Play With Your Buddies / Parsely Streams Yuppie Psycho
« on: August 18, 2019, 04:28:04 pm »
PARSELY PLAYS

Join Brian Pasternack, a young man with no future in a dystopian 90s society, on his first day at one of the world’s largest companies, Sintracorp. Uncertain, unprepared, and massively unqualified, will Pasternack have what it takes to shine in Sintracorp’s hierarchy? It all depends on how he performs on his first assignment... and whether he survives it.

Yuppie Psycho is a pixel art horror adventure game with some survival horror elements.

I got this game on a whim, and Gigla and I decided to stream it. We had fun in the first 2 hour stream and a bunch of people showed up, so I wanted to promote the stream and invite more people to join us in the future!

Watch Yuppie Psycho on Twitch - We play on Wednesdays at 9pm GMT

What are some ways someone could get basically guaranteed work in the USA? Ideally the work is paid but food and shelter is good enough. An example of what I'm talking about is the military, where you can basically just sign up. Feel free to interpret this as flexibly as you like.

General Discussion / Audio Fiction Recommendations
« on: July 29, 2018, 02:20:48 pm »
Howdy y'all, I'm a big fan of podcasts as entertainment you can absorb through your holes-what-catches-sounds while you do other things with your arm sticks and see balls, and recently I've been listening to more audio fiction, especially sci-fi and horror stuff (there's a severe lack of original horror stuff most of it's anthologies or readings of existing horror fiction YUCK).

I'm not one for making big long posts about recommendations but other people are so here's a place for you to share the audio fiction you listen to!

We should just get Nightvale out of the way right now since eventually that's going to come up.

Life Advice / Unexpected Aspects of Living Independently?
« on: April 07, 2018, 10:01:29 pm »
Hey y'all!

I'm a student and a part time worker, moving into my first apartment next Friday with a roommate. I'm very excited and optimistic, looking forward to having more privacy and choice, I feel ready for this.

I thought I would ask though, what are some things that you didn't expect about living independently for the first time? Practical or otherwise, I'd be interested to hear what people's (hopefully positive) experience has been.

Creative Projects / Art Critique and Support
« on: March 29, 2018, 02:43:01 pm »
This thread is for artists seeking critical and honest feedback on their work.

How To Post
Artists: Describe what elements of your art you want feedback on. People are here to help you, so make things as easy as possible for them by making sure your piece is well lit and easy for people to read. If possible, provide the reference you are working from.
Critics: Consider your words when commenting, honesty does not have to delivered unlubricated, so grease up your feedback by being specific and polite. Use the oreo method: one compliment, one critique, finish up with another positive. Doing redlines is encouraged and basically makes you the coolest person ever!
Everyone: If you find art resources that you found helpful, feel free to share them.

No artist left behind!
If you see someone who is seeking criticism and when you're thinking about posting one of your own pieces, consider taking the time to offer them feedback. If you receive feedback, pay it forward, take the first opportunity to help someone out and redline their work.

Get your work seen!
You can use the Random Things thread as a critique-free posting zone.

Resources - Here is a list of free resources for artwork. Feel free to post links in this format and I will add them to this list. When sharing resources, please make sure the content is free and legal to distribute.

Other Games / Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge Multiplayer
« on: May 24, 2017, 11:36:35 pm »
Anyone out there who owns Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge? Currently the game has very active multiplayer hosted on CnCNet; that's where I play. The client also lets you play the Yuri's Revenge campaign and multiplayer in 1920x1080.

Currently the only way to get the game is through Origin. I recommend the CnC Ultimate Collection on Amazon, which is 20 bucks for 10+ excellent Command and Conquer games.

If you're interested in playing, install CnCNet and join us on the Bay12 Red Alert 2 Multiplayer Discord server.

General Discussion / How do you spend your free time?
« on: April 10, 2017, 08:32:17 pm »
Every morning I read Bay12 and check the places where I post my art. When I'm not busy during the day, I talk to my friends on Steam and Discord (if you guys are reading this I loooove youuuu <3) while I do homework. If I'm not doing homework, I'm drawing (ugh) or writing code (UGH) for fun or for personal projects. Sometimes I play video games and lately it's a lot of RTS. I also play DnD 5e at my friend's house on Monday nights.

What about you? Just follow my example above. The focus is on what you regularly do. Feel free to talk about significant changes in your routine when/if they happen.

Other Games / Call to Arms: Free To Play RTS
« on: November 24, 2016, 02:37:44 pm »

Call to Arms is an RTS that recently went free-to-play. Originally it was a 20 USD purchase on Steam. It is yet another iteration on the Men of War series.

Some of my gameplay of Call to Arms.

The most prominent mechanic of the Men of War series that sets these games apart from other RTS is the ability to take direct control of your units to do precise actions. It's a physics based game, so there are no hitscan weapons; in this sense it could be compared to Supreme Commander. Combat is on the scale of a company-level skirmish with detailed structures that your soldiers can fight in and around. The AI can be a little confounding at first but once you learn its quirks its simple enough to work around. All units also have an inventory in which all their equipment is represented on a grid.

There are almost no resource gathering mechanics except in some game modes. You have points that slowly accumulate during the match, and you spend those on different kinds of units. Some game modes give players points for losing units, and there are others where boxes can be held and captured in order to receive a flow of points. In every game mode the goal is to inflict maximum losses on the opponent while minimizing your own. There is no base building though logistics do come into play here and there as units can run out of ammo or tanks can burn all their fuel, or become disabled and need repairs.

Vehicle combat is also very interesting. All vehicles have detailed locational armor and are crewed by individuals who perform different functions in the vehicle. This was more detailed in Assault Squad 2 but it's still present in Call to Arms. If a Humvee is shot through the hood with a weapon that has sufficient power, such as a .50 caliber machine gun, its engine will be disabled and the vehicle will become immobilized. Tanks can have their guns destroyed and treads disabled. An M1 Abrams is an expensive and deadly piece of equipment, but it can be destroyed by an experienced player using RPG teams.

---

The main draw of this game for me is the lethal and nuanced combat and the sheer amount of control I have over my units. Grenade placement and timing and taking direct control of vehicles and anti-tank infantry are some of the most important things to learn in the game.

The voice acting is hilarious and the soldiers say things that make no sense. The physics are hilarious and I love seeing things and people get flung about.

There is a steep learning curve as the game is quirky both in terms of mechanics and UI that can make competitive play intimidating, but well worth playing once you get the hang of it.

I don't know how to feel about this game after spending 20 dollars on it and suddenly having it go free to play and have DLC be announced. Like, of course game development costs money and these expenses need to be met somehow, but none of this shit was announced ahead of time. There was never a hint of this game going FTP, and the devs haven't responded to the negative reaction that the playerbase had in a very calm and rational way. That said, I'm glad this game is now free, that I might find some more people to have friendly matches with, and perhaps encourage to get my favorite game in the series, Assault Squad 2.

All in all I recommend this game for people who enjoy RTS and are looking for a unique and fast-paced experience.

Edit (11/5/2016): Survey is finished! Feel free to discuss and keep voting. I might start keeping tally in the

I'm conducting a survey for a school assignment and I wanted to invite everyone to participate in it! It would be extremely helpful if everyone took the time to fill it out. My goal is to get at least 30 responses. The less friendly and more academic tone begins after the line break. I wanted to include this because just posting the survey on it's own would make me appear too much like a robot.

Edit (11/3/2016): I won't change any of the questions now that I have posted the survey to avoid causing confusion. Please feel free to discuss the survey itself, as well as the issues related, or the choices you made. I ask that you please vote before you discuss.

I am conducting an independent survey of individuals on Bay12 Forums. The goal of the survey is to obtain data regarding popular opinion on global warming. Some of these individuals are more anonymous than others, therefore demographic will not be recorded, and all results will be considered to have been given by completely anonymous individuals.

Bay12 Forums is a message board created by the developers of the video game Dwarf Fortress that hosts discussions about the game and other topics. The majority, but not all, of the individuals surveyed can therefore be assumed to be gamers. Gamers occupy a wide range of ages, from pre-teens to advanced middle age, and the demographic is divided roughly in half with regard to gender (http://essentialfacts.theesa.com/).

Voting sheet (your vote will not be considered if you do not answer all the questions or use the following format):
Code: [Select]

3: [option]

Creative Projects / Month of Pixelated Anime Girls (Inktober 2016???)
« on: October 02, 2016, 12:51:47 am »
It's not ink, but it's in the same spirit okay?! I want to get better at drawing people, and I want to improve my pixel art, and I need to come up with some concepts related to "magical girl XCOM". So here goes nothing.

Life Advice / Text Document That Updates in Real Time?
« on: October 01, 2016, 12:50:32 am »
Is there any option other than Google Docs for a text file multiple people can edit in real time online?

Resident Evil 5 is a horror-themed third-person shooter with optional co-op. There are survival horror aspects of it but the campaign is level-based and thus there is rarely any stress for resources, since at any time you can replay previous levels.

We've already recorded up to Chapter 2-1, and in our playthrough we're playing on the hardest difficulty (Professional), starting as if we're playing a New Game. So that means we get none of our upgraded weapons or Nairas (currency) from previous playthroughs.

You actually have to go out of your way to do this since the only way to start a fresh save is to go into the game files and delete your old one, and on a totally fresh save Professional difficulty is locked. So what we've had to do, since you can discard items but you can't throw away money, is sell items until we had exactly enough money to buy items such that we would have exactly 0 Nairas left over, then discard those items we purchased. And in this way we could play on Professional with a totally fresh start.

We've also agreed on these challenges:
 - No replaying previous chapters.
 - No infinite ammo (which is an upgrade you can earn for specific weapons by getting good ranks on chapters).

Parts:
Chapter 1-1
Chapter 1-2
Chapter 2-1 Part One
Chapter 2-1 Part Two
Chapter 2-1 End
Chapter 2-2 Part One
Chapter 2-2 End

I'm going to have a certificate of completion for my CIS degree in a couple months since I did the vocational courses first, and by the end of the year I'll have my Associate's degree, going on a Bachelor's a few years down the road.

So at these three various stages of education, what the hell do I actually do with this stuff? What kind of technical work can I get with this? How can I leverage this to the utmost advantage?

One hears all kinds of crap about how your degree is useless, and the idea of these years of hard work and expense not mattering triggers a primal fear inside me. I research this frequently when I get stressed to keep myself from putting the barrel of a gun in my mouth (I'm not actually suicidal), but I still need some reassurance from people I know that I'm doing the right thing.

Life Advice / PC Freezing Problems
« on: April 22, 2016, 05:01:54 pm »
I have a computer that's less than a year old, I built it myself, and very recently it's been freezing up a lot, usually while playing games but once or twice it's happened while I was browsing Waterfox. I think it's because of overheating but I'm not sure. I downloaded SpeedFan and checked my temp after playing games and it's usually in the neighborhood of 50 Celsius (122 Fahrenheit) but sometimes close to 55c. Could this be the cause?

E: When it freezes it does so permanently and I'm forced to turn the computer off and back on, usually, but other times it recovers.

These are my specs:
Win 10 64-bit
AMD FX-6300 6-Core Processor 3.50 GHz, x64
RAM 8 GB
AMD Radeon R9 200 Series GPU
