bleh, decided to shut it down for good, i can see why people who run the servers like himachi, but alas...its probably more trouble then its worth to try to keep it running between the bandwidth use and the fact i cant use my computer to play other games effectively while the server client is running.

I'm just going to point out that if nobody posts unless they have a server, this thread will drop out of sight very rapidly.

I have hosted a server, and I'd post the IP here, except I have no plans of opening it up until there's a new content update, because I've already done everything there is to do  :-\

Home :: Medium :: Personal Homebase.

Map Discription
PvP:: PvP is a place where I hope we can host some PvP action, atm anyone can come in with any character but in saying so we need to work out what kind of style of PvP it is first. So at the moment we are running through Jungles and Dungeons collecting weapons and tools that could be of use. And later tearing down a few dungeons for their resources...
Freedom:: Freedom is just an open world where people can just do what ever the fuck the want, it will be up nearly every second day and I myself may or may not be on there myself.
Home:: Home is a Home World for my Character, it is used mainly for storage and for a good looking place to come back to. It is still a Fresh World so nearly everything is still lootable. I am not limiting folk who come in and help to anything, you can help on the Fort, loot the world or even just go around and do nothing. Anything you find that ISN'T inside HOME area, is free to take. Home Area is that which is around the initial spawn and inside the Fort (When constructed)

I will be leaving this server up pretty much 24/7. I do request that you not bring your super powered characters with god-tier equipment in, and instead start fresh. The server has been up for several hours now and some construction has been done, come help us build something fun.

I can't respond to this without sounding like an asshole.  Can't.  I tried.
If you're not in a position of knowing that information, you're not a network administrator; in which case the choice to allow connections to your system from anywhere in the web is not really yours to make.
If you are the most network-competent in your household, and you don't know those details, you've got bigger problems.

Used it in the past (on a different computer). Don't particularly like it. For one, it adds another network interface and tends to break programs that are too dumb to listen on all of them instead of just one (boggles the mind, that does, when it's easier to listen to all interfaces than to a specific one). For two, [complaints that may or may not be outdated about the maximum number of users in a network filling up, and then having to start a new network, which ends up with connectivity issues, etc]. For three, because people can't figure out port forwarding? Well, technically, not entirely, some people use it for (a) older games that no longer support internet multiplayer, or (b) because they've pirated something and it won't actually LET them play internet multiplayer, and Hamachi lets them get around that by playing a LAN game through Hamachi instead, which many games allow (which is probably why Blizzard didn't support LAN games in Starcraft II). But I'm not in either of those categories.

I haven't played anything multiplayer that lacked internet multiplayer in a long time now, and port forwarding isn't a good enough reason for me to install it on this computer.

I agree completely. Too bad my ISP disagrees... Seriously, I should NOT need to call in a technician to get a look at my own router's settings. That thing isn't there for their benefit!

My server will be up 24/7 pretty much. I've found that if I don't reset it at least once a day it will start getting glitchy so I've been doing that. If you want the info, PM me. I do use Hamachi because people were unable to connect directly despite that I had forwarded the ports correctly.

Oh and I apologize if I had to kick you out of the hamachi network, when it gets full others can't join to play so I generally kick anyone not currently online.

Trust me. If it was only a Firewall problem, I'd be hosting my own server as we speak. I have tried literally everything: Port Forwarding, firewall settings, following guides on how to start a server, turning off the firewall altogether, turning off Norton 360, all at once. It's an exersise in stupidity, and the fact that nothing seems to work is starting to wear on my nerves.

I did manage to learn the username and password to access my (Sky) router, though.

Well as it stands there is no banning function for this game so thanks to douchbags using dynamite, this server will remain private until further notice, as assholes decided to join and blow up 3 hours of work, and then say me and my friends, and others on the server have no life for actually playing the game. they bought the game and were going around griefing servers for fun. really, I HAVE NO LIFE? so until a banning system is added.

If you use Hamachi, you can ban people by just kicking them off your network.

I really hope they sort out the server stability issues I'm seeing. If I don't restart mine at least once every 24 hours, sometimes every 12, it becomes unstable and people start warping around or getting disconnected.

Well, I can host a Terraria server too, I have been for a while and had a lot of people coming in from the Terraria IRC. I've had to change the password a few times because of griefers or just people being rude, and me and my friend like to keep it user friendly. We've been having people join our teamspeak server, for the password. We talk on voice while playing games like Terraria, Minecraft, League of Legends, and some other games. But yeah if anyone wants to join, let me know. =]

For some reason the game seems to become highly unstable as time goes on for me, where a few hours after a restart people cannot even connect or can't stay connected. I'm not sure why, I can only assume it's something introduced with the last patch as it worked perfectly fine before then.

For now I am shutting the server down. Will bring it back up next patch to see if it's a bit more stable.

It's unstable when I host large worlds, but I always host medium worlds. Another annoying thing is after the server's been up a long time, time starts passing at superspeed and all the NPC's like flash around. Lol.

Although actually I found out about Terraria through Bay12, rather than Bay12 through Terraria.

Okay, so like 10 people have came and played with me and other people on my Terraria server so far. Hope you guys enjoyed. =] I had someone griefing so I made a new world again, one where you will NOT immediately plummet to your doom upon entering the world. I apologize for that. My server is almost always up. The address is: 173.81.44.75.  I will not give the password out on here to lessen the chance of griefing, all you have to do is come onto my gaming teamspeak server, and the password and address are both in the Terraria channel description, in case I am not awake to ask for the password. (Some Australians have been on and found me asleep.)

Dwarf fortress is a funny little game, with primitive graphics but still manages to drag your FPS into the dirt.
It's a game which you guide a handful of insane drunk Dwarves into building the grandest fort the world have ever seen, or die trying.
It's a game where losing is fun, and the entire process is hilarious.

As for not being an escaped lunatic?
Be more active on this forums is all the advice I can give you.

Also.. Welcome to the forums.
And don't mind those who slaughter kitties for their hides and drowns elves in lava/magma,
it's just one of the side-effects of playing Dwarf Fortress.

I'd recommend a graphics pack unless you want to use the ASCII. Ironhand's and Mayday's are both quite good.
Also, the wiki is useful.

On topic, should we start a list of active servers in here yet?

Further on topic, should be have a link to the terraria forum for servers, so that the terraria fans have a more heavily supported forum to find servers on? Not that I don't want them here, always nice to see a new lunatic that isn't a spambot, and even more so when we can convince them to give DF a try, but somehow we have a large amount of traffic (Lurkers and such) for the few servers we have up, so a link to the terraria forums might help support this capacity.

Just throwing it out there, comments?

Step 1: Close DF, get a graphics pack. Or The Lazy Newb Pack, which has a lot of stuffs.
Step 2: Read Tutorials on magmawiki or watch CapnDuck's tutorials for DF .31. The former is probably more updated, but the latter is easier to understand, I'd say.

The maddness begins! We used to have a great introduction guide, back for the 40d version, but I don't think it is nearly as relevant. Reguardless, trial and error is a big part of this game. I know right now it just looks like alphabet soup, but if you give it time, you learn to read the game. Protip: The k key is your best friend.

It got a.. vertical learning curve at best, but once you get the basics, you are past the worst part.

Well, would any of you guys wanna play on my server? ^^ No Hamachi required. I just ask that people come onto the teamspeak to get the password so I can know who has it and when someone is going on the terraria server, and be able to change the password if necessary. Plus me and my friends all talk on mic while we play, so it's more fun. =P

The analogy is that you just told us which room in your house you live in, but not where your house is.  Helps us not.
That is your computer's IP on your local network.
You can connect to it because you're on your local network.
We need your external IP.

So KineseN. If your not sure how to forward a port here's how.

First, go to the start menu and hit RUN, then in the box type cmd. This will bring up command prompt. In the command prompt window type ipconfig, a list of ip addresses will come up. The address beside "default gateway" is the one you'll need to log into your modem and forward a port. Once you've found your default IP, copy/paste it into your internet browser window. Your modem likely has a default username and password, you may have to look this up on google. Once in, you can search around in your options to find port forwarding. I use a Telus modem and my port forwarding is under ADVANCED SETTINGS - INTERNET - ADDRESS TRANSLATION - PORT FORWARDING. I BELIEVE you'll want to open the port with the UDP setting, but it may be TCP.

edit: On the off chance your a telus client, my default username is Admin, and password is Telus

I shut my server down last patch due to constant instability and the fact that people couldn't log in after a few hours. It seems like this was caused by the frame skip option. Anyway with 1.0.3 I've tested it and after 72 hours the server seems stable so I'll be opening a new world up for new characters if anyone is interested. I'd like to get some people together for a megaproject or some community building project where we raid other worlds for material and just cover the entire hub world with cool stuff.

hi all ive started up a pvp server on a new world.  only basic bases but your free to expand on them.  no specific pvp mode currently but that may change depending on what most people want.  the server will most likely be up whenever im awake which is around 11:00 am to 2:00 am.  only general rule i have is that no dynimite is allowed.  grenades bombs and stickys are however.  please no griefers or i will completly ban your ip.  i would like to keep this world pvp only but i may make a non pvp world that will require a pass as a protection agesnt griefers.  i may not always be there since i tend to be on my xbox or another comp game like league but the server will be up regardless.

Why is every server on this page by an escaped lunatic?
This used to be a community for players of BAY12 games, not an advertising agency and a place for all those randomers.

Because nobody on bay12 is running servers any more I guess.

Last time I advertised mine it got spammed and trolled constantly so I shut it down.

My Terraria server is up and running again. I don't use Hamachi, but I do administrate my Terraria server using T-Shock.

But to gain access to my Terraria Server you need access to my clan teamspeak. I make it that way so that I can further monitor who is coming in and out. (My server has been griefed countless times.)

It's a gaming clan called The Fierce Force and we have people in the clan who play Dwarf Fortress as well as Minecraft and some other games like League of Legends.

The terraria server IP address is listed in the teamspeak in the info for the terraria channel. =] This is also a fun way to meet new people to talk to and play with. ^^
