Be sure that every time the zinc ore Sphalerite is struck by the dwarf, it emits light.
http://mineral.galleries.com/minerals/property/pleochro.htm#trib You could even inlay floors with it, so every time a dwarf steps on it, the area around him is slightly illuminated.  :D
