Title: ~ Fallout: Adventurers of the Wasteland (Dr. Decoy) - [FULL] ~

You are a party of scavengers, mercenaries and the like, Adventurers of the Wasteland, if you will, having met on the road throughout the course of the last few days - joining together for the journey to New Vegas.
You've decided to travel there in hopes of making it big through work in the area, people 'like you' always seem to be in high demand around those parts.

You've also recently heard rumors on the road that war, indeed, never changes - and Caesar's Legion may be making another advance Westwards, possibly looking for another chance at taking Hoover Dam. If true, this could mean even more work, and even bigger money.

But only just now has the mining community of Sloan finally come within clear view on the road up ahead, and beyond it, the towering casinos of The Strip. Dusk is just beginning to fall, so you may need to stay in Sloan for the night, though at least you'll get a nice view of the city's lights. You've always heard them described as a thing of near unparallelled beauty out here in the vast desert wastelands, and until now you've seen only a faint glow on the horizon.

This is a Forum RPG taking place in (an expanded) Fallout setting. As you might have gathered from the intro, you players will form a party of Mercenaries/Scavengers of the like with a common goal, having met on the road to New Vegas - you've decided to band together.

Yeah, suddenly another Fallout game. I love the Fallout universe, but it's not one I often use with RPs and unfortunately I didn't get a chance to join up in the other game - so here's one of my own.

Of course, you don't necessarily need to be a Mercenary, Scavenger or whatever, that just makes you joining up with the others for the long term easy to explain.

Combat is turn based - and it goes by an Action Point system.
(Usually characters will have 8 in total, various actions take a variable amount of points to perform, as you might expect.)

In case you don't know about this neat little trick: If you see text like This with the dotted line, mouse over it for a little tooltip.
I do make use of this a lot, usually for things like items, but I think I recall someone mentioning it didn't work for them a long while back - so let me know if it doesn't work for you.

And lastly, you might want to post before you begin work on a character sheet. I think the player limit will be 6, but I'm not entirely sure yet.

History:Hell if he knows. Maxwell knows he was a raider of the Capital Wasteland at one point, then woke up in Mariposa Military Base, many, many years after the vault dweller's actions at the place. With little ideas on where to go, Maxwell went where the road took him.

History : Harvey is a young man who keeps his past to himself, he gets by on his skill with guns and his ability to talk circles around most people while he carries out the mission thats sent him away from home for many years now though he never discusses it.

WELCOME TO SLOAN
Home to the Mother Lode Casino


Is the sign, now dimly lit by a single flickering light as the sky continues to grow darker, that wishes to welcome you into the small mining town of Sloan.

The sign itself is rather large, and stands in the middle of the freeway leading up to New Vegas - and though you do notice lights on the freeway ahead, you also notice it looks like the actual town itself is much further off to your left. You can see the quarry in the distance, and closer than that, a large, well lit, and surprisingly well fortified looking building.
You continue up the road, and it's now that you notice a rather large presence of armed guards just ahead on the freeway. By the looks of it, what looks like it could be some sort of town guard, and some NCR troopers. They're accumulated around both a massive pen filled with Brahmin to the left side of the road, and to the right of that a stop filled with parked trailers and covered wagons. But most of them seem to be up ahead, at some sort of checkpoint built onto an overpass. You watch as a group of travelers ahead of you is sent off down the road to the left and towards the town itself. As you grow closer to the pen you begin to overhear an argument between an NCR Trooper and a man with a large mustache, and an even larger hat.

 "Now, you just wait one minute here son! I can't just go an' turn this caravan back an' go around them mountains!" The hatted man shouts, violently waving an arm around towards the mountains to the East. "I don't have another two days to spend out here in the desert with my thumbs up my ass, we're on a tight schedule here!"

"The road ahead is dangerous sir," the Trooper replies, "And the road back to Jean may be just as much so in the night. Your Brahmin will be safe here, but we'd recommend you head into town and stay there for the night, it-" He continues, before being interrupted.

"Now you're tellin' me we have to stay here? This is about them escaped convicts of yours, ain't it? If you folks over at the NCR could run a god damn, proper prison-" The hatted man responds, before the Trooper notices the group beginning to pass by.

"Wait!" He calls out, "The road ahead is dangerous! I'm going to have to suggest you stay in Sloan for the night - Turn around and travel back to Jean if you need to, but we can't let you beyond this point."

"Dangerous at night? and why would it be less dangerous at day? A quicker death in sniper fire? Son, in my days we got rid of convicts. no reason to waste a perfectly good defensible building like a prison on them. What were you thinking?"

Kat's thumb slid her hat upwards on her brow. Her bright green eyes sparkled in the dusk light from under the brim as she spoke to her new group of friends. Hopefully they'd have better luck than the last one...

"...I'd like to point out for the sake of argument, a component of NCR's success in rebuilding is due to not shooting everyone they see-in fact, if you're going to rebuild something instead of just burning it all down, that's the most important part. And they use the prisons for cheap labor anyway, I hear. Works out all round.

Sure, occasionally a bad bunch would be better off dead and buried...but, there's just as many that can change their colors, if given a fair chance. Even if only to save themselves, and that's good enough for these times." Kat said smoothly, speaking into her group.

"Now, I'm not the sharpest tack in the box, but I'm sniffing out a job here-two jobs, maybe. You all interested in finding out?"

Harvey looks at the group then shrugs.

" Give me a minute and I'll find out what our fee would be for doing his job for him, I don't much care one way or another so if you wanna go kill them thats good with me.

Btw if you see any scrap metal could one of you make a suppressor for my rifle and maybe one for my pistol as well?



Harvey then walks up to the NCR Trooper.

" We can take care of ourselves friend, what would be in it for us if we were to liberate those prisoners heads from their bodies so to speak? Sitting around doing nothing isn't really our style. "

Find out how much we can make for dealing with the prisoners, barter the price up as far as I can and try to persuade him to include access to the NCR armory in the town as a bonus for taking the risks for them if he seems amenable. Or any monster problems they're having.

Elliot listened intently to all sides of the conversation before he chimed in himself, "I think the nice Trooper here is making mention of things... hmmm, what's a good way to put it... Deadlier than a bandit in the night." He then feigned a thinking face with a hand stroking his chin and a sly grin, "Although honestly I would pay good money to see Max go up against a Deathclaw."

Elliot chuckled lightly before he nodded in Harvey's direction slightly, acknowledging his request to ask for a price for the job and his own request to make him a suppressor for his rifle and pistol. Although soon after Takoka also said how she could help out. Elliot personally didn't mind if he made it or not, no need to compete within the group, it would only lead to problems later.

"You know, I've heard plenty about Deathclaws-they're moon demons apparently-patched a few guys tore up bad from what mighta been them-or seen whats left of them-and even fired at things in the dark that certainly looked like they had big claws-but, I've never seen one for myself up close. Which I consider myself fortunate for, based on their description.

Have you ever seen one? Or killed one?"

"Saw a deathclaw once. Attacked a brahmin. Took a head off with a single swing of it's hands. Horrible scaly thing. Heard some tribes make gauntlets from their claws, though you'd have to get them first."

"Moon demons?" He said with disbelief in his tone, "Nah, they're just real nasty mutants. The last time I saw one was when I was a kid back when I lived with my dad. Town was evacuated to the NCR camp nearby and 7 men fired on the thing. It didn't last too long but one guy did get too close and one swipe to his chest and BAM! Intestines on the ground and he bled out in seconds."

Elliot closed his eyes and shivered slightly as he remembered the event, "Nasty shit in this wasteland man..." he mumbled as he readjusted the strap for his shotgun around his shoulder.

The Trooper stares at the group for a while as they trail off into talking amongst themselves about prisons and deathclaws and such. This gives the hatted man plenty of an opportunity to start shouting his ear off again, at first about the prisoners but then about deathclaws.

"Look, sir, I'm going to have to ask you to leave now. My answer isn't going to change because it's not my answer to change." He says, before turning to Harvey as he approaches, though he stops him before he gets to say too much. "And I'm also not the person you want to talk to about this, but I can tell you now that the people who are the people you'd want to talk to about it aren't going to be interested."



Takako might be able to make a very simple suppressor with the stuff in her pack, if she were lucky - but only right now if she wanted to sit down in the middle of the road for a while to do it.

The trooper explains, directing you towards the fortified building you noticed on your way here.

"Most of the town is being kept there right now, and it's where you should go if you're looking for a place to spend the night."


It looks like the others are still talking about Deathclaws.

"Not natural. Because chameleons? Not that big. Aren't bipedal. Heard old stories from California that some deathclaws used to talk. Strange. No proper lips. Not sure if it's true. Lot of false information out there. Like the Sierra Madre. Not such place.  Lot of people looked for it. Didn't ever come back."

"Hey there. Couldn't but help overhear your problem...my friends and I are sort of people that fix problems, for a price. You know you're not going to get any help from the NCR, so if you're willing to cut into your profits a bit, you might purchase safe passage forward with us on guard.

Let's talk business, if you're interested-otherwise, I'd listen to the nice soldier-man, and just sit pretty till this all blows over."

Action: Talk to the hatted merchant and ask how much he'll pay us for protection on the route

As the group notices Harvey beginning to wander off towards the town, Kathryn approaches the hatted man as he and his four bodyguards walk off towards the town as well, catching them before they get too far.

"Now ma'am, I might if I could - but they aren't gonna let anyone through, an' I don't think we can go an' slip a caravan right on by them... But, you folks are mercenaries, I reckon?"
He asks, glancing back to the rest of the group.
"Now, none of the wares I'm deliverin' are for sale, but I always carry some... Extra little things along, things that I think you an' your friends might be interested in. If you are, meet me again over in town, I'm sure we won't be too hard to miss."
He says, before tipping his hat and turning to continue his walk towards the town.

She set out in that direction with a word to her friends.

"I'll be down there in town making some caps. I shouldn't be hard to find if you need me-unless they've got a decent clinic, I'll be patching up jobbers and miners in the back room of the best bar they have.

Let's hope they pay me some in free whiskey shots..." She finishes to herself, heading off.

Action: Kat heads to town and looks for an opportunity to barter her medical skill at the local inn, or a clinic if they have one

Elliot strokes his chin as he thinks, "Whiskey eh?... Hmm, I could go for a drink. Anybody else up for a trip to the pub? I'm sure they have a gecko problem we could probably fix to pay for ourselves." As he finishes, he swings his shotgun into his hand and double checked to make sure the gun was loaded and ready to fire at a moments notice.

The group, (Assuming Frag, Takoko, and Liz don't want to stand around on the road outside) makes their way down the dark road after Harvey. The only part of town that currently seems to be lit is the warehouse (And the large parking lot around it) the Trooper mentioned. It's completely surrounded by a long wall of old shipping containers, dotted with sandbags and the occasional guard.

You follow the road along the wall until it opens to make an entrance on the North side, stopping to let a battered old pick-up truck and its blinding headlights drive down the road from the quarry and turn through the gate.

The town consists of the Warehouse, a small building next to it, which according to the sign glowing brightly over it, facing the entrance, claims to be the Mother Lode Casino the welcome sign mentioned, (though it doesn't look nearly as fancy as the casinos you passed by in Primm) and lastly the entirety of the Parking Lot. Scattered throughout the parking lot are dozens and dozens more of the shipping containers, all built into makeshift homes and businesses. Some stand up to three containers high, with wooden and metal stairways built spiraling up and around them. Other buildings are simply single containers lined up sideways along the walls or other, larger buildings, with sections of their sides cut out to form large booth-like shops, all filled with goods and merchants, shouting out to the townsfolk and travelers now presumably 'trapped' here. The shipping-container buildings make a rather neat grid, and the crowds are surprisingly thick, giving it a big-city feel despite its small size. You'd imagine there's probably more to this town, that may have been evacuated earlier - greatly augmenting the crowd's numbers. It's quite a stark contrast from the wasteland you'd been walking through just earlier today. Jean had mostly been evacuated due to the 'problems' with the Correctional Facility, so you haven't seen too many people since you left Primm.

Kathryn isn't really sure where to start, if she wanted to look for a place to make some money off of her skills as a Doctor, but she does spot a nearby bar built out of one of the shipping containers. A line of stools stands across the front side of it, and though most of them are taken, there are some tables set up nearby.

From atop a walkway between two of the taller buildings stands a relatively well dressed man with an old miner's hat on, the light shining down into the crowd. He seems to claim that maybe this roadblock was the work of destiny, and that this may be your lucky night down at the Mother Lode Casino. You aren't sure how much truth there may be to that.

It's quite dark outside of the town by now, You could probably still try to look around, but going out alone would likely be dangerous.

I was more thinking about looking around inside the town and at it's edge. Never move out of sight of the guards unless there is a reason to do so. If they ask, i will tell them that i am scouting.

It (Appears) that all of the guards are either here or at the checkpoint - So you probably couldn't do that without moving out of sight of the guards, unless you just mean this part of town. If so, there's no where of the sort. It's too crowded.

Max, Tokoko, and Harvey make their way over to the two 'real' buildings. Harvey continues onwards towards the warehouse as Max and Tokoko turn towards the Casino, which is a rather plain building, obviously completely re-purposed into what it is now. They walk through the open doors into large room. To their right are a few rows of slot machines, that like the building itself, seem to have been repurposed slot machines of various designs, repainted in new colours. To their left is the cashier, as well as another bar. Straight ahead it looks like there are some other games set up.

The crowd, like it was outside, is surprisingly thick.

You walk with Max and Tokoko until you reach the Casino, after which you continue on your own towards the Warehouse just past it.

All of the main doors look to be raised and open, though down a mostly empty side street, there's also set of normal, closed doors guarded by two men. You aren't entirely sure where to try first.

"Come on, are you sure? I'm not looking to bonesaw or squeeze anyone for caps. If I help people, I get paid. And they get helped. You sure you don't got a busted leg around here that needs setting? A bad cut needs stitching? Hell, I'm even trained in therapeutic backrubs, but those come extra." She said, tacking a joke on the end. Well, it was mostly a joke!

Action: Buy a drink and press him a bit more for information, or why there's no one in a mining town with a casual injury.

Supposed the NCR had reason to keep this place healthy, she thought. It was a lot of money coming from the mine. She'd been in some towns where they barely had a bottle of medicinal alcohol to spare, much less a clinic. Maybe this side of the country wasn't as bad as she thought.

Having not much to do otherwise, Elliot decided to try and find something to do to occupy himself for a bit and maybe even make some money. He saw a car move by with some things in it and moved back over to the trooper that stopped them earlier, "So you guys have cars here? Neat. Any of them need repairing? I've got some free time on my hands and I'm sure you've got something here that needs fixing up."

You make your way over to the warehouse. All of the big doors are raised and open, so you walk right in.

The interior is pretty well lit, and contains a variety of things. Near the entrance the pick-up truck that had passed you on the way in is parked, alongside an actual full-size truck. Both look like they're in working condition, though next to it - there's a second pickup truck that appears to have been very badly damaged.

Though it looks like a major part of the warehouse was used for storage, a great many crates and boxes have been moved aside along the walls to make room for a great many more bedrolls and bunks. There are a number of people sleeping there. You see one of the guards explaining to a small group of travelers about how the town wasn't meant to fit so many people, so if they can't find anywhere else to stay - they (And presumably you, or any other travelers) are free to stay here for the night at no charge.

You spot what you were looking for, a bit of a clinic set up in the far corner. You enter to find that it is indeed actually quite well stocked by the looks of it. And there are two doctors here.

"Can we help you?" One of them asks, looking you over. "I'm sorry, but if you're only looking for supplies, we don't have any for sale."

"Funny you ask that, you see - We've got these two little trucks, and... Well, there's a big truck too, but that's technically government property, it was sent in to us from McCarran. Anyways, this idiot managed to drive one of the pick-ups over a ridge at the quarry and wrecked the thing something fierce. The mechanics here said that they'd be lucky if they ever got it running again, but they sure have been trying. If you've got experience with that kind of work, they're probably over in the warehouse right now."

Elliot grins to the man, "Ah, just what I wanted to hear! I'll see what I can do for you, it can't be that bad!" Elliot moved to the warehouse where he would go inside and quickly see the badly damaged truck. He looked over it for awhile before he began getting to work on trying to fix it.

"Hey, who are you? You from McCarran? You ain't got the uniform. Leave that truck alone, we can't have people coming in here and fucking with it and trying to pry some scrap off of it."

As Elliot looked over the truck in slight disbelief that it actually had been broken pretty badly, a man suddenly came out from behind some boxes. Elliot jumped a bit as he wasn't expecting him before he responded, "Nah, I'm not here to pry some scrap off the thing. I'm stuck here for awhile and I know a thing or two about cars so a guard pointed me over in this direction and said I could try to fix the thing. Other than being horribly smashed, are there any other problems I should be aware of before I get started?"

Maxwell and Takoko walk up to the cashier.
Takoko exchanges 50 caps for chips, and Maxwell exchanges 100 of his caps for chips, before you both head off towards the tables in the back.
It's on Maxwell's way there that he notices one of his chips is kind of funny. It's pretty shiny, and it has some tiny writing on it, but he can't really make any of it out. There's a big number or something on it, so even despite its shiny, silver colour, it's pretty different from the rest of the chips.

He says, going on to explain what's happened, and as you'd expect just from looking at it, it's not looking good for the truck.

[Your guess is that you'd only have about a 40% chance of doing it any good, which you think would at least be more than your average mechanic could say, you having experience with vehicles. Even then though, it wouldn't be that much help in the grand scheme of the truck's repair.]

Take a look through the shops and booths, see what's being sold and where. Especially, try to find some bear traps and wire, a hammer and those looped nails wouldn't be amiss either. Also, see if there's an underbelly to this city, a black market.

You browse the various shops set up around the entrance. The ones of interest you find are a general goods store, a gunsmith's shop, an armourer's shop, and a shop that seems to have been set up by a prospector, selling lots of random odds and ends scavenged from the wasteland.

How would you go about looking for a black market?

There's some parts and scrap, as well as a whole load of random bits and bobbles that were scavenged off from somewhere. There are a couple of hammers, an old box of eye hooks ((I'm guessing that's the kind of thing you'd meant by the nails)), and even a bear trap in reasonable condition.

Look through to try and find anything that could be used to make explosives. I'm not going to say what in particular because my character would know, but I don't know what chemicals are needed to do so.

The Bear Trap comes up at a cost of 150 Caps.

You look around for possible components for explosives. It doesn't look there are really any materials that could be used to make the actual explosive part of an explosive. However, there are a few Sensor Modules (A key part of home-made Mines and the like) at 60 Caps each, a few Cherry Bombs at 12 Caps each, and an old lunchbox. Lunchboxes tend to be a favourite case for mines, specifically the infamous bottlecap mine. Though that's 20 Caps.

It takes you a while, but eventually you find a dark little corner untouched by the crowds where you can work in peace, using a Sensor Module, the Lunchbox, all five of the Cherry Bombs, and 20 Bottlecaps to make what is hopefully a functioning Bottlecap Mine.

There aren't many things the Armourer has just readily available for sale, most of the work they do is by order so it's all a proper fit. However, there are some Football and Motorcycle helmets, leather caps, gloves, and other such simple things that are on display and presumably for sale.

Max hands Harvey a shiny, silver casino chip. Max hadn't noticed it due to his great strength, and the chip's rather tiny size and insignificant weight - but it actually feels surprisingly heavy. It definitely isn't just a cheap plastic chip.
It's also completely unpainted, but it says:

Hmm... That's that one casino in Vegas, isn't it? Not only is it strange that it's ended up here, but it's also strange that they apparently have rather expensive looking, metal chips. Could it actually be silver or something?

Kat was looking at a offhand shield made from a stop-sign when she saw her compatriot enter the store.

"Hey Liz." She said, not bothered by the Ghoul's presence.

Action: Kat tries to get some armor reinforcement to her chest and leg areas, perhaps modifying her existing armor. An armor cap that could fit under her hat would be also be good.

Information wise, I treated some fellas at the clinic who were all shot up from an attack by the convicts, who also stole a bunch of dynamite. Sure looked like bullet wounds to me. Means they're well armed and numerous-maybe too much for our little group alone."

Unfortunately, it's likely going to cost more than 200 caps to get something from the armourer, as well as time. He does have a couple of pairs of suitable Rubber Boots though, priced at 120 Caps a pair, which going off of your memory, is a pretty decent deal.

There is the Gunsmith, who has plenty of weapons for sale - including some not-gun weapons.
You could get a normal [Knife] for 65 Caps.
There is a proper type of [Combat Knife], but they're rather nice, and priced at 495 Caps.

There appear to be no abandoned buildings in this part of town, but it's too crowded, so even taking travelers into account - there must be more to this town somewhere that may have been evacuated, but you aren't sure where it would be other than perhaps closer to the Quarry.

Even after a good bit of looking around town, you're unable to find any sign of there being sewers.

The group, minus Harvey, gathers back near the entrance of Sloan. The crowds have died down a tiny bit by now, but the streets are still pretty noisy.
It looks like all of the places to stay for the night are already filled, so there are a great many people wandering around who aren't really sure what to do.

((OOC: As a note, Frag's a dick, and he's a dick to everyone. As such, the last time he took watch, he stole everyone's stuff/money and had to be caught by Maxwell. Only reason they kept him around is A. He was the only one who knew how to disarm the bomb he'd placed in the middle of camp to try and prevent them from following him(they just said fuck it and went after him anyway), and B. he's the only one who can deal with traps, bombs, and overly fortified places in the group, really. One corner of the warehouse has been cleared out and filled with bedrolls and bunks - there are a number of people already here, along with a few guards standing around - but there's also still plenty of room. The group sets up in their own little corner.

Inside Kathryn's head percolates an increasingly odd dream. Perhaps it's the hunger...or a smidgen of radioactive dust, the sort that still floats around from time to time...or maybe even it has something to do with the patchouli fumes from a nearby campsite.

In any occurrence, she dreams deep.

In Kat's dreams, she is often small-and the world is made of Giants. Equal parts fear and feelings of inadequacy. She finds herself sitting on a field of green tonight, like grass, but not as soft. There is a great ringing and clamor in the air-cries of ecstasy and horror intermixed. Lives won, and lives lost.

It is to her mild consternation, she realizes she is on some sort of gambling table-players, whose faces are shrouded, are taking turns tossing a ball onto a spinning wheel. She knows the usual colors are red/black, but this wheel is ~all black~. Bad luck no matter how you roll. They seem to betting precious, little things. Here goes a baby carriage with a wheel missing. A necklace from a brother, with a bent clasp. A beautifully designed laser pistol, in the simulacrum of a ancient revolver, golden rivets and silver inlay-but, the barrel is plugged with dull lead. There goes a blue china plate with a hairline crack in the center. A strung out, tatted dog collar with the name 'Blue' on it. And a pretty mechanical bird, with wings of silver and silicon, one that no longer sings and no longer flies.

Correction. Precious, broken things. And she is one of them.

Giving in to curiosity, she looks up and sees Harvey Ramos, of course. He's smiling, but not at her-someone in the distance. She feels a moment of bitterness at that, but it passes quickly, like rain in the desert. He's never owned anything he wasn't willing to gamble, Kat thinks in semi-coherent dream philosophy. His giant hand descends like a mountain, pushing her onto the betting table proper with careless effort. He smiles as he tosses his ball, the grin of a winner, one who never loses, a man who will live forever.

The Wheel spins and spins, but Kat knows how it ends. The Black. Always the Black.

Then he's gone, and there's another man, or perhaps it's God. He does not smile. He merely speaks...The House Always Wins...and she believes him, because where she's going next is somewhere up above...perhaps, she thinks, her mother will be there. Or maybe nothing. She think she'll find the place he keeps his broken, little things. And there is where Kat will stay-until the dust of centuries, has erased her memory.

Her dreams ferment and twist all night, but she does not wake. The group awakens to sunlight pouring in through the warehouse doors. It looks like after you'd fallen asleep, many of the other beds had been taken - and the room is filled with sleeping travelers and townsfolk. Kat yawns, packing up her things. She sees the Ghoul Woman and nods.

Kat herself knew many people didn't like Ghouls-and assumed the feeling was often mutual-but, she had made up her mind long ago on the subject, when she was doing some desperate surgery on one of her teammates that had stepped on a landmine. The poor fellow was still mostly Human on the inside, aside from some intense necrofication of the joints-she had seen, and felt through his innards, trying to futilely remove shrapnel with a pair of rusted tongs-careful, because Ghouls blood tended to be slightly radioactive, and you needed to be careful or have a dose of rad on you to clean up. One doesn't get any more personal than that.

She still hadn't been able to save him...but, he had died like a Human too. With some degree of dignity, and remorse. Since that time, her feelings tended to sympathy rather than fear, though it was not easy for her to so all the time.

If medical work did anything for a person, it tended to incline them to empathy. A sorely lacking emotion, in these times.

"Morning, Liz. Did you sleep well?" She asked conversationally.

Frag yawns widely as he gets up, stretching. Little popping sounds can be heard from the metal pieces giving a little in each of their sockets, before settling back into place. He next twists from sounds to side, and a second round of popping and some hissing this time as the air bubbles released.
"That's better." The ghoul stands up, then looks through his backpack for a shirt. He pulls of his current one, then throws on an old one with an illegible slogan; it's slightly less dusty and dirty than the others. Then he stuffs the other one back in the pack, carefully puts on his fedora, and rummages through the bag's pockets for his caps and grenades. After checking to make sure everything was in it's place, he starts going through camp, looking for electronics, traps, dropped caps, and basically anything else of use or danger. Preferably both.
Frag did this every morning, even though he almost always knew the camp would be clean. This was because he didn't sleep. Ghouls didn't need it. It could be enjoyable, if you were into that much relaxation, but the bastard was too paranoid to care for that. It'd saved his life a few times, as had this sweep. And afterwards, he'd check out the bar, see how the local brew would do in a slightly-more-literal iron stomach. After that?... Eh, he might see if there was any work in town. Harvey usually took care of that, but Frag knew he'd get restless if he didn't do something. When he got restless, people died. The last time he'd gotten too bored, he'd been cooped up in jail for a full day after a bar brawl Maxwell managed to start. Needless to say, they didn't catch the mutant, but Frag was a bit easier. After he'd gotten out, he'd set claymores around the police building and a packet of grenades in the sheriff's car. He managed to avoid uprooting one of the mines after the others found out. They left soon after, so he still didn't know whether or not anyone had set it off.

The group heads out into the streets, which are emptier than they'd been last night.
It's a short walk to the market near the entrance, where you find a decent enough looking place to eat near the little bar.

The group notices that there are now some NCR Troopers hanging around on the walls beside the entrance in addition to the town guard. It looks like they may even have a big machine gun or something set up up there.

A lot of people seem to be talking about the blockade, even now. It sounds like there are some people claiming they saw Deathclaws over in the direction of the Quarry earlier this morning.
Many are too worried to travel back towards Jean due to the escaped convicts running around the currently unguarded road.

Before heading out with the rest of the group she checks her equipment in a routinely fashion and looks for ways to improve it making notes of what parts she would need to upgrade them. At the same time she exchanges her old shoes for the rubber boots and hides the knife in the rubber boots.

Frag didn't tend to eat. He liked to drink certainly, and good food wasn't something he'd pass up, but Ghouls were basically smarter zombies who happened to glow. They didn't need much. But he hung around for a bit, then goes and tries to get a good luck at the stuff on the wall, without being too conspicuous.

Most of the group sits down to eat a breakfast. Kathryn is lucky enough to get some of the last eggs. Her meal isn't the cheapest, but it's still only 13 Caps and easily worth it after living off of those rations for so long, which are pretty bad - even by wasteland standards.
Maxwell, being a big guy, does have to spend a little more on food to get his fill.


Frag hangs around and tries to get a look at the stuff going on up on the wall.
It looks like most of the defenses that were at the freeway checkpoint have been pushed back to the town itself. There are markedly more guards, and they have a machine gun set up facing the direction between the road and the quarry. Upon closer inspection, it looks like there are two guys with Sniper Rifles and they've also got an old BigBazooka up there too. It's too bad there's probably no way you could get up there and run off with that...

Action: Alright, we got a plan.

The group heads out and looks for a more or less secluded spot outside of town-we're looking an ambush spot that affords hiding places and good cover to a defender, such as a box canyon or rock formation. Presumably some place high. The party assembles in hiding spots and sniper positions around where Kat and maybe Takoko as well will make a 'camp', which gives every impression she or they are resting there. Then we work the smoke trick, and see if anyone shows up...

Also, Kathryn puts on her helmet and goggles before she goes.

He then heads for a position on a hill overlooking the chosen camping spot and changes into his blue outfit before covering his clothes and all exposed skin in dirt and digging himself a hole in the side of the hill with his hands and sliding into it and beginning to scan the area through his scope.

Pick a position with a good sight line thats elevated and between 10-25 meters away then conceal myself. Leave my pack in the camp and carry one ration and one bottle with me.

(( 25 meters is a good range with my scope right? ))

Liz sits about 20 meters away from the fire, her back towards a rocky outcropping that prevents her from being seen from behind.
after carefully checking her weapon she sits there with crossed legs, her weapon resting over their fold. She remembers learning how to shoot with her father. "Be completely calm. Breath out before you take a shot and hold your breath to slow your heartbeat. Hold the weapon with both hands and keep both eyes open while aiming."

Frag is quite happy. He didn't manage to get the BigBazooka, as much as he would have loved to, but he did get to lay some traps. Rock traps, mostly, since he didn't want to waste his precious mines or grenades. But they'd block off escape routes, fall on some guys. It'd be fun to watch, especially once he could simply shoot grenades into them and watch them smear over the canyon.

Okay, so there are a couple of things that need to be cleared up and/or recapped here:

Just to recap, Harvey has spent/gifted a total of 165 Caps.

Also you guys did get a little carried away now, there isn't exactly a super-convenient spot like this just waiting around out there for you guys to set up an ambush :P - so we'll go through actual ones until you guys find one that suits your needs and can set up more exact positions.

The group ventures out of town and down the road to the South, (I'm assuming that's where you guys went and not North, or straight west.)
Eventually you come across an interesting enough looking location about half an hour's walk away from Sloan.

There's a section of a hill that the railroad leading up to Vegas cuts through a bit, and also a small bridge with an underpass a little bit to the South.
(The striped lines representing rough Elevation, the highest point (West of the Railroad) being only about 13 or so Meters higher than the lowest.)
It's a little rockier around here than most of the desert out here, which is otherwise mostly just dusty hills. The freeway is still within sight to the East, as would be Sloan (To the North) provided you were high up enough, or simply closer to the Freeway.

Hmmm.. Some rock traps which Max would hopefully help me set up along the road on the east; some rubble and scree blocking the way out south from that direction(designed to slide and prevent you from making progress; at least not while hurried...), as well as small rockslides set up to bowl over people. I'll save the bottlecap mine for now, I think, but I'd like to be hiding around that south-eastern slope, since I have good sneak skill and I can wait 'til the fire-fight has started to aim carefully and blow the shit out of people. This assumes we think they're coming from the east, of course.

The Convicts came from Jean, and Black Mountain is known to be home to Super Mutants.
They also attacked Sloan's Quarry, presumably from the West.

You probably would be able to set up some sort of trap to send some rocks down on the road coming from the East, but there isn't enough rubble near to the South (Or likely enough time) to clutter up that area.

You could trap the tunnel, that'd be to my satisfaction-they'll either get a facefull if they try to come that way, or if they try to use it for cover during the fight. Sort of a longshot.

Most of this battle will be guns tho, you might wanna save your trap materials when they'll be more useful.

You aren't going to be able to get the tunnel to collapse without explosives, and even then - you guys would know this railroad is actively in use by the NCR.

Traps might give the game away. Are you sure about setting up any? If they run in to a trap early, they may a) Leave entirely for the day to take their dead/wounded back to base or b) just shoot us decoys because they're angry now. We're trying to lure them out so they can be gunned down easy. Traps might compromise that.
Just something to think about.

I'm wanting to set traps that go off to prevent escape, and ones I can trigger once the fight's started/about to start.

So instead, for the tunnel, I'll have some grenades I cna manually set off from a distance. Good perception, after all. Most of my traps, I kinda want to be manual. That's the point of the eye hooks, and someone has to have wire or some shit.

I'd say Takoko probably has a little bit of wire in with her Scrap Metal. (In Game terms, she can 'spend' her Scrap Metal to give you some wire, how much depending on how much she's willing to give up.)

And Grenades as in your Dynamite, right? They'd be a bit trickier to set off manually from afar with just what you have. Maybe a Scrap Metal could be spent to make that more easily possible, But Takoko's 3 Scrap Metal - 1 for rigging the dynamite and 2 for wire, you'd probably still have to be pretty close to set them off. Well out of the area of the blast though.

The area is really too open to set up anything that would prevent escape, only hinder it by a tiny bit. Probably not worth that much time.

They could run anywhere from the clearing but to the North up the steep slope with all of the rocks though. (And that's where everyone is hiding anyways.)

And the 40mm Grenades are for your pistol. I mean, you could probably rig them to explode too, but the Dynamite would be more effective. (And the dynamite sticks aren't used as ammunition for any of your weapons. :P)

He's got a Grenade Pistol. A sort of big flare gun, heavily modified so that it makes use of 40mm grenades instead of flares.
(And it was indeed in one of the Fallout games, might have been Tactics, can't remember off the top of my head.)
