Title: New Dawn RTD (Turn 2: Oh shi-)
Post by: IronyOwl on August 20, 2012, 01:38:44 am
Well, there have been worse escapes. Packing yourself into an unstable airship as the world burned around you with eldritch fire, then attempting to flash-burrow through planes in order to escape what for all you know may have been a global armageddon. Just a pity the world flashed to brilliant lights soon after, which is when you suppose you lost consciousness.

On the bright side, you did wake up afterwards; as last-ditch certain-death avoiding maneuvers trying to breach the space between worlds go, that's got to count for quite a bit. That sensation of falling, and even hitting the ground, before you woke up was a little unsettling, though, as is the fact that you're now completely naked and there's no trace whatsoever of your ship. Nor is there any sign of civilization, and frankly you really don't recognize this particular spot of wilderness, even from vague descriptions. Plus you were trying to escape to another dimension, so just where did you end up?

Well, nothing to be done about it now. Best make the best of this you can, because things are about to get very interesting around here...

Reserve me. Also, thinking about a steampunk industrialist fatcat for the backstory, is that OK?
Hadn't really intended the game to be very steampunky, but you might be able to wriggle a few things in. As far as pure backstory goes it's fine; your old world probably didn't have a whole lot in the way of steampunk either, but there's plenty of room to justify having some fatcats around.

Name:  Ssraah Mikaah

Physical Description:  A Snake Woman (Naga) with tanned skin, purple hair and a light-brown scales with a skin toned underbelly.  She has an attractive face and body, she is weak compared to the average though.

Mental Description:  Ssraah comes from a background where she was surrounded by intrigue and manipulation.  A lot of that has rubbed off on her personality, leaving her slow to trust, and more likely to view others as tools and parts of her machinations than other people.  Once closer she becomes more open, unlikely to ever share everything with anyone though.

Skill/Trait:  Alchemy / Potion Making ((Whichever one you are going to be using.))

Bio:  Ssraah was born to a normal family of her tribe.  They lived in groups of one or two hundred traveling through the desert.  Eventually it was time for her to move to a different tribe, in order to preserve more genetic diversity.  In her new tribe she was a part of the ruling body, due to her husband's influence, all the specifics seem to be a blur to her now though.

Name: Jeremy Nixite
Physical Description: Long, black hair, no facial hair, with a lean, jackal-like body.  His right hand is missing.
Mental Description: Conniving, opportunistic, greedy, pessimistic
Skill/Trait: Silent Walking(?)
Bio: A thief, born and bred, Jeremy had a talent for getting what he needed to survive.  As his position in life became more secure, he took more risks, taking stuff he wanted rather than needed.  This got him caught, and his hand chopped off as a price for his midnight hobby.  This event scarred him, in more than one way.  The previously overconfident lad grew cautious, cold, and worrisome.  And in this new land, perhaps that's a good thing.

Tell me if I didn't do anything right.

Can we get more information on the old world? All I understood was airship and apocalypse.

Looks good, but what exactly did you want Silent Walking to do?

Pretty much this. Probably high fantasy by default, but whatever you'd like to cram in there can probably fit.

Trait: Enhanced cellular regeneration.
Meaning regular anti-sword wound regeneration or something subtler/slightly different?

Also is he supposed to be human or what? I keep imagining a purple-skinned humanoid with Guile hair.

Skill/Trait:  Alchemy / Potion Making ((Whichever one you are going to be using.))
Meaning what exactly?

I don't know.  Give a bonus to sneaking or something.  If you have something cooler in mind, please, use it.
Hm. I'm thinking it would probably work best as some kind of combat-only sneak attack or ranged sneak attack. So for example, if an enemy is attacking someone else and you're not engaged with them yet, you can attack them for bonus damage equal to your Silent Walking rank, to represent silently gliding over and cheap shotting them.

That might be a bit too weak, but I'm worried if regular sneak attack might be too strong, and I'm not sure if/how out of combat stealth would work. Thoughts?

First prototype up. :3

I also see he got a promotion from being fed to werewolves. :P

-Trait/Skill :: Diehard/Toughness (Basically, a way of getting him to be more resilient or have more hitpoints, whatever)
Hm. Either I could give him a copy of regular Toughness to let him increase his HP on two branches, or I could just give him a trait or something to magnify his HP total.

Hm. There's probably other options as well.

Primarily meaning creating potions, poisons and other effects by the mixing of two or more ingredients.  Also a note, fangs would be cool.  Being a snake-person and all, I'm assuming they can't be poisonous, but whatever you feel is appropriate.

IronyOwl seems to like strange/original/unusual characters. You never know, he might just give you fangs.

Post by: IronyOwl on August 20, 2012, 02:40:20 pm
Alchemy/potion making sounds fine, then.

Fangs are also fine, though they probably won't look like much at that scale. They can't be venomous right now unless that's your starting skill, but it'd probably be possible to acquire venom later.

Speaking of which, Pariah's prototype is done.

I uh, I get the feeling I'm going to have to redo that one.

sorry for the late reply, he was originally gonna be a blue scaled wolf man but i couldn't make a back story for him so now hes just a genetically engineered human yes.

with the cellular regeneration i was hoping for an actual regeneration perk or at least damage reduction, im sure you can guess why.
also i kinda like the first concept art even if you forgot his tattoo.

YAY CHARACTER SHEET FOR THE WAITLIST!

Name: Allan Nainth
Physical Description: A lanky, blond-ish young man. Wears dark clothes, and has nothing special about his appearance other than that.
Mental Description: Likes to keep to himself, sticking in the shadows, avoiding interaction as much as possible. He enjoys just watching everyone else. It's creepy.
Skill/Trait: Semi-Psychic: Level 0.
After all of his People Watching, he's come to a conclusion. the Human Race is predictable. Often he'll know exactly what someone will do to the second. It comes in handy when in a troubling situation, which is, well, most of the time. He believes it's strictly intuitional, but he still enjoys knowing exactly what'll happen in the next 30 seconds or so.
Bio: He was born an only child, and wasn't a very social kid. he spent most of his time alone, just...thinking. He doesn't remember most of his life, because he believes the past doesn't matter, and tries to forget it as often as possible. He believes humanity is doomed for failure, and resents most of his village, but he's depressed that he's stuck as part of it. He's considered suicide, but gave up on it. Nobody would really care. He hates life in general nowadays, but still finds other races fascinating, often wanting to learn about them from anyone he can find.

Is this good?

Right then, healing HP per turn equal to the skill's value should work for that, then.

As for the image, yay! Though the odds of me being able to draw an identifiable chimera at that scale are pretty much nil. I'll give it a try anyway.

Looks alright, though I'm not sure what Semi-Psychic would do mechanically. Less of an issue because you won't be getting in for a while, of course.

I assume that, when used, you might send me the actions the enemy will take for the turn, and allow me to plan accordingly. Higher levels would allow for more turns worth.

Here's my interpretation of what my character should generally look like, feel free to use it, only adding hands, hair, clothing and other stuff I'm not really good at.  Also I skipped out on all the scales but I did do a little bit of underbelly so yeahhhhhhh, just assume it's coherent and makes sense?  ((I think I did pretty good, but we'll see. I suppose.))

Turn 0: Uh Oh

The world was burning. Some sort of magical catastrophe, no doubt, engulfing everything with pale arcane fire. As a last resort, you and five others crowded aboard an experimental airship, one carrying a magical reactor, and attempted to shift planes in order to escape. Everything bled out into color, you got the sensation of falling and even hitting the ground, and then...

...well, you just sort of woke up.

You're fine, as far as you can tell, and those people you fled with are lying around you, also just waking up from the looks of it. There's no sign of the airship, nor of anything you had on you, not even clothing.

Your surroundings don't seem especially familiar- it's a green, open field, studded with various small plants and carpeted with wild grass. You see no signs of habitation anywhere, and aside from the occasional tree can't make out any other terrain features. Looks like you're on your own for the foreseeable future.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It occurred to me that the pictures were holding things up, so we'll be skipping them for the moment.

Bear in mind that you need a unit of food and a unit of drink per turn to live. You won't starve immediately, but early on meeting that's gonna be kind of tough.

With a sigh Ssraah Slithers to the top of the tree, trying to find a source of fresh-water, and then slithers off in that direction, food sure to be close by the water.  If she reaches the water she drinks of it at the very least before searching for local fruits or vegetables.

((I think one unit of fruit and/or water per turn may be a little too much or our characters will have to use a wheelbarrow to carry what it takes to feed them for half a dozen hours.))

Noticing the problem with bearctopus, Nedenir moves in to help, even without any real skill available to help him save his companion from his plight! Which may end up in friendly fire somehow.

Combat: Throw rocks at bearctopus' head.

Noncombat: Gather and stock more fruit and water.

((It's only for full, supposedly day-long turns that apply that, so a half dozen turns would be a fairly impressive trek. One of the reasons I'm experimenting with simultaneous combat/day turns, in fact; the alternative is have people in combat both being in battle and not needing to eat for three days.

That said, I'm not positive it's not too much anyway, I just don't want acquiring food to be trivial once you get some tools, skills, or infrastructure going for it. Water less so, though; that's intended to be pretty much "are you near a lake/well?"))

Combat:
take the stick and shove it down the octobear's throat to prevent it biting me then gouge the living %$#@ out of its eyes with my claws.

Non combat:
Find food and/or water,
if octobear is defeated gut it and drink its blood then take a few meat and start making spears from its teeth.

also how do i get more level's in cellular regeneration?

((What I know, Mcclay usually is busy somewhere else on the forums and needs a PM to get back into action, perhaps he's not checking his newbox frequently.  :P))

((Seeing as he never did anything non-auto'd, I believe we'll simply be retconning Lizzie out for whatever your character ends up being.))
