You buy a necklace from Hermana Eva. A simple charm of local soft wood, it is made up of several smooth beads painted in various colours. You are not well-versed in the subtleties, but the monks of the old faith practised a sort of visual language that allowed those in the know to understand a concept or idea simply by observing colour and pattern combinations. Eva assures you that the carved patterns, the colours chosen and the size of each bead describe you and your journey through the realm's bureaucracy; the Emerald Inspectorate. As would be expected, many of the beads are in shades of green.

You decide to put in a good day's worth of work, directing complaints with the mastery of decades. You earn the admiring approval of your lessers, although your replacement looks rather annoyed at your continued presence. You feel something twinge at the back of your mind.

The day moves quickly, with thousands of written letters and forms moving from one side of your desk to another, soon whisked away to that of another bureaucrat; perhaps another city. By the time that the nightly prayer-calls are uttered (both by tower-singer and by mind-whisper), your inkwell has gone dry and your stamp battered once more.
