Title: Livestock organizing
Post by: Ironfang on March 08, 2017, 07:14:31 am
My current fort has been going for 10 years now, and I have gotten a nice meat industry going. By selectively breeding my dogs, I'v been able to keep a good stock of high quality animals.

I have had an issue however. While I can separate the strong from the bone and leather sources, I have had issues with separating the fat dogs from the muscular dogs. Given my long term purposes for my dogs, I want to get the fat ones separate from the ones standing guard.

I have managed to get a few dogs into a fat pen, but I don't know how to deal with the ones in the main pen.

Any ideas of how to efficiently separate the fat from the strong?

If you're using DFHack you can name your dogs (such as "Dog 1, 2, 3,4; or Dog 1,2,3,4, Bitch 1,2,3,4 if you have a need to separate on gender as well), then look at them with Dwarf Therapist (or, I guess, vanilla), to identify that Bitch 1 is actually fat, rename her to Fat Bitch 1, refresh DT, repeat...). Once sorted, you can then see their names and assign them to the appropriate pens.

If I was using pure vanilla I'd probably assign all the unspecified ones to a temporary pen, remove one from that pen, look at the stats, and then assign the only unpastured dog to the appropriate pen, and then repeat the process until all dogs have been sorted.

You don't have to say fat, you can call them...

But then PatrikLundell would have to say "Husky female soap sources", which isn't nearly so fun to say :-)
