I specifically love to embark in savage Moist Tropical Forests with the goal of capturing/breeding the wildlife there.

But on to the serious stuff: Rivers and sheer cliffs are the easiest manner to funnel wildlife for caging, but they are rare. I find it simpler to just level all ramps connecting two z-levels, except for a small passage where you will eventually build your cage corridor. For the safety of the dwarves recovering cages, wall around your corridor, roof over it, place drawbridges at both ends and make the sealed corridor accessible from below. You can even make a double corridor with separate drawbridges to avoid wasting your traps on boring animals.

Traps are reusable, and you can just pit them somewhere if you dont like them.
Such as in a naked-gobbo arena.

I agree, but sometimes it's better to just let them be. If you have a breeding pair of tame hoary marmots, there's no reason to capture even more.
