It's coming up on a year since the first Bay 12 fan gathering. For those of you who don't remember this, there's an album of ginormous pictures up on the site here: www.bay12games.com/meetup .
I live in Europe, so I'll be passing unless Toady goes on a European Tour ;)just go into adventure mode and travel posthaste to the U.S.

I suggest Dwarfcon '09 be on Valentine's day, and thus we can guarantee that none of us will be otherwise occupied.Valentines day '08 got us the Dwarven relationships screen though. (at least iirc)
Well, actually, I just need 28 hours of travel time up and then back down.
Actually a webcast with live chat for the meet up doesn't sound like a half bad idea. The problem comes when the inevitable games start up, be it cards or DF.
I would go since Seattle is only a couple hours from where I live. But I am under 18 and I assume most people on the forums are over 18 so it would be really awkward.
Heh someone has to be the designated driver.I would go since Seattle is only a couple hours from where I live. But I am under 18 and I assume most people on the forums are over 18 so it would be really awkward.
Last time we had a range of ages from like 17 to 35. I think about half of us were even old enough to drink. So don't sweat it, I'd think most people would be glad to have you along.
But I am under 18 and I assume most people on the forums are over 18 so it would be really awkward.
I'm down by Portland, OR now, so I'm out.
Erm . . . I take it Seattle isn't near South Carolina?
Erm . . . I take it Seattle isn't near South Carolina?
I live in Montreal...You're closer to getting there than me. Look to the east and you will find New Brunswick. :(
...so, yeah. :(
Erm . . . I take it Seattle isn't near South Carolina?
Hey! I live in South Carolina! For a while there I thought I was the only DF-er (fortresser?) in the entire state.
My home base (college) is Santa Fe, NM, so I don't think I can sport the plane money. Even if I could, it'd be better spent on donations (or, if I have to besensible, food).WRONG! The right answer is "Of course, and I'm getting a second job exclusively for donating to Toady One."
@Christes: Does that mean you're goin'?
@Zironic: I don't think we're imposing a mandatory age range
Well :D you could invited players from the "future". I just think such events get not enought longtime publizity to attract Timetravellers.
So. Saturdays in April are the 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th. Saturdays in May are the 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th. I think we should choose one of these days on which to hold the meet, unless anyone really wants to have it earlier. If you already know you can't come on one of those days, speak up.Those times are all good for me.
Also, we need to think about what kind of thing we want to do. Just because we hung out at a seafood restaurant last time doesn't mean we can't go hiking, have a barbecue, or do whatever else this time. Ideally we'd try to get another fort started, but that's not essential. All ideas and opinions are welcome.
We've got as much time as we need to hammer out these details. I'll probably make another thread when we've got a more solid plan, but that doesn't have to be for another month or two.
He he he, I grew up in Fairfield. The area around there, especially Vacaville, has changed a lot since the 80s. Vacaville became kind of a larger place.
Erm . . . I take it Seattle isn't near South Carolina?

Jesus, it's going to turn out there's a whole infestation of us, I think.
I had the gall to be born in an Islamic coun...Umiman did the 9/11
Yes and he is still livin' rigth it is logic ...I had the gall to be born in an Islamic coun...Umiman did the 9/11

I had the gall to be born in an Islamic country.
It doesn't matter that I'm not Muslim myself, but I won't be able to get a visa unless I'm either:
a) rich
b) famous
or
c) a real terrorist with insider connections
A decade ago, I might have been able to get a visa but not now.

I don't think I want to meet up with a bunch of crazy people who love to butcher kitties and dump people in magma...
I'll be keeping my distance thanks ;D
Yup. Twice. It costs way too much both in time and money to try again. And besides, after awhile of thinking, there's no reason for me as I am to go to the states anyway. Considering that the American Influence has spread far and wide, it's really unnecessary to go there to experience it, no?
I'd just like to point out to you all that the last time there was a meetup, we got a game version telling players to kill themselves. This is awesome, what are you talking about.
As such, I think that it is a good idea to do something significantly different than what was done last time.
But I am under 18 and I assume most people on the forums are over 18 so it would be really awkward.
Not really, check out the age poll. We have lot of young users also. :)
I live in the Santa Cruz area, if there are one or more others who feel like going we could split gas and drive up there. I have school T/Th/Fri so weekend would be best.I'd be down for insanity (East Bay), provided you don't really kill kittens in real life. ::) When a date becomes provided we should message all the bay area people in this thread.

Okay, I have a date, since nobody else wants to give one...
May 16th!
It is on a Saturday. It is in May. It is a 16th.
Well?
how about the point defiance zoo and aquarium?Elephants and Carp?
Erm, I, for one, will be quite hungry after having driven for four hours to get there so I'd like to go to some place where I can exchange my -(Green Pig-Tail Cloth)- for *(Plump Helmet Roast)*. I could go on my own but I don't think I'd be the only person who would want to snag some food.how about the point defiance zoo and aquarium?Elephants and Carp?
ARE YOU MAD!
Besides, it is 13$ a ticket. We should be focusing on a place with free admission, since not everyone will be from out of state with money to spend on things like that.
(Edit: I think Point Defiance park is a good place though. There seems to be a lot going on in that area. Just not inside the Zoo and Aquarium.)
May works for me!
Here's a list of the dates for the weekends: Who can go when? Let's get a list and pick the best!
April:
11th, 12th
18th, 19th
25th, 26th
May:
2nd, 3rd
9th, 10th
16th, 17th
23th, 24th
30th, 31th
I don't drink, but I turn 21 on May 20th, so if we go to any 21+ places, then that date works for me. Other than that I can go any time on or after April 18th. Most likely.
Tylui (April 18th+)
... But you can also "come over snoqualmie pass- turn on 18 to I5 - to tacoma- freeway all the way", according to somebody who drives, so it's not a bad run and maybe a comparable time.
Maybe we should just go the extra half-way and meet on a State Ferry. That'll tick the State Patrol off!
Just do not do any cosplay, ok?
Altrough - it could be amusing seeing bunch of long bearded people running naked in different socks.
I haven't seen any negatives on May 9th yet, so it seems like May 9th it is.
Man it sucks to be 16 and broke. Oh well, there's always 2011! Or maybe 2010, but most likely 2011.
Count me in, if we're in Seattle & not out in Silverdale. I live in the city, a short bus ride (or somewhat longer walk) from downtown Seattle. :)If it is in Silverdale and you have a ride, will you have trouble then?
Is there anybody who needs it to be in Silverdale and not Seattle? It's really not a problem for us to go to Seattle. There have been at least two people so far that have said they wouldn't be able to make it to Silverdale. I don't see why we have to coordinate a trip out into the wasteland here when it seems way easier for people to go to the state hub.
Also as far as food is concerned I cast my vote for sushi or ethiopian food because burgers are the -cat tallow biscuits- of the real world.

I'd say there is a better chance of biscuits being made from Cat Tallow in Ethiopian food than burgers, and we won't even talk about the sea kitten tallow you suggested here...

All right, I'm going to make another thread as soon as we decide on a place to eat. I've done some thinking and it seems like there's only one reasonable choice.(quoted for next page)
Last time we went to Ivar's, and while the atmosphere was great, the food was mediocre and it cost us an arm and a leg. We need to go somewhere a bit less expensive, but still somewhere where there's a lot of tables we can pull together and a big space where it doesn't matter if we get a bit.. rowdy. Plus, a place with really good food is preferred.
I don't want to do ethnic food, even if it's really good like Ethiopian, because there might be someone who doesn't like it and then they're out of luck. Also, Ethiopian is really messy, everybody eating with their hands and stuff, which might not be good if we end up bringing laptops for fortressing. So it should be a classic Americana place like Red Robin. Except for the fact that the Red Robin down on the waterfront has waiters who must be stoned all the time because they forget people's orders and are terrible at cooking burgers. I read a review by someone who said that their burger was almost uncooked resulting in food poisoning.
So, the only reasonable spot left in Seattle is the Pike Place Brewery. It's got a big seating area and great food, it's open late, and even though the name might lead you to think that it's mainly about alcoholic drinks let me assure you that they have ample and delicious food and a lot of restaurant seating that's not 21+. It's a great atmosphere and a fun place to hang out. Plus it's not that expensive for Seattle: entrees range from 9 to 15 bucks.
If people are agreed upon this, and agreed about the date May 9th, I'm going to make reservations and make a new thread.
Just about a block up 1st Ave from the Art Museum?
From Google Maps, it seems there may be three parking lots within about 2-3 blocks, though I'm somewhat curious how good parking will be in May, so close to Pike Place Market.
Edit: I'm an idiot. Is there parking below the Viaduct? I can't remember, as my family never drove/parked down there.
Maybe I should rephrase my question: Is anybody _against_ meeting at the Pike Place Brewery? Not I. Pike Place sounds delicious.

Aren't there people coming who are under 21?

I didn't want to clutter up the rsvp thread with nonsense.
distance prevents me from going. but I will set aside the date to enjoy plenty of this.Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Anyone can clearly see from the writing on the bottom of that bottle that this is ELVISH wine! :o
