Title: Hermaphrodite reproduction?
Post by: ShadowHammer on January 03, 2014, 07:59:36 pm
What if I add both [MALE] and [FEMALE] to a creature's tags? Will they be able to create offspring by themselves, or will it just act like they are genderless?
Answered.
New question: Is there any way to make hermaphrodite reproduction?

Whichever is added last will be used, the other will be ignored.

Yes, but it's complex and stupid and heals all injuries too.
Transform the creature into one of 3 parts. Make the middle part evaporate. Ressurrect the end bit and transform it into a 'baby' (but with all the abilities of an adult), then transform back. So, not that I know of, really.

Ok, thanks. Looks like that's that for cave blob breeding programs. I know I could add a male and female caste, but that would kind of ruin the point of a big single celled cave creature. Oh well.

You can do it with scripts. give the genderless creature a self-targetted interaction that has a wait time of a year (or how often they should reproduce), which triggers the script "SyndromeTrigger", and runs "spawnunit BLOB_ID caste-numer name". The blob will spawn a new blob every time he does the interaction. You could do even one that floods your fort with a blobs-plosion, a hundret times worse than cats.

Its a bit more complex to set up, but totally doable.
