Rawr, I am currently playing DF, it's open in a window right next ot Firefox...
...Right next to this obcenely expensive compute I am currently using to play DF is a perfectly good, un-opened copy of Bioshock 2...
...Does DF have some code in it that turns my PC into a crack lab, and then distribute the crack via my fan?
I keep telling myself, "Ok, I'll finish this season, then play Bioshock..." and it just goes on and on. EVIL!
IT. IS. EVIL.

Huh? You're bieng semi-coherent here. Just what is the complaint.
Edit: Oh, you're making a joke post relating to the addictiveness.... nm.
-
There is nothing amazing in Bioshock2. Good game, but I played it twice (got both endings (save all, harvest all)) and that was that.
DF? There is never anything the same. And want to know the best part? In a few short [units of time] we will have DF2010 which is going to CHANGE THE GAME ALL OVER AGAIN.
We all get to learn ALL new things. The game that was never the same, will forever be even LESS the same once DF2010 is released.

These are symptoms of choosing between a game as deep as a puddle versus a game that emulates geographic features accurately and attempts to simulate realistic hydrodynamics. While they don't exactly mirror real life, everything deep about DF is both fun and fun.
See a doctor if you experience more unwieldly symptoms such as this.

Dwarf Fortress is evil?
No shit.
-
I'd post a perfect rebuttal to any claims that DF is evil but I am too busy harvesting the bones of merman infants.

The circle of life...
@topic: I STILL can't start a new fort with the new DF version just looming behind the next hill.
So it's not as evil as usual I guess.

But that becomes the anvil paradox. Who was the first one to vomit, and why?

Third party vomiter.
Nauseated by the sun.
-
Everyone knows the first anvil in every world is generated by Armok (you/me) when we create our 7 founding dwarves.
-
DF is most certainly the most evil game yet created. It strikes me as hilarious that you'd play DF over Bioshock 2. But I understand why you are. I recently bought Borderlands and played a bit of it, then found DF and since then I haven't touched my Xbox 360. It serves as a testament to the godliness of DF.
-
You know, the first anvil was probably created via possession. Which is to say, Armok thrust the idea forcibly into a dorf's head, who then made it. It likely menaced with spikes of silk and unicorn bones or something mindboggling like that, and was made of highly improbable material. Like frozen water blocks.
You know Armok and his sense of humor.
As to DF's evil... Yeah. I agree. I play it more than any other game, and I've not let DF2010 from letting me make new forts. After all, I can just get more dwarves killed in this next incarnation. :D

We have always been at war with OceaniaElfland.
We're even going to pull the switcheroo at some point when elves are updated, and we will always have been at war with Elfland the Ant People. Because Elves will be useful and good at some point.

A little off topic. But Bioshock officially have 3 endings (each have 2 variations, one contains 2 separate choices for two different ending, for a total of 8 combination of endings). Try harvest some and save some.
P.S. Whether you killed Grace or not governs the variations. Killing the rest does not appear to change anything.
-
Lol. I must be one of the lucky ones, Managed to beat Dante's Inferno (all while thinking "I should be playing DF" every time I killed a baby) before literally LUNGING at my computer to play DF.
-
Evil is good.
Evil feels good
-
Dwarf Fortress: Losing is fun, Evil is good, and the first hit is free... Actually, all the hits are free... Dang, no wonder it's so addicting.
-
I have no idea about EVIL, but I can't wait to play the next version. All the daily DEV logs are making me quite giddy.

That is technically 7 more endings that DF has....
-
I'd rather watch some DF Let's Play, than actualy play any new commertial game. Recently I tried new Alien vs. Predator, and... well, I torn off some marines head while playing a predator. Third Marine died exactly the same way as the first! I've just instantly deleted the game (14GB of useless data) and jumped right back to Elf vs Magma :D

Armok is watching!

Why yes I am! ;)

DF has only one ending:
Losing :P
It's Fun.

Which just goes to show that one ending is enough and other games are just wasting our time with there multiple ending shenanigans.

This. This is genius.

Not to be a smartass but one of the reasons I like DF is because when it ends, it's in a diffrent way.
"Hmm...was that bauxite or what...?"
"Nope..it wasn't bauxite"
-Everything dies to very slow moving magma.-
Etc...it's one of the things I like about the game.
Event driven games < Dwarf Fortress
-
When you quote, don't remove the person that actually said it :)
But yes DF have different ways of getting to the same end of Fun.

Yeah, it messed up...I didn't know who made the quote so i just removed one of the names (Couldn't be stuffed fixing :P) It's late here.

That is technically 7 more endings that DF has....
Death by magma
Death by goblin invasion
Death by goblin ambush
Death by human invasion
Death by drowning
Death by wildlife
Death by skeletal wildlife
Death by zombies
Death by fish
Death by tantrum spiral
Death from old age/no migrants
Death from berserk champion
Death from mass cave-in
Death by hidden Fun(3 versions)
And the more embarrassing
Death by elf invasion
Death by kobold raid
Don't say DF has just one ending, just because they all mean the game is over it doesn't mean it's the same ending..And even then it's not the true end, you can start a new fort..Even reclaim your old fort,
DF doesn't need a sequel, DF is it's own sequel.

DF doesn't need a sequel, DF is it's own sequel.
I think you missed my point

I think you missed his maybeeee.
I thought he didn't mean it like that, more a "It's a never-ending story." if you want it to be.

-is confuzzled-
I was allso going to say that I may have confused what you said, but i'm to tired at this moment.
Well..this is a pointless argument..
You can end DF, but every-time is most likely going to be a different way...it's not scripted...where as Bioshock 2 is. Argh now I've forgotten the original point and everything. Time to sleep...
-
When I turn on the computer in the morning, DF turns on. It dosn't turn off until 2PM at night. DF is the bane of my life, like cocaine for a drug-addict. Except, much more deadly.
Plus, I just noticed I'm viewer 1337. . .that has got to be an omen.
-
Just to clarify, I mean that a game/world of DF can last as long as you want it to if you want, and fort 2 can be the sequel to fort 1. Just like Silent hill 1 is one story(fort), Silent hill 2 was another story(Second fort after the first ended), and then Silent hill 3 continued with the original story(Reclaimed fort 1)
So, yeah, I admit it was also late at night when I wrote that, so I might not have made/make a lot of sense.
DF forums are addicting too, making me post past midnight.

sigg'd for great justice
Edit: or not, stupid line span limit ;-;

Yeah, I haven't played other games much since I found Dwarf Fortress a few weeks ago. I've still got my unfinished save of Dragon Age, which is currently in the Dwarf Fortress.

DF eats up most of my time. It's nearly as bad as the Sims was for me about devouring time. I still play other games, when I'm frustrated with DF because my fortress exploded into an orgy of violence and death, with a sprinkling of fire and magma, but I always come back. It's almost like an abusive boyfriend sort of thing, except he's only violent when he drinks, and he only drinks when he's angry.... I lost my point somewhere in there....

I like that, as a DF-themed version of the chicken and egg.
edit: oh dear, terrible necro, sorry

Impressive. 13 year necro.
