Title: Has Dwarf Fortress made you look more like a Dwarf?
Post by: Buttery_Mess on January 20, 2011, 05:21:53 pm
I know it's made me look more like a dwarf. I've managed to put on both flab and muscle, become at least 900% beardier, plus longer hair (and balding). I'm looking more rugged and generally haggard every day.

Has Dwarf Fortress made you change any other aspect of your life? I used to draw all sorts of things. Now I draw almost exclusively dwarfs. I'm starting to arrange things into neat squares. I've generally become more organised and interested in crafts. I'm looking forward to buying a house with a garden, so that I can build an underground bunker. I'm also eager to set up a workshop and build real swords and armour. I'm thinking about buying, or making, leather clothes, and growing my own food in my back garden.

It has motivated me to do more work on finishing the basement.

I like to grow my beard to a respectable length before cutting it. I started playing DF at around the same time so I'm not certain they are related, it does, however, make me laugh, having a beard, as a DF player.

Tall, thin, nothing resembling a beard... Eh, later maybe.

I shave and bathe more rarely if that counts. I don't seem to vomit more often tough. I also drink mostly water, and avoid alcohol. I think, I don't have enourg nice socks.

I am rather partial to wandering around wearing nothing except nine capes, but I'm not sure if this began before or after I discovered DF.

im going more bald....and im only 21 (about ¼ the way there)...and I really want to make a garden (shaped and tended like i do it in DF)...but that's for many reasons....but I live in an apartment...moving to another in a month...will most likely try and dedicate a room or part of one to an indoor garden because we are getting rid of a room mate.

I don't look good with a beard so I do shave but dwarf fortress has changed my opinion about fantasy worlds. I used to love elves.

I began playing in early November of 2008.

I now have a beard and seem much better at improvising elaborate contraptions to deal with minor problems.

EDIT: I used to love elves as well. Now they're more fuel for the fire.

I live in my basement, and with the recent inclusion of a minifridge and microwave, I can survive for quite a while in the event of a siege.

Still tall, still skinny, but I have sideburns, a beard, and a mustache at the age of 15.  I think insanely early facial hair is pretty dwarven.

Nope. Hasn't changed me a bit.

I don't think so. I wear a beard more these days, but I don't think that's related to DF so much as to my beard tending to be fuller as I age a bit more, and thus looking better. In general, I'd say my perfection has remained unchanged.

It immerses me and makes me forget to shave my neckbeard..

Really? I've always disliked elves, never been REALLY partial to dwarves before DF, but I've always disliked elves, too arrogant for my tastes, and their almost always goody goody.
Other than likeing dwarves more it hasn't changed me.

Nope, at the age of 19 I have a slighty girly voice and I am incapable of growing a real beard. No more dwarfish then when I started, sorry.

My parents gave me ten socks for Christmas, and I was genuinely happy to get them.

I still have a high-pitched voice (for a bloke, anyway, and I'm 25). Still haven't tried growing a beard. Weight and height pretty much unchanged. Still don't like drinking.

Have got more interested in contraptions though.

I'm starting to look more and more like my avatar.
Flattening the top of my head is the most painful part, and will take a while, still.

Well, I need alcohol to get through the working day, but I suppose that's always been the case.

I was more of a coming home type of thing. Like being raised by elves not knowing why everyone was so damn killable...   dislikeable then finaly meeting other dwarves and having it all click.

Nah, I'm tall completely facial-hair-less and only sorta fat... I do get called an autistic neckbeard on occasion by my friend that has only heard of DF, though...

Tried growing a beard, but that kind of failed. I do have sideburns though... Dwarf Fortress has also had the side effect of making me say weird things that are only funny to people who know of dwarf fort. My ramblings of carp, socks, and those damn elves always seem funny to me and my friends, but to others I sound absolutely insane.

I'd like to think so. Not my physical appearance, but my emotional and psychological spiritual being-
God damn elves stealing my computer...
But no, I don't think I've changed physically because of Dwarf Fortress. However, it has made me want to grow a beard.
Also, I do feel more cynical and sinister, but that may just be me getting older. I think it's a bit of both.

yeah I used to choose elves for the race I played in every game but now it is always a dwarf. I also see elves as highly sneaky backstabbers.

I used to think dwarves are one of the lamest fantasy races ever. Now I think they're awesome and by far the MANLIEST race.

That is ridiculous. I thoroughly approve.

My beard is long enough to braid now, but I can never find anything to tie it up with. It's also not very comfortable.

I'm tall and thin, but have a beard now.

I'll also be carrying a plastic axe through a muddy obstacle course race next month.

Not physically. However, I was playing Minecraft with my friend, and he aske me what the hell I was doing. I then realized that while building a stockpile, I dug out a huge 35x35x35 cube for storage on the third in game day. Does that count?
