Newt vs the Nintendos
He's right though. They are eroding traditional values. And it's about friggin time too. Someone has to erode them; This has been a long time coming.
That's a nonsensical claim. How do video games "erode traditional values"? Is it the same as television? Rock music? Radio? Books? Video games are a form of media, just like every other form of media. People ignore traditional values because they're sick of them. This is helped along by media - all forms thereof - but they are absolutely dependent on how people use them.

They help spread new ideas, and with them the realization that there's other things in the world and, more importantly, the realization of just how stupid the old ideas were. They also give people a reason to like science and technology rather than fear them and they give people something to do other than being judgemental and petty all the time; the worst cyberbullies in the world can't hold a candle to organizations like Westboro Baptist Church and their counterparts in other faiths.

I'm pretty sure I agree with you, but semantics.

So...

I've been on the TVTropes forums for a while, but I only recently branched out outside of a single forum game and started posting in some of the more casual games.  And somehow some people are under the impression I'm a female Aussie...

Thing that made me laugh: The Bay12 Courtroom.  Seriously.  I snickered for a good half-minute.

Why, thank you. I'm glad to know my horrific hodgepodge of references, cameos, and in-jokes packaged under the guise of an Ace Attorney forum game has succeeded at its mission.

You didn't miss it.

Was playing an amusing flash game and discovered a Half Life: Full Life Consequences reference toward the end. Much laughter was had.

Speaking of flash games, I played Corruption of Champions. Holy crap. That game. I don't think there's anything in there that isn't hilariously absurd porn.

Well, there's also an absolute crapton of references. And perhaps select bits of Tel'Adre are not hilariously absurd porn, like the blacksmith and the pawn shop dude.

Just watched Reefer Madness.

The joints in the movie are an obvious metaphor for the film itself; first you laugh psychotically, then you want to kill somebody over it (namely, the producers of the film.)

The thing about those era's films like that is, they are basically exploitation films, but they disguise them with a "moral" message. There was one two years later (1938) called "child bride" about the moral dangers of banging underage girls. Educational, moral was how it was promoted :/

And the poster is fucking hilarious too for an educational film:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Warning: it has a nude scene in it which would probably be illegal today. It was also the most popular explotation film of the era, funny that (so much for better public morals in the old days).
