Indeed. I've also been spending a lot of time on science-fiction focused discord servers, so the climate here is an interesting change of pace.

I posted a lot in 2015-16, but then things got busy.

I captured a full-up Guild terror ship when it landed in my territory, without taking a casualty.

I've been designing some spaceships in Children of a Dead Earth, and got what I think is a pretty good screenshot of one at the instant it got hit by some nuclear shaped charges.

Hot damn, it's been a long time since I've done anything here. Feels like an old friend.

I honestly think it makes sense for dwarves to be traumatized by these experiences. Our drunken peasants are not as sociopathic as we sometimes imagine them to be. However, the system could use some tuning, such as the "scary teeth", and more ways to make them less stressed which make sense. Giving them luxurious rooms should not be as effective a stress management tactic as appointing dedicated therapists, say. Make the "consoler" skill an assignable job, IMO.

The new stress system definitely seems problematic, but not necessarily entirely unrealistic. It seems reasonable that dwarves who work hard all the time, and then are forced to loot the corpses of an army slaughtered by their friends, will break down under the stress, even if their rooms are fancy. I feel like what's needed are more ways to handle stress beyond chugging alcohol and looking at finely decorated beds, not necessarily less trauma.

Based on an idea from some other guys on the internet, I designed a missile that takes out the scariest ships reliably and with relatively low cost. It seems to work even against heavy laserstars.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uranium_hexafluoride

This stuff is what you need to centrifuge. It looks as though all you really need in addition to the flourine and some basic shit is nitric acid, which you're already producing, but it's central to gunpowder production. As such, if you start mass producing uranium hexaflouride, you'll slow down ammunition, unless we up our total chemical production first.

The attempt at production of the chemical using a raw mixture of elemental flourine and crushed pitchblende results in a vicious fire and the injury of several workers.

So uh, what about a scramjet with monopropellant for fuel?

{Nice update, Gwolfski.}

{If you dismantle the tablet, you can probably get the idea of its design, but you lose access to its stored data, and you can't really produce nanometer scale transistor blocks, even your magic isn't that good yet. However, what you already know in addition to the data on the tablet should allow you to produce all sorts of electronics or computer systems at the sorts of scales you actually have the ability to produce. If you want crude, large-scale microchip-type capabilities, you can definitely accomplish that. Eight bit microcomputing and so on will require more iteration of your manufacturing technology to accomplish.}

{Keep in mind, the timed badness threshold will not end your research and development opportunities, you'll just need to be fighting an active conflict alongside development.}

Indeed. If I have time, I'll try to write an interim update tomorrow, but I can't promise anything.

{Yep. Not that there's a lot of water aboveground to irradiate.}
