled mold. There's number of small plastic containers that may have been origin of all the mold, some actually contains chunks of some unspecific organic matter (also covered by mold). Whenever people left this place, they apparently didn't take all the food.

"Can't be too careful, you know."

Start getting into vents.  Try to force things open if they won't come easy.  Punching with kinamp is last resort.

Vents are in ceiling which makes them little hard to reach. So you climb on a table and reach from there. From your new vantage point you can tell vents are protected by a firmly installed grate, 20 heavy duty bolts holding it in place. Of course some corrosion has taken place here so perhaps hard yank can pull it off.

[Str: 5] The grate comes down along with a number of tiny laser emitters. And behind the unprotected hole in ceiling is... nothing. No concealed turrets, no hidden secrets. Nothing but a vent too small for humans to crawl in.

Move forwards and rejoin the defensive wall

"Defensive wall" seems to consist of people watching Filgres tearing down the kitchen.

Literally tear apart the room searching!

[Str: 5]

Rest of the people watch with amazement how Filgres systematically topples every single piece of furniture that's not bolted on floor or wall and rips apart all those that are have suffered too much corrosion. After proving that there are no turrets hidden in cabines he inspects every single square inch of walls and ceiling. All he finds is couple of tiny cameras built in corners where they provide near complete coverage of the room. But no hidden weapons. Either there are none, or they are hidden so well that human eyes cannot detect them. Filgres cannot decide which one.

Once he's done the kitchen looks like it got hit by a decently sized hurricane.

The door leading east from kitchen is a thick one. Not armored per se, but just otherwise thick. It's also stuck.

[Str: 5] ((My dice roller must be broken, you people shouldn't be getting this many 5's.))

You pull plant your feet on wall and use strength of your whole body to pull. The moment you feel it giving up you ease up and follow the door to side without letting anything inside to see you. Others can take the bullet for you.

See if I can't connect to one of those camera's with  wristpad somehow to gain access to the facility's camera network.

Like I said to spazyak, those cameras are embedded into the wall. But I assume you decided to work with it anyway. So.

[Handi: 6] To get access to the cameras you must first get them out of wall. And for that you need tools. You don't have any tools, but Filgres has created good amount of rubble while deconstructing the room. You handily craft a sledgehammer from metal table leg, power cable and some of most clunky pieces of metal furniture you can find. It's prohibitively heavy thing.

[Str: 2] And you can't even lift it. Damn it. Only if you had a exoskeleton powered buddy...

((This is great))

"Must be in the next room!"

RUN through the door and start searching the next room!

Vik opened the door for you already so you don't need to hurt yourself. The room next to the kitchen has no lights, but with your headlamps light it up well enough. It's a room full of shelves. Only few of the shelves actually have boxes on them. You rummage through them only to find that they contain vacuum packed dry foods. Most are completely unedible, their "best before" date being couple of centuries ago. But there are few packages that seem to be still safe to eat.

[Gen. Know: 1] Wait a minute! Robots don't eat food! Clearly they must have used human slave labour to produce the chemical weapons! How utterly irresponsible! Outrageous!

"Fine, I'll help you."

Go sledge hammer the cameras out.

The hammer changes hands and careful deconstruction work starts.

[Str: 2] Or not. You spend time wondering how exactly you should aim your strikes not to smash the camera in progress.

"Thanks. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to find something neat in their system.

Do try not to damage the camera's too much, I'll need something left to connect to."
Give Vic the sledgehammer. If Vic manages to get one of the camera's out, connect to one of those camera's with my wristpad to gain access to the facility's (camera) network. If succesful, dig around to see if I can't find anything useful for our mission. Like a map.

Looks like he needs some pointers how to use the hammer. You can't believe he doesn't know that already, despite of promising to be your muscle. Well, even muscles needs brain in before they can do any useful work... Better teach him intricacies of hammering.

"This place is outrageous!"
Charge down the right hallway into the next room!

You run out of the food storage, vaulting over the large hole between fake kitchen and fake mess hall, down into next hallway completely disregading any self preservation and cautiousness that may be yelling in back of your head. The door to first room crashes open when you shoulder slam into it. You roll in with the same motion and stand up ready to tear this place apart.

This room is about same size as the fake mess hall, but clearly for different purpose. The wall facing doors has a pair of massive displays covering entire height of room. Both displays have a bunch of nice looking couches in front of them. Various tables and sofas are placed around in pleasant fashion, couple of familiar looking datapads scattered around near them. Then you start noticing the damage. The massive screen closest to you is broken, its surface shattered by couple of holes large enough to push your arm in. Some sofas have very long and deep cuts criss-crossing and smaller holes through them. There's a hole in ceiling by the screen couches and pile of dust underneath it, as if someone shot ceiling with a gauss rifle. And on the couch closest to the ceiling punch hole sits a skeleton. Top of its skull is missing.

Head into the base and figure out what the hell is going on. Try to find a place I can go explore away from the fools.

Recovering from your self induced headache you follow footsteps of your teammates downstairs. Thankfully they have left quite obvious traces on the floor, so once you reach the second floor its easy to tell in which direction they went to. You give brief examination to the now empty elevator shaft next to stairs, before deciding to keep your distance from the guys and advancing in direction they clearly did not go: west.

Directly west of the elevator is a short corridor with six doors, three on each side facing each other in symmetrical manner. You kick open first one on right side. It reveals a room filled with collapsed beds and lockers. It's basically screaming for military barracks. No fancy skeletons in here. Apart for damage from time, it all seems to perfectly ordered. As if beds were made on morning and simply left alone for hundred years.

Follow the Filgres Toaster person into the next room. Defend him from bourgeois capitalist pigs.

You follow his dexterous example with less theatrics and end up in same room with him. Turns out he doesn't need any protection, capitalist pigs have already handled that part by themselves.

If this is the barracks, the armory should be close to here. Use intuition to figure out which door on this hall leads to valuable weapons, and kick that one open. I am not communicating what I'm doing to the magpie, he has no reason to know if I find valuable stuff.

[Intu: 5] You feel quite confident the armory won't be by this hallway, all those other doors should lead to more barracks, shovers, toilets, you know, all the personal stuff. Trusting in your guts you turn around and return to the long hallway by elevator and stairs. Going north is pointless, others must have already explored it, so southward is your only option. The door next to elevator shaft doesn't feel like right one. Actually, it has a universal toilet sign on it... Nope, totally not there. You keep walking southwards until you reach another branching hallway, past it to the last door and stop. Yeah, this feels right; the door seems stronger type than others.

You rise your feet to kick the door in, and hesitate a moment. What if... nah, probably not.

[Str: 2] Well, ain't that extra hard door. Maybe if you try to pull it instead?

Spoiler: Level 2 (click to show/hide)

Can I like project some lines on the wall with my PDA, to help Vic aim his sledgehammer shots? If so, do so.

Well, you don't exactly have a projector with you, do you? But you have fairly decent display in your faceplate which supports overlays. You could try to use that.

[Aux: 1] You mess with your own faceplate controls and somehow manage to shut down temperature regulation in your suit.

just bash a hole in the wall near a camera then walk off to the others who have ran off

[Str: 2] You give the hammer few gentle experimental swings to get your aim right. Better be careful with this.

Any obvious turrets or defenses?  If no, let's check a couple random datapads.

No, nothing obvious. You glance around and pick up the only unique looking datapad. Unlike others, this one seems to be in very good condition and it also has nice shaped grip along edges, which provides snuggly fit for your hands. You turn it on.

[Will: 3]

The datapad displays "Game Start" before it disappears from your hands.

All lights turn off. Except your headlights.

You hear a creaking noise, grinding of dry bones against each other. You turn to look in direction of the sound and see the skeleton standing up from its couches. It rises its bony arm, pointing a high caliber pistol at your face.

Search the room I'm in with Filgres for any hostiles, nobility, business people, potential threats, and any other stuff that might need killing. Also check for loot.

Hostiles: None alive. Nobility: None. Business people: None. Potential threats: None. Stuff that needs killing: Hmm, none.

As for loot, aside from datapads Filgres is checking out, the skeleton sitting on the couch has a gauss pistol in its cold dead hands. Fairly normal looking thing. It got only four bullets left, though magazine size indicates it can hold at least twice as much.

[Dex: 1]
[End: 1]

You dodge to left, but it appears the skeleton predicted your move. Supersonic butter goes straight through your face, exploding back of your head and helmet away. You sway for a moment before... wondering why you still can think. You lift your hand to your face just to confirm you didn't imagine this, and sure enough, the hole in helmet and in your face is real. Actually, you can put your finger tips together through your head. It's a bit freaky experience.

[Will: 1]

"Haha, what the hell?"

You give a brofist for yourself and observe how your left arm explodes in gory fashion.

The skeleton turns and shoots at shocked Stepan, who fails to avoid damage and gets new hole in his right lung. Unlike you, he falls down.

Try to bypass the lock on the door using computery shit.

[Aux: 6] This is extremely complicated lock, connected to various security systems. Making use of your switchblade you masterfully bypass all those and open the lock ans subsequently the door as well. Behind the door is a room, walls stacked with various rifles. Or half stacked actually. You see quite few empty spots where weapons should be. And something in ceiling, swirling to point at you.

[Dex: 1]
[End: 6]

There's a crack of high caliber piece supersonic metal going through your head and deep into wall behind you. You're damn lucky your brain is not there anymore.

[Aux: 5] Since the menu for temperature management is still open it's very easy to turn it back on. You ought to be more careful.

But Vik, he's just stalling time. Much like rest of your team, just staring at him blankly.

Hmm, sounds like someone is shooting.

Staying with the group, of course. Who knows when someone's going to somehow shoot themselves in the hip (again) or something...

Might as well let them, at least that way they may actually get something done. Speaking of getting things done, you hear shooting from somewhere.

Where did my players disappear? I got here only two actions.

Just go sledge hammer holes in the wall while wandering torwards the sound of shooting and toss a knife into the room

[Str: 6] Having aimed and practiced your swings long enough you finally let loose series of mighty strikes, each sending shards of supercrete and chipped pieces of your hammer flying around, and most importantly, breaking the wall around cameras. With the last strike your hammer breaks apart. You shrug and drop the piece of handle. Good thing it lasted long to finish the job.

Now the shooting, it was only one shot so it makes it a bit harder navigate to, but Citotp's helpful comments guide you to the right location. He's a sad sight, having most of his metal head in mangled pieces on floor, little more than neck and lower jaw remaining where they belong. You pick one of the knives and flick it into the room with a slick movement of wrist. It doesn't seem to induce any response.

Stand to the side of the door. Once Vic the magpie arrives, speak to him:

"Hey, I shot the lock on this door open for you. This room is the armory, should be some good loot in there for you."

Speaking of, your headache lessens a little.

Once Vic is beside the door and waving his arm in front of it, push him into the room.

Citotp makes space for Vik. The second Vik turns his back to the robot man and focus surveying the armory, Citotp spurs into action.

[Dex: 6]
[Vik Dex: 2]
[Str: 3]
[Vik Str: 6]

Citopt plants his hands on Vik's exoskeleton and pushes, but Vik, mostly thanks to said exoskeleton, stands like a wall. He doesn't even notice this attempt for his life.

Vik crouches and observes the room as he can. Hmm, lots of weapon racks, about half are empty, rest have better looking gauss rifles than what he has seen before. South wall has a larger security door that looks like it could take a small nuke and still work as intented. He also spots corner of a desk near it. He peeks further in.

[Dex: 2]
[End: 4]

Vik's faceplate goes suddenly dark and a loud bang deafens his ear. He recoils back and touches the helmet wondering what happened. When his gloved hand finds only sharp and ragged edge of the helmet on right side he becomes suddenly aware of the pain on his right ear.

What happened here was a supersonic metal slug ripping apart right side of his helmet, taking his right ear along and causing lots of deep cuts with high velocity debris of his helmet. All damage done to his helmet causes his suit cease mostl of its functions.

"Aha, at last!"

Go to the first now-exposed camera I come across in try to link it up with my PDA, then have a root around their network to see what I can access.

Unbothered by yet another gauss rifle shot somewhere in the complex you start working.

[Handi: 5] The camera isn't wireless thing so you need to detach it first, and considering the connector isn't exactly the standard one, you have to do some wild jury rigging and cutting to make it more compatible. Thankfully it isn't too different from current standards.

[Aux: 5] First thing to do before connecting ancient technology to your not very powerful wristpad computer is to ensure you stay in control. A small quickly written program secures your system against any possible counter activity. Once your personal security is quaranteed, it is time to work out the communication protocol this complex uses between its endpoints. Thankfully once again it's very similar to what is widely used and that cuts down lot of working time. From there it doesn't take long to break encryption and start injecting your own commands in. By using exposed security camera feed you bypass lots of security systems and gain access to all functional cameras, lights, ventilation and with some additional work you could even get your hands on all active security systems. Fow now you go through all cameras and compile a rough map from what you can get.

"Well, that was close, Vic. I guess this turret only shoots at heads, so I'll be fine."

Go into the armory and grab some weapons. Focus on stuff that still works and/or is different from modern weapons.

You step past bleeding Vik into the armory that still has a functional gauss turret. You are reminded about this when the turret in ceiling moves its aim to your chest.

[Dex: 6]

Not wanting to die just yet you jump backwards on Vik.

[Vik Dex: 6]

Despite of being mostly blinded Vik notices the flying cyborg that's about land on him and dodges right. Right into line of sight with the turret.

[Vik End: 4]

The turret jerks in middle of firing solution to switch targets. This saves Vik's life. Instead of getting face full of hypersonic ferrous metal he merely gets new tear into his suit and a road rash on his left biceps before he half rolls half jumps out of firing line. He's still in the hallway with others, but has open door of death between them and him. And still bleeding.

Shoot out the turret, then craw back . Just be ready to completely and utterly kill citop in every meaning possible if he tries to do any more harm to me
"Agh what the hell you chrome metal dick!"

You didn't notice his attempt for your life, except this new accidental one. But your angry shout is still very well placed.

You pull up your face plate in order to actually see something. It helps, but cracked glass still hinders a little. It might be better idea to simply discard whole helmet, it's not like it can help you anymore.

[Con: 4]

You have pretty good idea where the turret is now, so you perform "run by and shoot" operation past the door, which you are pretty sure hits home. At least it didn't shoot you again. On plus side you are back to right side of the door where the medic can reach you without endangering her own life.

Joanna waits outside of the armory. She'd been meaning to go in, but... gauss shots are not very encouraging. "Is someone wounded in there? Come here if you need some help. Or just moan in pain if you can't move."

Vik and Citotp are both in safe location the moment, as in not walking to be shot by automated defenses. Although it looks like they are doing their hardest to get killed.

Citotp enters the armory and this time nothing tries to kill him. He grabs two neat looking rifles from closest weapon racks. Vik joins looting after taking off his helmet. Just like Citotp he grabs pair of rifles and a smaller pistol. Maya too follows their example and grabs last two rifles.

Guns are all nice and neat, but they do not come with ammo. Apparently magazines are kept elsewhere.

"Hey guys, I managed to get most of the defences off. I might have missed some, so stay a little cautious, yeah?"

Double check if I turned off the stuff around/in the armory, without actually changing any setting, just looking. If yes, go and search the armory with the other.

As far as you can tell, yes, defense system is off. You scamper off to the armory, dragging half conscious Bastien along, and grab the last gauss pistol there.

Tickle slap fight the skeleton until it submits!  Disarm it too probably.

[Dex: 2]
[Skelly Dex: 3]

[Str: 5]

For a walking pile of dry bones the skeleton is suprisingly strong, trying to wrestle himself off your hug and line up another shot with your head.  Frankly your head has one hole too much and you don't want another even if it doesn't seem to kill you. The situation ends up as long struggle, each grapping other's wrists in desperate attempt to gain full control of the pistol.

Stepan stands up.

"Can I get a share of whatever it is you're grabbing, in exchange for not letting you just bleed out? Seriously, I've only got so much supplies."

Well, do medic stuff for the guy that I can reach without endangering my life. If nobody manages to turn the defense systems back on, then go and help the other guy too.

Seems to be safe wander around near turrets for now. You find your bleeding patient and inspect him.

[Med: 2] Hmm, well... missing ear is probably bad. As are all those glass and metal shards embedded in his face. But he won't die. You shrug and move to the next man.

[Med: 2] You poke a bit around wires and other stuff in his torn open neck stump. He seems perfectly fine, like straight from factory. "Stay cool and don't lose your head."

Open the desk and search through it before wandering off torwards the next room.

Drawers of the desk crumble into dust when you try pull it open, effectively breaking whatever that was inside. At least nothing obviously solid and sizable enough can be found from the pile. Rising dust makes you cough.

There are two rooms you could go to. One directly south of the armory, but the closed metal door appears very hard to break or open. Another is north of the armory, likewise behind a secure door.

Stepan stumbles towards you, blindly grasping air for support but fails to find any.

Checking my corners and double checking if I shut down all relevant defences, try to make my way to room 2 on level 3, the important looking one with the suicided skeleton. Look for relevant data there.

You head back to the stairs and follow them down the level 3. Incidentally that's as low as these stairs will take you. The elevator doors directly south of stairs are little bulged outwards, just enough to be noticeable. After confirming there's nothing that would hurt you you follow the clean corridor to north and then to east towards you goal, stopping shortly to observe the skeletons and the open door leading north near the room 2.

It's a large open room, edges being covered by computer stations. The center is completely empty, except pair of meter wide half spheres embedded in ceiling. The room has been a site for firefight and victims have not been removed. Three skeletons are laying on floor in pieces, bones clearly cut by something sharp. Fourth victim is sitting on a lonely seat. This one has a bladed metal wire through his skull, one end hanging limp from skull, other end hidden behind his back.

Shaking your head for this insanity you head to room 2. Again double checking there's nothing actively dangerous you open the door.

This room is, or was, well decorated. Walls were probably painted originally, but now paint has mostly flaked off, only few faded sections still hanging on supercrete walls by almost collapsed bookshelves. Pair of decorative lamps are fixed on ceiling, only screws are left of the third. Four broken seats are facing a wide table in front of the grinning skeleton. Only objects on the table are a completely featureless book, same bland color as walls are, and a plate with some writing on it. You can barely make out words "Lt  Co* Ron**" (* being unreadable letter).

Follow Grits, who seems to know what's up.

Like Grits before you, you head downstairs to next level, observe all same traces of self destruction of humans, whips through skulls and so on. You find Grits in the room he said he would be in, handling a book thoughtfully. He turns around, stares you a brief moment before rising his gauss rifle.

[Dex: 3]
[End: 3]

He shoots you around the chest, not quite hitting your brain, but apparently destroying lots of important systems. Your legs give up and you fall down like a particularly heavy ragdoll. Most of your eyes are not working, actually only your left hand seems to still be functional. Rest of your body is not. And you get persistant notification about changing your brain food tube soon.

Grits steps over you, heading out of your extremely limited vision.

Craw to the medic and let them patch me up

Instead of walking like a sane man would, you drop down like a dead and crawl whole distance of three meters to Joanna like a drowning lungfish.

Check out the featureless book, it might contain important info.

Then go to the room I passed with the computer stations, and check out said stations for relevant data. Do double check that the defences in that room are off before I enter, though. Can't be too sure.

The book is suprisingly heavy and hard for its size. In addition looks like its pages and covers are glued together, making it all impossible to open.

[Will: 1]

Deep wave of depression overwhelms you.

This is pointless. Like trying to open the book, this whole mission is pointless. You never quite bought that whole "complete 10 missions and get full pardon" thing anyway. They are going to get you killed long before that. There's nothing meaningful in future for you. Might as well end it all now and rob higher ups the pleasure. Oh, wait. There are others here too, all facing same fate. Might as well help them out of their misery, even if they don't realize it. And look, Citotp is already here. Good.

[Con: 6]

You fire multiple shots into his chest. He falls down with satisfying thud. One saved from the misery that's life. Many more to go. You step over his corpse and head to the stairs, clutching the book in your chest like a holy bible or something.

Crawl to the medic and let them patch me up
"Didn't I already check you? Did you get wounded again...?"

Well, let's try that again then...

He crawls to you in disturbingly flopping fashion.

[Med: 2]

You suspect he might have some mental issues.

FINISH HIM

[Uncon: 5] Single upper cut (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN7w10-l_iE) with your kin amp turns its spine and most of its ribs into fine dust and sends its ever grinning skull flying. You spit a piece of your brain stuff out of your mouth and turn to check what the hell Stepan is doing.

[Dex: 6] Trying to whack you with his rifle, as it turns out. You dodge his poor swings without looking where you are going and end up tripping on one of the poor sofas here.

[Exo: 2] Considering he's already out of sight you are shooting blind. That means you have to either target large area or hope to get lucky. You attempt to freeze him, but your efforts are rewarded with arrival of your old friend; a pounding headache.

((Wat))

Attempt to Snap out of it.

[Will: 2] Life is, in a word, misery. Everything must come to the inevitable end. Any attempt to avoid it is doomed to fail. Your only comfort is to reduce amount of time spent in misery.

Your return to the stairs, climb up to the floor above and look for victims of life. Ah, there's Vik by armory door.

[Con: 2] You raise your rifle, but drop it down again when he walks back into armory, out of sight. You feel moisture in your eyes. Why they must prolong their pointless existance? You weakly shake your head and walk closer.

Welp, uselessmedics are useless Stick with the medic  and go bash a hole near the metal door for the hacker, if I encounter any hostiles shoot them up and dice them to bits with the las rifle.

For a brief confusing moment you walk out of armory and then turn back in in process of trying to decide which wall you are going to bash. In the end you decide on the southern armory wall, despite the fact you don't exactly have anything to bash walls with. Eh, your fists will do.

[Str: 5]
[End: 5]

You give the wall exoskeleton boosted punch, perfect in form and range. Your opponent however is a supercrete wall. All you get for your effort is bruised knuckles.

Welp finnaly be back after the lomgest string of stuff ever and ascertain where prick is and alive/dead status.

Hello. The prick is very much alive in looted armory (Level 2, room 8 if you look maps few turns ago) with Maya, Joanna and Vik. And Grits too, actually. He just arrived to the door, holding a non-descript book and rifle in his hands.

"So that's who hid the cameras!"

Disarm him!  Ideally go full "stop hitting yourself" on him.

[Dex: 3,6]
[Str: 6]

You try to grab his next swing with one hand while trying to get up. This, naturally, doesn't quite work very well, but you manage to get up without getting bonked into head. When next swing comes you jump on his arm like a monkey, grabbing it with your both legs and arms. That's excellent position to pefrom cross armlock, which you of course do of your best ability. The end result is Stepan got his shoulder and elbow dislocated.

You grab his limp arm and use it as a wet whip, whacking his head repeatedly from front and behind.

"Stop hitting yourself, dude! That's a job for capitalist pigs!"

Give him a chance to yield.

He completely ignores your placating gesture for some reason. It might have something to do with how you treated his broken arm.

[Dex: 6]

He also ignores his broken arm, and instead twists himself in your grip to punch you with his other fist. A pitiful swing you nonchalantly avoid by kick jumping away. He's rather lively considering the additional breathing hole in his lungs. Better put him down before he hurts himself or others more.

[Uncon: 2]

He dodges your backhand slap with kin amp hand easily. Very lively indeed.

"Yeah, sure, go for it. That sounds like an amazing idea." Grits says, backing up "I'm just going to make some distance between me an it, ya know, bad memories of the thing and such."

Yeah, better retreat before they do something stupid. You take few steps back and run towards the stairs down, ignoring sound of gauss rifle firing and flash of cold light that follows immediately afterwards. Whatever they did, they can deal with it by themselves.

You run down the stairs quickly and make your way to the target room with less haste. Now, you do not have a direct connection to the system anymore so you can't be absolutely sure, but you're fairly certain there wasn't any automated weapons in that room. And you have already walkes past it twice, so it should be safe. But it doesn't hurt to be careful.

You stop in front of the open doorframe and peer inside carefully Only suspicious piece of potentially dangerous machinery are those two large half spheres in ceiling.

[Int: 6] Ah, right. Those are mechanical boobs, you nod sagely. Just don't stand directly below them and they won't be a problem.

Now, these computers. First two refuses to work, but third starts up. It asks for a password.

[Aux: 5] Your first attempt, name of the planet repeated thrice, seems to be correct one. Lucky guess!

Now that you are safely logged in you take a look what programs and data there's available. Aside of the standard set of office programs there's a bunch of more interesting ones; one to control holoprojectors somewhere, a bunch that seem to be related to communications which all throw you "404 server not found" errors. From logs you find out these programs have been giving same error for over a year when they were last time used few centuries ago. Oldest sign of activity before 404 errors is a launch command somewhere.

Sebastien shrugs.
Throw book at grits feet fire gun at book.

[Will: 6]

Just as you begin throwing the book Grits hightails it out of the armory and away. Hmph. "Coward" you shout after him. You throw the book anyway. There's no reason to shoot target in your own hands.

[Con: 5]

You casually raise the gun on your shoulder and fire before the book even hits the ground. There's a blinding flash of cold blue light when the bullet hits the book. Book shatters into millions golden embers that disappear into ceiling. What remains behind is only the bullet you fired, now lost of it's metallic shine. It also now bears same dull color as the book did and makes a sound very unlike metal when it gently rolls on the floor.

>I Q1LL reduce IIIIZRat##roM your pMOOVLA.

Shoot the book too.
Stay away from the book.
kill the book with a kinamp punch

There's no book anymore, only a gauss slug on its place that doesn't look metallic anymore. If anything, it looks like a cylinder carved out of  concrete. It even sounds like one.

I think the word you're looking for is murder.

[Uncon: 5] You strike while he's unbalanced. Kinetic amplifier hits his chest squarely and borderline magical technology inside makes his whole torso explode backwards with thunderous clap, painting half of the room with thin layer of blood, gore and viscera. His head, arms and lower body collapse on floor, never rising again.

It finally occurs to you that team radio channel has been quiet for a while.

Also, if nobody else goes to pick up the guy I shot when under the influence of the "book", go and drag him to a medic after I do my computery stuff.

None of the projectors are on.

Easiest way is just to write the message down on your wristpad so you do exactly that.

Ignoring everything else in the room you go to Citotp's metal body. [Str: 3] His body is locked up in uncomfortable position, which makes him rather hard to pick up. The best you can do is to drag him by his feet to the stairs. If miss medic wants to help him, her better come down and do it here.

Huh.  Filgres switched to radio.

"This is Filgres here, status update.  Hostile skeleton is neutralized, and the traitorous Stephan is put down.  How's things going around?"

Check in.  Also didn't I get injured here?  Status check on those too.

Nobody responds you. Radio channel is completely silent.

And you do have a big hole through your head. And helmet. If you poke our finger in you can feel your brain. It doesn't bother you the slightest.

Assuming that the radio is open-channel or something...

"I'm not sure I'm equipped to fix you, really. I'm a medic, not a mechanic. If your braincase has been fucked I might be able to find a way to preserve it?"

Radio works fine. A little bit staticky when calling people on other floors, but otherwise fine.

And your med skill does cover repairing mechanical systems used to maintaining human life, even those in robot bodies.

Switch to radio.
"One of you please explain what's going on for the simpletons that may be listening on this frequency."

On radio now.

"So, are we done here? Seems that we've disabled security, gotten acess to the cameras and discovered some strange shit. Seems we're done."

I assume by "next room" you mean the one connected directly to armory, room 8 in the map below.

Spoiler: Level 2 (click to show/hide)

That door is unfortunately securely locked. It doesn't open simply by pushing, be it with your laser rifle's butt or not. [Gen. Know: 5] And shooting it won't work either. Its slightly reflective surface indicates good amount of laser defense, and being metal and possibly thick too renders gauss weapons equally ineffective. Not to mention the turret here is still operational, even if it currently ignores your presence. Security system may not take property destruction very well, especially in important location such as an armory.

walk up to an active turrent and poke it by myself (was fun but ive lost interest)

All right.

You jump up and give the turret barrel a slight tap. It doesn't react. You try again, a bit harder. No reaction. "Third time's the charm", you muse and put more strength into your punch, making sure to not use the hand with kin amp.

This time you get a reaction: the turret swivels around to point your face. There's a sound of something breaking, kind of electric zap from somewhere in ceiling, and then nothing. No bullets, no sudden death. But when you try move around you find the turret still tracks you. Hmm.

Follow the people to level 4
"someone help me destroy the turret"

You patiently wait for someone to take the lead, feet restlessly tapping floor.

"Any time now!"

"Once I patch up the hurt guy, I'll be over."

Go find [Egan's character], see if I can help them out.

He was stated to be downstairs, wasn't he? You walk out of the armory, past waiting Vik to the stairs and down to next level where you find Citotp's broken body. Huh, he's quite mess. Let's diagnose him and see if there's something to do.

[Med: 1] Hmm, this part isn't necessary. You don't quite remember what the part was called, but it's leaking fluids and that's bad. You rip out all tubes connecting it to the rest of the body and throw it away. Then you rip out few more redundant parts, plug tubes and slap some instantly hardening covering from your kit to cover and support remaining bits. All done! Better not turn on his systems yet in case he tries to extract revenge on Grits.

[Citotp End: 6] Sudden and complete sensory deprivation takes you by suprise, but you hold on despite of rapidly increasing drowsiness. Must be part of treatment, you reason. Just hold on a little longer and you can go back punching Grits.

"Hmmm.  Something is compromised here."
Check the doors.

Doors open just fine, despite of general stiffiness and lack of maintenance. The hallway behind the door is also completely normal, flickering lights and all. Did they already complete the mission and ditched you here? Bastards...

"All right then, I'll scout ahead. Don't forget to come check on me, there might still be active defences on level 4."

Move to level 4 and go check room 6, with the red text flashing on the screens. Make sure to double check for active defences before entering the room, though. If there's nothing in there that's going to kill me, check out the computers.

Stairs connecting levels 1 thru 3 do not extend to level 4. It makes sense, probably all the most important systems are down there, so giving straight path from surface to there may not be wisest bunker design choice. And there wasn't anything like access point on north side so you figure it must be on southern side.

You go down to level 3 Vik following you like a puppy, past Joanna, Citotp's still frozen body and pile of mechanical bits leaking fluids. Elevator door next to stairs is still bulged out. First door past elevator seems to lead infirmary of some type, judging by its white and clinical appearance. Looking the map you put together earlier, first doors in east are gym, armory and possibly general offices, so that leaves you two unknown doors. You walk over there and check them out.

First one is clearly a shooting range. A very long room with clearly marked "stand here" spots and "no walking" zone. Not your goal. Vik and other violent types might like it though. That leave's one, no wait, two doors. There's a sliding door type identical to the broken elevator and a sturdy one not unlike the one protecting western stairwell. You shrug, might as well check in order you noticed them. You leave the potential elevator door for last in case sturdier one doesn't yield what you want.

Unfortunately it is locked tightly. As is the possibly elevator door. Both want some access key.

Spoiler: Level 3 (click to show/hide)

Now, back in the armory.

[Maya Dex: 2]
[Maya End: 1]

The turret fires single round. Maya doesn't even notice. Contents of her skull mostly exit the suit explosively. ((You're ded ded.)) Then turret turns around and shoots at Bastien.

Bastien twitches before collapsing on floor new large hole in his chest. ((You're ded.))

Punch a hole? With your bare fist?

[Str: 6]
[End: 2]
[End: 6]

You deliver exoskeleton powered punch on concrete wall with your bare first bereft of slightest protection. The result is predictable. You break your wrist and shatter bones in your hand. Bone shards pierce skin and tear tendons. You stare you mangled fist and fail to comprehend what happened.

Seriously. What did you expect to happen?

"Yeah. Usually work on fleshies though. Don't worry, just making sure your brain doesn't get fucked up first, you know? The body's replaceable, but your brain goes and you're gone. Sensory deprivation will be over in juuuust a bit"

Well, let's continue to medic. Properly, hopefully.

[Med: 5] Now that you think about it, wasn't that his brain case you threw out? ...yeah, it is. That's bad, he's probably dying at the moment. Oh well, everybody makes mistakes. But better fix this one quickly before he dies.

You rip out the plastic covering you placed and put the brain case back along with other parts you threw out. Jeez, Grits really did some serious damage here, not to mention all the damage you did without thinking... You have to hotwire a lot of stuff and despite of all juryrigging you can't restore everything. Some systems are simply too broken. For example his right leg is completely frozen from hip down. Everything above artificial neck i But at least the body works mostly and he won't die due lack of nutriets and oxygen. Unless he already did. Quickly, run diagnostics...

[Citotp End: 1]

>Skeletal system: Head; missing, Chest: minor damage
>Musculature: Chest: minor damage
>Sensory systems: Partial functionality
>Internal performance limiters: Online
>Life support systems: Functioning
>Brain-case: Secure
>Organic controller: Dead.

*sigh* ...talk about wasted materials.

Creep into the hallway.  Look for survivors.

The hallway is empty aside from creepily blinking lights. Last you remember other people were in the northern room so you quietly walk that way and check the room. Huh, looks like ceiling have collapsed without you noticing. You can see pair of limp arms sticking from under the rubble. And someone's upper body... ugh, looks like a big metal grider fell on them and neatly cut them half at waist height. Judging by blood stains and trailing guts they managed to crawl little away before succumbing to their wounds. What unpleasant way to die. You suppose that explains radio silence.

Back off and let whatshisname punch the door, see if that doesn't make it so I can get safely inside. If yes, go inside after checking for defences and check the place out.

If no, go and check out the general offices first.

He magnificently breaks his hand against wall. You really shouldn't expect anything sensible from your so called teammates. You leave him swearing alone.

The offices looks just like they looked from security camera feed. Holes in walls from gun fight and pair of slashes on floor by some cutting weapon. Chairs have crumbled long time ago and desks are still barely hanging. Two still have computer resting on top, but third has fallen to floor though desk. You are unable tell by glance if they still work. Chances are they do, since other computers did too.

We have one dead, two temp dead, one suffering from stasis paralysis, one in his own world and one majorly hurting himself. That leaves only two fully functional people and one partially functional.

[Con: 4] You spend 15 seconds firing laser rifle with only one hand on the door. As soon as you are done you can kick it in, big chunk of metal clattering down the dark stairwell. Oh right, all lighs have turned off and you don't have any lights.

Allrighty then, double check there's nothing in the room that's going to kill me. Then try to power up one of those computers and see what I can access from here.

All lights you can see in the facility go dark. Oh well, it's a good thing you have your helmet lights still on. Suprisingly enough the first computer you try boots up, but unfortunately displays an error message: "Server actively refused connection". The second computer says exactly same thing. Third one doesn't work.

((Yeh, he's braindead but cell decay won't start any time soon since you fixed the nutrient system. So he's salvageable even if you recover only the brain case. But then again it's four hour trip back to the shuttle.))

All lights shut off while you drag Citotp's body into the door frame. As long as you trip on him you probably will remember pick his brain up. With that done you follow Grits' tracks down to southern hallway where you can see his lamp light glowing from office room. He seems to be staring some computer displays there.

Yep, it's a stairway down.

You head to the newly opened stairway where Vik stands triumphantly. Both him and the medic follows you down as you take the lead. These stairs are longer than the previous ones, it may be easily over 50 meters in total height, turning back and forth repeatedly until you finally reach a door to fourth level. Stairs do continue down to fifth level too, but all the interesting stuff is here. The door opens easily, but all lights are off on this level too unlike when you checked through security cameras.

[Intu: 2]

It's fine though, you have your own lights. There's no light, no sound, no movement other than your own, and of your followers' (In particular Vik's moaning and sharp gasps everytime he makes too hasty movements with his broken hand). Bit creepy, but nothing particularly weird. Though it would be annoying if there was power failure. That would make it considerably harder to download any data. You silently creep towards your goal until you stand in front of room 7 door. Above it is engraved text "Climate Control". Huh, this is first time you can find any written indication about what any room might be for. Well, the door is locked, suprisingly enough.

Dunno how I managed to miss a day...

Shoot open door 1 for the guys

Since Grits is keeping eye on surroundings and Vik doesn't have his helmet anymore, it's up to Joanne to provide light for Vik.

[Con: 1] Lasering door lock is precision work so you need your both hands for this. Unfortunately you forgot your right hand is a concentrated ball of broken pain and you end up swinging your laser around very dangerously, wasting last watts in the battery.

[End: 6]
[Joanna Dex: 6]

You cut off your right leg, but don't even notice it. Your focus is entirely focused on your broken right hand and swearing flowing from your mouth would make even most experienced space sailor blush.

Joanna notices incoming swing and dodges it just in time. She jumps on Grits who wasn't prepared for tackle, and both end up on floor akwardly piled.

Number of functional people is dropping rapidly...

Judging how you were tackled on floor and stream of curses Vik shouts you assume he failed. Trying to ignore the fact Joanna fell on your ass and the fact Vik is very rapidly bleeding out you get up and check the lock.

[Aux: 5] Perhaps you should always try to bypass locks using your own skills first rather than relying violent approach your teammates seem to prefer. Seriously. All it takes is pulling case of the electronic lock open and fiddle little bit with wires and circuits and boom! It's open.

On the computer screens you manage to see number of graphs representing atmospheric conditions in various rooms and some other data about life support condition around the base, most almost on red. Then screens go dark as computers lock themselves out.

((Good times))

Any survivors around?  Dave will not be happy.

No living survivors around and you are not sure if you count as one either.

Oh, and lights went out just now. You are left in complete darkness in collapsed room with your late teammate's upper half as your only company. Then, sounds of little legs. Hundreds little skittering legs. Very familiar sound. You have heard this before, back when your feets were burned off. Remember? Those hungry little bastards?

[Med: 6] Vik is certainly in bad shape here. With his femoral artery cut he's bleeding out very soon and then he will be just another dead weight for you to carry. Even if you manage to keep him alive you (or Grits) still will end up dragging him and his exoskeleton all the way back. Better reduce that dead weight to minimum right away.

You take out your monoatomic razor and cut off his head. Now he doesn't have to suffer about his broken arm either. And if you liberate his exoskeleton it's going to be so much easier to get bodies and brains back. Its funny how it keeps standing despite lack of head.

Medicine is a cruel mistress. By which I mean a psychotic yandere bitch who insists on being the last one allowed to harm you.

Well, shit. There's only one thing to it then. Go to that one unmarked reinforced door on this floor, carefully and checking for danger. If I make it to said door, see if there's any way to open it up.
