Anyone running 40.01 on Linux?

Code: [Select]
./libs/Dwarf_Fortress: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I clearly have the file installed in
Code: [Select]
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libSDL-1.2.so.0

This is perhaps a bit late, but it is indeed a 32-versus-64-bit issue. For posterity, these should probably fix it:
Arch:
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -S lib32-sdlUbuntu, Mint, or other Ubuntu derivative:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2-dev:i386Debian:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install ia32-libsFedora:
Code: [Select]
sudo yum install SDL.i386

As I don't have the new version yet, do dwarves produce human-sized steel gear?

Ooh, just found a new thing (spoilered for those who like to find for themselves, please be sensitive in any replies)

In a fat-fingered moment while setting up another military squad I accidentally created a captain of the guard rather than a militia captain.  His squad of near-legendary hammerdwarves equipped with high quality silver hammers then took it upon themselves to dispense justice to all the mandate breakers in the fortress.  It was quite messy.

Thank you DrKill, I ended up jumping to windows in anticipation of the dwarf therapist eventually getting updated.

Anyone else find that world creation is very slow or non-responsive when trying to generate a medium world with 2 Entire-edge Oceans? I tried a variety of Initial/Final Ocean Regions (2/2, 3/3, 4/2, 7/5, 13/7, 20/20). In some cases world creation would move forward, however very slowly (only attempted 3 worlds before I realized it wasn't going to get any faster).

I settled on a world with 1 entire-edge ocean and 2 partial edge oceans.

Ubuntu, Mint, or other Ubuntu derivative:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2-dev:i386

Uh, are you sure about this? I'm on Xubuntu, and it seems to be uninstalling everything.

I think it's switching everything over to versions that use the 32bit sdl libraries, but I'm not certain.

Edit: Yeah ok I'm certain. That's still a lot more changes than advertised, though. I had thought this'd be a simple fix...

So, I found something odd.

A few dorfs and humans sleeping in a cave spider silk tent, in the middle of nowhere, with trolls nearby. It was weird.

Also, don't try to manually "block" in combat, it makes the game crash.

Yeah, this doesn't work. I still can't use my linux DF version, AND It uninstalled like half my computer. I had to reinstall firefox, for example, and It looks like I'll need to reinstall my update manager, ubuntu software center, and I don't even know what else. So, I think we've all learned a lesson here: Don't follow random advice off the internet without looking more carefully at it, and don't give random advice on the internet without considering it more carefully.

Huh, that's weird. Can't say I know much about multilib (or multiarch as it's apparently called elsewhere) on Ubuntu and derived, but I should think that 32-bit libraries wouldn't override your 64-bit stuff. Here's Ubuntu's page on multiarch, it may help you some.

Just to add on to the list, for gentoo you'd need to do something like
Code: [Select]
# emerge -av emul-linux-x86-sdlassuming of course that you're using a multilib profile.

There's a wiki entry on getting DF to run on 64-bit Linux.
Disclaimer: I haven't tried it with the current Ubuntus :P
Although installing the 32-bit libs never caused any issues for me.

The generation and update times of medium plus worlds are definitely unbearable. Particularly the latter, and they seem to grow exponentially for the bigger world sizes.

If the bi-weekly update is supposed to happen every time one resumes play, it's probably a game-breaker for medium worlds and above.
