Title: A fun little thing I'm doing and a question
Post by: Kyubee on January 14, 2017, 05:33:24 pm
I'm playing with multiple mods (specifically that Star Wars mod that lets you play as Jawas and Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom), for a little challenge I call "Invasion of the mushroom kingdom", where I have to pit my Toads against all sorts of Star Wars stuff, and the likes. I've already had an AT AT die to a goomba village in testing, but does anybody have suggestions for things for me to do? I have some minor cheats enabled, like making infinite of a gem I chose for my civilization, infinite Electrum, and infinite Feather Wood (All three used sparingly so I can get a head start in wealth and kickstart larger invasions quicker), and i've made minor modifications to the Toads like giving them ranged weapons (Specifically ancient gunpowder weapons from a third mod). As I said, I need some challenges for it. Please be more creative than "Don't cheat noob"

Ooh, I love modular crossovers!  We need a list of all compatible mods, I had no idea the Star Wars one was designed with modularity in mind.

Play adventure mode and become a Jedi goomba.

Jecowa made a list like that once for his modpack. (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=159810.msg7119162#msg7119162)

Here's the pack as well. (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=160442.msg7164994#msg7164994)

Welcome to the forum, Kyubee. How did Goombas take down the AT-AT?

Now I'm just imagining goombas para jumping onto the at-at and stabbing it with tiny spears strapped to their heads

This is going well so far. I'm actually doing a highly cheaty just for fun toad fort to see how long until the ogres (I did some sliiiight raw modding on my own to add in some basic civilizations before, including Cockatiel Men at an IRL friend's request), reduce my royal city to rubble.

I'm not much of a fan of Adventurer Mode.

I dunno, it was in Legends Mode. Which explains a lot, but now I wanna test how many unarmed goomba it will take to take down an AT-AT in the testing arena. I'm voting at least 20.

I bet they never kill it, but eventually it falls off one of the edges if they attack it enough.

I didnt realize the authors of the main two mods used were replying! I thought you two were just fellow fans! Anyways, as for other mods that work with it, i've done very minor testing, and a Monster Hunter mod (i don't have a link due to losing it) works on an alternate version of the modpack. I'm thinking once it hits a sufficiently chaos-ified version, with you guys' permission (And the permission of other authors who made these), I'll upload it myself, giving credit of course. I'm even thinking i'm going to re-add playability to races I removed it from.

That sounds like a great idea. Besides the actively updated mods, I'd recommend these in particular.

Teh LOLmod? That one's great. It does modify a lot of vanilla files though, so it would probably need a bit of work to fit well with others.

I made that change on my own actually before, also making that change on Octopi! Also, those mods you linked... are for older versions! Are they compatible with 43.05??

Pretty sure, weapons haven't been changed since the attack speed additions from about 2 years ago, and I just used the dinosaurs today.

But of course~ I may edit the jawa raws themselves to use stuff all playable civs will.

I have finished adding files; I hope this works.

Update; it didnt. Trying again with significantly less mods for stability. Call it; Organized Chaos of Dwarces; Project OCD for short.

I don't think so. Regardless i'm making another try!

Edit; the new version has made it to history gen without a crash.

Which mods are in this version?

heres a list. I also think I added http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=161687.0 but I'm unsure if it worked over the other Dictionary expansion done by TehLolmod.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There was also a handful of personal modifications by yours truly, but i'd prefer to leave those behind a second wall of spoilers.

Sounds like it'll be impressive. I don't think Teh LOLmod's language modding and Advanced Dictionary would have merged naturally.

I know. I tried re-replacing Teh LOLmod's stuff with the advanced dictionary. I also edited the Jawas from your mod and the Koopas from ROTMK to be able to start and settle in most biomes, since I kept ending up genning worlds without them.

How's worldgen going?
Title: Re: A fun little thing I'm doing and a question
Post by: Kyubee on January 16, 2017, 12:25:41 am
Good. Still havent genned a world with Koopas, who I also removed [BABYSNATCHER] from, given I have another token evil player race with it's own bits of evil. (If you see Ant Men as a playable race (Their civs usually have evil names) when I upload this, give em a try)

Update: it crashed once. Likely one entity I modded in myself didnt work, given my worlds don't gen with Iron or Amythest men anymore.*shrug*

Update II: Koopas have genned once. Now I'm trying to gen a world with all the playable races (Koopas, Dwarves, Ant Men, Toads, Shy Guys, and Jawas)

Update III: I have genned one with every player race... And theres both Ogre civs... Which are kiiinda overpowered just due to being ogres that spawn with weapons. I wouldnt be surprised if they became so prolific that all races sent everything they had at em.

Update IV: I'm actually adding in a special surprise playable race after i've thoroughly tested this version tonight.

My final edit for the night is a temporary one, I made Koopas beastmasters (Gave them USE_ANY_PET_RACE) until I add in my special race tomorrow if i have time or the day after if I don't.

Oh my god I just got an idea for a special entity... I'm gonna call it; The Coalition! (Not to be confused with the MTG coalition) Doing this, I'm gonna remove every other civ's playability except the ant men, and make this a multi-national league of things. though in actuality i'm just gonna remove the brackets from each ones site_Controllable tag just in case the coalition doesnt work as intended. The way I intend it to work is a nation that has every creature i would normally have playable in it, though, if nothing else I'd settle for it being one race with the combined arsenal of every other race. (I'm even copypasting storm and clone trooper stuff into it).

edit; it didnt work.

You could try using the caste system to do it, like my Jedi and Sith. You could look at their raws for help merging them.

If you make the clones and stormtroopers gear available to the player, you might want to make a reaction to make crafting it possible.

good idea on the caste thing. Care to walk me through the process though? I learn better when taught like that

Alright. The wiki mentions this process here (http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Modding#Creature_castes).

Quote from: Dwarf Fortress wiki
If you read the section of this guide that dealt with entities, you may remember a passing mention of multi-creature civilisations and how they don't quite work as you may think they would. The castes system is your workaround. You could create a caste that is, for all intents and purposes, a human, and another caste of the same creature that acts exactly like a giant cave spider, put the creature in a civ, and get a human-spider civ. The only flaw in this approach is that the castes will interbreed.

So I'll walk you through an example civ that hybridizes giant cave spiders and humans. Starting off, here are the two originals.

Spoiler: Spider (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Human (click to show/hide)

Now, we start on the merging with a unique name.
[CREATURE:SPIDERMEN]

We need to put essential shared features in a top section for all the races to share. Parts that vary may be kept in the main creature areas. Generally only major, creature-defining tokens need to go on top. The wiki will tell you which tokens can be shared. Creature tokens means it needs to go on top, caste tokens can be separate. (http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Creature_token)

Here's the top section for the spidermen. It's a bit small.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You might have noticed that some body detail plans are kept up here.
   [BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:STANDARD_MATERIALS]
   [BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:STANDARD_TISSUES]
        [BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:CHITIN_MATERIALS]
   [BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:CHITIN_TISSUES]
The reason for that is a bizarre bug I've noticed where if you attempt to put different material and tissues plans down in the castes, flesh starts to chip and fracture from blunt impacts like it's made of plastic.

Now we begin defining the human castes. I differentiate between male and female by adding an F or M after their name. Pretty much everything that has to do with the physical body goes here.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

After that's done, we make the spiders.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The name at the top refers to the race as a whole. It will be their name in Legends mode, map screens, and art. Caste names are what the individuals will be called. Finally, here is the complete creature. *Continued on next post.

Finally, here is the complete creature.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

In character creation, the player chooses which caste to play the same way you normally choose male or female.

And finally, we have a civ where humans and giant talking spiders live together in harmony.

I hope this was clear enough, but I can answer any questions you have about the process.

I'm changing the mod a smidgeon. I'm removing Teh Lolmod to make the pack a little more serious again, as well as due to my own personal confusion with it. I may, however, in exchange, add more stuff. I'm already planning on writing up some lore for it once it hits a version that is releasable in my opinion
